Hun's sight was literally glued onto Mirii, whose eyes were staring at the road. A seat belt was wrapped on both Inklings, as hot air was coming from the dashboard. His hands went each on one of his legs.
"Now that we are moving away from the studios… allow me to explain more about the medical examination you must attend today." Mirii was still staring at the road. "I'm sure that the drawer explained the very basic facts about it…"
"They want to check me…?" His head tilted to his right side.
"They want to run a normal check on you, yes." She nodded. "It never hurts to have a medical examination every once in a while."
"I see!" Hun smiled.
"In fact, I should do some as well…" Mirii turned the steering wheel to the left while making sure that the wheels wouldn't touch the left, white line in the middle of the road. "… although, there is another way to do it."
"Really?" He opened his mouth a bit.
Mirii glanced a sea-rabbit jumping out of the tall grass on the right side, before focusing back on the road.
"My smartphone has an application that allows you to send medical data to your trusted doctor and receive your results."
Her hands were carefully tilting the steering wheel to the right, as the car wheels were perfectly following the white line on the road's right side.
"I do not trust this application, though… I heard that several Squids were capable of cracking it plenty of times." She snorted. "No matter how much the developers updated it… those unnamed Squids still manage to crack it!"
She sighed.
"I'm hearing that a different team of developers is working on their own medical application known as 'Safe Check'. I'm still waiting for more news regarding such project."
"Ok!" Hun nodded, as he smiled and bended slightly towards Mirii. "Although, I don't know exactly what an application is…"
"Look at one as if it was a tool." Mirii smiled. "Judging from your prodigious mind, you will surely"
"What is a tool, exactly…?" He grinned a bit, raising his eyebrows at her.
…
Hun chuckled.
"I was joking!" He simply smiled now, closing his eyes.
Mirii giggled, as she shook her head.
"Oh, Hunley… you grew so much, since the first time we met…" She blushed. "I'm so proud of you…"
"Will this medical examination last all day?" He brought his hands behind his neck, as he looked at the road on the horizon.
"As I said earlier, this is a normal check. Normal checks usually last for a half hour… one hour max." Her head rose. "In either case, I changed today's schedule: you only have a recording session for another episode of 'From rags to riches'."
"But I want to do more than that!" Hun bended over the girl, pressing his hands on his legs. "Allow me to"
"Hunley." She slightly lowered her eyebrows, keeping her head tilted upwards. "This medical examination might determine that you need to take some free time. In such case, you cannot attend appointments, briefings or even physical trainings at the gym."
"And what about the recording session I have to do later?" He frowned a bit.
"Unfortunately, I couldn't took it off…" She hit the steering wheel with her fist, as she showed her gritted teeth. "You are needed for the episode."
Hun sealed his mouth, staring back at the girl and raising his eyebrows.
"… in any case, I consulted the Shrine about the possibility of letting you have a hot bath after the medical examination." She hid her teeth. "I received confirmation, thus we will reach the Shrine as soon as we are done with this task."
"Uhm…" Hun put his head on the backrest. "… what could this check possibly do to me, anyway? Why would it force me to take some free time?"
"I'm saying possibilities, Hunley. We can't ignore the fact that the doctor might find something important to take care of in the immediate… the check might even last longer than expected." Her eyes were seeing a collection of tall buildings in the distance, while the car was rushing over an incoming downhill. "We must be properly prepared, Hunley. We cannot assume anything."
"… I see your point…" His irises went each to their respective eye's right corner, observing the tall grass scrolling in the opposite direction. "Sometimes Mirii worries a bit too much… but I can't blame her for that."
He blushed.
"She is doing all this for me, after all…!"
The car turned to the right corner, entering through an opened gate. The vehicle rushed for half a mile, as Mirii looked at some cars parked in between the empty rectangles drawn on the asphalt and located on the right side of the road. On the left, a brick wall was extending for more than a mile, stretching around a giant complex of buildings.
Her foot was pressing the stop pedal, as the car's wheels were gradually slowing down their spins. She grasped the top of the gear, changing it from 3 to 2… then to 1. Her hands twisted the steering wheel, as the car pointed over the empty rectangle in between a smaller, red car and a larger, black one.
Hun kept looking left and right, observing the two cars mostly.
"Yo-you are about to hit the left one!" His hands twitched. "Slow down more!"
"Hunley, refrain your worries." Her head rose. "Watch how perfection can easily park this car."
"Bu-but wait!" His eyes were glued on the smaller car, as he brought his hands on the steering wheel. "Turn more to the right!"
Mirii growled, as her foot pressed the stop pedal fully, while the left one pressed the clutch pedal.
"Take off your hands from mine!" She frowned and blushed at the same time.
"S-sorry!" He retreated his hands over the right side of his shoulders. "I-I thought I could"
"I told you to let perfection show how it can successfully park the car." She finally turned her head to her right, looking at the boy's eyes. "Please, trust my driving skills…"
"… alright, Mirii." Hun folded his arms. "As you wish."
"Thank you." The girl smiled.
Her right foot transferred onto the accelerator pedal, as the left foot let the pedal raise upwards at moderate speed. Once the hovering foot pressed the accelerator, the car resumed its movement and passed the smaller car just by a millimeter!
The 4 wheels managed to enter all inside the rectangle area, stopping right after.
"See?" Mirii turned the ignition key, pulling it off and smiling. "Pure perfection."
"Y-yes…!" Sweat appeared on his forehead, as he sighed deeply and silently.
The girl opened the car door, exiting and stepping on the asphalt. Hun pushed his car door rapidly, going out of the vehicle at roughly the same speed.
"There is no need to rush." Mirii pushed the door back, walking over the sidewalk standing in front of her car. "We still have plenty of time."
"Ah…" Hun closed the car door, as his head was turned to the left while walking forward. "… how about we start this check soon?"
Mirii pushed a button on the car remote, as a clicking sound came from the vehicle. She stored the key and took the opportunity to caress her long tentacle.
"We can't: we must wait your turn, first." She stepped on the sidewalk. "Of course, it would have been advantageous to make this medical examination start like that."
Hun simply nodded, watching the girl walking to the right and passing him. To their left side, one of the buildings' tall wall: some of its windows were slightly tilting forward, while the others were completely shut. Soon after, the girl passed a vase containing a bush, turning left almost instantly: she was now walking in between two lines of vases holding each a bush.
As the boy was following Mirii's steps, he saw a couple of stair steps just ahead. The girl stepped on each stair step, while making sure to keep her posture lifted. Once she climbed the last step, she turned behind.
"Hunley?" Her head rose.
Hun was observing the walls sharing opened and closed windows: he squeezed his eyes, tempted to walk closer to the bottom windows.
"Hunley…" Her hands went on her hips, as impatience was growing on her throat. "… it's true we have to wait your turn, but this doesn't mean we should explore the hospital."
"Do you know where to go?" He opened his mouth, deciding to reach his friend with a quick run.
He climbed the stair steps with ease and speed, stopping right in front of Mirii.
"The hospital is equipped with various signs who can guide us through. We can also talk with the receptionist, who can let us know the area we must reach." The girl returned forward. "Let's go." She resumed her walk.
"Yes!" He smiled, as he walked in the same direction.
Mirii was now reaching a clear multi-door, as her hands stretched over the handles. Hun gave another look behind, seeing the brick wall in the distance.
"… what was that voice…?" He frowned a bit. "I don't see anyone around here…"
"Hunley."
Hun returned forward, looking at Mirii keeping one of the doors open.
"Why do you still look around?" She lowered her eyebrows. "Is there a reason?"
"… no, no reason!" He scratched the back of his head, as he stepped forward without thinking. "Let's go!"
Mirii's eyes squeezed a bit, observing the boy passing her and entering inside the building. Her hand slid off the door, as it tilted automatically all the way back, closing it with a loud noise. Her eyes went on the counter sitting just some feet ahead, with an Inkling woman looking over a monitor and tapping the keyboard with jaw-dropping speed.
The girl walked over the counter, as her step sounds penetrated through the ears of the sitting Inkling: the woman's eyes managed to glance over the boy to her right, as a smile formed right after. She twisted her office chair on the middle, as her hands clasped and stood on the counter table.
"… I just need to know… where that 'utility' room could possibly be…" Mirii reached the counter, staring at the woman in front of her.
