Shane twist and turns in his sleeping bag in the middle of the night. He is turning violently when he finally sits up in a sweat. He was having the nightmares again of when he was a just a child. It was around ten years ago now when Shane was taken away from his family to begin his training as a Spartan warrior. But, some of the things Shane went through. He just wished he could forget
After about five years into the training Shane was already out preforming every other child. This was noticed to by the officers in charge. So, he was pulled from his group and thrown into another that had even more brutal punishments and trainings. Throughout the night there were random beatings and anyone not fast enough to activate there aura fully would feel everything. Shane felt especially bad for those who didn't even have one too. He doesn't like to remember what happened to them
But Shane remembers one specific night, one that continues to haunt him. One day him and eleven other boys were pulled from his group and given knifes and robes to covers their faces. They were told if they did exactly as they were told they would be given a fire and food to eat tonight. So obviously the boys were all ears
They were told their was a new grimm that had infiltrated a village nearby and they looked exactly like the villagers so they had to be extremely vigilant. The grimm mainly stood out because they wore very poor clothing and lived in run down houses. To the boys it sounded easy enough, so they walked out into the night towards the nearby village
When they got their they decided it would be easier if hey all split up so they could hurry, deal with the grimm and get back for the food and fire. Shane got to a nearby a house that had a collapsed roof and a old wooden door. As he got near he readied his knife
He creeped into the house seeing three bodies laying on the ground all covered in some form of blanket. They all fit the description of the grimm so Shane's heartbeat picked up heavily but he told himself to calm down. His hands shaking from the cold weather, the grimm and the fact he was extremely exhausted. He neared the first body and spotted the creatures throat with his knife
It was fast and way easier Shane ever thought it could have been. The knife just slid across the throat like it was a hot knife through butter. What Shane didn't expect was that the creature started violently shaking causing the other two to stir in their sleep one of them looking up and the other reaching for what could Shane only make out as a lamp in the darkness
Shane rushed the next one pulling in the knife close to him for a steady and controlled stab. He aimed for the grimm's chest and with one quick motion the knife was in and the grimm looked down at Shane its mouth agape a gasp leaving it. Shane tugged the knife out and the grimm went limp and turned to the finale grimm but when he did a bright light blinded him. When his eyes adjusted the grimm screamed. Shane jumped back but to his surprise the grimm didn't attack but….. started crying
What? Shane looked at the grimm thinking this was some type of trap but when he looked at it he didn't see anything grimm like. What he saw was a small girl not much younger than he was when he was taken from his parents. The small girl ran too the grimm closest to him and grabbed it, hugging it. Shane couldn't make out what it was saying but from what he saw, the grimm seemed to be grieving over the grimms body. Shane remembering what the Spartan instructor told him grabbed the young grimm girl by her hair and lifted her up
It amazed Shane how well the grimm could blend into society. It looked almost exactly like a real person down to the finest detail. Shane lifted his knife to the grimms throat and with a quick motion did the same as the first. But, when Shane did so he dropped the grimm. Did…..did grimm bleed? Did grimm have red blood like him?
Shane looked around to the now fully lit up house and looked at the other two bodies. Red, thick blood surrounded both of them. Shane looked at his knife and hands now fully covered in the blood of the three he has slain. Before Shane could further examine the bodies, a loud scream could be heard from outside. Without a beat Shane rushed out and looked for the source
A fellow spartan sprinted past him and yelled that it was time to go, all of the others were done with their houses. So, Shane followed and the boys ran almost the whole way back. When they got back to their camp the Spartan instructor had them all line up and hand in their knifes. When he got to Shane, he took a quick look at his hands and knife and then snatched it from him without a second thought. When the instructor got to the end thought he yelled
One of the boys had come back clean, no blood on him or his knife. The boy tried defending himself saying he didn't have to use it but was cut off with a quick kick to the face. The other four instructors started quickly handing the knifes back out to them and told them to surround the boy. The main instructor held him up by the back of his robes and told them that we was no other than one of the grimm that they were send out to kill
The boy and friend they had once knew was dead and was replaced with this imposter that planned to kill them while they slept he told them. Now they had to kill him. As they all surrounded him the boy cried out to them yelling it was all lies, he started yelling out all of their names. When he said Shane's he hesitated for a moment but seeing as the others continued to incircle him he kept on.
The boy leapt out and grabbed onto Shane's leggings and out of muscle reflex Shane sent his knife flying out to meet him. Without a second going by all of the other boys joined in and ended the grimms life. When they were finished the instructors had them all line back up and explained why his body wasn't fading away to ash. This special type of grimm was known as in infiltrator and could look exactly like a normal person. One instructor grabbed his body and walked off.
Having now killed many grimm to this point in his life Shane continues to believe what he was told that day. Still believing that this special grimm he ran into was just extremely rare and not found that often. Most of the time he just tries his best to push this thought to the very back of his mind
By now Shane had walked out to the courtyard in front of the ballroom taking in the nights air and stars. He then looks up at the moon.
"Be damned this last name of mine"
As he whispered this to himself, he heard tiny footsteps approach him. He turned to see who it was he was surprised to see the girl Ruby of all people. She walked up with her arms crossed, trying her best to keep herself warm during the night.
"Hey Shane" she said groggily "what are you doing out here this late? I saw you getting up so and leaving in hurry. What wrong?" Ruby asked and a worrying manner
Shane looked at her and contemplated. She always seems to have a way to intervene with his life. He huffs and starts to walk back indoors
"It was nothing, don't worry about it" he starts to walk off but then Ruby reaches out and grabs his arm
"Hey Shane, I know we don't really know each other but if something is bothering you, you can tell me. If anything ill just listen"
It was only then when Ruby fully looked at Shane's arm seeing the scars scattered over it. Shane snatches his arm away and keeps walking over
"Worry about yourself, if you make it through tomorrow then you will be worthy of hearing my thoughts"
As Shane walks back into the ballroom Ruby follows and lays down in here sleeping bag.
The next couple of ours into the morning pass without anything of note. The first thing that catches Shane's eye is the blond girl seeing him change into his armor. Shane thinking he woke up well before everyone else would was taking his time changing out in the open. All she did was have a small blush and shoot him a wink.
After that the most annoying red haired girl walked over and stand over her partner and was shooting off rapid fire questions and scenarios than he or Shane couldn't be bothered to listen too. After packing all of his things without missing anything this time Shane followed some signs that lead him to a locker room to store his gear in. The locker itself was pretty unique. It paired up to his scroll and let him set a custom password. He places his bag in and only then does his stomach start to ruble.
Shane walks around for awhile finding more signs until he fines the dinning hall. By now most of the other students have woken and started their morning routine. Shane walks up to the serving line and his eyes widen at the wide array of food they have to offer. He has to admit this is very impressive. Shane ask for a huge omelet with loads of meat loaded into it. And some toast on the side. He then grabs two cups of orange juice and another two of milk he then sets all of this down and goes and grabs another four cups of water.
Some people walking by shoots him some weird glances but Shane was in a world of his own. To him he was basically sitting in the king's palace with anything you could want to eat. Don't get him wrong after his childhood Shane was able to eat more food to help him grow. But never to this amount. Shane was happily stuffing his face full of food and downing glass after glass of orange juice, milk and water.
After what was a very short amount of time Shane had cleaned his plate and stacked all of this cups onto it. He placed the tray on a nearby turn in spot and walked out. As he walked out the red headed girl and the boy she has been pestering walked in the girl still somehow talking. Shane somewhat felt sorry for him but then quickly moved on.
An alert appeared on his scrolling informing him that in an hour he should make his way toward the cliffs linked to the message. So Shane then headed back to the locker room to grab all of his gear and weapons.
As Shane made his way to the locker room he idled around for a bit looking through his scroll and trying to learn the layout of the school and the areas surrounding the cliffs he would be at. After spending some time doing that he found his way into the locker room where he yet again saw the girl in red Ruby.
Shane walked in seeing Ruby and her sister Yang talking while the boy Jaune walked in between them looking very worried and troubled glancing around at all the lockers. As Shane got to his locker two girls were having a conversation next to him. It was the Weiss girl and other. The other girl wore and dressed in armor almost like Shane himself. The girl now noticing Shane saw his gaze and avoided it now focusing on Jaune who walked right in between them at what seemed like a very poor attempt to flirt with the Weiss girl.
In the middle of this the Weiss girl now turned around and spotted Shane. Her eyes lit up alittle and she introduced herself
"Hello there, I am Weiss Schnee and who might you be?"
"Shane, can I ask what you need?"
"Well Shane, have you given any thought to whos team you would like to be on?"
Shane stopped for a second and thought to himself. He hadn't know that he would be put on a team. Well this complicated his plans to just cruise through this program. Now he would need to find others like himself that he could tolerate or if at the least just fight with.
"No I haven't"
Weiss now fully ignoring Jaune
"Well if I could, I'd like to invite you to join me and Pyrrha"
She said pointing to the girl standing behind her
"She is a renown champion having won the Mistral regional championship four years in a row and she graduated top of her class" now turning to Jaune "that's why she would just be held back if she was on a team with the likes of you" now turning back to Shane "So, what do you think?"
Shane looking at Pyrrha
"Mistral you say? Our people have a history together. Do you know about that?"
Pyrrha looking down
"And you snow angel, you're from Atlas if I remember correctly? Why would I want to form a team with the two people that's ancestors killed mine? I would rather form up on a team with Jaune here"
Pyrrha still looking around awkwardly and Weiss crossing her arms in a fit and Jaune just looking in between the three of them very confused
"Fine then so be it, if you want to let ancient history and a life long grudge keep you from succeeding in this school then fine" Weiss said as she turned her back to Shane
Jaune then continued to try and win Weiss over and convince her to be on his team saying that if he can he'll even save room for Pyrrha. When the boy got to close for Weiss's comfort Pyrrha threw a spear that formed out of her sword and impaled the boy through his jacket hoodie on a nearby locker while immediately apologizing
The two girls then walked off hearing and announcement telling all students to head to Beacon cliffs for the initiation
"Well then" Shane thought to himself "Its time to separate the week from the strong"
