Eigth Night: Arisu's fun, Hanabusa's nightmare
"Hanabusa, Hanabusa," a voice disturbed his peaceful sleep.
"Ugh, I don't want to wake up yet," he replied, sleepily turning to face the other direction.
"Hey, Hanabusa," something continued to shake him, "we have to get going if we want to get back early!"
Hanabusa opened one eye and glanced at his clock on the nightstand. "But it's seven in the morning, and the suns out!"
"Human stores only open during the day, so suck it up." She was steadily becoming more irritated with him. "Now get out of bed before I make you!" A dangerous aura reached out to Hanabusa, finally waking him from his sleep. Arisu's face was right in front of his, gazing odwn at him as a smile spread across her face. "Good, now you are awake, so hurry up and we can go!" She skipped out of the room.
"Why me," Hanabusa groaned as he tried to get out of his lavender scented sheets only to fall down once again. He tried again, this time landing on the floor with a loud thud.
"Could you be any louder?" Akatsuki sardonically hissed, pulling the covers over his head. "I'm trying to sleep."
"Lucky," Hanabusa muttered darkly, glancing at his cousin who was encased in his sheets on his bed. When Hanabusa was finally able to stand up, he walked over to his closet and picked out his clothes. He ended up with a fresh white collared shirt, dark jeans, and a black jacket. He was reaching down to get his shoes when he saw a note on his desk.
It read:
Hanabusa, make sure you watch carefully over Arisu. If by any chance you encounter another vampire, especially Kai Koruya, make sure Arisu stays safe. Remember that I will tolerate no less than that.
-Kaname Kuran
Oh, how Hanabusa wanted to curl back into bed and stay there forever.
It was only a couple of hours later, but Hanabusa wished he had stayed at the dorms at the very least.
"What do you think about this one?" Arisu asked, pulling out a long formal coral dress.
"Honestly? I can't tell which way is home anymore," the aristocrat replied while throwing himself onto a nearby couch. They had been at this for hours not to mention it took half an hour to get to town walking.
"You are absolutely no help," Arisu sighed, "well, I guess it should be expected. You are a guy after all. I wouldnt expect you to be able to choose a dress." She continued to look through the rows of dresses with dismay clearly written on her face.
"Is that a challenge?" Hanabusa instantly perked up.
"You could think of it that way," Arisu replied, trying to hide her smile.
"Okay I will find a dress that befits you, Arisu." Hanabusa went into deep thought... at least that's what seemed like to Arisu.
'Hopefully he doesn't do anything rash,' Arisu thought. Perhaps it was not a good idea to put Hanabusa up to this. Nonetheless, she continued to look through all of the designer dresses, though she could not find a thing she liked. She thought about going to the soirée in something other than formal wear, but Kaname would surely have a fit again. It would be a tempting spectacle to watch. She was about ready to give up when she strolled over to one of the female workers to ask for help. "Excuse me, do you know where I could find more formal evening gowns?"
The girl's eyes dilated and briefly she wondered if Arisu was with the handsome young man she had seen walk out of the store just moments before.
"Yes, let me show you where to go," the store workere replied, leading Arisu to the back.
"If it's not a hindrance to you, do you think you could help me pick out something?" Arisu politely asked. Honestly, she just wanted to buy something in order to go back home. She had gotten bored of looking through the racks an hour into the trip, but her only consolationg was Hanabusa's pouting face. Now that he was gone, this endevaour was significantly less amusing.
"Of course, miss." A couple of minutes later, between the two of them, they had found a couple of dresses for Arisu to try on. The first was a long orange strapless dress that looked wonderful on Arisu, but she disliked the color. The next one was a one-strap maroon colored knee length dress that hugged Arisu's figure, but lessened her ability to move. The last was a blue dress that reached the floor in layers. The top was strapless and snugly fit Arisu, fanning out toward the botton. Arisu was going to go with the last one until Hanabusa finally walked back into the shop. He seemingly had already bought a dress in the time he was gone. He held up a black laced, spaghetti strap cobalt blue dress with a bow at the side of the waist. The top was rectangular and trimmed with black lace. From the waist down, there were three layers that fanned out. The first was short and reached a bit below mid thigh. The next was above the knee and the last was a black see through lace that reached the floor. There was a shawl to go with it. Arisu stared at the dress amazed. How could Hanabusa find one perfect dress in less than an hour?
"Are you going to try it on?" Hanabusa asked, handing her the dress.
"Yes." Arisu received the dress and went into the dressing room before coming out wearing the dress. Hanabusa had done too good of a job finding a dress. The human girls standing near were whispering excitedly as she twirled in her new dress. Happy that they had found a dress, Arisu went back into the fitting room and changed back into her black collared shirt, white skirt, and a black overcoat. "Thank you so much, Hanabusa," Arisu said as she walked over and hugged him, "you are a lifesaver!"
"You are welcome," Hanabusa replied smugly. After finding the dress, it was easy to look for black heels that matched, and they even found a gold with a water shaped sapphire necklace. They decided it was best to stop at a coffee shop and grab something to eat.
"Hanabusa, thank you for accompanying me today." Arisu stared at her drink instead of the aristocrat.
"It's not a problem, Arisu," Hanabusa replied, smiling, "You were right. It was actually kind of fun... Well, after those atrcious first hours."
Arisu made an indignant noise, but then smiled. "I'm glad, but to tell you the truth I've never been anywhere outside alone. It sort of scares me."
"That's quite alright," Hanabusa nodded his head, "I mean you were sheltered for most of your life."
"It's not just that," She turned back to her drink. Her eyes no longer sparkled and she seemed to fixated on the bitter drink. Hanabusa remained silent, not knowing how to comfort her. She glanced out the window momentarily and her eyes widened. Forgetting there were other humans in the shop, Arisu ran to the door as fast as she could. Confused and flustered, Hanabusa hastily reached into his pocket and pulled out more than enough money to pay for the drinks, dropping it carelessly on the table. He very nearly forgot the bags of items on the floor. All he heard in his haste was "Come back soon!"
Outside, Arisu looked around quickly. She couldn't believe it. What was he doing here? Was something wrong? At this point, she was sure she was chasing a ghost as she was running. There was a flash of silver hair and the person made a sharp turn at the corner. Arisu ran with all the strength she had. She hadn't realized it sooner, but the urge to see him again had been festering all along. She wanted - no, she needed to see him again. It had only been a couple of days, but it seemed like a century to her. She rounded the corner, but there was nobody there. There was no trace of anyone being there. Dejected, she walked further until she found a small park, but she was still searching. There were red rose bushes growing near the trees and again she saw an odd colored rose. It wasn't growing with the other roses, but it was laid carefully on top of the rose bush. He had actually been there. Arisu looked around frantically again and saw a black coated figure go behind the small house near the park. Arisu ran to him just as his body turned to ash.
