Previously on Pokemon:
"Take down the name of Ash Ketchum," Giovanni answered.
"Oh my, now this is certainly a twist. Did you even know?" the voice said and Giovanni knew that he was surprised too.
"No, I was unaware of it. It seems that even he had some secrets of his own," Giovanni admitted.
"Do you want him dead when we find him? Or just…injured?" the voice asked cruelly.
"Just injure. He may prove to have uses," Giovanni answered.
"Very well. You already have one of us helping your plans so be aware that having another one of us to spy on this boy is a dangerous game," the voice warned.
"I don't care. If this boy proves to be as annoying as his father then both of our ambitions will be crushed," Giovanni said, a bit more harshly.
"I see your point. The next one I send to you will be more…vicious…how does that sound?" the voice asked.
"I like your thinking. Get it done. You can wait a few months before sending the spy in," Giovanni said as he put the phone down. He smiled sinisterly as he petted his Persian. His plans were going smoothly and as annoying as the helper was, she was very good at her job. He could only wonder what one they would send next but he was sure that the person would be even better than the last.
Present:
It was bright and sunny the next morning and the small group were travelling through Viridian forest once more. Ash was starting to get a slight headache as Misty was screaming every few seconds as there were a lot of Bug Pokemon in the area. Loki was flying by Ash's shoulder while Pikachu sat on his shoulder and to be honest, they were getting slightly irritated by the screaming.
"Come Ash, you know I don't like them," Misty said as she climbed down from a tree where she was hiding.
"I don't care about that, just stop screaming," Ash said as nicely as he could.
"See they follow me!" Misty said as she pointed to one that was crawling towards them. It was a small worm Pokemon that had a small horn on its head.
"That's a new one!" Loki commented as Ash looked at it with a smile.
"A Weedle I think," Ash said and Pikachu nodded to confirm this.
"Please tell me that you're not catching that one too? You already have Metapod," Misty practically begged him.
"It never hurts to have more than one kind of Pokemon. You're a Water trainer, so you understand where I'm coming from," Ash said as he pulled out a spare Pokeball while Misty tried to come up with a response to the clever comment.
"Let's go for it!" Pikachu said as he got down from Ash's shoulder as he got ready to fight. As Ash was about to call out a command, his eyes perked slightly as a voice then entered the area.
"Would you happen to be trainers from Pallet town?" the voice asked.
"I'm not, he is!" Misty said nervously.
"Traitor," Loki commented as he stuck his tongue out at Misty.
"Who's asking?" Ash asked cautiously.
Finally, a figure jumped out of the tree and at the same time, a red magic seal appeared and a large samurai sword formed into his hands. Ash managed to somersault back as the sword hit the floor where he was standing. Loki and Pikachu managed to dive out of the way and landed on Misty. Unintentionally, Ash's eyes flashed purple and his teeth that had four small dragon fangs flashed dangerously. This caught the guy off guard as he took a step back but he regained his composure.
"Do not fear, I am not a Pokemon thief," the guy said but didn't drop his sword.
"What's with the sword?" Misty and Loki yelled.
"Re-Quipping magic? Interesting," Ash said and the guy looked quite pleased at that comment but put a frown on his face.
"What a clown," Pikachu said as he looked at the boy's failed attempt at an armour that was clearly plastic.
"I am Samurai, a fearless warrior! I have been searching the forest for you!" Samurai said.
"Oh yeah? What for?" Ash asked as his guard lowered slightly. Samurai's sword then vanished and he pulled a pokeball from his pocket.
"A Pokemon battle!" Samurai declared. Ash was tempted not to battle this guy but when he saw that the Weedle he wanted to capture was gone, he changed his mind as a small glare came to his face.
"Fine by me," Ash said as he pulled out a pokeball.
"Pinsir! I choose you!" Samurai said as he threw the pokeball. A brown beetle Pokemon appeared and it had two legs and two pincers on its forehead. It was a little scary to look at but to Misty, it was terrifying. She stood up to watch anyway and Pikachu and Loki sat down to watch.
"Pidgeotto, I choose you!" Ash said as he threw the pokeball.
"Pinsir, use Tackle!" Samurai ordered. Pinsir obeyed and charged straight at Pidgeotto with surprising speed but Ash was quick too.
"Pidgeotto dodge!" Ash responded. Pidgeotto then flew up and out of Pinsir's reach but Ash was unaware of it's secret weapon.
"Pinsir, grab that bird!" Samurai said and Pinsir used its pincers on its head to grab Pidgeotto where it got trapped and started to struggle.
"That was a sneaky move!" Loki said.
"It was clever," Misty admitted.
"Ha! Admit defeat!" Samurai said but Ash kept his cool. It was alright. All secret weapons had a weakness, no matter how good it was. Then it clicked in his head as he saw that the sharp small horns inside the pincers was the cause of the trapping of Pidgeotto as well as his pain.
"Try and spread your wings by using Steel Wing," Ash called. Pidgeotto heard his master's call and was confused slightly but trusted him. He knew that there was a purpose behind his motives. His wings flashed brightly as he started to spread his wings inside the grasp.
"That won't…" Samurai said confidently but was then shocked as the small horns in the pincers were cracking which caused Pinsir to release its grip on the bird.
"Alright, now circle around and use Gust!" Ash said with a smirk.
"Pi!" Pidgeotto called as he flew up into the sky and dove back down while flapping his wings with great power. Pisir tried to hold its ground but was forced up into the air and was thrown about by the powerful wind and was hurled back down into the ground.
"Pinsir!" Samurai yelled in shock but the defeated Pokemon was on the ground with swirls in its eyes.
"Yay! We won!" Loki cheered.
"What do you mean we? You didn't do anything," Misty pointed out.
"I gave support!" Loki protested.
"Pinsir, return!" Samurai said as he held out a pokeball.
"Do you want another battle?" Ash asked, almost eagerly.
"I would but I'm more interested in battling you hand to hand. I saw that glare earlier. Your eyes went purple which is weird because two other trainers said you didn't have magic," Samurai said thoughtfully.
"Says who?" Ash asked with a bit of surprise.
"I battled two other trainers from Pallet earlier. One had Solid Script and the other had Plant Magic," Samurai answered.
"Wow, so Gary and Leaf came through here too?" Ash asked.
"Yeah, they had strong Pokemon and magic," Samurai admitted.
"Who are Gary and Leaf?" Misty asked.
"Ash's friends from home," Loki told her.
"So do you have magic?" Samurai asked impatiently.
"I do but I never told them about it. It's not your everyday magic," Ash said as he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
"Let's see about that," Samurai said as he re-quipped with his samurai sword again and Ash cracked his knuckles eagerly. He was more confident about using his magic now. He quickly opened Metapod's pokeball so he could watch along with Pidgeotto, who was beaming with pride after his victory.
"You're on!" Ash challenged as Samurai charged towards him with the sharp sword. Ash managed to a backflip away from the sword and every time Samurai took a swing at him, he always managed to somersault out of the way quite quickly.
"Wow, he's faster than me," Pidgeotto said with wide eyes.
"I wish I could be that strong," Metapod said in wonder.
"You will be," Pikachu said with a smile.
"Come on, punch his lights out!" Loki cheered.
"I feel sorry for Samurai right now," Misty said with a laugh.
"Take this!" Samurai said as he took an extra powerful lung at Ash but the raven haired teen only jumped up quite high and then performed his first attack.
"Ghost Dragon: Spirit Claw!" Ash yelled as a purple like claw formed around his hand and he took a powerful swing at Samurai, who was caught off guard by this. He was forced back and before he could even move, Ash had landed on the ground and took a running charge at Samurai with the same attack. This time, it was a direct perfect hit as Samurai was flung back and made contact with a tree trunk, where he collapsed with swirls in his eyes.
"You over did it!" Loki yelled as the claw on Ash's hand vanished and he looked a little guilty.
"Sorry! I don't really know how to hold back," Ash admitted.
"That's fine," Samurai said as he shook his head and rubbed his chest which was surely going to get a bruise.
"If you don't mind me asking, why didn't you use another sword?" Ash asked as Samurai approached him.
"Well…I only have this sword. It's hard to get another sword," Samurai said with disappointment in his voice. He was surprised as Ash clapped him on the shoulder.
"Don't worry about it! You'll get stronger!" Ash said cheerfully.
"Aye!" Loki cheered.
"I hope so but forget about me. You're a Dragon Slayer! That's amazing!" Samurai said with stars in his eyes.
"I was amazed too," Misty said as she came over with Loki and the Pokemon. They all looked amazed at his magic, minus Pikachu and Loki, who had already seen it. Pidgeotto was truly thrilled and Metapod looked at him in admiration.
"I don't know what Gary was on about. You're not a weak, scrawny loser," Samurai said and a tick mark appeared on Ash's head as he raised a clenched fist.
"That jerk! Always thinking that he's better!" Ash practically hissed. His teeth were on show again and his eyes flashed which made Loki and the others laugh nervously.
"I take it he doesn't like Gary?" Misty asked.
"Gary is the son of Blue Oak, and the grandson of Professor Oak. He has a big ego," Loki explained.
"Wow, Blue? He's a big deal! Say, wasn't he friends with…?" Samurai started but was interrupted as Ash gave him and Misty a hard shove out of the way. They both recoiled in shock but seconds later, a sticky web was resting in the place where they had been standing.
"What was that?" Misty said in a panic.
"Web?!" Loki asked as he reached out a paw to touch it.
"Don't touch it!" Pikachu scolded as he smacked the paw away.
"That'll stick to you like glue!" Pidgeotto added.
"Where'd that come from?" Samurai asked as he got up from the ground while Ash helped Misty up.
"It came from above, look," Ash said as he pointed to the tops of the trees in the distance. His ears had picked up the sound of a sharp buzzing sound.
"Oh no!" Misty said as she started to shake. A gigantic swarm of Beedrill appeared overhead and they looked very angry.
"Beedrill! Let's get out of here!" Samurai said in fright as he started to take off, with Misty closely following him.
"Pigeotto return!" Ash said as he recalled the bird. Pikachu and Loki ran up beside him and as he was about to recall Metapod, the swarm was already upon them.
"Ow that's my tail meanie!" Loki yelled as he felt his tail being pulled sharply.
Pikachu proceeded to bat them away with his own tail but he knew he couldn't shock them due to the fact that he was also shock his friends. Ash knew it was the same situation with his magic but he did his best to shield his friends and he guided them towards him so they would be safe. However, Metapod didn't want help. He wanted to be strong like his trainer and so, despite his lack of movement, he stood up against the angry Beedrill.
"I will be strong!" Metapod proclaimed. Ash heard Metapod's words and he admired him for it but now, his only concern was protecting his new friend.
"Metapod, what are you dong?" Ash asked in shock as he saw the bug face the vicious pokemon.
"Don't be a hero!" Loki yelled. Ash was about to recall his friend into his pokebal until a loud voice rang out.
"Don't be a moron, do your thing!" the voice yelled.
Ash was so startled and annoyed. He knew who that voice belonged to but normally he didn't speak in situations like this. While Ash was distracted, Metapod had tried to fend for himself but then two of the Beedrill had managed to grab him and had started to take off with him.
"Oh no!" Loki said and that got Ash's attention.
"Metapod!" Ash yelled in worry as he did his best to recapture his friend but the Beedrill was too fast.
"Ash come on, it's too late!" Misty said as she grabbed his arm and pulled him off in the other direction.
"I am not leaving him!" Ash protested as he yanked his arm back, which almost made Misty fall over.
"I know that this is hard but we don't want anyone else taken or hurt!" Misty said and as Loki and Pikachu clambered onto his shoulder, he knew Misty was right and reluctantly let her pull him along.
"Faster you guys!" Samurai yelled and after running for a few more minutes, the three of them managed to dive into a nearby bush where the Beedrill then went straight past. All of them let out a sign of relief but Loki quickly dismissed their relief.
"Look," he whispered.
All of them raised their eyes and they visibly paled at what they saw. Hanging from the trees from strings was a whole nest of Kakuna's. Misty was sweating bullets at this point as was Samurai but Pikachu, Loki and Ash remained slightly calmer as he pulled out his Pokedex.
"Kakuna, the yellow cocoon Pokemon. While awaiting evolution, it hides from predators under leaves and in nooks of branches."
"Oh no…that's a lot of them!" Loki commented.
"Clearly," Pikachu said with an eye roll.
"Isn't that Metapod over there?" Loki asked as he pointed over to the bottom of the tree. Sure enough, there lay Metapod. Ash's eyes widened but rather than move in case he woke the sleeping pokemon, he called out to Metapod through his mind.
"Metapod! Over here!" Ash called to him. He saw Metapod twitch and it only took a second for him to reply.
"Oh. Hello. What are you doing here?" Metapod asked.
"What do you mean? I'm here to save you!" Ash replied.
"There's no need. There's no point in me coming with you. I'm useless. I couldn't defend myself," Metapod replied.
"You are not useless, don't ever think or say that!" Ash told him in shock. Metapod didn't answer after that, despite Ash trying to talk to him.
"Go get him Ash!" Samurai said.
"I can't, one step and I'd wake them," Ash told him.
"Intangible?" Loki suggested.
"Even if I could, I'd have to be really careful and I don't have enough energy for it," Ash said as he tried to communicate with Metapod again.
"What do we do?" Misty asked worriedly. Ash was about to respond but then the voice rang out in his head again, much louder this time.
"That's it, if you won't do it, I will!" the voice grunted.
"Don't you dare!" Ash hissed, confusing his friends for a second but then their attention turned to a nearby fallen branch that had slowly risen from the ground and hovered for a moment or two.
"Whoa! Magic branch!" Loki pointed out.
"Ash what are you doing?" Samurai asked in astonishment.
"I'm not doing it!" Ash insisted.
"If you're not, who is?" Pikachu asked.
"Put that branch down!" Ash snapped again, further confusing his friends.
"Oh no, this is the most fun I've had in years!" the voice said and then threw the branch at the trunk of the tree, causing it to shake.
Everyone froze in their places and for a moment, nothing happened but luck was not on their side. A bright light covered the pokemon and their body started to morph and change right before their eyes.
"Oh no, they evolved into Beedrill!" Misty said in horror.
"See, now you're moving!" the voice said with a laugh which caused Ash to scowl.
"Run for it!" Loki yelled as they all started to run once again with the Beedrill hot on their tails. Ash could still hear the smug voice running right next to him and every now and then he would swipe at the air now and then.
"My cabin is up ahead, we'll be safe in there!" Samurai called.
"Loki, fly up and open it!" Ash shouted.
"Aye!" Loki said as he brought out his wings and shot up off Ash's shoulder and crashed open the door with his head. Everyone practically dove inside the cabin and Samurai kicked the door shut. The stingers of the Beedrill then stuck through the door but after they realised that they couldn't get through, they released their stingers and instead started to hover around the cabin.
"Oh thank goodness for that," Misty said as she gasped for breath.
"You lot are a bunch of losers. Running from those things," the voice sneered.
"I swear to Arceus, would you stop it?!" Ash yelled at him. The others looked at him in bewilderment as it looked like he was yelling at the wall.
"Ash, who are you talking to?" Samurai asked.
"Nobody," Ash said quickly as he sat against the wall.
"Clearly you were talking to someone," Misty told him.
"Look, I'm annoyed enough already, we just got chased by Beedrill, we are stuck in here and now for some reason I have a headache," Ash said as he put his head in his hands.
"Cheer up Ash, it'll be fine," Loki said as he came to sit beside him as did Pikachu.
"You know what, you're really good when it comes to battling but when it comes to your magic… I think you're a bit of a novice," Samurai said. That was a mistake.
"What...did you…just say?" Ash practically growled as he dropped his hands. His face was bearing a demonic scowl and it made Pikachu and Loki back away immediately.
"You could have used your magic but there was something stopping you. You can't even control it! When you fought me, you didn't really have much control did you?" Samurai pointed out. Ash fought to resist the urge to stand up and punch him at this.
"Your point?" Ash forced out.
"When I fought the others in battle and magic, they were great, you'd never seen anything like it. I lost against the two of them but I strived to become stronger and beat the next person from Pallet. I lost against you but it was just…well now I realise that there was no proper technique or style behind your moves," Samurai explained.
"Want me to punch him?" the voice asked but Ash ignored him.
"Didn't you get taught how to control that type of magic?" Samurai asked. Misty bit down on her tongue as did the others but Ash just looked at his knees.
"No. Not for long enough anyway," Ash answered bluntly as he leaned his head back. Samurai didn't really understand this answer but Misty shook her head in response. All they could do now was wait.
Ash's Mind:
"What's with you? You seem grumpier than usual," the voice joked.
"I don't want to talk to you," Ash said as he folded his arms.
"Like you're better to talk to," the voice scowled.
"Metapod is stuck with those Beedrill. I'm at fault for leaving him but you're at fault for moving that branch!" Ash yelled.
"Hey, at least I did something! All you did was sit around like a bucket of crap!" the voice shot back.
"I know!" Ash shouted as he pounded his head with his hands.
"Alright. I'm not your friend or anything…" the voice started.
"Gee thanks," Ash said sarcastically.
"Let me finish! All you're doing is complaining. Metapod doesn't believe in itself. Give it encouragement or something. And don't be so sceptical of your magic, believe in it," the voice told him.
"You know what? You're not so bad," Ash said with a grin.
"Shut up loser," the voice scowled.
Early the next morning, Ash had snuck out of the cabin and had started to make his way back to the tree that Metapod was under. He was determined to bring his new friend back with him, no matter what it took. As the tree came into sight, a large thump came onto the back of his head.
"Ow!" he yelled as he whirled round to see a familiar looking Meowth standing behind him. That cat had hit him on the head!
"You know what Meowth's favourite game is?" he asked with a grin.
"What?" Ash asked with an eye roll but then his eyes burned with pain as he felt claws scratch across his face.
"Scratch and sniffle!" Meowth said proudly as he flashed his claws.
"Why you..!" Ash seethed as he rubbed his face but then a pair of voices entered his ears.
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people within our nation!" James said
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jessie!"
"James!"
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"
"Meowth! That's right!"
"Are you being deliberately stupid?!" Ash hissed.
"How dare you!" Jessie seethed as a tick mark appeared on her forehead.
"The Beedrill! You'll wake them up!" Ash answered.
"Ha, even if we do, we have our magic to stop them," James bragged.
"You would use your magic on those innocent Pokemon?" Ash asked angrily.
"Of course, that's what magic is for," Jessie replied. Ash was going to speak up again but unfortunately, his hearing picked up on the buzzing of wings. He slowly turned his head and to his horror, he saw the Beedrill rise up from the slumber.
"Now look what you've done!" Ash yelled.
"Don't whine so much. Just give us your Pikachu and we'll leave you be," Jessie said smugly.
"Really?! You won't let that go? I don't have Pikachu with me and even if I did, I'd never hand him over!" Ash declared as he then started to run towards the incoming Beedrill.
"Oh no you don't!" James declared as the trio gave chase time him. Ash groaned as the three of them were gaining on him. It didn't help that James and Jessie were firing plant and fire bombs at him. He was partly grateful that the Beedrill were avoiding the attacks too.
"Well if I can dodge the Beedrill, then they'll dive onto Team Rocket," Ash said to himself.
Since the swarm was so big, there was no way he could go over them, under them or around them…but he could go through them. Ash could have really done with some Ghost Type attacks to recharge him but he had to do this for Metapod. Narrowing his eyes, he let out a yell and let his body shimmer and turn into a purple shadow. It was hard to keep this focused due to the pressure and the lack of energy but he felt his body phase through the Beedrill with ease. Ash then came back to his physical body and fell roughly onto the ground.
"What? No fair!" Meowth yelled.
Ash let out a loud exhale as he got to his knees and looked back at Team Rocket and smirked. They had attempted to shield themselves with some large tank but some Weedle had managed to chew some big holes through it. They then decided to make a hasty retreat which was smart since the Beedrill seemed to be even angrier now.
"Metapod!" Ash said as he rushed over to his friend by the tree.
"No Ash, leave me," Metapod said.
"Metapod, did I do something to make you feel this way?" Ash asked sadly.
"Of course not. Just seeing you with Pidgeotto, Pikachu and Loki…just makes me feel insignificant. You deserve stronger Pokemon," Metapod told him.
"Metapod…I am weak too, you know. Samurai was right about me earlier. I have no proper control over my magic yet. I wasn't finished training with Yakuri so I have a lot to learn. I have a long way to go before I'm unbeatable. It's the same with the others. No one is strong to start off with. How about we get stronger together? What do you say?" Ash asked as he gave a cheerful smile.
Metapod stared at his trainer in shock. It was one thing to put up with a weak Pokemon but to open his feelings about his own magic was another thing. Most trainers would never have the patience and would rather have a strong pokemon to start off with. Maybe he could be strong like his friend. A sharp buzzing noise then entered their ears and Ash turned his head to see a Beedrill coming straight at him.
"Crap!" Ash yelled as he had completely forgotten about the Beedrill. He didn't want to attack the Pokemon of course but he didn't want to get injured by one too. Metapod had other ideas though as he narrowed his eyes.
"I will be strong!" he yelled as his body then came in contact with the Beedrill sharp pincers. They broke due to Metapod's hard body which caused it to hiss in pain. Ash's eyes were so wide, they nearly popped out of his head.
"Metapod!" Ash said as he caught his friend as he fell.
"I did it!" Metapod said proudly.
"You sure did!" Ash breathed, although his heart was pounding in his chest.
"Ash!" a voice called. Ash turned his head to see Misty, Samurai, Loki and Pikachu coming over and were protected by a large net provided by Samurai. That would have been helpful earlier, Ash thought with a sweat drop.
"Why'd you run off?" Loki shouted from Misty's head.
"I wanted to get Metapod of course," Ash said with a smile. He was then shocked again as a bright light appeared in his arms and he lowered his eyes to see Metapod glowing brightly. Everyone looked at the Bug Pokemon with wide eyes. He was evolving!
"Wow, he's evolving!" Pikachu said in excitement. Metapod's body then morphed from a hard shell into a smaller form with large wings. He floated up out of Ash's arms and as the light faded away, it revealed a beautiful dark and pale blue Pokemon with large wings and big red eyes.
"Butterfree!" Ash said happily as he held up his Pokedex.
"Butterfree, the Butterfly Pokemon and the evolved form of Metapod. The scaled covering its wings helps it shed water. It's known moves are Tackle, Sleep Powder, Gust and Silver Wind."
"Wow it's so beautiful!" Misty admitted with admiration.
"Not that this isn't awesome but we got problems!" Loki yelled as he pointed at the treetops which showed more Beedrill appearing.
"These guys don't quit!" Ash commented.
"Don't worry Ash I can take them! Can I take them on my own?" Butterfree asked. Ash was grinning with pride at his newly evolved friend and he gave a determined nod.
"You bet Butterfree!" Ash said.
Butterfree then flew towards the swarm and fluttered his wings gracefully and a sparkling orange powder fell off his wings. As soon as it hit the Beedrill, they all started to drop the ground into a deep slumber. Ash knew that this was a good move for later battles.
"Alright!" Loki yelled.
"Well done!" Pikachu cheered.
"You did it!" Ash said with a grin as Butterfree started to fly around the group cheerfully. Ash's eyes never left Butterfree as he knew that he was on his way to becoming one strong Pokemon.
It was now later in the evening and the group were all back on the main path that led to the next city. Butterfree was now resting in his Pokeball while Loki and Pikachu were perched on Ash's shoulders. Misty was relieved to be free of the bugs but she had requested to keep the netting that had protected them earlier.
"Thanks Samurai. For your help and advice," Ash said.
"No problem Ash but now, compared to you, I'm the novice," Samurai admitted.
"Ash is number one!" Loki cheered which earned him an eye roll from Ash.
"I will keep perfecting my techniques and earn more swords through hard training! We will meet again one day and we will have a Pokemon battle and a magic battle!" Samurai said.
"I like the sound of that!" Ash agreed.
Everyone laughed at that comment and they bid Samurai farewell before heading off to the next city. Unknown to them, Team Rocket had not ended up empty handed. Although they were currently wrapped up like Kakuna's, they had taped some footage of Ash from earlier. Giovanni would definitely be interested.
Ash's mind is up to something...what could it be? And what was that voice? I cannot wait to reveal who it is! So I hope you enjoyed, please review, here your cupcakes and bye for now!
