Blackthorne, Meet the Chameleon
A/N Don't kill me! I'm sorry I've been away for so long and not updated. I was just having a serious lack of inspiration. But I got an idea for the fifth chapter so I thought I'd hurry and write it up while it was still fresh in my mind. I apologize if it's not as good as previous chapters, but I just wanted to get it done so you guys would have another chapter to read. I hope you like it!
Chapter 5
It took me half a second to relax my face from that little shock and I couldn't help but give Zach my toothiest grin, I had to admit I was just a little impressed with him. So these boys must be very similar to us.
"Very good." I said, my smile still in place, I could feel myself start to become a little giddy with anticipation. This just got a whole lot more fun for us. We could use some strong adversaries.
Zach's POV
23:07
"Lower!" I yelled in a whisper up to Grant and Jonas as they lowered me down into the darkened room. We had waited until dark to break into the girls room. Hey! It's nothing creepy, we just need to know what these girls are all about. After that entrance I don't know how we can trust a single hair on their perfectly styled heads down to their designer heels.
"I said, LOWER!"
"SHUT UP!" Grant yelled in a whisper back to me. I grimaced in his general direction, though I doubt he could see my irritated expression in the pitch black.
I dropped onto the floor lightly and flipped the night vision goggles resting on my head onto my eyes. I looked around to get my bearings, there was complete silence except for a soft snoring sound coming from the bed in the back right corner.
I crept around the room without making a single sound. I planted recording devices anywhere and everywhere there was a good hiding place. I'd also brought the newest mini cameras on the market, plus M680 tracers and microphones to tape into their clothes.
I was done everything within two minutes and thirty-two seconds. Not my best time, but it would have to do.
I tugged on my wire twice to let Grant know I was ready to be pulled up. Just then there was a stirring from one of the beds, like someone turning over in their sleep. My eyes widened, but I had no time to be worried as I was yanked harshly back into the air by my safety line, and up into the vents once again.
"What took you so long!?" Grant asked "What was that, like three minutes? Pathetic."
I grimaced "two and a half actually."
He rolled his eyes "Whatever, let's get back and help Jonas."
The three of us crawled carefully back through the air duct that led to our room.
"Got it Jonas?"
"Yeah, we're all set up, see?" he turned his laptop to face us. On the screen I could roughly see the outline of four beds in the darkened room. The figures under the sheets occasionally moved slightly, snored, or swung their fists at an invisible enemy in their sleep.
"Okay, We should all take shifts watching them and-" Grant cut me off.
"Noooo, oh no way am I losing sleep watching a bunch of girls sleep. Jonas can record it and we'll watch it tomorrow. Last thing we want to do is get caught yawning in COW, (A/N Countries of the World class) Prof. Singh will make us recite the dozens of access levels of the FBI, CIA, whatever the hell it was! The point is- I ain't gonna do it! So go to sleep!"
Jonas and I looked at each other, then back at Grant. "Geez, calm down dude, it was just a suggestion."
Grant shrugged and hopped into bed, instantly falling asleep.
"He's the only guy I know that can fall asleep at his own will." Jonas said.
I smirked "No kidding. Looks like it's you and me then."
The Next Day
The next day at lunch we unfortunately were left with the only seats that were two tables away from the girls. We couldn't hear a word, until Jonas started smiling in a kind of creepy way and pointed to his watch.
I frowned "Wha-?"
He sighed and pressed a button on his watch, instantly, quiet voices could be heard coming from the speaker.
"Do you think they suspect?" came the voice of Rebecca, or rather Bex Baxter.
"Oh please, they couldn't solve a rubix cube." I glared at the watch when I heard this; I recognized the voice of Cameron Morgan.
"Well according to my calculations they have a good chance of discovering what we have planned. After all, they don't attend this school for nothing." This was Liz Stutton.
"Sure sure, but I still have to agree with Cammie" this voice belonged to Macey McHenry, the senator's daughter. "I mean, have you seen their footwork? They can't even land a good roundhouse. I saw Grant's 'attempt' in P&E this morning," a giggle followed this bit of information "he wiped out."
Grant growled slightly. "Did not. The sun was in my eyes, does she want me to block out the sun!? I can do that!" crossed his arms over his chest like a small child having a temper tantrum.
I raised my eyebrow at him "training was inside today."
He waved me off "semantics."
Another snicker came from Jonas's watch speaker and Cammie spoke again, "Zach and Jonas weren't much better. Did you see Zach swing and miss and then nearly fall over? It was like they were dead on their feet, I saw those eye bags. Gotta wonder what those boys are staying up all night for, don't you think? You think it could have something to do with little ol' us?" Her voice practically dripped with false innocence.
"I don't think they'll find out what we're doing. Let's just let them think we're stupid, innocent little girls and they'll never find out a thing. We'll get in and then get out of this school before they find out who we really are." Bex said
"You're right," Cammie agreed "So the plan is still the same for tonight right?"
"You mean the breaking and entering? Or in our case, carefully deactivating the system and entering. Yeah."
"Oh! You mean-?" Liz began
"Yup, the headmaster will have all the information we need."
Jonas gasped as he pressed the same button on his watch again and the talking stopped.
We sat quietly for a moment before all three of us got up abruptly from the dining table and saying loudly in unison "WE GOTTA DO SOMETHING!"
Everyone stopped eating to stare at us. Now that was a mistake.
"Um…we gotta do something about this…uh.."
"-MEATLOAF!" Jonas finished
"Yeah! Right the- Meatloaf?" I lowered my voice "Really?"
He shrugged.
I cleared my throat "Yes, this meatloaf has a serious lack of protein, and as growing spies I say we deserve quality food that doesn't damage our digestive tracks! Furthermore-" I was cut off as a door slammed open and our chef, François, stormed out.
"Vat is zis!? You do not vant to eat ma food no more!? You ungrateful brat!" he spat "You vill pay for your insolence!" he produced a butchers knife out of nowhere and flung it at me. It hit the wall behind my head and- well let's just say I did a lot of running that day, and I don't mean for exercise purposes. More the running for my life from a murderous French chef kind.
Cammie's POV
"You think they bought it?" Bex asked
I grinned "Definitely."
A/N And there ya have it! Hope it wasn't too much of a disappointment to you guys! Don't worry, I guarantee the next one to be better! And longer! I think I'll keep switching it up to the guy's POV just to get their perspective every once in a while and get a little insight into their minds.
