The woman was panting a bit, looking at the green ink who was still proceeding through the asphalt. Occasionally, green ink stains were appearing on the side: the woman shot magenta ink projectiles over the stain ahead, as she stepped on her ink and jumped across the rest.
"… Vira calling the base." Her eyes closed for a moment. "I request an ink color change."
"She seems determined to support me…" Mirii kept sliding inside the green ink. "… excellent."
Vira's left hand went behind her left earpiece.
"I need the green color, because a young girl is claiming that a boy was splatted by the Stingrays, as he just finished a medical examination. She's asking me to save him, basically."
As Vira reopened her eyes, she slightly frowned.
"I'm suspecting that this boy is going on a rampage alone, since he left a green ink trail on his path... as well as green ink stains spread here and there on the road, probably because he splatted some Stingrays himself. I must wear the same ink color as his, so no accidental splattings will occur."
A low-volume voice came from the woman's earpieces.
"… look, I know that I should help the others…" She sighed. "But this girl is very worried about her friend!"
Red spots appeared near each other in between the little waves.
"She is willing to risk her life in order to reach him!" She slightly bended forward. "I can't"
The voice returned in her earpieces.
"I know, I know." Her head shook. "As an Agent, I must make sure that everyone is safe and sound… ah!" The woman stopped, as her eyes expanded and her mouth opened wide.
The waves lowered until they flattened completely. Mirii rose from the ink, returning in her humanoid form. The green ink trail has a big, right turn in the middle of the road: its path proceeded right on the brick wall, ascending it all the way to its top edge.
The female Agent had her head pointed on the ink-covered edge.
"… right now the trail is proceeding on the wall." She looked left and right. "I can't climb it with this ink color"
Her feet stopped, listening to the voice in her earpieces.
"… I understand." She nodded.
The voice kept talking for a brief while…
"Alright. Thank you for the service." She smiled.
"Her expression doesn't clarify the results…" Mirii's head rose, as she stepped closer to the woman. "If the request was related to a simple ink color change…" Her irises landed on the woman's tentacles. "… I should witness the event in the instant."
A green color was descending through Vira's tentacles, completely covering the magenta color.
"Well!" Vira giggled, while closing her eyes and resting her right wrist on her right hip. "I'm truly suited up for the rescue mission!"
"Wonderful." Mirii smiled. "Now we"
"No, you cannot come with me."
The girl's mouth opened wide. Vira's mouth downturned, as her eyes reopened.
"They granted me permission for saving your friend… but at the condition of carrying you out of this area."
"I refuse!" Mirii frowned. "Hunley needs me more than anything else!"
"You are not an Agent, unfortunately…" The woman sighed, raising her eyebrows. "… otherwise, I would had"
"I'm an Agent, actually." The girl folded her arms.
Vira's eyes expanded.
"N-no way!" Her jaw dropped. "Yo-you"
"Hunley is also an Agent." Mirii nodded. "We have been assigned to different roles than the classical ones, though…" Her eyes closed. "But effectively, we can still participate in various missions"
"Why you haven't told me so?!" Vira's irises moved to her left side. "Vira calling the base! I must report something important!"
Her left hand went behind her left earpiece.
"… yes, I just discovered something important! The two Squids I mentioned earlier… they are both Agents!"
The woman stared back at Mirii.
"What's your name?"
"Mirii." Mirii's head rose. "Mirii Kelpshell."
"Her name is Mi-WHAT?!" Vira jumped, stepping backwards. "I know you!"
The previous voice was ringing in her earpieces.
"… the name of the other Agent?" The woman's mouth flattened.
"Hun Squidson." Mirii's eyes closed. "However, I usually call him 'Hunley'…"
"Hun… …" Vira's left hand pushed her left earpiece. "… can you show me your ID card?"
Mirii snorted, as she immediately brought her hand all over her clothes. She took off her wallet, pulling off a plastic card with her other hand, thrusting it over Vira.
"Thanks!" The woman smiled, picking it up and staring at it. "… I scan it with my weapon?"
She brought it over the ID card, pointing it right on a series of little, vertical lines.
Ping!
"I heard it!" Vira smiled. "She's indeed Mirii Kelpshell!"
The woman brought the card back to her owner, as the girl took it rapidly.
"Hmpf!" She puts her ID card inside her wallet. "I urge you to conclude this check." She stored her wallet away.
"… uh-huh…" The woman nodded, as her eyes closed. "… uh-huh… … ok! Roger!" She reopened her eyes, walking closer to Mirii. "Thank you for the service!"
Mirii folded her arms back.
"Looks like we are on the same team." Vira's hand landed on Mirii's right shoulder. "The HQ told me that they cannot provide you any Protective Suit… but for the mission role they gave you, I don't think you need one."
"… what are you implying…?" Mirii's eyes squeezed a bit.
Vira sunk her left hand over her jacket's left pocket… extracting a pair of small headphones connected with a Squid-shaped device.
"Here." She brought the device in front of the girl's head. "A Supportive Agent needs her operating system."
"S-Supportive Agent?!" Mirii's eyes grew.
"Yes!" She nodded, closing her eyes for a moment. "The HQ didn't told you about the news related to this?"
"… negative…" The girl shook her head.
Vira shrugged.
"It has been decided that each Agent must bring a 'Supportive Agent portable set', in case no Supportive Agent in the base is available at the moment… it's especially useful when a large team of Agents is divided into littler ones during a mission. Temporary Supportive Agents are usually armed to their teeth… but as I said, you don't really need it: just stay out of trouble, ok?"
"Yes…" Mirii's hands grabbed each one earpiece, putting them on her ears. "… I understand."
Her left hand grabbed the device.
"You know, I'm glad that we are on the same team…" Vira's left thumb rose, as her right eye closed. "Working together with the famous Mirii will surely make things easier!"
"Famous?!" Mirii's irises shrunk.
"Why the surprise? Everyone usually talks about you!" Vira nodded. "Especially that intelligence of yours… probably one of the smartest, young girls we have in our HQ!"
"Well…" Mirii's head rose. "… of course I would be identified as famous." Her eyebrows lowered slightly. "I'm a perfectionist among the ranks of the Agents…"
"Yep!" Vira chuckled. "You fit so nicely in the role of the 'brainy'."
"… brainy…?" Mirii's eyes squeezed a bit.
"Supportive Agents aren't there to just 'support'… they are kind of strategists!" The woman bended forward. "Considering how your logic was impeccable, earlier on… you will truly bring out the best of the 'brawny'!" She grinned a bit. "Aka… me!"
Mirii stared back at her ally…
"… being the 'brainy' of my team…" She smiled. "… a noble role for a sophisticated Squid like me."
