Shane gathers with the other students and stands on the far right pad that is implanted into the ground. The others after chatting for a bit do the same and Jaune stands to the pad next to Shane. Ozpin and Ms Goodwitch brief the students on how they will be split up into teams by the first people they see and run into. The causes some great concern for Shane
He looks down the aisle of students and sees maybe only two people he would be okay with being on a team with. That being the Pyrrha girl and maybe Ruby. Ozpin ask if anyone has any questions and before the first student could even speak up, they are flung from the cliff and the pad being the thing to do so.
Shane looks down at his pad and smirks a bit. Meanwhile Jaune is fumbling with his words asking Opzin something. Shane has already envisioned on how he plans to stick his landing and with luck he wont break any of his arms.
Shane takes one last glance at the line of students seeing that the Yang girl was now the next person being shot into the distance. Shane then looks at Ms Goodwitch and she looks at him with a somewhat professional gaze. Shane couldn't resist. When he knew he was about to be flung he shot a quick wink and a smirk at her and before she could even react he was flying off the cliff hundreds of feet in the air.
Shane fully activated his armor having his helmet form over his head and activating his shield in his left arm. When he got close to the ground, he braced his arm as best as he could in mid air waited. The first thing he hit was a couple of trees drastically slowing him down and then without a beat the ground met him.
Shane tumbled a bit and then shot up to his feet spear in his right hand at the ready and his shield raised. After looking around for a bit and not seeing anyone he let his guard down. His shield collapsed back onto his arm but then his spear formed into a rifle of sorts. Shane didn't use the rifle function on his spear that much and neither did most of the spartan army but with the world around them mainly using firearms they knew they had to adapt someway.
Shane keeping his rifle at the low ready started into a jog threw the forest.
After a while not running into anyone or any grimm all of a sudden, the bushes infront of him parted and he couldn't believe who he saw. It was none other than the boy Cardin. The two locked eyes for a second and almost both had a silent agreement. Both of the boys both turned around and walked from were the both came from. Shane going into another jog
After a while he then came into a large clearing seeing two people already battle a group of grimm. It was the Ruby girl and Weiss. Shane had his spear re from and activated his shield. As he got closer thought a large line of fire shot out at him, so he quickly raised his shield to block it. After it passed, he lowered his shield and look at the Weiss girl. She saw that it had hit him and looked relieved that he managed to block it.
Right after that he saw the Ruby girl block an attack from a grimm and get thrown back into Weiss both shouting at each other. Shane not being able to stand their lack of combat prowess and teamwork decides to step in. He quickly dashed forward and kills the grimm that attacked Ruby and then threw his spear that was walking up behind both of the girls killing it too. He ran up and grabbed his spear looking at the two of them.
His action made the girls snap out of there bickering and made them realize that they are in the middle of a fight. They are now fully surrounded by grimm. But as they get ready to attack the fire Weiss shot at Shane starts to spread out of control causing a very large tree to fall right in front of Ruby just barely missing her. Weiss grabs Ruby arm
"We have to go" she shouts
"I agree, I don't like running from a fight but it wont be much of one if we just die in a fire" Shane says
The three of them take off into the wood line the grimm being unable to chase after them do to the raging fire. After running for a while and getting way away from the fire the three stop to catch their breath but not even after two huffs of air the Ruby girl starts shouting at Weiss.
"What was that?! That should have been easy!"
"Well perhaps if you would have exercised the slightest amount of caution with the placement of your strikes, I wouldn't have set the forest on fire!"
Ruby scoffs
"Whats that supposed to mean?"
"I'm just surprised with someone who talks so much, would communicate so little during an encounter"
"Well I'm sorry you need my help to win a fight, Im just fine on my own"
Shane now having enough of these two
"Hey! Both of you cut this shit out. We have who knows how many grimm in these woods surrounding us and here are the both of you arguing over a fight! Get over it and learn from it then move on. Let's get a move on before those grimm grow a brain and find us"
Shane starts off into the woods the both of them watching him go. Weiss says another thing a Ruby and walks off after Shane. Ruby can be heard then making a very frustrated sound followed by a tree falling. As the trio make their way through the woods they start fighting again.
"Look you two, unless a good idea is going to come out of one of your mouths on helping us on finding the other. Please just shut the hell up"
Shane said having reached his breaking point with the girls. Ruby then tapped his shoulder pointing at the top of a nearby tree. Shane looked a her for a bit but then smiled
"That is a terrible idea"
Ruby frowned
"But that doesn't mean I don't like it"
After a while of riding on the Nevermore the three spot a large clearing where Shane can see the others. He also sees the Pyrrha girl running from a Death Stalker. The first to jump from the Nevermore was Shane followed by Ruby. Shane lands in a tree close to the others and makes his way down to them
They all stare at him as he approaches brushing the leaves and limbs off of him like he is crazy. But when Ruby walks up and points at her saying
"It was actually her idea to do that" he says with a smirk
Ruby runs up and her and Yang have a small reunion before the girl Norah jumps in between them shouting her name. Shane then looks into the field watching Pyrrha getting chased by a Deathstalker with the black haired girl pointing this out. The last couple of minutes must have been stressful for Yang too because she finally loses it yelling at everyone to calm down. Shane gives her a look as she regains her composure as the then realizes it actually might be a good idea to help Pyrrha.
He disliked the girl, but if she proved to be a capable warrior he wouldn't mind putting up with her and being on the same team. As he activates his shield and spear along with his helmet Weiss can be seen finally falling down, with Jaune not so gracefully leaping out of a nearby tree to catch her, only proving to be a cushion for her.
The Deathstalker scores a hit on Pyrrha sending her flying towards the group with Shane side stepping to avoid being hit. Shortly after Ruby, although bravely but also foolishly, charges the Deathstalker head on. Her sister realizes this is a bad idea and calls out to her but makes no actual attempt to stop her foolish sister.
Ruby literally shoots by Shane using her scythe's gun mode to propel herself across the large open field towards the Deathstalker. While being just a blind charge with probably no real attack plan the Deathstalker quickly bats the girl to the side. Ruby now fully realizing how bad of an idea that was now starts to run away. Shane was already in a dead sprint to assist the girl and to keep her from getting herself killed. Yang was a right behind him
"You know, your sister is either extremely brave or just really stupid" Shane shouts back at Yang
"Hey, don't talk about my sister like that!"
Shane smirks
"I call it as I see them Yangy"
"What? That's not even a good nickname"
Now to make matters even worst the Nevermore that the three rode before is now chasing after Ruby. The Nevermore shoots giant feathers from its wings at the Ruby, Yang and Shane. As Ruby is running one of the feathers impales itself into her cape stopping her. Shane manages to deflect some feathers and keeps running while Yang gets stopped by them.
Shane's eyes widen. The Deathstalker's tail is rising up and is about to attack the defenseless Ruby and Yang sees this too desperately yelling at her sister to run. Shane runs as fast as he can to cover the ground. Ruby tugging at her cape trying her best to escape.
Shane just barley making it to Ruby in time and somehow Weiss too. In a split second Shane puts away his spear and yanks Ruby back out of the way raising up his shield and Weiss throws up a wall of ice stopping the Deathclaw's stinger inches from his shield.
Ruby looks up at the both of them and the both look back at her. Shane was going to speak but Weiss beat him to it speaking first
"You are so childish!"
"Weiss? Shane?" Ruby says almost not believing the too got there in time
"And dimwitted and hyper active and don't even get me started on your fighting style. But I suppose I can be a bit….difficult, but if were going to do this" she leans down to meet Ruby's gaze "were going to have to do this together" she says with a smile "so if you quite trying to show off ill be… nicer
Shane is almost taken back. From the girl he saw yesterday and earlier today Weiss has almost turned a new leaf.
"Im not trying to show off, I want you to know I can do this both of you"
"Listen Ruby, if you can keep that same bravery without the foolishness trust me you'll be fine"
They then all turn toward the Deathstalker trying to free its tail from Weiss's ice shield.
"But for now how about we kill some grimm huh?"
Ruby stands up to her sister running up and giving her a hug
"Im so happy you're okay!"
They then all look up to the Nevermore flying over head and head back to the rest of the group. Jaune then points up at it nervously
"Guys that thing is circling back. What do we do?"
"Look" Weiss says "there's no point in dilly dallying our objective is right in front of us" pointing to the structure in front of them with black and gold chess in it
"She's right" Ruby says "Our mission is to grab an artifact and make it back to the cliffs, there's no point in fighting these things"
"Run and live, that is an idea I can get behind" Jaune says
Shane shoots him a look
"So that sword and shield is just for show then huh, those grimm are sure to follow"
Jaune just shrugs and gives him a shit eating grin
Everyone walks over to the structure and grabs and artifact but when Shane does there is none left
"What the hell? Does anybody see another one on the ground somewhere?"
Everyone takes a quick look around but to no avail
"Whatever well sort it out later"
Ruby takes off with Jaune followed by the others heading up a nearby hill. Shane seeing everyone leaving begrudgingly follows knowing that it would be foolish to take on both beast by himself. They make it up the hill with another structure ahead that is in ruins. But almost to no surprise the Nevermore flies over head landing on a pillar in front of them blocking them from getting to the cliffs
"Well that's great" Yang says
Not soon after the Deathstalker comes charging through a nearby forest from behind. Jaune sees this and alerts the group. While this is happing the guy wearing a mostly green outfit shouts to his friend Norah to distract the Nevermore. As this is happing the rest of the group runs up further into the ruins as Norah turns her huge sledge hammer into a grenade launcher and starts firing at the Nevermore causing in to take off of the pillar clearing the way.
After emptying her launcher out the Deathstalker is already upon Norah about to attack her but both if the ninja like characters attack it stopping it in its tracks. Weiss then runs up to Norah and grabs her using a white glyph to propel them out of danger. Pyrrha, Jaune and Shane make it to a bridge where both Pyrrha and Shane both turn around at the same time turning their spears into rifles shooting a the Deathstalker covering Weiss, Norah and both of the ninjas to cross.
As soon as they pass Pyrrha turns her rifle in a sword and takes off. Shane on the other hand turns his into a spear and has his shield form out. Pyrrha shouts at him
"What are you doing?! We need to run!"
"You be damned don't worry about me, I know what I'm doing coward!"
As soon as that exchange is finished Shane jabs his spear at the Deathstalkers eyes hoping to get lucky while at the same time fending off its claws and tail with his shield. The claw on his right grabs his spear trying to jerk it away from him so Shane starts bashing it with his shield but to no avail.
"Fine you want it fucking have it!"
Shane lets go of his spear grabbing his sword at the same time jumping forward. Being this close there was no way Shane could miss his target. He slices and jabs at the many eyes of the Deathstalker damaging many. The grimm reals back and pain and lets out a awful screech dropping Shane's spear at the same time.
Shane looks back seeing that the others are now more then halfway across the bridge and decides his moment of fame is now over. He makes a silent vow to himself that out of everyone he is going to be the one to finish this thing off. So he quickly holsters his sword and snatches his spear up and starts running across the bridge.
But as soon as he starts the Nevermore comes out of nowhere smashing right into it barley missing everyone. Three people didn't make it across in time and dive back dodging the big bird. It was the two ninjas along with Pyrrha. Shane stops right in front of them almost falling off the bridge while at it.
He then turns around seeing the now and more pissed off Deathstalker waiting for them. The loose ruble of the bridge they stand on start to collapse causing them to either fall or go and fight the Deathstalker. Shane quickly grabs all three of them and practically throw them at the Deathstalker
"Now look where running away got you, right back to me" Shane joyfully jabs at Pyrrha in the heat of the battle
She ignores him fully focusing on fighting. While the four are going at it the ninja girl jumps to a strike from the Deathstalker but fails to do so getting hit hard getting sent flying back. Shane quickly reaches a hand out and grabs her keeping her from falling off the bridge. Shane then takes her spot in the line moving up in front of the other two back into close combat with the Deathstalker. Shane tries his best using the length of his spear to his advantage but with the grimm being so huge its almost impossible.
As Shane continues thrusting his spear at the grimm out of no where comes Jaune landing next to him and the Norah girl landing right in front of him ontop of the grimm landing a devastating blow with her hammer. She then jumps back dodging the grimm but at the same time throwing herself into Shane and the ninja girl throwing her off the bridge and Shane dangerously close to the side. Before Shane could even get himself right the grimm hits him off the side with its claw.
Shane now in a free fall franticly looks around for just something to either land on or grab. To his surprise the ninja girls comes swinging by him and he reaches out his hand toward her. Out of reflex she grabbed his hand bringing him along for the ride. As the swung the Nevermore came at them. Shane let go of the girl's hand and while mid air grabbed his sword and impaled it into the birds side.
As he crawled to the top of the bird he could hear the ninja girl doing some sort of damage to it but when he got there she was no where to be seen. Shane quickly looked around now seeing that she had jumped off onto some pillars. The bird now quickly turning around Shane took his spear out and stabbed it as deep as it could go into the bird to get some good leverage. When he looked up the bird was now flying at four girl standing on the pillars.
Before he could wave or try to make any sort of communication to Shane's absolute surprise they all started unloading into the grimm with him still on it. Shane quickly formed his shield and took cover blocking the occasional stray round. While it looked like the girls were trying their best not to shoot Shane some rounds still indeed did hit his shield.
The bird now enraged dove straight for the support pillars under the girls causing the whole thing to collapse. After that Shane closed his shield and with his left on his spear grabbing on he took his sword out and started stabbing in and all around him on the Nevermore.
While doing so stray round what looked like coming from Yang hit near Shane and another came close too actually hitting him. So as quickly as he starting he stopped stabbing the bird and had his shield back out. The bird now dived for her and Shane's eyes widen for what he saw next. The girl jumped at the birds mouth keeping it open while shooting more projectiles from her gauntlets into the birds mouth.
Shortly after that she jumped off landing onto a pillar and the bird went straight for the cliffs. Right before the bird hit the cliffs Shane jumped off and landed on some steps below. The bird falling right infront of him on its feet. The bird was in a mad rage now and let out a powerful screech.
In a split second Shane now saw all four girls. It looked like they were positioning themselves for something. Whatever it was Shane knew it had something to do with the bird. So he quickly ran up to its feet and grabbed one of them holding on. With all of his might Shane held onto the bird trying to keep it from taking off. When he flapped its wings thought Shane quickly activated his semblance.
Shane semblance allowed him to if he wanted tenfold his weight making him an almost unmovable object.
With that the bird was unable to take off and Weiss quickly came up and assisted Shane by freezing the rest of it to the steps. While the girls were getting ready doing gods know what Shane was holding this bird in spot for as long as he could straining every muscle in his body. But not after long the ice started to crack and the Nevermore was flapping its wings like its life depended on it.
Which it did
With the ice now breaking and the Nevermore's huge wings picking up so much wind Shane was almost at his breaking point. That and with his semblance causing massive strain on his body. Shane's grip started to fail and the bird now slipped from his grasp but as soon as it flew up Shane had another great feat to witness.
The Ruby girl was launched from a distance at the bird and caught it's neck with her scythe. Now with the combination of her shooting it to give herself propulsion and Weiss's glyphs she dragged the fucking bird up the whole cliff.
When she reached the top she finally managed to cut the damned things head off sending its lifeless body floating back down turning into ash along the way. Shane made his way back over to the other three girls.
"I have to say, your sister is absolutely stupid at times" cause all three of them to give him a nasty look "but gods be damned if I never would have been able to see that I would've died a bad death"
After making their way back up the cliff all three of the students made it back to the ball room greeted by some others who have finished early. Shane went and grabbed some waters. He handed one to Ruby and Weiss along with Yang but he stopped before the ninja girl
"I never had the chance to get your name"
She looked at him in thought for a second and then had a small smile
"Its Blake"
Shane handed her a water
"Well Blake, I have to thank you greatly for saving me back there" Shane now turning to the other four "and that brings me to this" Shane tosses the remaining water bottles at the feet of the others "what the absolute fucking madness was that" he said not yelling to not cause a scene but with his voice in a very intimidating tone
"You" he points at Norah "Fucking got me and Blake here flung off the bridge"
All eight of them stare at Shane and Ruby speaks up
"Hey Shane, I'm sure she's sorry it was probably an accident"
"Oh no, an accident was when Weiss hit me with her fire attack, that" letting the word linger "that was just absolute incomitance and complete disregard of others safety and well being"
"Hey man, she's sorry alright its over, we won, cant we just be happy that's over with now and we get our teams?" Jaune says now speaking up
"…fine, yeah its over" Shane says looking at the ground
Shane looks up at Ruby and everyone else
"I guess this schools has its screw ups"
He walks away going to grab another water for himself, and to separate himself from the group.
After a while everyone else makes and back and they all gather around a stage. Ozpin walks out onto it after a little bit and starts giving a speech. Shane toons him out looking for Ruby and the others seeing where they were standing. He found them up close to the front. As he starts making his way and he gets behind them Ozpin starting with creating the teams.
Now down to the finale nine people Shane has yet to be called out on the stage with anyone. Jaune, Pyrrha, Norah and he now learns Ren gets called onto the stage and made into a team to Shane surprise Jaune his made the leader.
Well okay he guess if the man wants him to get them all killed.
Now Ruby, Weiss, Yang and Blake get called to the stage and get made into a team.
Okay wow, that one caught him almost even more off guard
Well that was everyone and Shane was absolutely sure about it. Everyone had been made into a team except for him. He started thinking back to when he didn't grab a chess piece. That had to of been it!
That why he was called here in the first place!
Ozpin just wanted to have a spartan come up to his school and sabotage them into failing to for whatever reason embarrass his country. That bastard. But before Shane could get to far into his thoughts, he heard Ozpin speak.
"Now everyone I have something special to announce. For the first time in history the mysterious country of Sparta has reached out to me and offered me one of their top students. Shane Moon please come to the stage."
Shane wearily with all eyes on him begins to walk up to the stage. On the way he sees now the newly formed team RWBY all looking at with Ruby giving him a thumbs up.
"Mr Moon here will be a special case and will be assigned to the team I believe he had the best chemistry with down on the proving grounds" Shane gives him a curious look "From my best judgment that team would be team RWBY"
A small amount of respectable hand claps fill the room and Ozpin leans in and whispers into his ear
"Good work out there young man and congratulation on your team, make the best of it and don't start any trouble"
Shane was then ushered off the stage and walked down as Ozpin resumed his speech
Shane walked up to team RWBY with all eyes locked on him
"Well….That surprised me way more then it did any of you"
Ruby walked up and grabbed Shane's hand with both of hers violently shaking it
"Welcometoteamrwbyshaneomgnowwecanalldocoolstufflikethatagain!" she said in one long lasting breath
"Wow now settle down Ruby" Yang said as she walked up and grabbed her sister by the back of the collar "now tell him what you said clearly"
Ruby cleared her throat and said "I'm just happy we get to have you on our team Shane!"
Shane now looked at Weiss
"I guess we did work well together"
Then to Blake
"Just don't count on me swinging you around anymore"
And then to Yang
"I thought it was pretty cool how you held down that Nevermore! How'd you do it huh?"
Shane looked at all of them
"Look, can we just find our rooms and shower? I smell terrible and I'm sure you all do too"
He said as he pulled up his scroll and clicked on a new notification
"Look follow me I have it up on my scroll"
After a while of walking all five of them came up to a single door and Shane opened it up.
"Huh, four beds in a extremely cramped room. Doesn't exactly say number one huntsmen academy to me" Yang says sarcastically
As they enter it finally dwells on them
Four beds, four girls and one guy. As it seemed all of the girls figured this out at the same time Shane was already unloading his gear into a corner. He then only stopped to turn and look at them when Weiss made a coughing noise
"Umm hey Shane, realize anything wrong? Maybe weird or off about this?" she said
Shane turned and looked at all of them and a slight realization came across his face
"Your not one of those types that believe girls should shower first are you?" Shane said with a serious tone
The girls all looked baffled by his answer
"NO. How about with the fact you got paired in a room full of girls with only four bed?"
Shane stopped to think some more
"Well team JNPR might have an extra bed in their room if you ask, I don't plan on sleeping on the ground I don't know about you."
Now all of the girls just look at Shane like he was just insane. It was just then Weiss out of all of them remember something she had heard in school while growing up.
It was always fun for other kids in different countries to spread and say dumb things they hadn't known a thing about. Like how if you get caught lying enough your parents would send you to the moon with all of the other bad kids.
But this was something she was fairly sure was real.
"Umm Shane? You don't perhaps have mixed baths back home do you?"
Shane looked up as he was taking off his greaves
"Yeah why? Im sure the shower is just one person so you'll have to wait thought. Sorry not sorry"
A slow realization coming over the girls faces now. It wasn't exactly hard for them to forget Shane was from a different almost closed off country but also all of their customs were different too. Apparently there it was completely normal for men and women to workout and bath together.
As if on cue a knock could be heard at the door. When Blake walked up to answer it she was meet face to face with Ms Goodwitch
"Ladies, there was a slight mix up with the locations I sent to you to find your rooms. Huh Mr Moon?" she said as he was now taking off his boots
"Yes? Is something wrong?" he asked cluelessly
"Well yes Im going to have to ask you to pick up your stuff and follow me down the hall. There is a room although very smaller and used for guest on business, Mr Ozpin has told me to let you have it and live in for your time here"
Shane looked at her and then started to look around at the girls. After the bomb shell that went off in his head Shane started to heavily blush.
"Umm I huh…" Shane fumbled with his words
He then opted to just quickly grab all of his things in his arms and walk out. Shane having now stripped down to just his boxers. Who knows what would've happen if Miss Goodwitch would have been a beat later.
As he walked out all of the girls couldn't resist looking at Shane and Yang even let out a whistle as he walked out after Ms Goodwitch.
When Shane got to his room he dropped all of his things on the floor to tired to even care anymore. All he wanted was a shower and sleep and that's just what he did.
As he laid down looking up at the ceiling he wandered just what tomorrow was going to bring him and if it was going to be as crazy as today.
