Eyes Red as Blood
Fifth Night: Day Class? Night Class?
"Headmaster Cross said you'll stay in one of the guest bedrooms for now," Yuki replied, opening the door to one of the various bedrooms in the hall.
"Thank you," Arisu said stepping inside to look at the simple room. There was a desk next to an open window with a bed adjacent to it, a dresser, and a door leading to a private bathroom to the right of the room. Her belongings were at the foot of her bed. Arisu walked towards the window, the moon was still out. It must be past midnight already.
"Oh I almost forgot, wait here," Yuki told Arisu before heading back out into the hallway. She came back shortly with a bundle of things in her arms. "Here, you'll be needing these soon." She was holding the Cross Academy Day class uniform and on top of that was the Prefect armband.
"Thank you, Yuki," Arisu said, receiving the objects. She set the things on her bed with care. Yuki didn't immediately excuse herself. Instead she stood, rocking from one foot to the other.
"If you are Kaname's sister, how come you didn't come to the Academy when he did?" Yuki finally asked, but quickly backpedaled, "Sorry, you don't have to answer that. I don't mean to impose or anything I was just curious."
Arisu's eyes saddened. How could Yuki ever think she could impose? She waved the younger girl's worry away, "No, it's completely fine. Don't even worry about it! But to answer your question, he wanted to keep me hidden from the Vampire Council. I'm not even supposed to be here to be completely honest with you."
Yuki looked up, shocked to see someone going against Kaname's wishes. None of the other vampires ever did that, "Then why did you come?"
"There is someone very dear to me here," Arisu replied, smiling kindly at Yuki, "Someone that probably doesn't remember me. But it's worth a shot, isn't it?"
"Yes," Yuki agreed after a bit of thinking, "It is."
"So, how's life like here at the academy? Since I'm new and all." Arisu walked over to the bed to sit down, patting the space next to her.
"Well, I'm not sure how to answer that," Yuki responded, sitting next to her, "life here has its ups and downs, I guess."
Arisu could tell something was on Yuki's mind by the way the other girl was frowning, "I know we just met, but I can tell something is bothering you."
Yuki looked up, startled. There was a reassuring smile on Arisu's face. The younger girl looked down to the floor and then out the window before she replied, "I feel like I know you from somewhere, and I know it's impossible because you are a pureblood." Yuki sheepishly smiles at Arisu, "I don't know why."
"Oh," Arisu responded, not knowing what to say.
"Were you there the night he rescued me?" Yuki asks, her brows furrowed.
"I actually wasn't. He only told me about it after he went back home," Arisu spoke. Her brown eyes darting to the floor and staying there.
"Hmm." Yuki knew it was hopeless to find out about her past through anyone other than Kaname. Both girls sat in silence because neither knew how to continue the conversation.
"Uhm, do you know what your classes are?" Yuki asked, trying to make conversation. She wanted to get along with Arisu, not because she was Kaname's sister, but she remembered what it was like to transfer in mid school year. The only other person in their grade who she had known was Zero. Not that he was much help; he had always been so brooding!
"No, not yet," Arisu replied, "I think Headmaster Cross will give me my schedule tomorrow… I think."
"Most likely," Yuki thought for a while before asking, "So, how old are you?"
"I'm 15," Arisu indulged her questions.
"Is that in Vampire years or in human years. I can't tell the difference really!"
"Human," Arisu laughed, "What about Zer -"
The unlocked door swung wide open. 'Huh I wonder if he knew I was about to mention him,' Arisu thought, looking into the doorway. Zero stood as furious and annoyed as ever.
"Let's go, Yuki," he demanded, walking in and grabbing Yuki by the arm before he started to pull her out.
"Geez, I don't even get a greeting," Arisu spoke just before they crossed the door.
Zero glared at her, pushing Yuki in front of himself. "Why bother? Knowing Yuki, you two will become great friends, and then I'll see you every day… Unfortunately."
"Oh, really? Anyways, hello to you, my new friend Zero!"
Zero's eyes widened, but it only served to annoy him even more. His glare became steely, and Arisu had to admit he was a little scary.
"Zero? I think you should calm down," Yuki pleaded, panicking when it seemed that Zero was reaching for his gun in its holster.
"Don't ever call me that again," Zero replied furiously.
"Alright, alright, I was only joking." Arisu was holding her hands up in surrender. She was having too much fun teasing the gloomy vampire.
Yuki felt relief now that Zero didn't seem to want to murder Arisu, "I think we better go before you do something reckless, Zero. See you later, Arisu!"
Zero glared at Arisu one more time before he walked out the door, muttering about insufferable purebloods. Arisu could hear Yuki scold him as the door closed behind them.
Arisu sighed, deciding that she should go to sleep considering the clock on the wall read 3:25 A.M.
A couple of hours later the campus was abound with gossip about the new transfer students as student not so quietly whispered among themselves, speculating about the new comer. No one was paying attention in class when the teacher walked in and stood at the front of the room.
"I heard she's from a wealthy family."
"She's supposedly related to someone of the Night Class students."
"She can't be. Why would she be joining the Day Class Instead?"
"EVERYONE QUIET DOWN!" The teacher eventually yelled. "Now that I have your attention, we have a new transfer student. You may come in now."
Every student gasped when Arisu entered. She was wearing the Day Class uniform and the prefect armband.
"Class this is Arisu Kuran," the teacher continued.
"THe class burst in excited chattering.
"QUIET! I suspect that many of you have questions. Is it all right?" He looked at Arisu for permission
"Yes," Arisu replied, and a dozen hands shot up in the air. Not that it mattered because the students eventually just blurted their questions out.
"Are you related to Kaname Kuran?" A girl all the way in the back asked.
"Yes, he is my brother," Arisu replied with a smile on her lips. The boys in the class were mesmerized, now they finally understood why the girls fawned over the stoic boy.
"Can you hang out with me?" Girls were practically fighting over who would get to hang out with Arisu. "You can sit with us at lunch!"
"Oh dear, this was a bad idea," the teacher sighed. They slammed their folder on the table and everyone quieted down again. "You all can do your socializing on your own time, but it is time for class to start. Arisu, you can choose any empty seat." Arisu looked around, knwoing Yuki was in this class. She saw Yuki already sitting next to another girl, and her hopes fell. Her disappointment was quickly overcome by amusement because she saw an even better opportunity. Behind Yuki, Zero was sitting by himself already scowling. It was final. She had chosen her seat. Every student's gaze followed her and some haws dropped when they realized where she was headed. The new girl had the guts to sit next to Kiryu!
"Good Morning, Kiryu," Arisu spoke as she took a seat next to him.
"It was a good morning before you came," Zero replied scathingly. Some of the other boys glared at Zero but quickly cowed when he glared back.
"Wow, you don't have to be so mean about it," Arisu happily responded, "I don't know anyone present other than you and Yuki."
"Then make some new friends or better yet join the Night Class." Zero taunted, "Or did you not have the grades to get in?"
Arisu smiled and was about to respond before the door to the class opened. That fact along wouldn't have drawn her attention if it weren't for the squeals of the day calss girls. Hanabusa Aido and Akatski Kain were standing in the doorway.
"IDOL! WILD!"
The two completely ignored the girls and walked up to the teacher.
"It seems something happened with Ms. Kuran's paper work," Hanabusa spoke to the teacher, "She was supposed to join the Night Class. We are sorry to interrupt class, but Ms. Kuran has to come with us. The headmaster told us to come fetch her."
Arisu sighed and spoke to Zero under her breath, "Looks like your wish has come true, Zero."
Zero smirked back, triumphantly. Now there wouldn't be a menace in the class and he'd be able to have the whole table to himself again.
Yuki looked up to Arisu, confusion and worry were clear on her face.
"I'll see you later Yuki, Zero." Arisu quickly made her way to the front of the classroom. "It was very nice to meet you all," Arisu addressed the class, and bowed before leaving the class with Hanabusa and Akatsuki following behind her.
Once the three were out of hearing range, Arisu asked, "Kaname did this, didn't he?"
"Yes, Arisu-sama, out of concern for you," Akatsuki replied, not even bothering to hide the fact
"Hmm, maybe he should be concerned with other things," Arisu replied smiling, signaling the two of them to show her the way.
'She's definitely as scary as Kaname-sama,' Hanabusa shivered.
The three of them walked through the halls do the halls of the building, walking toward the open courtyard. Arisu started to pout eventually, put out that she didn't seem to be getting her way. She didn't notice the other two had stopped walking until she collided with their backs, "Ow. Why'd we stop?"
Hanabusa sheepishly looked away. Akatsuki laughed at him before replying, "Well, Hanabusa is sensitive to the sun, more so than others."
Arisu peered at Hanabusa with a tinge of guilt; she often forgot what the sun felt like for vampires. The blond vampire glanced at her and upon seeing her expression quickly straightened up, "Oh, do not worry about me, Arisu-sama. The sun probably affects you even more, right?"
"To tell you the truth, the sun has no effect on me at all." She sidestepped Hanabusa and walked into the courtyard. She smiled back at the vampires. "It feels rather nice actually."
The three made their way through the campus eventually reaching the gate to the Moon Dorms, which promptly opened. Perhaps there was someone on lookout because the gates didn't seem to be automatic. The Moon Dorms were not exactly as grande as Arisu was expecting them to be. It was evident these buildings were old, just like the rest of the campus. They made their way through the foyer where a couple of vampires were standing around. They watched them, unsure of how to greet. Hanabusa and Akatsuki didn't make introductions, instead they led her through the staircases to one of the residential wings, stopping in front of Kaname's door.
"Kaname-sama," Akatski spoke as he knocked on the dorm room door. Kaname's voice came through the door, bidding them inside.
"Hello again, Kaname." Arisu inclined her head in greeting.
"Good morning to you," Kaname replied to her. To Hanabusa and Akatsuki he said, "Thank you for fetching her. You may leave now."
"Yes, Kaname-sama," both of them replied and made their way out of the room.
Kaname was sitting at his desk in front of a window whose draps were drawn to block out the sun. He settled back in his chair and looked over Arisu. Really, what was she thinking. Her face was set in an angry pout. If it had been another time, it would've been adorable.
"You just couldn't leave me in the Day Class, could you?" Arisu crossed in front of herself.
He sighed in response, drawing himself out of the chair.
"Well?" Arisu demanded an answer, scrutinizing him as he made his way to his bed. She almost faltered and went to help him. He really did look tired.
"Now why would I leave my dear little sister in a room full of selfish creatures?" Kaname reasoned, wearily pulling his covers back. He took off his slippers and climbed under the sheets.
"Ha! That's your excuse," Arisu exclaimed. She walked over to the large window and drew the curtain just enough so that she could peek outside. The sun was shinning even more brightly now. She grinned as she pulled the curtains less than halfway open, flooding the room with light causing Kaname to make a disgruntled noise, "Why is it so dark in here? You should enjoy the sunlight more."
"You forget you're just about the only one who can do that," Kaname replied testily, drawing his covers closer to his face now that he was lying down. He really did want to sleep and that extra light wasn't helping matters.
Arisu looked at him and frowned, "Well, I can see you need to rest." Her face lit up, "And, considering that you can't do anything about the sun, I can roam the school grounds!"
That got Kaname groaning and sitting up once again, "Why must you do this to me?"
"I don't understand what your saying, brother," Arisu replied with an innocent look in her eyes.
Kaname squinted at her before giving up and rubbing his eyes with his hand, "Never mind. Take Seiren with you at least."
"No, it's completely fine. What kind of disciplinary committee member would I be if I couldn't take care of myself?" Arisu retorted smiling, "Besides Seiren is your bodyguard, not mine."
"Ugh, fine," Kaname replied tiredly, "Take Hanabusa. I'm sure he's free." He laid down and pulled the covers over his head.
Arisu raised an eyebrow. "Well, rest up, Kaname. I'll ask Hnabusa if I see him."
"Great," Kaname murmured, turning around.
Arisu thought as she looked outside again and grinned. She didn't have to ask Hanabusa is she didn't see him in first place though. She opened the curtain completely and threw the window open and jumped out. She landed on the ground with a soft thud.
"ARISU!" Kaname yelled after her, annoyed and hissing at the assaulting rays of sun.
