A/N: Hey guys this is my very first crossover that I am publishing. I do not own Rizzoli and Isles or the X-Files. I'm playing with them because there are no crossovers between the two and I think that's kind of sad. Keep in mind that I've never seen the X-Files - though I've heard a lot about them from my friend - so I apologize if I offend anyone who is a fan of the X-Files. This is set in the later seasons of both shows (about midway through season 4 for Rizzoli and Isles and about season 9 for the X-Files). Thanks for reading!
Chapter One
Jane sat at her desk, working on her computer. She fought with a particularly annoying strand of hair blocking her vision as she tried to get everything in order for a trial that was coming up for Korsak. Lucky for her, she didn't have to go to the courthouse - just Korsak.
Suddenly, her phone rang. She looked at it, and seeing that it was Korsak, she picked up.
"Hey Korsak, what's up?" Jane asked.
"We have a scene, and apparently the idiots that are supposed to let us know about a scene lost your number again. They also lost Frost's. Can you let him know and meet me downstairs in five?"
"I think it's going to take longer than five to get Frost out of his seat," Jane said, glaring at her partner. She could hear the new space video game he had gotten for his birthday on his computer. Since she knew Frost, she knew it was going to take a couple of minutes to drag him downstairs.
Korsak chuckled. "Just tell him that I got his favorite chocolates again."
Jane smiled. "Will do." She closed her phone and walked over to Frost's desk. "Hey Frost, we gotta go," she told him.
Frost looked up. "But I finally finished installing the game," he whined.
"Yeah, well, Korsak says he got those chocolates you like. In fact, he says he'll give some to you if we're down in five minutes." Frost's eyes grew wide. Man, Korsak was good. Why didn't Jane think of it?
She didn't have much time to ponder it. Frost grabbed his coat lightning-quick and was pulling on her hand as soon as the first sentence of her thought was done. It wasn't a long sentence, either. Honestly. Frost may have been a full-grown man, but he still acted like a child at times.
At a stoplight on the way to the scene, Frost asked Korsak, "So, can you give us a basic idea of the scene, Korsak?"
Korsak turned to Frost, whose face was covered in chocolate and caramel. Jane laughed at their expressions and tossed a tissue back to Frost. "Wipe your face of the chocolate," Jane ordered, laughing. Frost obeyed quickly.
Once he was finished, Frost asked again, "Do we know anything about the scene?"
Jane could clearly see Korsak rolling his eyes from the driver's seat. "I know a little bit." Then he got quiet.
Frost asked, "What is it?"
Jane looked at Korsak, suddenly concerned. "Do we want to know?" she asked worriedly.
Korsak sighed. "All I know is that there are two FBI agents there."
Frost's eyes widened. Jane let out a sigh of exasperation. "Do we know which agents?" she asked.
"I've never heard of them, but according to one of my friends in Maryland, they're bad luck," Korsak said. "Supposedly nothing good comes from a visit from them."
"I wonder why that is," Jane wondered aloud.
Special Agent Dana Scully stepped out of the crappy rental car after what seemed like forever. "Where are we again?" she asked her partner, Special Agent Fox Mulder.
"We are in Boston, Massachusetts," Mulder told her.
"Right," Scully said. "And why are we here?"
"There's been some suspicious activity in Boston. Apparently there have been people going missing who are staying at this hotel. Boston Police just found the first body a half an hour ago." While Mulder was talking, Scully stretched her legs. Why did Mulder get to drive? She was going to drive later. No amount of Mulder giving her the puppy dog look was going to get him back in the driver's seat. "There were reports of screams on the fourth floor earlier today. Somebody called the BPD, and then we got sent out here. Or at least, that's what I got from my conversation with Skinner."
Scully tuned Mulder's ramblings about ghosts that can kill out. She had just noticed a familiar-seeming Toyota Prius pull up at the parking lot. However, Scully couldn't place where she knew the car from until she saw the driver get out.
The driver was in her mid thirties. Her yellow dress contrasted the dullness of the cars around her greatly. The woman's purse was large and brown, and her long, curly blonde hair bounced on her shoulders.
Scully recognized the woman immediately. "Maura Isles," she muttered under her breath. "Damn it, how is that woman here?"
Mulder looked up. "Who?" he asked.
Scully glared at him. "Nothing," she said, trying to force her loathing down.
"Now, now, what's got you all worked up?" Mulder asked her. Scully looked over where Maura was standing. There were now three other people there - a tall brunette woman, an older gentleman, and a young African American man who apparently couldn't stop eating chocolate.
Scully turned back to Mulder to complain that of course Maura had to be with the BPD and not some other agency somewhere far away, but Mulder was looking past her at the police officers and the pathologist that was making Scully tremble with anger.
"Oh, look! Detective Korsak's with them!" Mulder exclaimed happily. Scully looked over. Yes. That was him. How Scully didn't notice him before was a bit worrying to her, but then again, she had been mostly focusing on Maura and not so much on the others.
Scully and Mulder watched Maura, Korsak, and the other two. Eventually the brunette woman noticed them and let out a small sound of annoyance (which Scully could hear just fine, thanks a lot). Then the woman said something to her colleagues, and the others turned. Scully could see Maura go bright red. Yeah. This wasn't going to end well in the slightest.
The brunette started walking over, her unruly hair bouncing on her shoulders. Scully could sense Mulder straightening next to her, and she straightened as well, bracing herself for the BPD detectives.
Korsak moved to the front of the BPD group as the four approached. "Hey, Scully! Hi, Mulder!" Korsak said, trying to force a smile onto his face. Scully tried to smile, but it came out more as a grimace. "Sorry we're late. Traffic and all," Korsak apologized.
"No need to apologize," Mulder said, genuinely smiling. Or, at least, that's how it appeared. Mulder's shoulders had relaxed, and he seemed more happy. However, Scully knew that beneath, Mulder was probably seething.
The brunette cleared her throat. "Um, introductions?" she asked, forcing a smile.
"Right. Sorry," Korsak said, smiling. "Guys, this is Special Agents Scully and Mulder." When Korsak said her name, Scully forced a smile. On the contrary, when Korsak said Mulder's name, Mulder smiled and waved. The young African American man waved back. Maura just glared at Scully. Scully decided that she would ignore it… for the moment.
"Scully and Mulder, these are my co-workers - Detective Jane Rizzoli" the brunette said "Hi," and Scully nodded her head - "Detective Barrold Frost-"
"Just call me Frost," the African American man smiled. Scully and Mulder nodded.
"-and-" Korsak started, but Scully cut him off.
"Maura," Scully said, gritting her teeth.
Maura glared at Scully. Scully glared back. Korsak muttered, "Oh, so you two already know each other. Splendid."
Jane was between Scully and Maura in a heartbeat. The brunette detective glared at Scully, a glare that nobody else's glare had matched - or would ever match, for that matter.
Mulder cleared his throat. Everybody's attention turned to him, with the exception of Jane. Scully could feel the detective's eyes burning in the back of her skull. This wasn't going to go well, that's for sure.
"Anyways," Mulder said, gesturing to the hotel. "We should probably head up."
