By: The Duchess of Arendelle
The New Girl - Part One
AN: Sorry for the long update time, and sorry for any and all mistakes! Flancooken97 I wish your PM wasn't blocked so I could explain things you spoke about properly. I could clear a lot of things up! But thanks for your criticisms, as with everyone else, I'll take it to heart in an effort to improve the story. Enjoy the chapter everyone!
"Lady? Hey, lady!" Anna startled out of her trance at the sound of the cab driver's voice yelling her name. She had been lost in thought, going over her plan step by step in her head.
"Uh, y- yes?" she asked, looking at him through the rearview mirror.
"We're here. 1578 Southern Isle Ave, Southern Isle Incorporated." The cabbie answered matter of factly in his strong New York accent. Anna turned her head to look out the window and see that the cabbie was right. They were here. The redhead quickly reached for her bag, pulling out a few bills and handing them to the driver. Opening the door, she scrambled out the car, adjusting her dress and smoothing out imaginary wrinkles.
This was it. She was actually here. The SII building was enormous and imposing, all sharp edges and glinting windows. It was at least 58 stories high. A testament of modern architect and Anna would expect nothing less from the man who owned it.
Taking in a deep breath, Anna closed her eyes for a second, steadying herself. "Okay, here goes everything."
Walking through the front door, Anna's looked around the building in amazement. The inside lobby was huge and decorated much like the outside looked, modern furniture and art sprawled all around the room. Anna walked up to the front desk and cleared her throat, garnering the attention of the young man sitting behind it, typing away at his computer. When he finally looked up and noticed the redhead, he fumbled to attention and smiled brightly.
"Hello, welcome to Southern Isle Incorporated! My name is Milo Thelonious Thatch III, you can just call me Milo, how can I help you today?" he asked kindly, adjusting the oversized frame of the glasses on his face. Anna smiled back nervously.
"Hi… uh Milo, my name is Anna Summers, I'm a new employee here starting today. I'm not 100% sure where I'm supposed to go…" the redhead trailed off. The secretary's eyes grew and he smiled a bit wider.
"Miss. Summers! We've been expecting you. Mr. Fiske has asked me to direct you to his office as soon as you arrived. The elevators are located to your right, please take one up to the 62nd floor and speak to Honey, Mr. Fiske's PA. She'll inform Mr. Fiske that you're here. And then you can head up to the 63rd floor which is where Mr. Fiske's office is located. He wants to speak with you privately." Anna nodded in understanding.
"Thank you Milo, and please it's Anna, since we're going to be co-workers and all." Milo grinned at Anna and nodded.
"Excellent. Well then Anna, if you will sign this sheet for me, you can be about your way." he handed over a clipboard and a pen. Anna took both and quickly scribbled her signature on the sign in sheet.
"Don't worry, you won't have to do this everyday, just until we can get you an i.d. made. Honey will help you out with all of that." he explained. Anna handed the clipboard back to him and he scanned it, checking that she signed her name in the right spot.
"Okay, everything looks good. You can head on up now. See you later, and have a great day!"
Anna nodded her head and gave him one last smile before heading over to the elevators. "Okay let's see, 63rd floor huh?" Anna mumbled to herself, scanning the map next to the elevator as she waited for it to arrive.
"63rd floor? Swanky. You must be someone real important to be called up to the big man's personal floor." she heard a deadpanned voice next to her say, followed by the sound of gum popping. She turned her head to see a girl on really fancy rollerblades with short black hair and a purple streak going through it, standing beside her. She looked incredibly familiar and Anna racked her brain to remember who she reminder her of.
"So, hows about it? You some big time tech whiz, or no, one of those really smart foreign scientist Fiske keeps shipping in from East Jesus Nowhere." The sound of the girl's comment pulled Anna out of her thoughts and she concentrated on the conversation. 'Foreign scientist?'
"Uh, what? Who me? Oh no. I'm nobody important. I just got here, I mean, I'm just starting here. I'm new. I'm just a journalist turned junior company liaison." Anna rambled on, stopped only by the sound of the elevator dinging and a wave of people walking out. After the elevator emptied, Anna quickly stepped on, followed by the bubble gum chewing girl with a large messenger bag slung over her shoulder. Anna held her hand out and gave a small smile.
"I'm Anna. Anna Summers, but you can just call me Anna." She introduced herself. The girl beside her raised and eyebrow and clicked her tongue.
"Oh? No shit?" was her simple response.
Well one thing Anna knew for sure, her mannerisms were very similar to that of Meg's, but she was still not sure who the girl reminded her of. She looked so familiar. Anna cleared her throat and lowered her hand when the girl made no move to shake it.
"A-and who might you be?" the redhead asked, looking at the numbers on the elevator for a second to see how much longer this awkward exchange had left.
"GoGo. But you can call me nothing." The elevator dinged again and the doors opened. GoGo quickly skated away, not even sparing Anna a second glance as more people piled on to the elevator behind her. Anna was a little perturb at GoGo's blatant rudeness. 'I mean really, she's the one who talked to me first!'
"What's her problem?" Anna muttered to herself.
"Who GoGo? Aw, she's not so bad once she warms up to you, and she seems to have taken an interest in you already. That's the longest I've ever seen her talk to someone who wasn't in our circle of friends." Came the deep voice of the dreadlocked man standing behind her. She turned to look at him and he smiled and stuck out his hand.
"Jordan Ginger, everyone calls me Wasabi." Anna grabbed his hand and shook it with a raised brow.
"Anna Summers. Why do people call you Wasabi?"
"Because I love sushi." he answered matter of factly.
"Right… well, if that was her taking an interest in me, I'd prefer she not." Anna stated, turning back around to stare at the numbers go up.
"Like I said, she's actually a sweet girl when you get to know her. Don't tell her I said that though, she'll break my arm… again…" he seemed to shudder for a second before continuing.
"So you're new here, right? What department did you say you were from?" he asked.
"Market research, company liaison. And you?" she asked as the elevator stopped on the 44th floor.
"Second in command of informations technology research and development. I'm responsible for strategic implementation of new technology solutions that improves business efficiency while meeting corporate business goals." Anna stared at him blankly.
"I'm an IT guy. I make sure our servers stay updated and run smoothly and that our internet doesn't go bye-bye." he explained.
"Oh, right." Anna said dumbly.
"We actually share the floor with market research, so if you need someone to show you around, or if you want to know where to go to get some crazy good sushi for lunch break, don't hesitate to hit me up."
Anna giggled and smiled up at the huge man now standing next to her. "I'll definitely do that." The elevator stopped at the 53rd floor and Wasabi adjusted his bag and straightened his shirt.
"Well, this is our stop. You coming?" he asked, stepping out of the elevator and holding his arm out in front of the door's sensors. Anna shook her head no.
"No actually, not right now. Mr. Fiske wants to see me before I get settled in. But I'll be back soon enough, I hope." Anna explained. Wasabi nodded in understanding.
"Alright, see you soon then. Good luck." he waved and Anna waved back as the elevator doors closed. Anna sighed and closed her eyes for a brief moment.
'Okay, on to Fiske's office.'
AN: lycan13 thank you so much for the character ideas! I had no idea who I was going to put on the SII staff, I didn't think of the Pixar characters. SO again, thanks for that! Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the update. I'm going to be ultra busy in the coming months, but hopefully the updates will continue to come semi steady. See ya soon!
