Logan raised both his hands as if she were holding a gun.
"Ororo." He never called her that. "Look, it's just me. As much as I probably deserve to be hit, I'd rather kiss you right now."
Out of nowhere she dropped her hand and started sobbing. Logan had no idea what to do. He slowly reached to take the weapon away. When he set it down she grabbed his arm and pulled him into an embrace, still crying and still making him worried. She was one of the strongest people he knew, and had never seen her like this. She was crying so much that she couldn't speak.
"'Ro, what's wrong? What happened? Are you hurt?" He would have pulled away to check if she was okay but she wasn't breaking the embrace anytime soon. He kissed the top of her head and when she relaxed, led her to the set of chairs nearby. She was wiping away her tears and trying to regain composure, but Logan was still worried that she hadn't said a word. He took both of her hands in his. "Darlin' you have to tell me if something happened. Are you okay?"
She nodded yes. After a couple of deep breaths she began. "I apologize for my sudden outburst. It was unbecoming and embarrassing. If I were to be honest, I saw your face and broke. Something came over me, like," she put her head down and closed her eyes. "Like every fiber of my being was waiting to be near you in order to relax, and when I saw you, my tension released all at once." She laughed, shaking her head. "Am I even making sense right now?"
He continued holding her hand, stroking them with his thumbs.
"No, you're making complete sense." When she looked back up she could see tears forming in his eyes. In that moment she felt what he was trying to say. She felt the longing, the anxiety, the frustration he felt all while she was away. "I understand completely, 'Ro. And it's a shame because I've probably felt half of what you feel every time I leave." He kissed her hand gently. If I ever make you feel like that again, promise you'll tell me."
She didn't know what to say. It was everything she ever wanted to hear, but she didn't know how to acknowledge it. Instead, she got hit with a weird feeling, and decided to change the topic of conversation.
"Logan? It feels...different. Why does is feel different in here?"
He chuckled to himself and stood up. He thought it was a good idea to save that subject for another time too, and followed along. "Well, first of all, I made the chairs we're sitting on." He watched as her face changed from confused to surprised. He reached out for her hands and pulled her up. "Let me show you around." She held her arm as they walked through the greenhouse.
He fixed all of the leaks coming from the sprinklers. He built shelving and drawers underneath all the counters for any extra space or plants she wanted to add. He walked her around to the front of the building where he showed her a giant wooded box that was stood on four legs. Before she could ask what it was, he lifted the lid to show it was full of fresh dirt. She gasped in excitement. No more would she have to clean up her messes from transferring bags of dirt to and from her plants! The last thing he showed her was the solar powered lighting he put throughout the house. They were placed along the trails leading up to the greenhouse, and strung up so beautifully across the ceiling. For the third time that day, Storm didn't know what to say!
"Logan, thank you for all of this. I didn't expect...how do you...when did-?" She took in a breath and sighed. "You didn't have to do all of this!"
"He raised an eyebrow. "Do you think I don't know that, 'Ro?" She looked shocked at his tone, but let him continue on. "I would do this for nobody else. I do it for you because you deserve it." He began raising his voice and speaking almost as if he was angry. "You're worth it. And I am just now realizing that I would do anything, however long it takes, just to make you smile!" He paused as what he had just said caught up to them. "I have to go." He began to walk away.
"No. Logan wait." Ororo looked at him in amazement. She had never seen him express himself that way. "I understand your frustration, and I am sorry that I caused it. I truly appreciate what you have done. The time and effort and passion that you put into everything shows me what you've been thinking. It is all so lovely. I supposed I just didn't know what to say." Logan began walking back up to her. "I will just shut up and say thank you now. Thank you, Lo-" she couldn't finish her sentence because he began kissing her. In the past few minutes, it was so hard figuring out what he was thinking. 'I hope tomorrow will be less emotionally exhausting for the both of us.'
"I'm sorry too. For being out of control. I actually do have to go, though. I'm meeting up with a group in the Danger Room. We're covering resourcefulness and adaptability. Can I see you tonight?"
She nodded her head while touching her lips. She looked at him thoughtfully and said, "Try not to put the children through hell, okay?"
"I promise nothing, Your Highness." He winked at her before turning and leaving.
She sighed and sat down in her new chair. She would need the rest of the day to process what the hell was going with them anyway.
