Brad and "Judy" came back for Fred that night, as a woman watched from a bush in front of the house's large living room window. The woman was glad the replacement she had found had played off of Brad so well. They had the chance to become the parents that Fred had needed and provide an example of what a functioning relationship could look like. She was glad that the kid bought it, or at least, that's what she tried to tell herself that still wished she'd been able to tell him who "Judy" really was—and who she herself really was. Janet Nettles stood up and walked away, knowing she'd always regret giving her son yet another lie about his parents.
