In spite of everything Professor Penny Walsh made it to the last day of her two year term as head of the Caltech Physics department. She gave a farewell talk to the members of the Physics department. Also in the audience were her husband Leonard, her mother Professor Susan Schwartz of the University of Nebraska and Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler of the Caltech neuroscience department. Amy was sat with her husband Sheldon.
Penny slowly walked up to the auditorium to give her farewell address. By now Penny was so close to the birth of her child she was almost spherical.
"Hello my friends, I never thought I would make it but I have done it, I have competed my two years of head of department. Thank you to everyone who has supported me, especially over the last six months. Special thanks to Professor Winkle for helping to look after my PhD students in recent months. I look forward to coming back to visit in the near future with my new baby. Now, can you all welcome Professor Sam Malik, your new head of department."
The whole auditorium got to their feet to give Penny a standing ovation, which lasted a couple of minutes. When the applause finally died down Professor Malik went to the front of the auditorium and gave Penny a hug.
Malik then started to speak "Thank you Professor Walsh, you will be a hard act to follow."
Penny then said "Good luck Professor, OK Leonard let's go home."

Twenty minutes later Penny had managed to get into Leonard's car with her mother.
"OK Leonard, take us home."
Fifteen minutes later they were almost at Los Robles when Penny suddenly said
"Change of plan Leonard, to the hospital NOW!"
Eight hours later Penny gave birth to Susan Amy Hofstadter.
