Chapter 14
Lin was talking with the president of the United Republic, Pando Kun and Korra. "Mr. President, Avatar Korra, we have a situation that needs your attention now." She told the president.
Korra has changed a little since the day of Shu Hai's birth, she kept her hair short, wears mostly blue, looks more tired than she had in her teens and twenties, and is wearing a wedding ring on her ring finger. "What is it Chief?" Korra asked the chief.
"Kuvira's daughter has been kidnapped by a group of anti-Kuvira activists from the looks of it and have listed three demands for us to follow." Lin stated. "That the Avatar is to execute Kuvira, a ship for them to get out of United Republic territory, and Baatar Jr to be put in prison for the rest of his life."
"Has anyone in the Earth Republic know about the kidnapping?" The president asked.
"The ambassador and my sister were notified as soon as the crime scene was processed, and the witnesses were questioned." Lin answered.
The president sighed. "I hoped that we could keep it in our official channels."
"Excuse me." Korra exclaimed. "Where is this coming from."
The president raised his hand. "We could keep this as a normal missing children's case without extra attention to it."
"You're talking about my niece you know." Lin said with an intense glare.
"I know and I would ask that you recused yourself from the investigation and allowed the investigation to continue naturally." He stated.
"So, you would have an innocent child beaten to save your political career." Korra said astounded.
The president looked nervous at the irritated Avatar. "We are already have an international incident on the United Republic, I don't know how things could get worse." He exclaimed.
Suddenly an officer burst into Lin's office. "Avatar Korra, mr. President, chief we have a major problem."
"What is it?" Lin asked her officer.
"Kuvira escaped!" He shouted.
The three looked at the officer in shock. "WHAT!" They shouted.
"She had a piece of metal, somewhere but we don't know how she had it hidden for so long."
Korra took charge then. "Chief take us to the mountain prison, I think Zaheer might tell us what happened."
"Alright let's head out." Lin said.
After a long drive the three arrive at the prison. They enter the prison and a bunch of White Lotus sentries were investigating the scene and talking with the sentries that tried to stop her. They saw that the elevator was destroyed. Metal bent in a way that the cables were unusable. Lin used her cables to slowly climb down the elevator shaft while carrying the president on her back while Korra used airbending to slowly descend the shaft. When they reached the ground they looked around found a wooden cage with a hole on it big enough for Kuvira to comfortably walk out. While Lin and Pando went to the cage, Korra went to Zaheer who was meditating while levitating. "Hello Zaheer."
"Avatar Korra, it has been a long time since I last saw you." He greeted her. "Congratulations on the adoption of your daughter you and your wife must be happy."
"Yeah we are, wish I was with them but now with a kidnapping and a prison escape I am needed." She stated.
"You think I would know where Kuvira is going?" He asked her.
"Why would she escape after so long? She knows that if she did escape there would be no place to hide with the world knowing her face." Korra argued.
"The spirts in the spirt world told me that her daughter was kidnapped and where she was located, and I relayed to Kuvira." Zaheer told her. "It was quite the performance that Kuvira did to get out."
Flashback
Kuvira after being told that her daughter was taken had a look of deep concentration. She slowly bended a rod the length of her left forearm out of her forearm. After it left the forearm she painted deeply before she stood up before bending the metal into a sharp star. She then used her bending to spin the star in incredible speed before she cut the wooden bars so that she could escape. She ran to the elevator bending the two sentries guarding the elevator. She bended the elevator up towards the exit.
"So where is she heading?" Korra asked Zaheer.
"To a cabin South of Republic city." He told.
"Thanks." Korra thanked.
The three went to the elevator shaft. Lin sent her cables up and attached to the top and Korra propelled herself up with an air blast on the ground messing up the president and Lin's hair. When they got to the top Lin tapped Korra on the shoulder. "You think you can trust what Zaheer told you?" Lin asked apprehensively.
"It's our only lead so far and Zaheer may hate me but he does have a soft spot for children, so he probably wouldn't want Shu Hai hurt." She said.
Lin nodded in response. "I will have officers on the look out for Kuvira through out the outskirts and put an all points bulletin out for her."
"Wait…" The president started saying.
"Listen, Kuvira is so well known that if she is seen in public people will raise the alarm themselves and the press is going to have a field day that you kept it from the public." Korra explained to the president.
"Right." He said with a panicked look on his face.
In a back alley of Republic City, Kuvira was laying on a dumpster trying to catch her breath. Her bangs were covering her eyes and her noticeable mark covering. She closed her eyes, her bare feet touching the ground, allowing the power of sleep to take over.
