Summary: "The answering voice contained only a hint of a strain, but it was still concerning. Jack Sparrow never showed weakness." A small AU one-shot that takes place at the end of OST that shows Barbossa still has some regard for his former captain's well-being.
Unfit To Travel
"Is that everyone?" Captain Hector Barbossa growled at his new crew as they regrouped. He realized a moment later that it wasn't everyone. "Where be Jack Sparrow?"
"Dunno, sir." One man, Scrum, told him. "Haven't seen 'im in awhile."
The one-legged man sighed, before raising his voice loud enough to echo the cavern. "Jack, we're leavin'!"
"As much as I'd love to come, mate, ye'll have to leave me." The answering voice contained only a hint of a strain, but it was still concerning. Jack Sparrow never showed weakness.
Barbossa's brow furrowed. He limped over in the direction of his rival's voice, peering over a small ledge that overlooked the cavern that contained the Fountain of Youth itself. He frowned, not spotting the other man. A flash of movement caught his eye a couple of moments later and he turned slightly to his right.
He was caught off guard by the sight of Jack Sparrow, various sword wounds going clean through his abdomen. His clothing was stained red from his own blood, his chest heaving as he fought for breath. His eyes were unfocused as he glanced up at the older man, a smirk that looked like a grimace pulling at his lips.
"I'm not exactly fit to travel." A huff that sounded like it was meant to be a laugh escaped his lungs.
Barbossa glanced at two of his men and jerked his head towards the injured man. "Grab him."
