End of Civil War:

Steve helped Bucky walk out of the Hydra base on the mountain in Siberia and saw T'Challa in the distance with Zemo's hands forced behind his back. "I have captured Zemo," T'Challa said as he forced him to walk forward, "and I won't let him kill himself before he faces a proper trial. What are you going to do with your friend?"

Bucky stood up on his own and tenderly held his left side in pain as Steve confessed, "I don't know."

"I'll go back into hiding," Bucky answered, "it worked for two years."

"Where would you go?" Steve asked, "How would you live? I can't let you do that to yourself again. Besides, Tony will never let you walk away and live a normal life. It's too dangerous for you out there, Buck."

T'Challa said, "I have a place. You can live there alongside my family and myself. You were a victim of this man's psychopathy, as was my father and if I can help one of you gain peace, I would be content."

"Where are you from?" Bucky asked.

"Wakanda," T'Challa answered. Bucky still gave him a confused look, having never heard of that country before.

Steve said, "I don't want to offend you, Your Highness, but I've heard that's a rather...underdeveloped country. I don't think that's a good idea. If Tony or anyone else finds out he's there, they will try to take him from you."

Bucky said, "I'm sure I've faced worse."

"Please Captain America," T'Challa said, "why don't you come and see my home before you judge it so harshly?"

"I don't have many options right now, Steve," Bucky said, "it's either this or nothing."

"Fair enough," Steve said.

"Before we go anywhere," T'Challa said as he reached behind his back, "I believe this belongs to you." He took the red notebook with a silver star in the center out and extended his hand for Bucky to take it. "Do with it what you want, when you are ready," he added.

Bucky took it from him and said, "Thank you."

Steve said, "We better get out of here before Tony tries to come after us again. Before we head to Wakanda, I have another stop I need to make."

"I know exactly where the Avengers are being kept," T'Challa said, "I don't believe they deserve to be imprisoned. Meanwhile, I have to drop Zemo here off at the UN but I'll meet you at the prison before we go to my home."

After everyone was rescued, Steve got them onto the quinjet and followed T'Challa to Wakanda. Scott, Clint, Wanda, Sam, and Bucky all sat and stood around inside.

"I can't do this," Clint said, "I can't be on the run with you guys and after hearing about what these accords can do, I don't agree with them either. I'm going to have to turn myself in. It's too much on my family to be a hero on the run."

Steve said, "I understand but you should be able to work out a deal so you can be with your family rather than imprisoned against your will."

"I'm going to have to agree with him," Scott added, "I can't be on the run from the law either. I've done too much of that already."

"I don't mind," Wanda said, "I've never been on the run before. It almost sounds exciting."

"It wears off fast," Bucky confessed. He carefully took off his jacket with his right arm and proceeded to painfully take off his shirt.

Sam asked, "And what exactly happened to you two while we were in lockdown? Did Tony really try to take you out? Holy-" He stopped as he saw the fresh burn wounds covering Bucky's left side up past his metal shoulder down to his waist. He took a clean fresh white cloth and wiped the blood off of himself and covered it with water to help cool down his wounds.

Wanda gasped in horror.

Scott asked, "Why did Tony do that?"

"I killed his parents when I was under Hydra's control a few decades ago," Bucky explained sadly, "and he wasn't happy when he found out."

Wanda asked, "Does it hurt?" Bucky looked up at her, knowing that question didn't warrant an answer.

Scott said, "I'm going to take that as a yes."

"What are you going to do?" Clint asked, "Tony isn't the type of guy to give up just because you won a round against him. He'll keep trying to find you no matter where you are or what laws there are in place trying to stop him."

Steve said, "We have a plan for that."

"Is that why we're following T'Challa?" Sam asked, "We're going to Wakanda with him?"

"Bucky and I are," Steve said, "the rest of you will stay in here until I get out of there. Prince T'Challa's orders."

Wanda asked, "So you're going to hide?" She looked at Steve and then back to Bucky.

"What other choice do I have?" Bucky said, "Outside of Tony and his issues, I can't trust my own mind. Anyone could take the words written in here and say them to me and I would do whatever they commanded, even though I don't want to." He gestured to the notebook sitting beside him.

She asked, "Can I see?"

"It's in Russian," he said as he handed it to her, open to the proper page.

"I'm Sokovian," she replied, "I know Russian." She glanced at it and said, "These series of words in here, the one that starts with longing are the ones used to control you?" He nodded. "I can take these words out of your head," she explained, "it's simple. I just have to say them to you while I use my powers on your mind and I'll take away the pathway in your brain that they exist in. When I'm done it would be as if they were never there in the first place. You will never be controlled by anyone ever again."

Bucky asked, "It's that easy?"

She nodded and said, "Yeah, that easy."

"Will it hurt?" he asked nervously.

She turned to Steve and asked, "Does it hurt when I use my powers on someone's brain?"

"No," he answered.

Sam started, "How does he-never mind. We can talk about it later." Clint mouthed to him, long story.

Wanda activated her powers and forced the red glow around Bucky's head as she slowly said his trigger words in Russian. When she was finished, she quickly pulled her powers away and he looked at her in confusion.

"Nothing happened," he said, delightfully surprised.

Clint asked, "What would normally happened by now?"

"I'd be ready to comply to everyone here," he said. He closed his eyes in bliss, knowing that would never be controlled by Hydra or anyone else ever again.

Sam said, "You're still yourself. I'll take that as a win."

Outside of Wakanda, T'Challa landed his plane outside of the barrier hiding his country and had Bucky and Steve walk into his plane with him. He had a change of white clothes for Bucky to put on, since his own were so blood stained.

"My people aren't used to outsiders," T'Challa explained as he piloted his plane into the air.

Bucky asked, "Are you sure it'll be okay for me to live here?"

Steve said, "Whoa, hey, wait! Wait!" T'Challa flew through the mountain as Bucky and Steve braced themselves and each other for impact but instead of crashing into the mountains, they were suddenly in a massive mountain range and valley surrounded by wildlife, fields, and rainforest.

"I don't know what just happened," Bucky said, "but I love it here already."

"Still think we're an underdeveloped nation, Captain?" T'Challa asked as he flew over his city and passed countless high rise buildings and skyscrapers.

"I don't understand," Steve said in awe, "everything I saw about this country said that it's the poorest one in the world. This is amazing!"

T'Challa said, "We keep secrets. It's why everyone else had to wait outside our barrier." He landed outside of Shuri's lab that was isolated and only surrounded by fields in every direction. "Come," he instructed as he got out of the plane.

Inside the lab, Bucky got an IV as his injuries rapidly healed themselves in front of Shuri and the doctors and nurses.

"This is incredible," Shuri noted, "you're already almost completely healed on your own without the help of vibrainium. These injuries only happened within the last several hours?"

"Super soldier serum," Bucky answered, "it works fast." He half smiled.

T'Challa said, "We can build you a new stronger arm out of vibrainium. That's the same material as what my suit is made out of and you already know how tough that is and Captain America's shield is the same thing."

Bucky glanced down at his missing arm, remembering the horrors he allowed him to do for Hydra and anyone else who wanted to control him. He hesitated and confessed quietly, "I don't know." He looked back up at T'Challa and Steve who were both surprised.

Shuri replied, completely unphased by that answer, "I'll make you one anyway." She examined his left side.

"I should probably get going soon," Steve said, "the UN still wants to arrest me, especially since I just freed all of their superhero prisoners."

"Go save the world," Bucky replied, then stood up off of the table.

"I'll come back and visit soon," Steve said as he reached out and hugged him, "I promise."

Bucky hugged him back and said, "See you then."

"I'll be back before you know it," Steve said, "so don't have too much fun here without me. Living like this looks terrible, I mean, look at this place!" He spun around and gestured jokingly. Bucky smiled at him.

T'Challa said, "We're going to have to have a meeting with the council in order to decide officially if you can be here, Bucky."

"What do you mean?" Bucky asked.

"Since I'm the prince and I'm about to become the king they can't actually defy me," he continued, "so you will be allowed to live here no matter what they say, but it would help me to have their opinions on this situation."

Steve waved goodbye as he left and Bucky waved back.

Later, having been cleaned up so he could present him, Bucky awkwardly stood before everyone in the council, including T'Challa, his mother, Shuri, W'Kabi and everyone else. Unsure of where to look, or if he should smile or not, he glanced around nervously and desperately hoped no one would be too bothered by him.

"We won't have him here," the wise woman said.

"For centuries we haven't allowed outsiders to cross our Wakanda borders," W'Kabi said hastily, "why should we let him in now?"

T'Challa explained, "He's a victim of troubling circumstances. My father would want to help him if he knew the truth." Everyone went silent as Bucky tried to put on a brave face.

Ramonda said, "T'Challa, this man is wanted for murder. It was all over the news earlier."

"While he is innocent of killing my father," T'Challa explained, staring Bucky in the eyes, "he committed crimes against his will in the past and wishes to never do so again."

W'Kabi asked, "Why should we trust him?" Bucky hung his head in shame, knowing that he had a good point.

"We shouldn't," Ramonda answered, "but if he should stay, he should be watched at all times."

W'Kabi said, "So we have to babysit a grown man now?" Bucky glanced around nervously, trying not to show his discomfort to that idea and smiled weakly.

T'Challa said, "Yes. Do we have any volunteers?"

Awkward silence.

Shuri stepped forward and said, "I'll do it. I'm building him a new arm anyway."

Ramonda said, "I don't know about this. Even while watching him closely, keeping him here is still dangerous since he is a wanted man. Are you sure you thought about this all the way through, T'Challa?"

"He will need a proper pseudonym as a disguise," T'challa replied, "that way no one will know the truth. Besides, most Wakandans don't watch foreign news programs anyway, but this is an extra precaution."

"A pseudonym?" Bucky asked.

Shuri replied, "A nickname."

"I know what it means," he said, "'Bucky' should be fine."

T'Challa explained, "Think of the name we'll provide for you as more of a moniker."

"The Winter Soldier," he said.

Shuri asked, "Do you really want to be known for that?" Bucky frowned, knowing that he didn't.

W'Kabi said, "He's exotic, like a wolf." Bucky narrowed his eyes at that comment but didn't say anything.

Shuri said, "Exactly! He will now be White Wolf to us forever and always. I like it!" She turned to Bucky who looked back at her, mildly confused.

He asked, "Is that because I'm white?"

"No," she replied, "my brother is called Black Panther to differentiate him from Pink Panther."

"There's a...a what?" Bucky asked, completely lost.

"Shuri!" Ramonda scolded.

"Sorry mother," she said, then turned back to Bucky, "Do you like the name White Wolf for yourself or not?"

He shrugged, "Sure."
