Uh, whoever you are… do you practice some sports? Or visit the gym?

Mirii was sliding above the green board, looking left and right. Another sparkle was flashing in the distance, surrounded by square-shaped holes.

"Why such question?" Her eyes squeezed a bit. "Not that I'm suspecting you… but I don't see"

This mode looks just like a videogame… but I know that with those glasses on, you have to control yourself with your movement. I'm a bit worried about you, if you aren't fit

"I'm as fit as an athlete, Mr. Kyle." She snorted. "This activity is nothing compared to what I'm used to do."

Glad to hear! Phew!

Meee too! Tee hee hee!

What about the eyes? Are those burning?

Mirii stopped, as she sighed.

"Mr. Kyle, I'm requesting some silence…" She stares at the flashing sparkle and the square-shaped holes at the same time. "I need concentration… but also some carefulness."

Sure! Sorry for that!

The sparkle moved to its right, while going along the line below, as it stopped on a small dot identical to the left one.

"Uhm… I could slid past that puny obstacle if I reach the lone dot…" Her irises fell on the holes standing on the floor. "Those are making me nervous, actually… if the system pushed me down, when I tried to slid past this whole course… the system might push me downwards, if I slide above those holes."

Her eyes closed.

"I would hate myself to no end, if I get back to the start…" She moved forward, while reopening her eyes. "… I hope I haven't underseen anything else."

The Squid passed the first hole from the left… then she carefully steered herself, in order to pass the next square-like hole on the right. The sparkle moved to the left, as small pieces of it sprung away with ease. Mirii stopped, as she frowned and kept her mouth sealed.

"Nnnnnggh! I-I haven't underseen anything! You have no reason to worry this much!" Her head shook. "Move! Now!"

She resumed her slid, easily passing the hole on the left.

Uuuuuhhh, yo-you are making me sooo nervous…

"Be quiet, Kelly!" She snorted.

Her eyes expanded, as she almost fell on the floor.

"I-I mean, Penny!" Her eyes squeezed.

Huh… Kelly and Penny are indeed similar!

Sweat covered her head.

"I-I got the names confused!" She slowly raises from the floor.

Don't worry! I don't bite when Squids make mistakes… except when they offer me a hot-dogfish!

Eh eh! Good to be reminded your classic self, Penny!

Sometimes I have to do that… it's my duty to make Squids laugh! Tee hee hee!

Mirii smiled a bit.

"… I can't pretend to count on my friends all the time." She sighed silently, as she was about to reach the line. "I can do this… all I need is perfection in my choices!"

Her irises went on the sparkle: it was flashing as always, while standing on the left dot for a brief moment. The floor was present in front of her… as she backed away an inch. With her head aligned to the floor, she dashed in a smooth, delicate wave.

She passed the line and now she turned behind, watching the sparkle move to the other side, releasing another small particle of itself. She dodges to the right, as the miniscule sparkle was gone before it would touch the floor. She backed away, before properly turning to the intended direction and proceeding without thinking about the previous events.

Clapping sounds were reaching her ears, as she somewhat found some slight pain in her eardrums.

Nice one!

Brav-a!

"… I haven't escaped this cursed world of electronics yet." Her head shook, before proceeding over a turn to the left. "Although, I still thank you for the support." She smiled.

You are welcome! Tee hee hee!

It's a great thing that this software doesn't glitch-up as badly in this mode. I'm honestly surprised that such vast fields couldn't even flinch this software… at this point, I'm suspecting that the whole coding job is the culprit here.

"I have the same feeling…" She slid along the turn, as her sight tried to identify the shadowy figures sticking out of the darkness.

Red dots shined through, as the Squid stopped immediately and frowned.

"Monsters!" She put her tentacles in front of her face and waved a bit on the sides. "Is there an abyss on the board's edges?!"

Unfortunately, yes… what are those things, anyway?!

Hit them hard! I'm already punching them in my mind!

The figures jumped out of the shadows… appearing themselves as grey clouds, which were sliding along the board.

"Can I even use my charges to hit those… smog-like creatures?!" She keeps observing the erratic movements of her enemies.

Good question! … how about… you try attacking them?

She growled.

"If I try passing near them… I might get hit myself and be sent back to the start." Her head shook. "Bah… I would rather fight than receiving defeat like a weakling!"

Sure of herself, Mirii dash-started instantly. The fiends were still marching slowly, watching the Squid pointing her head at them.

POOF!

One of them blasted into disintegrating puffs of smoke, as she passed through it without any visible problem. She gradually stopped, before launching herself once more towards her second target.

POOF!

"Uff! Uff!" She slowed down, looking down. "One more…"

Pulling herself around, she aimed carefully at the last monster remaining. Suddenly, plenty of clouds surrounded the creature… as they landed on the top of it. Its height and width began expanding at ludicrous speed… as Mirii was quickly covered by its shadow.

The eyes were still as large as before… but now, the monster was completely covering the passage! It was advancing too. Mirii backed away, turning her irises around and seeing nothing but faraway green boards, blocks and sparkles.

Go for it! Don't let it eat you!

I-I can't watch! Bbrrrrr!

Mirii frowned even more… as she shouted a battle cry and rushed without looking ahead. She drilled right through the monster, popping out from the other side. She coughed, as dust was resting on her head.

"Th-there is something wrong with this ink!" Only her right eye shut, while the other one was just semi-closed. "It feels… ugh! As if I'm diving inside a pool of dust!"

The monster was slowly turning in her direction…

How can you have a pool of dust? Wouldn't that be empty?

Penny, it's a figurative thing! Besides, WATCH OUT! He's going after you!

"Curses!" A ricochet sound left behind her.

The dim light revealed a group of sparkles moving back and forth, each on a horizontal line that was stretching towards the road's edges. She stood still, almost sliding on the nearest sparkle. Her irises were attempting to follow their rapid movements… as she let out another cough.

He's getting closer!

"Stop talking!" She snorted. "I'm aware of that!"

Without letting her mind elaborate more on the matter, Mirii went past the first line and stopping behind the second, right when the first sparkle passed behind her. She dashed once more, passing both the sparkle and the second line.

A sparkling particle landed on her back, as she yelped and jumped past the third sparkle. The monster was going above the first sparkle, as it was about to reach the second… Mirii turned behind and gasped at the top of her lungs. She flipped herself, while moving-

ZAP!

"Yeouch!" Her eyes squeezed, as she rolled on the floor.

OH NO!

Darn it!

She kept yelling faintly, jerkily getting herself up… and twitching widely, once moving away from the floor.

"Ack!" She was now proceeding slowly, as the Squid was lowering down in short moments before returning upwards. "I-I feel hurt…! M-my tentacles are hurting like mad…!"

It can't be! You are inside a game!

What can we do about this, Kyle?!

"Ah… aaaahh…" She gritted her teeth while pushing herself with all her strength.

You still don't know?! We can't do nothing about this! Believe me on this: I would do anything at this point to just strap away this dangerous machine from her eyes! It's making me mad so much, too!

Blocks were raising and lowering on the floor, at a moderate speed. Mirii left a loud groan.

"Wh-why this medicine is not healing me, anymore…?! Wh-why I'm feeling this-ACK!" She shook herself, while expanding her eyes. "Could it be… th-this machine is hurting me, somehow?!"
