By: The Duchess of Arendelle
AN: Happy Holidays! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas/Hanukkah/Winter Solstice/ Whatever it may be you celebrate! Here's an update, hope you enjoy! Oh, and the poll is now up on my profile! It's been up for a while, but I checked and it wasn't showing on my profile…. because I forgot turn display on profile on. Derp?
Sorry for any and all mistakes!
"Are you sure you're gonna be okay there by yourself? I can take the rest of the day off and reschedule with the girls and come back right now. I'll just tell them something came up." Anna fretted over the phone as she waited on the subway platform. Elsa laughed gently into the phone.
"Why am I getting such a deja vu feeling right now?"
"Elsa I'm serious. I can come back now if you need me."
Elsa sighed. "No Anna, please, be with your friends. I'll be fine, I promise. If I… If I need you, I'll call, okay?"
Anna maintained a skeptical silence.
"Don't you trust me?" Elsa asked quietly. It was Anna's turn to sigh.
"Of course I trust you, it's just… I worry about you Elsa."
"You worry about me because you don't trust me to be here alone. Especially after the news about Olaf. You think I might…" Elsa trailed off.
"That's not-" Anna was cut off by the loud rumbling of the subway's approach. People hurried and plowed their way into the gray machine as Anna got swept in with the crowd. Grabbing a pole and standing away from the majority of the people, Anna continued.
"That's not true. I worry about you because you're my girlfriend and I love you Elsa."
Elsa closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, letting it out slowly.
"I love you too. I'm sorry, it's just… I feel like a child. Like, I can't be trusted alone anymore. I just, I want you to be able to go to work and hang out with your friends without you worrying if I'll be okay alone. It makes me feel bad knowing you'll be worrying about me so much." Elsa told the redhead truthfully. Anna let a small smile grace her lips.
"Elsa, it's not that I don't trust you, that's just how I am. I'm a worry wort, ask Rapunzel, she'll tell you. When I care about someone, I smother them, with my overbearing love and affection. Sorry snowflake, but you're just gonna have to deal with that." Anna joked, trying to calm the situation before it spiraled even more. Elsa let out a breathy laugh.
"It's a burden I'm willing to take on." she quietly joked back. Anna grinned, she didn't care if she looked like a smiling idiot amongst the glum faces on the subway.
"I'm happy to hear it. By the way, have you heard from Rapunzel lately? I've only seen her leaving to go sight seeing or something. I haven't even been able to have a conversation with her lately." Anna asked contemplatively. Elsa thought back and she noticed she hadn't seen Rapunzel in a while.
"Um, no… Actually… she hasn't been over in almost 2 weeks. Do you think she's okay?" Elsa bit her lip in worry. She hoped Rapunzel wasn't in any type of trouble. Anna shook her head even though she knew Elsa couldn't see.
"Yeah, I'm sure she's fine. But I do think she's up to something." the redhead said suspiciously.
*Corona Street Station. Stopping at Corona Street Station.* The old speakers crackled as people began picking up their bags and belongings in preparation for the stop.
"Well, that's my stop. I'll call you again after I leave the cafe." Anna told the blonde as she hurried off the subway.
"Okay. I guess I'll speak to you soon." Elsa responded, twisting her signature braid with her free hand.
"Yeah. Oh, wait! How about I bring some take out back for once? I've only ever seen you eat Pabi's Pizza that one time and nothing else. How about some Thai or Chinese, I know a great spot near the apartment." Anna said excitedly, walking up the steps and into the cold brisk air of the city streets.
Elsa remained silent on the other end, not knowing how to respond. She never ordered take out because she couldn't stomach the idea of eating it. The only reason she ate Pabi's Pizza was because she'd been there before. Back when her parents were still alive. They'd all gone out for a trip into the city together. The owner of Pabi's was a close friend of her father. Pabi was her father's mentor in college, back before he left the business world to start his own pizza place, a dream of his. Pabi had let Elsa and Olaf see how the pizzas were made. Even a young Elsa was impressed at how nice and clean everything looked and she happily ate the pizza they'd made together. It was the only take out she'd ever eat. But food prepared by nameless faces under mysterious conditions? Did they wash their hands properly? Or the food? Was it cooked to the exact recommended temperature? Were the utensils sanitized? The idea of eating food not cooked by herself made the blonde nauseous.
"Elssaaaa? Are you still there?" Anna asked, checking her phone to see if they had been disconnected. Elsa swallowed hard to alleviate the nauseous feeling.
"I- I'm fine. I'm just not a big fan of, um, Asian take out is all." Anna heard the strain in Elsa's voice and decided to quickly change gears.
"Oh well, it's okay. We can order from Pabi's. I've been dying for a slice anyway." Anna smiled to herself when she heard the blonde sigh in relief.
"That sounds great."
The redhead was approaching Oaken's, she could see Tiana waiting outside the restaurant for her.
"Okay, awesome. So I'll see you tonight." she lowered her voice as she got closer, Tiana noticing her and waving her over with a smile. Anna smiled back and waved with her free hand.
"See you tonight… I love you." Elsa told the redhead in a timorous voice. Anna almost dropped the phone in surprise. She was pretty sure that was the first time Elsa had initiated an I love you under a casual situation. The smile that crossed her face made Tiana raise a suspicious eyebrow as Anna responded with a slightly hushed, "I love you too, bye!"
*********************FROZEN**************************
Ending the call and tucking her phone away in her jacket's pocket, Anna met Tiana in a tight hug.
"Hey girl, glad you made it." Tiana said with a large smile, releasing the redhead from the embrace.
"Yeah me too! Are we the first ones here?" Anna asked, looking around for the others.
"No, everyone's already inside honey. For some reason I was elected to stand out here in the damn cold to meet you at the door." Tia explained, opening the glass cafe doors for Anna and then following in behind her. The redhead heard Tia huff in relief as they stepped into the warm cafe.
"Much better." she said with a laugh. Anna nodded in agreement. It really was. Oaken's was considerably warmer than the harsh breeze blowing outside. The restaurant was filled with the smell of pasta, fresh muffins, and pumpkin spice. It had a cozy familiar feeling to it.
"Oh my goodness!" a loud exclamation sounded from the far side of the cafe followed by a squeal. Anna looked in the direction to see a table full of familiar faces. She quickly hurried over to them, smile still in place.
Alice, Merida, Meg, and Aurora stood from the table and surrounded the redhead, each taking her in an embrace and chatting excitedly.
"Anna darling, it's been too long." Alice told her, placing a quick kiss on each cheek.
"We missed yu Anna!" Merida chimed in as she fiercely hugged her fellow redhead.
"Well, well, the prodigal reporter returns." Meg added dryly with a smirk, hugging Anna. She'd never show it, but the sarcastic brunette was thrilled to see her again.
Lastly there was Aurora. The blonde stared at Anna with a serious expression for a long moment. The smile slowly dropped from the redhead's face as she considered that all of her friends might not be as forgiving of her unexplained absence. Especially since Aurora was one of her best friends, and she hadn't seen or called the woman in over a month.
Just as Anna was about to open her mouth to apologize, a large grin spread across Aurora's face and she pulled the redhead in for a suffocating hug.
"Anna, it's so good to see you." Aurora said softly in her ear. It sounded like the blonde was about to cry and Anna pulled back out of the hug enough to look at her.
"It's great to see you too! All of you. I missed you guys so much." Anna told them, starting to tear up as she came to realize how much she truly did miss seeing them.
"Well, let's all sit down and order some drinks. We have a lot of catching up to do, and you, Miss Anna Summers, need to answer this question for me." Tiana pointedly stared at the redhead as they all reclaimed their spots at the table. Anna settled in between Aurora, who was still holding her hand, and Meg who picked up the menu and began perusing it.
Anna looked confused as she slightly tilted her head.
"And that question would be...?" she asked, gazing at Tiana in curiousity.
"What's your new boyfriend's name?"
AN: Ohhhhhh. Tiana seriously put Anna on the spot. I really hope you enjoyed this chapter! The speed in which the next chapter is updated is completely up to YOU GUYS. I need you to go to my profile and take the poll on who you think Elsa's psychiatrist should be. No, she's not going to have the psychiatrist in any upcoming chapters, but I do need to start setting him/her up, and plotting out the attitude/direction of the character starting next chapter. So don't forget to cast your vote. Thanks!
