Chapter 5

As the temperature kept rising in Toronto, sun beating down through the windscreen of the car; Andy sat staring at the building in front of her. It had been months since she was last in 15th Division and the last time was with her friends, including Traci. She didn't think it would be so hard to actually get out the car and walk into the building, but now she was here; her legs felt one hundred times heavier.

Everyone was coming and going, getting on with life and making sure the streets were safe. It had only been a few days since the funeral, everyone seemed to look fine but she knew deep down that the loss of losing one of their own would never, truly leave, even with them wearing brave faces. Letting out a massive a sigh, she grabbed her coffee and finally pulled herself out the car. Slipping on her sunglasses to hide her tired eyes, she slowly made her way into 15th Division, a division she really did love.

She felt relief wash over her as no-one seemed to bat an eyelid as she made her way towards Traci's desk. Looking around she noticed nothing had changed, everything was still the same. She recognized her friends and also newer faces. She felt a small smile reach her lips as she spotted Chris and Dov obviously having a bromance disagreement about something. Just as she reached the bottom of the stairs she heard someone call out her name:

"Andy McNally" came the voice of Frank Best, one of her Dad's long time friends and staff sergeant of 15th:

"Hi Frank, it's good to see you" she replied as she quickly gave him a hug before stepping back.

"How have you been? How's your Dad? And of course I need to ask when are you coming back home?" Frank let off question after question but Andy new the double meaning behind his last one. She couldn't help but laugh at him though, always straight to the point with everything;

"With everything that's happened I'm doing good, my Dad is doing well too. And to answer your last question as soon as this UC is done I'll be back" she said with a smile on her face, probably the first real one since she heard about Traci. All Frank could do was quickly nod his reply before his desk phone starting ringing, He gave Andy's shoulder a quick squeeze with a mumbled "we'll catch up later" before rushing off to his office. Andy watched him rush away, wondering how he had been over the months. She knew there would be plenty of time for a catch up though. She was here to start clearing out her friend's desk. Just the thought of that made her sick to her stomach.

A few hours had passed since Sam noticed Andy walk into the station, they hadn't spoken since the night Sam dropped her and Leo off at her Dad's apartment. He was trying to keep busy and focus on his work but he always found himself letting his eyes wonder in her direction. He was never like this with any woman he had ever met before so he couldn't understand what was happening but there was just something about her. Once again he was lost in the sight of the brown haired, bambi eyed woman sitting at her friend's desk that he never heard his own friend approach him;

"I never thought I'd see the day when Sam Swarek would be drooling over a woman" Oliver laughed as he sat in a spare chair, a coffee in hand.

"Shut up and I'm not drooling" Sam stated, giving the best glare he could. He would never admit that he probably was drooling. Oliver just smirked, there was no way his friend would foul him;

"You know her Dad, Tommy McNally" Oliver stated also watching as Sam's face changed expression knowing who he was talking about;

"That's McNally's daughter, never thought she would follow in her Dad's footsteps with how Tommy used to talk about her" Sam said, eyes swirling back to Andy who was now walking round Traci's desk;

"Yeah well you just never know how life will play out. Anyway I'll let you get back to your drooling as patrol is calling" and before Sam could say anything else, Oliver walked away whistling, obviously pleased he got the final say. As Sam watched his best friend walk out of the station, with thoughts of Andy spinning in his head he never knew that Andy herself had been struggling to keep her eyes off him.

Making her way towards the coffee machine, Andy felt as though she was on auto pilot. Her heart was breaking even more with looking through Traci's personal stuff at her desk, she had also been asked to look through case files to see if anyone could close up ones she had been working on. Her mind had been working overtime with everything that had happened but from the minute she walked through the doors of 15th her eyes found Sam and she just couldn't pull them away. She had no idea what was wrong with her, she should be grieving instead of lusting over a man she hardly knew and probably wouldn't be interested in her anyway. But there was just something about it, she had even wanted to text him a few times after he dropped her off at her Dad's but decided against it in the end. Frustrated with herself she had to concentre on what she came here to do & then take Leo for pizza later like she promised. Anything else that was happening around her would have to wait. Lifting her coffee and making her way back to the stairs, she spotted Boyd walking straight towards her and he didn't seem to happy;

"McNally! Why the hell have you not been answering your phone" Boyd's booming voice caught the attention of a few officers around them but none where really interested apart from Sam. Sam was clearly intrigued as to why Boyd from the Guns and Gang Unit would be interested in Andy. Andy however just rolled her eyes;

"Well hello to you too Boyd" she said in a sarcastic tone. She heard the smirk from someone behind her but never looked to see who it was;

"Very funny. Look when are you going to get back out there. The Mason brother's will be asking questions soon" Boyd said, keeping his voice as low as he could. But not low enough for someone;

"God sake Boyd" Andy moaned as she walked passed him, heading to the stairs but Boyd following right behind her "You said you had cleared me for two weeks, I'm supposed to be with a so called ill boyfriend. So to answer your question I'll finish up the UC in two weeks" and with that Andy stormed off heading for the main door for some fresh air, refusing to be around Boyd any longer.

By this point Sam was standing next to the filling cabinet with papers in his hands but also pretending not to listen in on what Andy was saying. It all started to fall into place though after she stormed off. Andy McNally was an undercover detective working with Boyd.

Sitting in the fresh air was actually peaceful and refreshing, letting the conversation she had just had wash over her. She couldn't think about her UC job at this very moment. She knew she'd have to go back and soon but not now, not yet. There was still a few things to do here with regards to Traci and Leo as well as finding herself a new apartment. Car horns beeping and the sounds of cars coming and going was all Andy could hear until a voice spoke, a voice she thought she'd never have to hear again;

"So it's true, the job stealer McNally is back" came the evil voice. Andy didn't even have to look round to know who was talking. It was none other than Marlo Cruz.

So there you have the update! Sorry again it took a while, but looks like I'll be posting a lot quick now.

Don't worry there is going to be Sam/Andy time in the next chapter and as the story moves on there is a twist coming! Enjoy.
