Mirii steps inside the basin full of magenta ink, while her tentacles were colored in the same way. Her hands were holding the VR glasses, as her eyes were locked on Penny, which was sitting behind her desk.
"No, no… I-I can't accept her brief explanation!" Mirii frowned a bit, as a sweat appeared on her head and her teeth slightly gritted. "There must be more into this than it looks… something that might manipulate me in some way!"
Her irises turned to her right.
"I should press her with questions, before"
"The program is ready!" Penny closed her eyes, while smiling and aiming her head at Mirii. "You can wear your glasses"
"Penny, I just thought a question." Mirii lowered her head a bit, keeping her expression.
"… do you have to ask it now, Mirii?" A sweat drop appears on Penny's head. "I'm so enthusiast for this program, my mind is going to explode from all this hype."
Mirii smiled for a brief second.
"It's related to the whole experience I'm about to see." She nodded.
"In that case, you can freely ask me that question." Penny's small hands hovered above her keyboard. "Even make the whole experience a 1000 question-fest!"
Mirii chuckled.
"Can I take off those glasses at any time?"
"Of course you can!" Penny laughed. "In fact, we even made sure that the glasses cannot stick on any Squids…!" Her eyelids lowered to the middle. "Otherwise we would have the police sticking on our business instead."
Mirii kept chuckling, gradually tilting backwards before springing back to neutral position.
"Do you have any more questions?" Penny's fingers twitched, as her eyes grew.
"Are there any precautions I need to remember?" Mirii's eyes closed.
"I told you everything you need to know." The woman grins a bit. "Are you scared by this?"
The girl's eyes opened wide.
"N-no!" She frowned. "It's my habit to make sure that everything is completely functional and"
"Don't be scared!" Penny nodded. "So many customers made it out alive, feeling better than ever!" She winked. "Actually, the only things who are shattered are the customers' expectations…"
"Ha ha ha!" Mirii smiled.
"So, what are you waiting for?!" Penny pointed at Mirii with her hand. "Dive inside the adventure! Come on!"
The girl looked at her glasses, noticing the shy reflection coming from their lens.
"… I don't see any another reason to hold myself…" Her hands put the glasses in front of her eyes.
She was now looking at an infinite stretch of Inkling water, with seaweeds growing from the sandy ground, some rocks spread around and a coral stretching in the distance. Mirii's mouth opened wide.
"W-wow…! As if I'm inside a different world!" She turns around, noticing even more seaweeds and rocks. "How did they managed to reach such level of accuracy…?"
"Pretty cool, huh?" Penny's voice was coming from the right side.
"… impressive." Mirii nodded. "That's all I have to say."
"That's not even the most impressive part! Try diving inside the ink you are standing on…"
"Can I do that with those cords attached to the glasses?" Mirii's head pointed in the direction of Penny's voice.
"Good question! Those cords are made with a special plastic material that allows them to not sink together with the glasses. You can even slide around the basin: the cords are completely flexible for any movements you make."
"I see…" Mirii's head rose. "Their technology is definitively way ahead for this current generation…" She turned into a Squid, diving inside the ink. "One of the many essential information to store in my laptop…"
Can you hear me?
"Wh-what the?!" Mirii turned around, seeing the same scenery. "Penny?!"
Ha ha! As if I'm inside the Inkling water sea with you, right?!
"… are you talking through a microphone?" She looks forward.
Exactly! The microphone is sending my voice through the cords, which comes out from the glasses and spread through the ink. Have you heard of ink transmitting sound?
"Yes, I'm aware of that." Her irises went to the right. "I can barely hear my voice, though…"
Gradually, her sight began moving forward.
"Are you moving the camera?" She frowned a bit.
More like I'm moving the virtual Squid who's supposed to represent you.
"… I feel like moving in the same way too." Mirii turned her head over the right. "I'm not even changing direction by mere looking… what type of control do I have?"
Follow my movements! Otherwise, you are going to miss the happiness!
"… understood." She returned her head forward. "She can even notice the point of view I'm having… bah. It doesn't matter if I can't move at my own will." She sighed silently. "I thought to have a bit more control than this…"
Ok! Let's warm us up with a little, easy game!
"Alright." Mirii turned around, seeing the coral in front of her and a group of clamshells to the right side. "Please explain."
Try finding the Squids I'm about to spawn inside this world. Don't worry, they are not hungry monsters!
"How many Squids I must find?" She stared back at the coral. "Also, do I have to just look at them?"
Let your eyes do the job! The Squids will be caught by your attention alone, just like in real life!
Mirii chuckled, as her sight tracked a jumping Squid from the middle of the coral.
Ooops! Didn't wanted to make the Squid jump out like that… let's try again!
Another Squid popped out from the sandy ground, as Mirii gasped.
Ah, darn it! The software is giving me problems again…
"P-problems?!" Her eyes expanded.
It something that happens! I even made a picture of a hot-dogfish pop out of nowhere!
"… this is not making me laugh in the slightest…" Her irises bounced left and right.
A Squid was sliding from the right side, going all the way to the left and passing in front of Mirii… then, another one came from the left, going all the way to the right! One more Squid passed through her point of view, moving towards the horizon… and suddenly, an army of Squids was sliding all over the place!
… ha ha ha… forget the little game! Things are working just fine! Let's move on to the real deal!
The whole Squid army instantly disappeared. Mirii's sight moved away from the ground, now moving forward and above the coral.
"… I have the suspicion that things will not proceed as smoothly as she claims…" She snorted. "Should I let her continue this ridiculous software… or should I quit this whole virtual reality experience and move onto other machines, who are supposed to be more reliable than this?"
Her eyes squeezed a bit.
"I must decide rapidly… who knows what other problem I will encounter in the way!"
