"We fell into the darn mystery zone, big boy!" Greta gave a slap on Bars' shoulder, as she turned behind. "How about we turn away and super-jump?"
"But girl… don't ya wanna check this stuff out?!" The boy thrusted his tentacles over the triangle. "Like, we might find something related to our friends!"
"We might find trouble and despair, you mean!" She kept shaking his shoulder back and forth. "With those legs, we couldn't even chase a darn sea-turtle who's sleeping under a tree!"
Her eyes went wide.
"Actually… wh-what if we have a time limit or something?!" She twisted him behind and pulled him closer to her face. "We don't even know what the shell is going on with this form!"
"Chill out, girl! Like…" He slowly grins. "… what if we return to our rad selves after a while?"
"Your optimism is sure as big as your ego, sometimes…" She frowned. "We gotta get out of this dump, with our friends on our sides, before some more surprises will hit our legs!"
Her eyes casually caught the office chair moving… she gasped, jumping on the right side and pointing her Splattershot over the desk. The chair slid near the wall, as two shiny white rectangles appeared in the darkness, below the desk.
"… so terrible…"
"GET OFF THAT DESK AND RAISE YOUR ARMS!" Greta frowned even more, as her hands were shaking. "NO MATTER THE INK COLOR, YOU ARE GONNA BE BEGGING FOR A START PAD!"
"Really?" Bars turned his head over the girl.
Greta snorted…
"I knew it all along…" A male voice was coming from below the desk.
"Cryptic talk has zero effect on us!" She grasped her weapon tightly, almost pressing the trigger. "Try singing in our faces, instead of writing a poem inside your shadow!"
"I should had left the place… I had plenty of years, before it was too late…"
Slowly, the white rectangles were moving out of the desk… revealing an Inkling man wearing rectangle glasses and a white coat. He stands up on his feet, as he kept looking at the two Inklings.
"… now I know too much…" His mouth downturned. "Too much to just leave carelessly…"
"Dude, like… who cares if you know too much?" Bars shrugged. "What would Squids do to you anyway?"
"… you don't understand…" The man shook his head, as he took some steps on his right. "… no one can…"
"Say that while lying on the floor." Greta pointed her weapon down. "Your walking is vaguer than your words."
"But I don't want you to know…" He stopped, as his face darkened. "… no one should…" Slowly, he turns over the two. "… it's that terrible…"
"Ok, you are officially a movable target!" Her head turned over Bars. "Go splat that orange oddSquid, Roller boy!"
"Should we?" Bars' mouth rose. "He doesn't seem all that big on himself…"
"His face is a mask, but your roller is not!" Her weapon pointed at the man. "Splat him now!"
"Oooook, girl…!" The boy took some steps over the man, as he lifted his Roller. "Dude, you are"
"NO! STOP!" The man's eyes expanded, as he thrusted his arms over Bars. "Your ink is going to cause even more trouble!"
"Determine that, glassy." Greta sighed.
"This room was claimed by a Squid whose powers go farther than you can imagine!" His hands went on the top of his head, as sweat formed on his face. "If you cover any part of this room with your blue ink, he might come in here and throw us in the oblivion!"
"But dude… we are totally invincible!" Bars grins. "While you are not…"
"Hold that Roller, Barsy." Greta squeezed her eyes a bit, as she pointed her weapon over the man once more. "This guy might act funky, but we can get some sneaky infos about the 'going on' part of this whole situation, if he sees the right side to stay on!"
"Bu-but you are not supposed to know! Neither do I!" He nodded, as he frowned. "That Squid has the ears open… if I speak out, he's going to get us!"
"Then, you would rather see US splatting you…?" Greta chuckled.
"I'm not even armed myself!" The man opened his arms wide.
"Who cares dude…" Bars shook his head. "Like, we can't trust you with all those funkiness and thingamajigs you spout of your month…"
"A-ack…!" The man took some steps backwards, before laying his hands on the wall. "S-splat me if you dare! I-I know a Start Pad very close to"
"Our ink will keep you on the floor, genius!" The top of Greta's eyes 'smiled', as she chuckled some more. "Wanna see yourself mel-"
"D-darn it, NO!" The man's head shook rapidly. "I-I… I will talk! Yes, I will!" He sighed loudly. "Please, don't splat me…!"
"… the referee screamed GO." Her tentacle's tip twisted, as the palm pointed at the man. "Care to begin?"
"Th-there were some odd events happening, recently… noises coming out of nowhere, items located in different locations than declared, computers who kept on shutting without any inputs or technical problems whatsoever!" The man's arms folded. "We were wondering during those events… but none of us ever decided to investigate on the matter."
"We are more than glad to do the job." Greta's weapon went near her right side. "What about this room?"
"You already know it well… the only information missing is from the Squid himself!" He shivered. "H-he is… he uses some sort of magic that lets him manipulate the items all around!"
"Which means… he's the culprit?" Bars chuckled a bit.
"In a nutshell, yes." The man nodded, walking closer to-
"Keep that distance and the whole talking, brainy." Greta immediately pointed her weapon with both her hands.
"I-I have said everything! I-I swear!" The man rose his arms over the ceiling. "What else would you like to know?!"
"Like, how about telling us where the protein food is…" Bars grinned widely.
"Even better than that, big boy!" Greta growled. "This guy thinks that we are noobs at logic…"
"Wh-what you mean?!" Sweat covered the man's face.
"Do you think that this few information is enough for our knowledge thirst?" Greta's eyes squeezed a bit. "Think again, smarty!"
"… I-I said you know everything! Everything!" His hands covered his face. "Stop it!"
"Go sing about the purpose of this room!" She opened her arms wide. "Go ahead!"
"It's too much-there is NOTHING ELSE!" He gritted his teeth.
"Ha! Caught you stumblin' on your own mouth, hmm?!" She patted Bars' shoulder, pointing her tentacle at the man. "Get ready, Barsy: you have to splat this idiot"
I found them!
Get them!
"Oh ship!" Bars turned behind.
The door tilted all the way, until it slammed on the wall: a group of Squids was standing at the room's entrance, looking carefully at the two Inklings. Greta smiled widely, as her eyelids lowered to the middle and took some steps over the Squids.
"Well, well! What do we have here?" She bended her knees down. "Squids who are waiting to attack those two living punching bags?"
"Ha ha! Like!" Bars lifted his Roller on his shoulder. "The Bubbler is nothing compared to this form!"
…
The orange Squid, in front of the whole group, slid backwards…
"Yo-you are the leader!" The green Squid pushed the orange one. "Hit them!"
"Bu-but… but they aren't scared of us!" The orange Squid shivered, curling on himself.
"Not even a million of smallies can downturn our mouths!" Greta chuckled, as her eyes closed. "Sooo… what are you up to? Slid all around the structure or attack us and wish you chose the first option?"
The Squids began talking towards each other, loudly…
"What a bunch of cowards!" A yellow Squid slid past everyone, standing in front of Greta and frowning. "Who cares if we can't splat them?! We just need to block them here!"
"Noooo! Don't do iiiiiit!" The man kept walking in place, as his face went paler. "Th-that terrible Squid is going to"
The yellow Squid shouted a battle cry, as he dashed after the girl. He bounced, hitting Greta right on her stomach: she fell down, sliding and almost reaching the triangle. Bars swung his Roller, hitting the Squid and splatting him almost immediately: the little Squid flew away from a large, blue ink stain.
"Neat job, big boy!" Greta lifted her posture, smiling at the boy.
"I'm not a coward!" A frowning magenta Squid slid in front of the Squid group. "Those behind me are!"
A loud ruckus emerged from the group: before Bars could even lift his weapon, an army of Squids was already reaching both, hitting them with their jumps as soon as they were within the range. The man watched the Squids attacking Bars and Greta constantly… as he turned over the desk and dash-
SPLAT!
He flew past the ceiling as a small Squid, leaving a green ink stain on the floor. Bars rose from the floor, as he pushed away at least 6 Squids!
"Yaaaa ha ha ha haaaa!" Greta's voice was coming from below a group of differently colored Squids. "Barsy! Haaa ha ha haaaa! Do something! Ha ha ha haaa!"
"Right on, girl!" Bars grabbed a magenta Squid, throwing the rival over the wall.
Candles were standing on the floor with their flames out… chairs were either broken in various pieces or they were just down. Squids were mostly covering the whole floor as they all kept dashing at the boy. Bars slapped the jumping ones and pushed aside the Squids who tried to attack his feet.
"This is not working!" A magenta Squid kept panting, while observing the scene. "We are getting ourselves hurt like nothing!"
Bars pushed some more Squids with his feet, as he eventually reached Greta… he grabbed each Squid, throwing them either against the wall, a chair or even the lone desk!
"Aaaaggh!" A Squid crashed on the office chair.
"Ow, ow!" A female one was squeezing her eyes, while resting against the wall.
"E-enough!" A yellow Squid slid over the room's entrance. "Enough beatings!"
"Same!" Another one went after him.
A loud chat emerged, as the whole group escaped the two Inklings and exited the room. Silence fell in, staying for at least some seconds… Bars grabbed Greta, letting her standing on her feet. She sighed, hugging the boy.
"Not even a storm could bring you down… Barsy." Her eyes closed. "You… you really rocked there!" She blushed.
Bars blushed too, as he hugged her tightly… while a magenta Squid was leaning from behind the opened door, observing the two.
