Chapter Twenty: Reunion

Minutes after she watched Mary Margaret and David leave down the street, Elsa moved away from the window and told a watchful Henry that she had something to do. Leaving him and a sleeping Neal at the loft, she quickly and quietly made her way back to the station.

Gliding through the chilly wind, her expression was passive, but her heart was muddled. If I hadn't showed up, she thought sadly. They would've caught onto Gold's schemes sooner...

Feeling guilty over having pulled their focus, Elsa approached the building and grabbed at the handle. Hesitating for a split second, she then yanked it open before walking into the main room, her resolve now firm and steady.

"Though Mary Margaret's words were harsh," Elsa immediately began, staring between the bars to look at the back of the entrapped blonde. "They weren't false. If you had left Emma alone and didn't trap her in that mirror, she may not have been in this deadly predicament. She could've been stronger..."

The Snow Queen didn't move but she didn't deny it either.

Taking a step closer to the cell, Elsa observed her, moving her eyes from her light hair down to her icy gown. "Who are you to me?" she then asked. This question has been plaguing her for many days and it was time that she had an answer to it. "I have the gnawing sensation that we have some history. I also feel that you may know where Anna is as well as to why my memories are gone..."

Allowing her words to sink in, she paused then clasped her hands in front of her. "Where is my sister?"

The Snow Queen suddenly stood up then turned to look at her before making her way over to the cell's bars. Leaning against them, she carefully considered Elsa's words, her eyes boring into the younger woman's. "I am your aunt," she announced evenly. "One of your mother's sisters."

Elsa's hands dropped down to her sides while her eyes widened in shock.

"There were three of us," the Snow Queen continued, now looking at the floor. "Your mother, our other sister and I. We were incredibly close until my magic grew too much for all of them to handle. One day, I accidentally killed one of them." She glanced back up to analyze Elsa's reaction. "For retribution, your mother put me in that urn, which is where I stayed for many years, until...I was finally set free. It was then that I discovered that I had two nieces; one blessed with extraordinary gifts, the other...simply ordinary..."

"You're my aunt," Elsa breathed, looking away in confusion. "And we met back in Arendelle?" When the other woman confirmed it with a nod, she pressed on. "If that's true, then why did you take my memories? Why keep this a secret? Why are you doing all of this?"

The Snow Queen's eyes never wavered from her niece's face. "Many things happened that I now regret," she began. "For instance, it was your sister who trapped you in that urn...but it was under my influence that she did so…"

"How?"

"Through the mirror and an old folklore..."

"What do you mean?" Elsa demanded, taking a step forward. "Explain yourself."

"There will be more time for my reasonings later," the Snow Queen redirected. "Right now, I must make things right." Pulling away from the bars, her gaze softened. "Injuring Emma and not protecting her properly, in her youth and when she was struck by the dagger, amongst other instances, made me realize how far I've strayed from good's path." She then paused under her weighty confession. "It's because of all of those things that I no longer want to curse the town for its magic or force the two of you to join me..."

Elsa blinked back her surprise but she wasn't entirely sure that she believed her.

"Now, it's your turn to tell me something," the Snow Queen then said, tilting her head in curiosity. "Why are you really here? What is it that you truly want?"

"What makes you believe that I want anything else from you?"

"It's been my experience that nobody wants something for nothing," she replied smoothly. "Or you can chalk it up to family intuition..."

Elsa considered her for a moment then exhaled deeply. "What I want should fit in nicely with your alleged rehabilitation." She took another step closer to the cell, her eyes suddenly intense. "You're going to make this right."

The Snow Queen raised a brow. "Tell me."

"We're both going to go after Gold by finding that magical urn; the one we were both trapped in," she said resolutely, having already thought about this. "We're going to threaten him with it and if we absolutely have to, we'll use it on him."

The Snow Queen gave her a skeptical look. "What if he doesn't agree to whatever terms we have?"

"We'll persuade him," Elsa said, eyes flashing. "Two ice witches are better than one."

"You are improving in both confidence and skill," the Snow Queen responded with a genuine smile. "I saw some of what you did to my fortress." After seeing her niece's expression brighten, she looked away, her mind going over Elsa's idea. "Despite the urn only being used on those with ice powers, it is meant to trap any magical individuals inside, which as you know, will render their powers completely useless until released. The problem we have now is the where. I don't know where the urn currently is..."

"I do. It's at a farmhouse."

"Well then," the Snow Queen said, nonchalantly. "It sounds like we have the beginnings of a plan; however, we do still have a problem." She glanced about her cell before tapping the bars loudly, silently indicating her entrapment.

Elsa nodded her head and went to go find the spare key before remembering that the prison had been magically enchanted.

Remembering what Regina had taught her earlier, she took a deep breath and lifted a hand up, her palms facing the cell. Feeling the protective energy, Elsa mentally tugged at it until she could see the physical barrier begin to chip and fall away, leaving behind nothing but sizzling and crackling friction upon its shattering.

Now grabbing the key from the sheriff's top desk drawer, Elsa went to unlock it. Pulling on the door, she watched the Snow Queen step out of her imprisonment then raise her hands up to reveal the enchanted cuffs. Biting her lip, Elsa stared at them warily before slowly reaching out and removing them, her gut clenching.

Her eyes continued to observe the other woman's demeanor and was somewhat surprised when the latter didn't betray her.

Stretching her fingers then rolling her wrists, the Snow Queen gave her a reassuring smile. "I'll say it again, you have definitely grown in your abilities, my dear."

"You can thank Regina for that," Elsa replied with a head nod. "She's the one who gave me the confidence, I needed, to unlock my abilities."

The Snow Queen's eyes then sparkled. "I'll be sure to remember that...but on that note. There's actually something I've been meaning to give you." Moving to stand beside Elsa, who stiffened slightly at her movements, she lifted a hand up then placed it on the back of her head. "Your memories..."

Just like she did with Emma, the Snow Queen allowed her magic to coat her entire hand, seeping her healing magic deep into Elsa's mind, restoring what she had taken.

Elsa's eyes blinked rapidly as foreign images spun before them.

She remembered everything now. Meeting her long lost aunt, learning magic and stories from her, her sister's bizarre behavior before she was trapped into the urn…

Everything.

She was telling the truth…

"When we get back to Arendelle," the Snow Queen began after dropping her hand away from Elsa. "I would like to make amends with Anna and the rest of the kingdom. I need to right my wrongs."

"I'm sure they would like that," Elsa replied, her eyes welling as her mind settled, effortlessly piecing together the missing parts of the puzzle.

"Now," the Snow Queen said softly. "Think of where we need to go."

Pocketing the enchanted cuffs into a section of her gown, Elsa nodded and thought about the farmhouse.

Placing a firm hand onto her niece's shoulder, the Snow Queen waved the other, summoning a light blue cloud to twirl around their feet before it spiraled upwards, encasing them in her magic before they followed Elsa's thoughts and disappeared.
