I Finally able to take a breathe of air after Rapunzel practically took his breathe away, theoretically, and physically. Her eyes still wet from left over tears, seemed brighter, greener, and richer than ever before. I couldn't get enough of her dramatic, now shorter hair, she somehow made it work.
Pulling away, giggling at herself, she reached for a piece of golden hair that was now gone. The realization in her eyes, broke my heart.
"It's going to take some getting used to", I thought.
Now that's an understatement. Her entire life, even the infant portrayed in the town square mural dawned long locks, unnatural to a newborn. I couldn't begin to imagine this drastic change.
At this I felt sheepish for cutting it so short.
"What's so funny?" A curios Rapunzel voice asked.
"Sorry, hanging onto life by a thread, didn't give me time to calculate the cutting position of your hair." I said mockingly.
"Eugene, what am I to do with you?" Rapunzel sighed.
Picking ourselves up, we both knew what had to be done. Rapunzel was going home.
*
Looking towards the entry on the floor, I still hardly couldn't believe all my life, the entrance was right there. How could I have known, but... At least now I'm finally leaving this prison. The hair around the tower, made me the strangle it's caused me my entire life. A part of me felt sorry to leave it all, that it was all gone, another part didn't know what to do really. Should I be glad, should I be sad?
"Hey, sunshine?" Eugene said.
Feeling his hand grab mine, we both made our way to the hidden staircase, beneath the floor.
"Pascale?" I called.
The little guy sounded, made himself appear before me and Euegene, picking him up, we were ready to go.
I didn't even want to look back, as I started my way down, every step was easier, and lighter. The entrance, was so simple, looking about, I could see the rocks, and waterfall. Looking up at my tower, one last time, it was nothing more than a shadow of sorts. A shadow of a life that once was mine, now gone.
Coming around the tower, I could see by Maximus's expression, my new hairstyle was not what he was expecting. Walking up to give him a hug, I felt my foot press against a familiar cloth.
Looking down, I saw mother's cape. Suddenly out of breath, feeling all of a sudden anxious, Euegen took me in for a hug.
"It's okay Blondie." He said.
He held me close until we reached the otherside of the cave that lead us back into the world.
Situating ourselves, we road Maximus back to the Corona.
Fast as lighting, we made our way. It was so fast, we were already back in Corona.
A piece of my heart ached at this realization. I knew we weren't far, but not this close.
We were just at the edge of the trees before meeting the main road, and the bridge.
Upon the bridge soilders came towards us, pulling out their bows, crying Ryder! As they approached, they surrounded us, including Maximus.
"You're all under arrest!" One of the soilders cried.
"Wait! Hold your fire, I am the Lost Princess!" I cried.
Everyone froze, I looked to Eugene who was standing next to me with his hands up. He looked just as surprised as them.
Looking up to the guard on his horse, clearly the leader, I stood my ground. He looked like he was about to laugh, but his look turned into a look of surprise, and a bit of fear.
"You're the Lost Princess?" He asked.
"Yes, I am, Flynn Ryder has rescued me, and is under my protection. I won't allow you to arrest him." I said. Trying not to sound as timid as I felt.
Again everyone was silent, Eugene was still looking at me with surprise and awe. Turning to Maximus, he too was shocked.
Looking back at the captain, I announced that he lead us to my parents. Getting on Maximus, gesturing to Eugene, he sat right behind me on the saddle.
All the other guards showed expression of amazement, wonder, confusion, and disbelief. Making our way through the city, we quickly shuffled towards the castle. It was huge!
Granted we saw it, yesterday, but we never got this close. The captain of the guards got off his horse and prompted us to fallow. I quickly noticed Maximus wasn't joining us.
He smiled as he watched us, head towards the steps. Lowering his head towards me, like he was saying he had faith, in us. In a respective way, I guess.
Reaching the top, the guard lead us to the middle of the terrance. He order another guard to tell the King and Queen.
At that my heart started to beat so fast.
"What if they don't like me?" I whispered.
"They will", Euegen said assuredly. Taking my hand, we smiled, turning to face the palace courtyard, we both started pondering to ourselves.
"What does this mean? Will I be what they expect?
What if they don't believe me, because my hair isn't long and blond anymore?"
Looking back to the mural, I remember the Queen had the same emerald eyes like me, and she did seem to resemble me, or rather I resembled her. But mother or... the woman that took me always hated how I mumbled, or that I was too slow, I was a simpleton, no matter what I did I couldn't seem to do right, only when using my hair did she ever seem pleased.
The sound of doors opening behind us, interrupted my thoughts. Turning around to face who was coming, two figures stood at the entry way. A man and a woman. My parents. My mother.
Stepping out into the light, I could see plain as day she was my mother. She and I had the same eyes, we looked much alike. Her expression was the same as I was thinking.
Coming closer, I didn't know what to do, I could only watch her come closer. She than put out her hand as she took notice of my hair. Looking to me she smiled as tears welled in her eyes, I couldn't help but do the same. Wasting no time I was wrapped in my mother's arms, holding each other close, not daring to let go.
Looking up from behind her, my father was looking at me, also with tears in his eyes. Coming in, joining our embrace, we subsided to the floor, holding each other close.
"I'm home", I thought to myself. "I'm home with my family."
Feeling another join in, I didn't have to guess who, Euegen too joined our group hug.
*
Feeling the embrace weaken, Rapunzel and her parents started to get to know each other, as the captain of the guards appeared, stating what Rapunzel said earlier. That I saved her from the tower.
Her parents didn't seem to care I was a wanted theif, for now they were just glad to have their daughter back.
"Your magesties, what should we do with the criminals in prison?" The captain asked.
It than dawned on me. "Oh!" Looking to Rapunzel I started to explain. "Maximus knew you were in danger, so he broke protocol, and got them to save me, so I could save you".
Rapunzel only smiled, and asked her parents to pardon them, and me. The criminal, roughions were freed, and turned over a new leaf, as well as yours truly.
A celebration was called for, the palace stirred, every maid, and servant each hopped to catch a glimpse of the Lost Princess, while I was understandably watched to be sure I behaved myself. Rapunzel spent the entire day talking and getting to know her parents.
Watching her as we dined with the King Queen, I could see she was everything anyone could hope for. She was Princess worth waiting for.
