Jake was having a crappy day. It was his first day back at work since the birth of his daughter, and all he wanted was to go home to his wife and baby girl. Usually he loved his job, but today he could hardly wait to leave.
It was 5 o'clock, and Jake was still hard at work. He had been doing paperwork all day, and was so incredibly bored. He had spent the day showing anyone who would look at them, pictures of his newborn, Abigail.
By the end of the day, even Charles was getting sick of the photos, and that was saying something.
'Jake, I totally get that you'd rather be at home with Abigail right now, but don't you think you should put your phone down and do some work?' Charles finally burst out, after being shown what felt like the fiftieth photo.
To this Jake sighed, mumbling about how Charles was exactly the same as him when he first adopted Nikolaj, turned off his phone, and settled over more paperwork that wasn't going to do itself, in the words of his boss.
After that, he tried his hardest to not get distracted, knowing that if he was bad enough to prompt Charles to reprimand him, he would have to have been incredibly annoying.
He didn't look up when the lift arrived at the fourth floor, signifying that someone was entering into the precinct.
When a few co-workers gasped and fell silent he didn't bat an eye.
It was only when he felt someone tap his right shoulder, did he spin around in his chair and give a surprised smile.
Standing in front of him was Amy and Abbie. And he couldn't be happier to see them.
'Oh my gosh, what are you doing here?' Jake asked as he scooped his family into his arms, clearly elated to see them.
'We thought we'd come and surprise you at work, didn't we Abbs' Amy replied, bouncing Abbie on her hip and smiling knowingly.
As Jake went pick up his daughter, he realised that the entire fourth-floor had been staring at him and Amy. It was then that he remembered that no one her had even met their daughter, not even Charles.
They hadn't even seen Amy since she'd had the baby.
Amy seemed to have noticed the same thing, because they shared a knowing look before she turned around to face the crowd of people watching.
'Hi guys, good to see you all, long time no see.' She announced nonchalantly, smiling slightly. 'This is Abigail, or Abbie for short. I know none of you have met her before.'
For once there was silence in the precinct, as everyone took in the information.
It didn't last long, though. Soon everyone was up out of their seats to interact with the young girl.
Abbie seemed to be loving the attention, much to the amusement of her parents.
'She looks so much like you, Jake.'
'Oh my god, she has so much hair already!'
'Amy, she definitely has your chin.'
The couple were receiving so many observations about their daughter.
With all the commotion going on around them, Jake and Amy didn't notice the another door opening and someone else entering the office.
'What is going on here? Everyone get back to work!'
They knew that voice.
Captain Holt.
He hadn't noticed them yet, they were masked by everyone else around them.
As everyone around them scattered back to their desks, Holt turned to make his way back to his office.
'Hey, Captain, look who-'
'Peralta, I am glad you are back, but I do not want to see another picture of your daughter eating her hair, or sucking her thumb, or anything of the sort. Now get back to work.'
Jake and Amy shared a look before Amy, bouncing Abbie on her hip spoke out.
'But would you like to see her in the flesh, sir?'
He spun round on his heels.
'Santiago?'
Amy handed Abigail to Jake and went to hug her mentor.
'What are you doing here?'
'We wanted to surprise Jake. We knew he didn't really want to come back today. Also I wanted to see everyone, I haven't seen them in ages.'
Her mentor nodded. He moved to make his way back to his dest for the second time, but was stopped by the gaze of the young girl smiling in her father's arms.
As she held his stare, she giggled innocently and clapped her hands together in delight.
Jake smiled. 'She likes you, Captain. Would you like to hold her?'
Captain Holt looked shocked. He clearly hadn't ever held a baby before, and looked a little nervous about doing it for the first time. 'I- okay, yes please.' He stuttered out.
'Alright Abbs, how would you like to say hello to Grandpa Ray?' Jake asked his daughter, smiling gently.
Holt sat down and Jake shifted into a position to hand his daughter over. He passed her over to his boss. who sat the child on his lap.
Abbie giggled again, and squeeze Holt's hands that she was clinging onto.
To Jake and Amy, this was a sight to behold. Their little girl and their mentor and father figure bonding, already clearly very close.
And although the others in the precinct probably couldn't tell, Captain Holt looked absolutely elated with Abigail.
A/N hey! Sorry this took so long to get out, I kept putting it off. I hope people liked this, I know it's quite short. How are people doing in lockdown? I know it can be difficult for some situations. Stay inside xx
