The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden: Kiki Meets Genocide Jill

Chapter Three: Kiki Apologizes

"Mommy?"

Kyoko turned around, turning off the stove burner that she had just turned on before spinning around to see Kiki, a sheepish expression on her face, she and her father still dressed in their sleepwear as Makoto smiled at her encouragingly.

"Go on, Kiki. Tell Mommy what we discussed."

Feeling Makoto nudge her, Kiki walked forward, forcing out over the lump in her throat "I…I'm sorry, Mommy. For pushing you away last night. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, Mommy."

Kneeling down so that she was at eye-level with her daughter, Kyoko asked softly "So then…why did you, sweetie? You can talk to Mommy about anything, you know that, right?"

Nodding, Kiki replied "Yeah, I know. It's just that…last night…you seemed so strong. And I thought…I needed to be strong too. So I thought…if I handled it myself…if I didn't burden you and Daddy, then I'd be strong and you'd be proud of me."

Sighing in exasperation and holding her hand to her forehead, Kyoko concluded "…You are your father's daughter, alright." Her lips curving into a smile, Kyoko opened her arms and urged "Come here, Kiki. Come to Mommy."

Without hesitation, Kiki ran up to her mother, soon enveloped in Kyoko's arms as the young mother stood up, holding her so that the young Naegi was at eye level with her mother.

"Kiki, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. A few years ago, before you were even in Mommy's belly, your father had terrible nightmares. He would wake up night after night, screaming and crying just like you did, and Mommy would make all the bad dreams go away. Eventually, he decided to try handling his nightmares on his own, but it did nothing to help him and only drove Daddy and Mommy apart. Eventually, after some words of wisdom from Mommy and Baa-chan, Daddy realized that it was okay to come to Mommy for help, that he wasn't a burden, and that sharing his bad dreams didn't make him weak."

Makoto then approached the two, chiming in "Kiki, sometimes it takes more strength and courage to talk to someone about your feelings than it does to bottle them up. Your mother taught me that lesson, and I'm a stronger person for it."

Nodding, Kyoko continued "So Kiki, don't be afraid to come and wake us up if you have a bad dream again. You're not burdening us, and you don't have to prove your strength to us. We love you, Kiki, and we want you to be happy, okay?"

Smiling at last, Kiki nodded enthusiastically as she agreed "Okay Mommy. I'm sorry I did what I did."

Pecking the tip of her nose, Kyoko assured her "It's okay, Kiki. Besides…" Kyoko unwrapped one arm from around her daughter, holding her pinky in front of her as she continued "Mommy and Kiki…"

"…never keep secrets from each other!" Both Naegi girls finished simultaneously as Kiki wrapped her own pinky around her mother's in a pinky promise, giggling as Makoto watched with pride.

"Sorry I forgot, Mommy."

Smiling at her daughter, she released their pinky promise, ruffling her daughter's hair as she assured her "It's okay. Now, what do you say we have a pajama day? We can spend all day in our pajamas, have chocolate chip pancakes and whipped cream for breakfast, and there's this movie your father used to watch when he was a kid that he's been dying to show you ever since we named you."

"YAY! PAJAMA DAY!"

Makoto chuckled at seeing his daughter pump a fist in the air, suggesting "I'll go cook breakfast, then. Kyoko, you wanna grab the DVD and take Kiki to the living room?"

Nodding, Kyoko urged "Come on, Kiki."

Still carrying her daughter, Kyoko walked over to the living room, collecting a small ribbon from the bathroom on the way over. Once they got there, Kyoko started sifting through the DVDs until she picked up one that read "Kiki's Delivery Service." Inserting the DVD into the slot, they then walked over to the couch where Kyoko immediately plopped down on it.

With Kiki still in Kyoko's lap, leaning against Kyoko's chest, Kyoko gently grabbed a few strands of Kiki's brown hair, holding them together as she began to meticulously tie them together into a braid. Right as she was finished tying together the braid with the ribbon, Makoto came in with a huge tower of pancakes, three smaller plates underneath the large one that was holding the tower, a can of whipped cream, and three forks.

"YAY! PANCAKES!"

Chuckling, Makoto assembled the dishes and cutlery on the table. With his hands now free, Makoto took nine pancakes from the stack, dividing them equally between the three plates. He then quickly cut up the mini-stacks with one of the forks before covering them with whipped cream. Sitting down next to them, Kyoko adjusted Kiki so that she was now sitting on both of their laps. She then handed her daughter a plate before taking her own, giving both of them forks to eat with.

Smiling, Makoto took his own plate before reaching for the remote, pressing the play button to begin the movie as the Naegi trio began to munch on their breakfast, happy to begin their pajama day together.

Kyoko sighed with exasperation, feeling a sense of déjà vu as she sat between her husband and daughter on her bed. Currently lying down, their footie pajamas were unzipped to their torsos. Their bellies stood up, bloated with their belly buttons popped out from having eaten too many pancakes.

"Mooommmmyyyyy…I have a tummyache…"

Rubbing soothing circles around Kiki's popped belly button, Kyoko gently scolded "I warned you against eating half the tower, and now you know what happens when you don't listen to Mommy." You certainly are your father's daughter… "And you!" Makoto winced with guilt before groaning, Kyoko rubbing his own belly button with her free hand as she scolded more harshly "I thought you would have learned your lesson after the birthday curry!"

Groaning in pain, Makoto weakly defended "But they were sooo gooooodddd!"

Sighing, Kyoko gave a small smile, caressing their aching, stuffed tummies as the duo sighed in relief at her ministrations.

Well, at least it's an improvement over last night. I'll take having to deal with their hyperactive appetites over my daughter getting night terrors any day of the week.
