Leonard brought home a pregnancy test and it was positive. This was confirmed medically the next day, Penny had 7 months to go. As much as she hated her job as head of department Penny was determined to see it through to the end if she could, she had 6 months left. She was back at work at Caltech the next day and passed on the news to her colleagues. She had a meeting with Gablehauser and the senior Physics Professors.
"Dear Professors, you have all heard my news, I will be having a baby in 7 months time. I intend to serve out my time as head of department if I can but I am not working until 9pm six days a week from now on. I am going home at 5pm every single day, if this means we don't get all the meetings finished then we will have to just work with that. I have noticed as head of department how long some of these meetings can drag on for. Let's see if we can get these meetings finished more quickly. This will be a good habit to get into, I am sure that whoever succeeds me as head of department would appreciate this.
We need to start thinking about my successor, I would like to ask Professor Kripke to have a word with any suitable candidates, as my predecessor he should hopefully still remember what is required to do this crazy job. Thank you ladies and gentlemen, any questions?..."

Two weeks later when they went to airport to pickup Amy and Sheldon on their honeymoon return Penny's life had changed totally.
Penny and Leonard hugged their friends when they met in the arrivals hall.
Leonard "Welcome home you two, how was England?"
Sheldon "Fantastic, I wanted to stay in Cambridge but Amy made me come home!"
Amy "So how have things been at home, anything exciting happen in our absence."
Penny "Not much, apart from the fact I'm pregnant!" which resulted in a group hug.
Leonard drove them home as Penny told her friends the story
Amy "How long before the baby is due?"
Penny "Six and a half months."
Sheldon "How will this affect you as head of department?"
Penny "My 2 years will be finished before my due date, I am going to stick it out for as long as possible."
Sheldon "Will you need any help with your head of department duties."
Penny "Yes I will but not from you Sheldon, it is very kind of you to ask but you are the last person in the Physics department who should get involved in administration."
Amy "Aunt Amy and Uncle Sheldon will be available across the hall for babysitting."

Penny carried on as head of department, she surprised herself and her colleagues by getting through the admin work by 5pm every day. Professor Winkle offered to take Penny's PhD students under her wing for the next year until Penny returned from maternity leave. After Kripke had discussed Penny's successor with some of the likely candidates they decided to offer the post to Professor Malik, who sat in on some of Penny's meetings so he would be ready to take over if Penny's baby arrived early.
Amy took Penny to her pre-natal classes, Leonard started to get Amy's old bedroom ready as a nursery. Penny got bigger and bigger.
