Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Path Not Taken
OPENING CRAWL
(The RESISTANCE has fallen! Six months after the destruction of Starkiller Base, the FIRST ORDER has infiltrated the Resistance Base of D'Qar; taking several captive while slaughtering the rest.
Among those taken captive are GENERAL LEIA ORGANA, ADMIRAL ACKBAR, POE DAMERON, and FINN; who has since recovered from his battle with KYLO REN but is now being tortured by his former commanding officer CAPTAIN PHASMA.
With Kylo acquiring knowledge from the captives, SUPREME LEADER SNOKE has sent the destructive KNIGHTS OF REN to Ahch-To to locate and destroy REY and Jedi Master LUKE SKYWALKER...)
Six months after the destruction of Starkiller Base, the Knights of Ren have arrived on Ahch-To and begin their search for Rey and Luke Skywalker. While searching, they receive a telepathic message from Luke pleading them to surrender and embrace the light side of the force. The second in command of the Knights, Trudgen, objects by stating that he, and the others, have no desire to return as Jedi and demand that Luke reveal himself. Instead of Luke, Rey reveals herself to the Knights asking them to see the error of their ways. The Knights, fully armed, battle Rey which ends with her defeating two of the Knights; Ap'lek and Cardo. Luke then intervenes, paralyzing the remaining Knights with the force while tending to Ap'lek and Cardo; though Cardo is badly injured, Ap'lek succumbs to her injuries. As a result, Luke begins to grieve while revealing that he did not want this fate for any of his students; it's revealed that the Knights of Ren are the remainder of Luke's students from his Jedi Academy who fled with Ben Solo to join Supreme Leader Snoke. Rey then slowly approaches Cardo and asks him why he turned to the dark side. Cardo responds that Rey has made a huge mistake following the path of a Jedi and joining Luke.
Meanwhile in deep space, the remaining Resistance is being held captive on Snoke's star destroyer the Supremacy. Finn, now with a prosthetic spine, is being endlessly tortured by Stormtroopers while Captain Phasma oversees. In between some of the torture, Phasma demands to know from Finn on why he denounced the First Order only to join a "lost cause." Finn, badly injured, states that what the Resistance stood for what was right and that the First Order is a "lost cause." Before the Stormtroopers can do anymore torture on Finn, General Hux, along with a Bothan First Order Scientist and dark side force user named Vyvin Droyka, approach Phasma and inform her that the final pieces of equipment to create a mind wiping device (similar to what was used by Jedi on Sith to erase their memory during the Old Republic) have been constructed and that the construction of the device itself is currently underway.
In the prisoner section of the Supremacy, General Leia, along with Poe Dameron, Admiral Ackbar, C-3PO, BB-8, Snap Wexley, and a few others are being held in a prison sell. While everyone is in hopelessness, Leia begins to remember when her and Han were together and Ben was just a boy. The first memory she has is when her, Han, Chewie, Lando Calrissian, Lando's wife Airah, and Ben were on Chandrila after a successful senate hearing. Though Leia and Han enjoy being congratulated by the fellow senators, Ben shows feelings of isolation while standing next to them. One of the senators happens to notice Ben's look and asks Leia and Han what's wrong with him. As a result, Han jokingly in a egotistical way demands Ben to "stop looking so gloomy." Chewie then walks over to Ben and tries to cheer him up while Leia briefly looks in concern but thinks no more about it. Leia then remembers another memory from Chandrila in which Ben (still a boy) is violently beaten by other children who make fun of his family legacy; referring to Han, Leia, Luke, and even Darth Vader. Leia intervenes and comforts a completely broken Ben. She then finally remembers when her and Han confronted an upset Ben (still a boy) in which he wished that he wasn't related to them or "anyone with the last name of Skywalker." Leia becomes overwhelmed by the memories and the others in the sell begin to comfort her.
Meanwhile, in what appears to be one of the temples on Yavin IV, Kylo Ren fights an injured female Jedi who makes remarks that he "does not honor the family name." Kylo uses his rage and defeats the Jedi by thrusting his lightsaber into her. As she dies, she promises to Kylo that his uncle will defeat him. Kylo stares at her in rage as the scenery of the temple, along with the Jedi's body, holographically shuts down revealing that he is in the simulation chamber of the Supremacy. Snoke then approaches Kylo from behind and states that it's this memory from his past that makes him more powerful with the darkness. Kylo, however, is not pleased with his progress and demands he rendezvous with the Knights of Ren on Ahch-To and help to defeat Luke and Rey. Snoke refuses Kylo's request as he believes that his training, and growing deeper with the darkness, is more important. Enraged, Kylo attacks Snoke but, in return, Snoke uses the force to throw Kylo to the other side of the room and states that he is not yet strong enough. Kylo, still enraged, denies this and wants to prove to the Galaxy, and to his late grandfather, he can bring down both Luke and Rey and become the most powerful force user in the history of the Jedi and Sith, even going so far to state that he will not be beaten to the ground anymore. Pleased, Snoke complements Kylo that his anger is making him more powerful but reveals that once the Knights defeat Luke and Rey, he wishes for Kylo to then kill the Knights of Ren in order for him to truly continue the legacy that Darth Vader could not.
Back on Ahch-To, Luke confirms with Rey that the Knights of Ren, along with Ben Solo, are indeed what remains of Luke's Jedi Academy and that the rest of his students were slaughtered by them. He then reveals that the Knights, along with Ben, were troubled and had pasts of torment and rejection due to each Knight, except Ben, having lineage with force users of the Empire known as Inquisitors. Rey, intrigued by this revelation, asks Luke why the Knights, along with Ben, decided to turn against him. Luke states that he did all he could to show the Knights and Ben that they absolutely have purpose but were deceived by the ways of Supreme Leader Snoke, an individual in which Luke feels heavily responsible for creating.
Determined to find out more information, Rey enters the medical bay of the Millennium Falcon where Cardo (still in critical condition) is recuperating and Chewie and R2-D2 are overseeing. She asks Cardo, who reveals himself to be former Jedi Apprentice Reelo Baruk, why he feels it's a mistake for her to follow the path of a Jedi and join Luke. Reelo responds by asking Rey how she is able to follow something that requires one to be selfless and help a galaxy that rejected him because of who he is and his lineage. Rey responds that not everyone in the galaxy is perfect, not even she, and that she sees purpose in him and the rest of the Knights. Reelo counters this response and states that she did not see purpose in Ben and recalls that she even told Ben he was a monster during their battle on Starkiller Base. Rey confesses that she did but that she was wrong for doing so. She goes on to state that since her training began with Luke, she learned that any individual can be redeemed through the power of good and that she now regrets for not seeing the path of redemption when she first encountered Ben. Reelo responds that Luke taught him, Ben, and the Knights the same thing but came to realize that he, Ben, and the Knights were just replaceable products to "the most perfect being in the galaxy." Reelo goes on to state that no one can replace Luke, but that anyone could replace him, Ben, and the Knights if they remained Jedi.
Meanwhile, Luke enters a cavern where the remaining Knights of Ren, Trudgen, Ushar, Kuruk, and Vicrul are being held in containment fields; Trudgen is revealed to be former Jedi Apprentice Jaden Korr, Ushar is revealed to be former Jedi Apprentice Rosh Penin, Kuruk is revealed to be former Jedi Apprentice Tavion Axmis, and Vicrul is revealed to be former Jedi Apprentice Baldarek. Luke explains to them that he means no harm and apologizes for any harm he's already caused. Jaden fires back at Luke calling him "a liar" and that if he truly meant no harm he would've let him, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek go and not have them confined to containment fields. Rosh then adds more fuel to the fire and explains to Luke that he wouldn't have trained a new apprentice who managed to injure Reelo and kill Alora if he truly cared for them; Alora was another former Jedi Apprentice before she became Ap'lek. Luke explains that is why he apologized and that Rey only fought in self defense as it was the Knights that made the first move. Tavion then explains that if he truly cared for Alora and the rest of the Knights he would've allowed them to kill Rey and him in order to fulfill their destiny and "have a purpose." Luke states that the four do have a purpose but that he can not allow them to cause harm to the galaxy. Baldarek counters Luke's statement asking him why they should not cause harm when all the galaxy has done is cause them harm. Luke responds to Baldarek that there will always be those in the galaxy that will cause someone harm and that there's no such being in the galaxy that is perfect. Jaden counters Luke's response, stating that Luke has always been perfect since the fall of the Empire along with his sister Leia and brother-in-law Han, so much so it shoved his nephew Ben into all the attention which caused him to be "a joke" to a good majority of the galaxy as a result. Luke states that he is by no means perfect and that he too has had his fair share of criticism. He then goes on to add that the galaxy does indeed have a cruel side but that the goal is not to let the cruelty be the stopping point, it's to overcome it and keep moving ahead. Baldarek responds that maybe Luke should tell that to Reelo who's now hanging on for dear life.
Back on the Supremacy, Captain Phasma and General Hux oversee Vyvin's final installments to the mind wiping device. While Phasma praises Vyvin's work, Hux asks Vyvin if the device itself is truly powerful enough to erase one's memory. Vyvin responds that the device must be powered by a force user in order for the mind of the individual to be completely wiped and goes on to explain that her abilities with the force and even with that of Kylo's, due to his bloodline, will be strong enough to erase the memories of the remaining Resistance and assimilate them into the First Order. Phasma goes on to state to Hux that Kylo's specific order was to turn the remaining Resistance into First Order Officers but that General Leia will be trained under Kylo and Snoke as a Sith. Vyvin finally adds that with Snoke, Kylo, the Knights of Ren, Leia, and herself, revealing that she was one of the two Emperor's Hands during the era of the Galactic Empire and also a former Ex-Jedi to Luke's New Jedi Order, the Sith will officially return to where any force user will have no choice but to swear allegiance. Hux, for this motive, responds that this will only be possible if the Knights succeed in killing Luke Skywalker and Rey.
Meanwhile, Snoke is in his meditation room using the force to influence his secret motivation. He begins to remember when he was only a child when the New Republic presents him the coffins of his now deceased mother and father. Already in complete sadness, he is approached by Luke, along with the same female Jedi who Kylo was fighting in the simulation chamber, who offers his condolences and apologies as he states to Snoke that it was not intentional for his parents to die. Snoke, still distraught, stares into Luke's eyes as he first sees a vision of Luke losing his anger in the Emperor's throne room on the second Death Star and cutting off Darth Vader's arm, only to then see a vision of Anakin fighting Obi-Wan on Mustafar, to only then see Obi-Wan defeat Darth Maul in the Palace of Theed on Naboo, to next see Darth Maul being brutally trained by Darth Sidious, only to finally see Darth Sidious kill Darth Plagueis in his sleep before having more and more back to back visions of past Jedi and Sith fighting each other leaving huge trails of destruction behind; this ultimately causes Snoke to suddenly awaken from his meditation. While cautiously looking around the room to be sure he is safe, Snoke then looks down at the ring on his left hand which contains a black lightsaber crystal. While gazing at the crystal, Snoke states to himself that only he knows the truth and that soon there will be no Sith or Jedi; "I will be all that is left of the force."
In the simulation chamber, Kylo Ren battles the same female Jedi in the temple on Yavin IV only for him to once again defeat her. Suddenly, a clone of the female Jedi emerges from behind and attacks Kylo while telling him he will not succeed. Enraged, he battles her and defeats her once again. Next, two more clones of the female Jedi ignite their lightsabers and engage Kylo by telling him his uncle is the only righteous being in the galaxy. In return, an even more enraged Kylo battles and defeats them by using the force to throw them into the main door that leads into the Grand Temple's throne room where Luke, Han, and Chewie were awarded for destroying the first Death Star. At the end of the throne room, another clone of the female Jedi ignites her lightsaber stating to Kylo that following the dark side of the force is not the right way. The clone goes on to state that she knew this wasn't the right way, that Kylo's mother, father, uncle, and grandfather also knew this wasn't the right way but that she doesn't understand why he can't accept that the dark side is not the right way. Enraged now more than ever, Kylo, while using the force to destroy the throne room, runs to her and battles her. The clone finally tells him that he is truly nothing if he follows the dark side of the force before Kylo strikes her down and defeats her. As the simulation holographically shuts down, Kylo explodes in anger while also unleashing the force and damaging the chamber. While exiting the chamber, Kylo approaches a couple of nearby Stormtroopers and orders them to accompany him to the prisoner section where the remaining Resistance is being held.
Once arriving at the prison cell that is holding the remaining Resistance, Kylo storms into the cell and uses the force to paralyze Poe Dameron, Admiral Ackbar, C-3PO, BB-8, Snap Wexley, and the rest of the Resistance, except for Leia, against the walls and ceiling of the cell. While Leia stares at Kylo in shock and fear, he then approaches her only to use the force and throw her to the other side of the cell. Kylo then grabs Leia by the neck and holds her against the wall; he requests that Leia attempt to kill him. In response, Leia refuses and states that she would never kill her own son. Kylo then asks her if she still loves him after murdering his aunt, Mara Jade (the female Jedi he was fighting in the simulation chamber), and his father, Han. Leia responds to Kylo, while getting emotional, that she will always love him as anyone can learn the error of their ways and be redeemed. Kylo finally asks her if the children that tormented him in his youth, and the Senators of the New Republic that publicized the Skywalker family name to the point he wasn't able to have a normal life, deserve to be redeemed; Leia apologizes in response. Kylo, enraged, throws Leia across the cell once again and ignites his lightsaber while stating that if wasn't for the device that's being constructed, he would've killed her right then and there. He then slowly turns to the others paralyzed against the walls before finally putting his attention on C-3PO. As Kylo slowly approaches 3PO with his lightsaber, Leia pleas for him not do what she senses he is going to do. Kylo, standing in front of 3PO, asks him if he ever loved him. 3PO, while in a panicked state, states he can understand what Kylo's currently going through. Kylo destroys 3PO in rage with his lightsaber as a response to his statement causing Leia to breakdown and everyone else, paralyzed on the walls and ceiling, to scream in horror. Kylo then commands the Stormtroopers standing by to have 3PO's remains disintegrated and he releases the remaining Resistance from being paralyzed as he leaves the cell.
Meanwhile, in a different cell, Finn (all by himself) begins to remember Rey from the time they introduced each other on the Millennium Falcon to where he, Han, and Chewie rescued her at Starkiller Base. Out of random, Kylo with some of his Stormtroopers enter the cell. Finn asks Kylo how much more torture he's going to do before killing him, however Kylo (still in enraged) uses the force to throw Finn to the ceiling only to throw him right back down. Kylo simply states to Finn that he can do whatever he wants to him and that he knows nothing of true suffering. Finn counters Kylo's statement stating that he's never known who his real family is and that he has always been a slave to the First Order. Kylo then uses the force to lift Finn into the air and while also showing him a vision. In the vision, Finn sees Airah Calrissian holding a baby while tending to her injured husband, Lando, in the middle of an attack. He then sees a tall alien creature standing over Airah with a long amphibious serpent that acts as a sort of staff. The creature then uses the serpent staff, kills Airah and Lando, and takes the baby. The vision finally fast forwards to a group of Stormtroopers killing the creature, along with other creatures of the same species, and taking the baby. Kylo ends the vision and releases Finn, only to finally state before leaving his cell that what Finn saw in the vision was "where he came from."
Back on Ahch-To, Rey is continuing her training by going through an obstacle course while using a Seeker Droid. With the course ending at the Millennium Falcon, Rey decides to take a break from her training and check on Reelo. Back inside the Falcon at the medical bay, Luke observes Reelo while Chewie and R2 are still overseeing him. As Rey approaches Luke, Luke states that Reelo doesn't have much longer left to live. Disheartened by the news, Rey asks what's going to happen to the rest of the Knights. Luke responds that Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek are already angered enough at the loss of Alora and that Reelo's death will only cause more anger. Rey then asks if Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek would truly try to kill both her and Luke if they were to be let go. Luke responds that when he spoke to the four of them he sensed mostly hatred, pain, and betrayal inside of them. Luke goes on state however that there's always a way to show someone the light but the question for Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek is how. Trying to also figure out a way to show the Knights the light, Rey reminds Luke that he had stated that it was Snoke who caused the Knights to turn against Luke. Luke first asks Rey how much she knows about the war against the Yuuzhan Vong; Rey is completely unfamiliar with this conflict. Luke begins by explaining that the Yuuzhan Vong were a race from outside the galaxy that were against the Jedi, Sith, and the force as a whole while also using technology that was organically based. Luke goes on to explain that some of the members of this race made themselves known right after the fall of the Galactic Empire but the war itself didn't actually begin till seven years after the Empire's fall. He reveals that at this time, besides himself, there were only four other members to the New Jedi Order; Mara Jade Skywalker (Luke's wife and a former Hand to the Emperor along with Vyvin), Vyvin Droyka, Lor San Tekka, and Shira Elan Colla Brie. Luke goes on to explain that one year after the war began, Shira surrendered and swore allegiance to the Vong with her even marrying and having a child with the Vong's Supreme Overlord; it's revealed that the child of the Supreme Overlord and Shira is Snoke. Luke then reveals that during the final part of the war, four years after it began, Luke, Mara, Lor, and Vyvin engaged the Supreme Overlord and Shira. He also states that he gave the order to Mara, Lor, and Vyvin, as was taught in their training, that the Supreme Overlord and Shira were to be brought to justice alive. Vyvin however, who had problems sympathizing with the ways of the Jedi (like Shira) since joining, decided to fully embrace her dark side energy to bring down the two. With Lor heavily injured from their engagement, Luke and Mara tried to stop Vyvin but she succeeded in killing the Supreme Overlord and Shira. Snoke (still a child) bore witness to Luke and Mara standing over his parents' dead bodies and Vyvin injured on the ground. Luke then states right after the war had ended, Mara discharged Vyvin from the Jedi Order and that her and Luke were tasked with presenting the bodies of the Supreme Overlord and Shira to Snoke (now the last Vong). Luke stated to Snoke it was not intentional for his parents to die but Snoke already began showing signs of absolute fear when he told him this. It was from that point on that Snoke feared both Luke and Mara and even showed hints of "fearing the force." Rey, intrigued by all of this, asks Luke how Snoke specifically took on Ben, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, Baldarek, Reelo, and Alora as his new apprentices. Luke begins by stating a year after the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War, he, Mara, and Lor were once again tasked with creating a New Jedi Order and therefore took on a dozen students, with Ben, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, Baldarek, Reelo, and Alora being among them. Luke goes on to explain that, as the years went on, the training of his students was going better than he could have ever hoped for, with even Ben, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, Baldarek, Reelo, and Alora coming closer to terms that they do have a purpose through the force. The only thing however that baffled the seven of them (since they were taught all about what happened during the Yuuzhan Vong War) is why the Supreme Overlord and Shira were killed instead of redeemed. Luke and Mara both revealed that it was not in the intention to have them killed but that it was Vyvin, now part of the newly formed First Order by this point, that disobeyed them. Ben allegedly asked Luke and Mara if Vyvin could be redeemed but Mara states that it was her choice to sympathize with the ways of the Sith and not the Jedi. This ultimately makes Ben and the other six curious about the ways of the Sith; Ben starts gaining an obsession with Darth Vader because of this. Hoping this would draw them away from getting more curious about the Sith, Luke, Mara, and Lor tasked the students with finding the lost lightsabers of the Jedi instead of constructing new ones. As a result of this task, Ben, secretly growing an obsession with Darth Vader, traveled to Bespin to retrieve Anakin/Luke's lightsaber (still intact) from the planet's mechanically modified core. Jaden traveled to Yavin IV's nearby gas giant, Yavin Prime, and retrieved Obi-Wan's lightsaber (heavily damaged but later modified) from the planet's core made of rock and exotic ices; the remanence of the first Death Star were also found on the planet's core. Rosh and Tavion both traveled to Coruscant where they would both retrieve Mace Windu and Yoda's lightsabers from the abandoned Imperial Archives while Baldarek, Reelo, Alora, and the other students would travel to worlds that were involved in the Clone Wars to retrieve fallen Jedi lightsabers. Hoping that Ben, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, Baldarek, Reelo, and Alora would become more curious with the ways of the Jedi and it's history as a result of this task, Luke, Mara, and Lor began completing the final stages of training in order to officially establish, once again, the New Jedi Order. Unknown to Luke however, Ben got more obsessed with Darth Vader by using Anakin/Luke's lightsaber and began growing quickly with the force which had an influence on Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, Baldarek, Reelo, and Alora since they knew his secret. Finally, eight years after the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War, Luke, Mara, and Lor, believing that Ben and the six had no temptation of the Sith left in them, sent all of their students on an undercover mission to gather intelligence regarding the still newly formed First Order. It was during this mission when Ben's presence was sensed by Snoke and Vyvin who both lured him into believing that the Jedi were an eternal plague and that the First Order stands to avenge the Empire to cure this plague, bringing freedom to the galaxy. Vyvin would even go so far as to admire Darth Vader and state to Ben that Luke is using him and the other students as "tools of his disposal to create a Jedi dominated galaxy." This finally pushed Ben to become Sith and rebel against Luke and the Jedi. With the mission being complete and intelligence being gathered by the students, Ben secretly calls to order a meeting behind Luke, Mara, and Lor's back at the Grand Temple's throne room where he explains Luke's true intentions, according to Snoke and Vyvin, and asks his fellow students to rebel against Luke and the Jedi. Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, Baldarek, Reelo, and Alora are convinced and swear allegiance to Ben while the other students call out Ben and stand on Luke's side. Seeing the other students as the bullies that tormented him as a child, Ben unleashes his anger and ignites Anakin/Luke's lightsaber; a full on battle between the students and Ben, with the soon to be Knights of Ren, ensues. Noticing something taking place within the Grand Temple, Mara goes to investigate while telling Luke and Lor to stay behind. Back in the throne room, the only students remaining are Ben, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, Baldarek, Reelo, and Alora; the rest of the students have been slaughtered. Sensing that someone is entering the temple Ben tells the others to make their way to one of the Jedi Shuttles and that he'll defeat whoever is headed their way. Once entering the throne room, Mara notices all of the students slaughtered while Ben stands at the other end of the room with Anakin/Luke's lightsaber still ignited. Though Mara tells Ben to surrender his lightsaber, an enraged Ben engages Mara in a lightsaber duel; the duel is pretty much the same as the simulations Kylo practices. Instead of one defeating the other however, both end up severely wounding each other (Ben gets stabbed in the torso and Mara loses both her hands) to the point where neither one of them can fight. Sensing Ben's injury, Alora, Jaden, and Rosh quickly retrieve Ben and all seven of the soon to be Knights of Ren escape Yavin IV, while Mara loses consciousness from her injury; Anakin/Luke's lightsaber gets left behind at the temple. Noticing one of the Jedi Shuttles taking off, Luke and Lor go to the Grand Temple to find Mara and the rest of the slaughtered students. Luke finally explains to Rey that Mara survived the ordeal, but in an effort to infiltrate the First Order to retrieve Ben, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, Baldarek, Reelo, and Alora, she was killed but severely injured Snoke in the process. Rey is in shock by all that Luke has revealed and is left speechless. While taking a couple moments to absorb all of the information, Rey finally asks Luke that if it was him or Lor who took Anakin/Luke's lightsaber to Maz Kanata. Luke reveals it was he before he exiled himself on Ahch-To and that he ordered Lor to exile himself to a different world so that the Jedi could possibly rise again. Rey then observes Reelo's life monitor and sees as time passes that he is losing the will to live.
Meanwhile in the cavern, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek are still confined in their containment fields with Rosh using his rage to try and break free. Tavion states to Rosh that he is wasting his energy as no force user can break from a containment field. Baldarek, in somewhat of a meditation state, informs everyone that he is sensing Reelo losing the will to live but can also feel the presence of Luke and Rey with him. Jaden gets even more disgusted that Luke and Rey are just observing Reelo as he dies and states that the medics of the First Order probably have treatments to save him. Tavion replies to Jaden that there's no way to contact the First Order, Kylo, or Snoke while confined to their containment fields and that they too will suffer the same fate as Reelo and Alora if they're kept in their containment fields for too long. Baldarek replies to Tavion that logically that would happen but that the real question is will Luke and Rey be foolish enough to deactivate their fields. Jaden states that the feelings he sensed in Luke and Rey may indeed lead to that decision as Luke and Rey desperately wants them to return to the light. Rosh adds that desperate request will be Luke and Rey's undoing and will prevent any Jedi from rising ever again. Baldarek counters Rosh's statement stating that Rey is quite powerful and that if Luke was easy to kill, they wouldn't be confined to the containment fields they're in. Rosh replies to Baldarek by asking if he believes that they can't win against Luke and Rey, even with all their rage and might. Tavion replies to Baldarek that when they fought Rey, she sensed an energy inside of her that was similar to that of Luke but way stronger than their previous masters Mara and Lor. Jaden adds that when Kylo battled Mara back when they escaped from Yavin IV, the battle ended in a draw nearly costing both their lives. Baldarek finally adds that right when Starkiller Base was about to be destroyed, Kylo lost the duel to Rey. Rosh questions Baldarek's statement however as he was lead to believe that Kylo allowed Rey to build up force energy that would give her the upper hand. Tavion explains to Rosh that regardless of how powerful Rey was then, there's no question that she has since become more powerful thanks to her training with Luke. Rosh finally asks that since Snoke, Kylo, and the rest of the First Order won't get a response due to their confinement in the containment fields, that if Jaden, Tavion, and Baldarek believe they'll already be dead when the entire First Order decides to show up.
Back on the Supremacy, Snoke is still in his meditation room using the force to complete his long awaited lightsaber; he does not add his black lightsaber crystal into the hilt just yet however. He then goes into deep thought, contemplating a plan that he has been waiting to unleash since he first laid eyes on Luke and Mara; a plan that will, in a way, avenge his parents and what his people were trying to accomplish. Just then, Vyvin along with Hux and Phasma enter the meditation room and inform Snoke that the mind wiping device is finished and the assimilation of General Leia and the rest of the Resistance is ready to begin.
Making their way to the laboratory section of the Supremacy, Leia, Poe, Ackbar, Snap, BB-8, Finn, and the remaining Resistance are being escorted by Stormtroopers. Once in the laboratory, Snoke, Vyvin, Hux (holding an old chest with an Imperial symbol), and Phasma are waiting anxiously to reveal to the Resistance of their assimilation. After everyone arrives, Kylo then enters the laboratory only to be approached by Vyvin who informs him that they both will use their dark side energy to power the device. Overhearing their conversation, Leia asks Kylo and Vyvin what kind of execution device it is; Leia has no idea the device is a mind wiping device and believes her and the Resistance are going to be executed one by one. Vyvin then approaches Leia and explains that her and the Resistance will not be executed, nor harmed, but will be changed for the better. The Stormtroopers then escort Leia to the device and even take the liberty of strapping her in. While this takes place, Vyvin explains to the Resistance that the First Order's intentions are not to harm them but to "save them from themselves." She then goes on to explain that the Resistance will have no memory of who they are, while also containing negative feelings through the help of the device being powered by dark side energy; Leia and the Resistance are shocked by this revelation. Kylo finally approaches Leia stating that he never loved her as his mother but that she will make an "excellent apprentice." Shocked by this revelation, Leia begins to panic as Kylo and Vyvin activate the device. While being assimilated, Leia screams in pain as she begins having final flashbacks of her and Han getting married sometime after the Battle of Endor and giving birth to Ben as her memory is getting erased; the Resistance screams in horror while this takes place. After the process is complete and being unstrapped, Leia begins showing signs of curiosity of the dark side energy she is feeling while also of having no memory of who she is or where she is. Vyvin then approaches her and states that she has been saved from the Resistance as they took everything from her, even her memories; this ultimately gives Leia the impression that the Resistance is her enemy allowing her to fuel anger. Vyvin orders one of the Stormtroopers to pull one of the Resistance members from the crowd (they choose Snap) and have them stand in front of Leia. Vyvin then orders Hux to give her the chest he is holding, only for Vyvin to open the chest for Leia; inside the chest is an old Inquisitor lightsaber from the era of the Galactic Empire. Vyvin finally tells Leia she has her full blessing to take the lightsaber and strike Snap down with all of her hate. The Resistance, realizing Leia has been brainwashed into becoming a Sith, begins to panic. Locking eyes on Snap and having her hatred fueled more and more, Leia ignites the lightsaber's double blades and strikes down Snap, killing him; the Resistance is panicking in horror while this takes place. Snoke then approaches Leia and states that she will make an excellent addition as a secondary apprentice; Snoke gives the order to Vyvin and Kylo to assimilate the rest of the Resistance right after stating this. One by one, Poe, Ackbar, and the remaining resistance are strapped into the device against their will and are assimilated into the First Order; BB-8 is simply reprogrammed instead of entering the device. As Finn (the final individual to be assimilated) gets strapped in, he remembers hearing Rey's voice saying "we'll see each other again, I believe that;" he gets emotional remembering what Rey said since he will no longer have any memory of her once he's assimilated. As the device is activated with Kylo and Vyvin's dark side energy, Finn begins screaming in pain while remembering the vision Kylo showed him of his family except this time Airah (right before dying) says Finn's real name; Finn's name is Arik Calrissian. Once the assimilation is complete and Finn is unstrapped, he is approached by Phasma who welcomes him back into the First Order; she once again refers to Finn as FN-2187.
Shortly after the assimilations are complete, Snoke is on the bridge of the Supremacy finally installing his black lightsaber crystal into his lightsaber hilt while, once again, in deep thought. From behind, Vyvin, along with Phasma and Hux, approach Snoke and inform him the assimilations were a complete success with none of the Resistance showing any signs of remembering their past lives; Phasma even adds that they are completely loyal to the First Order. Snoke then asks the three if there is any update on the Knights of Ren; whether or not they have successfully killed Rey and Luke Skywalker. Hux responds that he and his officers have been trying endlessly to contact them but that there has been no response. Vyvin suggests however, since there is a possibility that Rey and Luke defeated the Knights, that maybe the newly assimilated Resistance be put to the test and be sent to Ahch-To to kill Rey and Luke. She even goes on to state that with Leia now a Sith, and with Kylo, that maybe they would have a better chance on bringing Rey and Luke down than the Knights would. Snoke responds by first commanding Hux to set a course for Ahch-To so that the Supremacy is on standby, while also stating that he and Kylo will accompany the assimilated Resistance to the surface; Snoke also commands Vyvin and Phasma to join them.
Meanwhile in Kylo's quarters, Kylo gazes upon the burnt helmet of his grandfather, Darth Vader, while also holding his lightsaber. While gazing, Kylo remembers being received both Darth Vader's burnt helmet and heavily damaged lightsaber from Vyvin during his first days of training as a Knight of Ren in order to influence him more into the dark side of the force; it's revealed that Kylo's lightsaber is actually Vader's lightsaber but modified due to the hilt being burned entering the forest moon of Endor's atmosphere and the crystal being heavily damaged requiring a two sided vent. From behind, Vyvin enters Kylo's quarters and informs him that the Supremacy is now headed towards Ahch-To and that Snoke has ordered that he accompany him, her, Phasma, and the assimilated Resistance to terminate Rey and Luke. Puzzled, Kylo asks Vyvin if the Knights didn't succeed in killing Rey and Luke. Vyvin reveals that Hux tried contacting them but that there has been no response; this makes Kylo assume that the Knights were defeated. Vyvin also adds that because of this possibility, Snoke believes he was mistaken and that Kylo, along with the now assimilated Leia, may have a better chance in killing Rey and Luke after all. While absorbing this information and looking back at Vader's burnt helmet, Vyvin finally adds, as a means of influence, that maybe Kylo is ready to continue the legacy Darth Vader could not.
In the Shuttle/TIE Fighter bay of the Supremacy, the assimilated Resistance are being suited into red Stormtrooper like armor (including helmets) with Phasma overseeing; BB-8 is also there but is now painted in black with a First Order symbol. As Kylo and Vyvin arrive in the bay, Vyvin presents Leia with an ancient Sith robe (recovered from the abandoned Imperial Archives) written with Muun dialect to go with her armor in order to signify that Leia is now the apprentice of Kylo and Snoke. Phasma then briefs the assimilated Resistance that they are currently on course to Ahch-To to kill Rey and Luke and to retrieve the Knights of Ren "if they are alive." After the briefing, Snoke arrives in the bay and commands Leia to step forward and kneel before him and Kylo. While kneeling, Kylo asks Leia the question of the Sith; "what is peace." Leia responds by stating the Sith Creed; "peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I shall gain strength. Through strength, I shall gain power. Through power, I shall achieve victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The force shall set me free." After Leia finishes, Snoke, Kylo, Vyvin, and Phasma notice from the bay entrance that the Supremacy has dropped out of light speed and is in orbit over Ahch-To.
Back on Ahch-To inside the medical bay of the Falcon, Reelo is suddenly hit with a moment of energy as he senses Snoke, Kylo, and the rest of the First Order are near; this catches Luke and Rey's attention as they too begin sensing a "great darkness." Luke, Rey, Chewie, and R2 then exit the Falcon and spot the Supremacy in the sky orbiting Ahch-To. While witnessing, Luke first orders Rey to take Reelo off life support and to carry him towards the cavern where Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek are being held, only to then order Chewie and R2 to stay in the Falcon.
In the cavern, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek are also hit with the same energy as Reelo as they too sense the presence of Snoke, Kylo, and the rest of the First Order.
Rey immediately takes Reelo (now back in the state of losing the will to live) off life support and carries him off the Falcon while Chewie and R2 stay aboard and close the hatch. Once off the Falcon, Rey, while carrying Reelo, and Luke quickly make their way towards the cavern.
Meanwhile, the Shuttle carrying Snoke, Kylo, Vyvin, Phasma, and the assimilated Resistance touches down on Ahch-To right next to where the Upsilon-Class Command Shuttle the Knights of Ren used to get to Ahch-To landed. The Shuttle's pilot (Poe Dameron) does a quick scan for lifeforms on the Upsilon Shuttle but nothing is detected. Snoke then informs Kylo, Vyvin, Phasma, and the assimilated Resistance that he and Poe will remain onboard the Shuttle but orders them to give a signal if they either succeed on killing Rey and Luke or if they're in trouble. While Kylo, Leia, and Vyvin can sense the presence of Rey, Luke and the Knights, Vyvin senses a strange feeling about Rey as if she "personally knows her." As the hatch to the Shuttle opens, BB-8 is first to exit with Kylo, Leia, Vyvin, Phasma, and the assimilated Resistance (except for Poe) following in from behind; Kylo, Leia, and Vyvin ignite their lightsabers at this point with Phasma activating her baton. Sensing the presence of Rey, Luke, and the Knights even more, Kylo, Leia, Vyvin, Phasma, the assimilated Resistance, and BB-8 make their way towards the cavern.
Once Rey, still carrying Reelo, and Luke arrive in the cavern, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek, upon seeing the sight of Reelo almost lifeless, state to Rey and Luke that they will not succeed in defeating Snoke, Kylo, and the First Order. Just then, Luke pauses as he senses the presence of someone extremely close to him accompanying the First Order but is unable to pinpoint who it is. All of the sudden, Rey, Luke, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek go dead quiet as they hear the beeps of BB-8 entering the cavern. Rey, recognizing the beeps, assures Luke that everything might be okay after all and that BB-8 may have brought Finn and the rest of the Resistance with him. As BB-8 enters the layer, Rey immediately notices BB-8's new look with the First Order symbol and goes into complete shock with what she is witnessing; BB-8 makes an alarm noise as this takes place. Luke immediately orders Rey to drop Reelo and hide in another part of the cavern while Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek begin yelling for help. Noticing BB-8 might follow them, Luke immediately uses the force to damage BB-8, shutting him down, before running off to hide with Rey in another part of the cavern. After running off, Kylo, Leia, Vyvin, Phasma, and the assimilated Resistance enter the cavern where they notice the Knights trapped in containment fields and Reelo on the ground almost lifeless. Kylo and Vyvin immediately tend to Reelo who apologizes to both of them before taking his final breath. Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek inform Kylo that Rey was responsible for the deaths of Reelo and Alora and that Luke imprisoned them in the cavern. Enraged for what Rey and Luke have done, Kylo yells for Rey and Luke to reveal themselves; there is no response. As a result, Kylo commands Phasma and the assimilated Resistance to search the caverns for Rey and Luke while he, Leia, and Vyvin find a way to deactivate Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek's containment fields; Kylo, Leia, and Vyvin shut off their lightsabers at this point.
As Phasma and the assimilated Resistance enter the deeper parts of the cavern, Rey and Luke examine them while hiding in different areas. Unable to find them, Phasma orders the assimilated Resistance to split into groups with Finn leading one of the groups; Phasma once again refers to Finn as FN-2187. Recognizing Finn's original name, Rey, in complete shock, says his name; she is immediately spotted and the assimilated Resistance opens fire. As Rey begins to run, the assimilated Resistance goes in hot pursuit but not before Luke reveals himself and uses the force to engage them. Noticing that Luke could accidentally kill Finn, Rey ignites her lightsaber and joins the battle protecting Luke while looking for Finn. Phasma, with her baton, engages Luke but he ultimately protects himself by igniting his lightsaber. With the assimilated Resistance either killed or severely injured, both Rey and Luke engage Phasma in a duel which ends with Luke stabbing Phasma in the leg and Rey cutting off her arm. Shutting off his lightsaber, Luke tends to Phasma by taking off her mask while Rey shuts off her lightsaber and searches for Finn. Once Phasma's mask is removed, Luke asks her to identify herself; Phasma states her status among the First Order as a response. Rey, meanwhile, begins removing the masks of the assimilated Resistance in search for Finn; she goes into shock while removing each mask as she recognizes each member of the Resistance. She eventually finds Finn and removes his mask but when she states his name he does not recognize her and attacks her. Luke immediately notices and protects her by using the force to move a rock in order to injure Finn; Rey begins to breakdown as she does not understand why Finn would try to attack her. Luke then begins to notice each member of the Resistance and asks Phasma what's going on. Phasma replies to Luke and Rey that they were changed to serve the First Order and no longer have any memory of who they once were. Shocked and saddened by this revelation, Rey begins experiencing feelings of rage and, as a result, ignites her lightsaber and attacks Phasma. Though Luke tries to stop her, Rey succeeds by thrusting her lightsaber into Phasma's chest while breaking down and demanding from Phasma why she would take away Finn from her; Phasma succumbs to the stab however. While breaking down even more, Luke shuts off Rey's lightsaber and holds her, telling her there was nothing either of them could have done to prevent this.
Back in the main part of the cavern where Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek are being held, Vyvin, who has searched around the cavern, informs Kylo, Leia, and the Knights that the controls to shutdown the containment fields are no where to be found. In deep thought, Kylo suggests that maybe the controls are not in the cavern but instead at a different location. Baldarek then suggests to Kylo that the controls may possibly be wherever Reelo was held however Jaden adds that none of them know where he was held. Vyvin, however, asks Kylo and the Knights if they know how Rey got to Ahch-To as she believes whatever ship she used maybe hiding the controls for the containment fields. To Kylo, Leia, Vyvin, and the Knights' surprise, Luke and Rey re-enter the main cavern and inform them the controls for the containment fields are in the Millennium Falcon; Kylo, Leia, and Vyvin ignite their lightsabers upon seeing Luke and Rey. Luke informs them that him and Rey do not wish to fight and they will give them the controls to free the Knights if they allow him, Rey, and the injured assimilated Resistance to escape. While saying this, Luke begins sensing the familiar presence once again from Leia but he is still unaware of who she is. Vyvin, however, stares at Rey in complete shock and senses what she first felt when she arrived on Ahch-To; she now knows exactly who Rey is. Before anyone else can say a word, Vyvin responds by first stating that the assimilated Resistance belongs to the First Order. She then begins to alter Luke's request and states that if he gives the controls to her, Kylo, and Leia (not mentioning her name), they will allow him to go but that they will keep the Resistance and take Rey with them. Rey then tries to bargain with Vyvin, saying they can have the Resistance but asking why she wants her. As a response, Vyvin shuts off her lightsaber and approaches Rey asking her to take her hand. Rey, believing at first it maybe a trap, begins to start sensing something familiar about Vyvin; her curiousity allows her to take Vyvin's hand. Once Rey and Vyvin's hands make contact, Rey immediately has a vision of herself as an infant in a large laboratory tank and seeing Vyvin's face outside the tank; Rey mentally breaks down and falls to the ground because of this. As Luke aids her, Rey quickly stands back up and asks Vyvin who she really is. In return, Vyvin ignites her lightsaber and states to Rey that she is her "creator;" Luke, Kylo, and the Knights are shocked by Vyvin's revelation. Vyvin then goes on state that since Rey is her creation, she'll do exactly as she says. Now enraged, Rey ignites her lightsaber and attacks Vyvin with Kylo and Leia intervening and Luke igniting his lightsaber to defend Rey; a full on lightsaber duel ensues because of this. While dueling, Luke slices open Leia's helmet revealing her identity; Luke is in shock by this discovery. Seeing that Luke is distracted, Kylo seizes the opportunity to kill him but Luke defends himself and destroys Kylo's lightsaber. Leia, fueled with dark side energy, continues to engage Luke only to kick him to the ground and hold her lightsaber towards his neck; Luke is in shock that Leia was also assimilated. While Rey continues to duel Vyvin, she sees Leia holding her lightsaber towards Luke's neck; this ultimately distracts her. Because of this, Vyvin seizes the opportunity and stabs Rey in the shoulder; Rey falls to the ground as a result and Vyvin also points her lightsaber towards Rey's neck. As witnesses, Jaden, Rosh, Tavion, and Baldarek yell at Leia and Vyvin commanding that they kill Luke and Rey and free them. Vyvin declines their request however and commands that Kylo contact Snoke to finish the job. While Leia and Vyvin continue to hold their lightsabers toward Luke and Rey's necks, Kylo grabs his communicator and informs Snoke of his location and that Rey and Luke have been defeated.
Back in the Shuttle, Snoke answers Kylo's message and informs him that he is on his way. Before leaving however, Snoke goes briefly into deep thought, while holding his lightsaber, of what he is about to execute before ordering Poe to have the Shuttle on standby for immediate take off; Poe grants Snoke's request.
Back in the cavern, Luke continues to stare at Leia shock while her lightsaber is still pointed towards his neck. Rey, still having Vyvin's lightsaber pointed at her neck, asks Vyvin who were the two individuals that left her on Jakku if they weren't her mother and father. Soon after asking the question, Snoke slowly enters the cavern and examines what has taken place. Kylo immediately approaches Snoke and kneels before him stating that everything he has requested has been fulfilled. Snoke first looks at the Knights, still in their containment fields, before slowly approaching Luke; Luke immediately recognizes Snoke. As Snoke kneels down towards Luke, as Leia's lightsaber is still pointing towards his neck, he states to him that he was once afraid of him but now wonders if Luke is afraid of him. In return, Luke apologizes once again for what happened to his family and that he only means peace and not violence. Snoke then rises, walking around the cavern, and states to Luke that he understands that both Jedi and Sith want peace but as long as there are Jedi, Sith, and users of the force as a whole, there will be no peace. With everyone in the cavern listening, Snoke explains that his people (the Yuuzhan Vong) were not trying to destroy the galaxy, but protect it from it's main threats; the Jedi, the Sith, and the force as a whole. Snoke approaches Luke once again and states as long as there are Jedi, the Sith will rise and try to dominate and that if the Sith rise, the Jedi will do the same in return. He reveals that when he first laid eyes on Luke, he never wanted to see another Jedi, Sith, or any force user ever again and that he wants to see all of them, "extinct, never to return." Baffled by Snoke's statement, Rosh asks Snoke why he's master of all the Knights and the First Order if he's against the Sith. Snoke approaches Rosh revealing that he was only using the Knights and the First Order in order to carry out his plan of causing the eradication of the Jedi, Sith, and all force users. While explaining this, Snoke ignites his black bladed lightsaber and thrusts it into Rosh; killing him. With everyone in the cavern left in shock, Snoke finally reveals that he will be all that is left of the force before throwing his lightsaber to kill Jaden, Tavion, and Baldarek. After killing them and catching his lightsaber, Snoke uses the force to lift Kylo into the air while also using the force to paralyze Vyvin and control her body; pointing her lightsaber away from Rey and towards Kylo. Snoke then uses the force to push Kylo into Vyvin's lightsaber ultimately killing him; Vyvin screams in horror from what she is witnessing. While still paralyzed by the force, Vyvin is approached by Snoke who then proceeds to kill her. To avoid her escaping from her position, Snoke force paralyzes Rey to the ground as he points his lightsaber towards her neck while also stating that her death will mean nothing as she is just a "failed experiment" and doesn't have "a family to avenge." Before Snoke can kill Rey, Luke immediately uses the force to ignite Vyvin's lightsaber and quickly (like an arrow) moves it across the cavern, hitting Snoke's hands and causing him to drop his lightsaber, free Rey from Snoke's force paralyzation, and moving Leia's lightsaber blade away from his neck. Rey quickly grabs her lightsaber and runs toward Luke while Luke immediately kicks Leia to the ground causing her to drop and shut off her lightsaber. As Snoke recovers from his hand burns, he quickly moves his hands as if he is going to use the force to paralyze both Luke and Rey. Before he can do so however, Luke uses the force to collapse the cavern while keeping himself, Rey, the shut off BB-8, and Leia in a force bubble. Noticing her lightsaber is now part of the cavern rubble, Leia tries to attack Luke and Rey but not before Luke also uses the force to put Leia to sleep. Luke then asks Rey to try to use what she's been taught to try and move some of the rubble to create a tunnel to where Phasma and the remaining Resistance are located. With Rey quieting her mind and in full concentration, she slowly moves some of the rubble out of the way to create a tunnel towards the other part of the cavern. Rey then throws Leia on her back, while Luke grabs BB-8, as the four exit the tunnel, release the rubble, and head towards the other part of the cavern.
Once in the other part the cavern, Luke and Rey notice the only Resistance members that might have a chance are Admiral Ackbar and Finn. Luke immediately grabs Ackbar (passed out) and gives Finn (also passed out) to Rey and the six make their way towards another area of the cavern where there maybe an exit. Once reaching to what they believe is the exit, Luke and Rey notice the entry way is completely caved in. As a result, both Luke and Rey use the force by merging their powers together and removing the rubble away from the entry way. The six exit the cavern once the rubble has been removed and quickly make their way towards the Falcon.
Meanwhile at the original entrance to the cavern, now caved in, a blast of rubble explodes out of the cavern with Snoke, heavily injured, slowly making his way out of the cavern with his lightsaber ignited. As he exits the cavern, Snoke sees the Millennium Falcon quickly fly by and off towards the horizon.
Onboard the Falcon, Rey and Chewie pilot the ship towards the other side of the planet so that the Falcon won't be detected by the Supremacy once they enter space. In the medical bay of the Falcon, Luke puts Leia, Finn, and Ackbar on life support, begins reprogramming BB-8, and oversees the four with R2.
Snoke slowly enters the Shuttle, but is in complete fear that Luke and Rey have escaped and thus believes that there is still a chance for the Jedi to return. As Snoke sits inside the Shuttle, Poe notices his injuries and asks if he's okay. Snoke replies that he be taken back to the Supremacy immediately; the Shuttle takes off, leaving Upsilon Shuttle behind, and heads towards the Supremacy.
Reaching the other side of Ahch-To, Rey and Chewie increase the Falcon's altitude and eventually reach space. Once leaving Ahch-To's orbit, Rey activates the hyperdrive and the Falcon goes into light speed.
Back on the Supremacy, the Shuttle that now only carries Snoke and Poe arrives in the Shuttle/TIE fighter bay. Already alerted of Snoke's injuries, a medical team enters the Shuttle and escorts Snoke to the Supremacy's medical bay.
A little while later, after somewhat recuperating, Snoke enters the bridge of the Supremacy along with Poe. Snoke reveals to the crew, including Hux, of what he witnessed but states that Leia, Kylo, and Vyvin turned against him and this action has opened his eyes; the Jedi, the Sith, and the force as a whole are all dangerous. He then goes on by revealing his past, that he was the son of the Supreme Overlord of the Yuuzhan Vong, and that we he will continue the mission the Vong were unable to do; to cause the eradication of the Jedi, Sith, and all force users. With Hux and some of the First Order officers revealing that they feel betrayed, as their allegiance is more towards the Galactic Empire which was part of the Sith, Snoke uses the force and paralyzes everyone on the bridge (except Poe) against the walls, windows, floors, and ceiling and even ignites his lightsaber. Snoke then states that everyone on the bridge has a choice, that they will either swear allegiance to him and the eradication of the Jedi, Sith, and all force users, or they will be destroyed one by one while he pursues his destiny of eradication; Snoke frees Hux and the entire bridge crew from paralyzation after stating this. Now frightened more than ever, Hux and the rest of the bridge crew kneel before Snoke and swear allegiance. Snoke then asks Hux and the bridge crew to slowly rise and informs them that the "path they are about to take is a path that has not been taken." As Snoke shuts off his lightsaber, he commands Hux to open fire and destroy the island on Ahch-To in an attempt on whoever maybe still alive on the island doesn't escape. The Supremacy opens fire on the island on Ahch-To, destroying it, and leaves orbit of the planet before finally returning to deep space.
While the Millenium Falcon is still in light speed, Rey enters the medical bay to check on Leia, Finn, Ackbar, and BB-8; Luke and R2 are also in the bay monitoring. While the three are still barely conscious and BB-8 is being reprogrammed, Luke states they still will have no memory of who they are and, if anything, will try to attack them; Rey notices Leia, Finn, and Ackbar are strapped into their beds as a precaution. Rey then slowly makes her way to Finn and emotionally states to him that she is sorry that she could not be there to save him and that she will find a way for him to be back to "the friend she once knew." She then turns to Luke, while still emotional, and promises that one day they will find a way to get Finn, Leia, Ackbar, and BB-8 back to their normal selves once again. Luke himself, however, begins to get emotional as he feels guilty for the deaths of Ben, Vyvin, and the Knights. Rey then approaches Luke and states that she also wishes their lives weren't taken but tells him something that Maz Kanata once told her, "that what we seek isn't behind us, it is ahead." She also adds that what is in the past is in the past and that what they experienced could be a lesson to better themselves for the future. Luke smiles at Rey's statement and responds he will never give up on believing that all beings in the galaxy have a purpose and that they will absolutely find a way to restore Leia, Finn, Ackbar, and BB-8 back to their normal selves once again. All of the sudden, Rey, Luke, and R2 feel the Falcon dropping out of light speed and head towards the cockpit. Once in the cockpit, Chewie, Rey, Luke, and R2 see a perfect view of the twin suns from space. While gazing at the suns, Luke states to Rey, Chewie, and R2 that they should allow what they are seeing to be a symbol of hope; no matter the obstacles, there is always a way. The Falcon slowly drifts towards the twin suns before disappearing into the suns' light.
