So by this point the story has already entered the "Shatter me stage" and is set at the same time as the chapter when (spoilers for Shatter me and Ignite me I guess) Juliette is in the simulation chamber. Alice is angry that Warner spends all his time with Juliette, talking about Juliette and thinking about Juliette, and is basically a jealous little sister. She is also still afraid of Juliette, much like everyone else on base.

Delalieu, sweet cinnamon-bun, is trying to figure out what is making Alice so upset.

Delalieu hadn't had such a quiet lunch for a long time.

Pale blue eyes had been aimed at their plate for the whole duration of the lunch. She had her chin resting against her hand with her elbow on the table; fork unenthusiastically picking at her food. He had tried starting conversation but her only mean of communication had consisted of hums, nods and shrugs.

Something very out of character for the girl.

"A-Alice dear?", he asked after another long silence.

She looked up from her plate.

"Is something the matter?", he wondered.

Either he was seeing things, or she just got an angry crease between her eyes.

"No", she replied. Then immediately looking down again.

Thirty five years of marriage had taught him that that was a lie.

He carefully put down his utensils and shifted a little in his seat. He interlocked his hand in front of him on the tabletop to try and look confident.

"Now that's not true, is it?", he said.

She looked up with her eyebrows slightly raised in question.

"D-does it have anything to do with our new guest?", he asked very carefully.

The glare she sent him was almost enough to make him give up completely. Almost.

"Alice, is this about Ms Ferrars?", he prompted.

She shifted her glare to the side. Avoiding his gaze. But her scowl remained as solid as before.

"Alice", he repeated in a more serious tone.

She uttered an airy groan before returning her attention to him once more.

"What?!", she huffed.

He was taken aback by her attitude. He had never seen her like this!

"Could you please tell me what's made you so upset, darling?", he said.

I wanted some more dialogue between here to build up Alice's anger, but whatever

"No one told me she was going to be so pretty…"

"Huh?"

"She", she spat.

"Oh…"

He couldn't deny that Ms Ferrars had a certain… merit concerning her appearance. It did not help that the chief commander kept dressing her up in the finest clothing he could find. She left soldiers gawking after her whenever she passed by. Not that she seemed to be aware of it.

"W-well darling I do think Warner has better judgement than that…", he tried reassuring.

"Do you really think that?", she countered and crossed her arms.

"Jasper, he doesn't talk about anything else! He doesn't think about anything else! He can't take his eyes of her! It's like he's-"

Just then there was a loud boom, almost like an explosion, and the building shook as if the whole foundation moved.

Alice uttered a scream and Delalieu sprung up from the table. Silverware clattered to the floor. The drinking glasses rang out from the vibrations. Their chairs jumped as if possessed. But his attention was on the chandelier; swinging violently back and forth. By the looks of it it would drop from the ceiling any moment. Which left him wondering what state the rest of the building was in.

"Under the table!", he yelled over the shaking. Alice obeyed and soon enough the two of them were crouching underneath the table with their knees pulled up to their chins. His arm wrapped around her hard. They could hear the plates bounce around above their heads, so hard it was remarkable that they didn't break. The pitch of water crashed to the floor and soaked the rug underneath them, but he couldn't care less about his slacks. All he could think about was the girl in his arms.

It was over in less than thirty seconds, but it was none the less terrifying.

And just as the low rumble quieted down the door flew open.

"Are you okay!?", someone asked.

Delalieu looked out from underneath the table. It was one of the soldiers. Looking up at the ceiling he saw that the chandelier still swung back and forth alarmingly hard, but the building was at least still now.

Were they okay?

He shifted is attention to Alice. She was holding her hands over her ears and had her eyes shut tight. Now when the shaking had stopped he noticed that she was trembling in fear. He reached in and stroked her over the hair and said:

"It's over now darling."

Slowly she opened her eyes, and they found his. They were filled with tears.

He got out from under the table to give her more room, but before he could even get up she had thrown herself at him. Burying her face against his chest. Clinging onto him for her dear life.

"Jasper…!", she whimpered.

Then her shoulders started shaking in sobs.

He put his arm around her and subtly rocked them both back and forth. But even if he wanted nothing more than to comfort her he still had other responsibilities.

He turned to the soldier.

"W-what on earth was that?!"

The soldier shook his head.

"We don't know, sir. It was powerful, but we know it wasn't an earthquake."

The lieutenant's eyes widened. If it wasn't an earthquake-

"How can you tell?"

"It was limited to the west side of the building, sir. We think it was something in the basement. There's already men on the way there", he assured when he saw the lieutenant pale.

Alice's head suddenly jerked up.

"The basement?", she asked.

She looked to Delalieu. A moment of confusion passed between them; Delalieu more confused than her. Then he saw how something drastically dawned upon her.

"Warner's down there!", she gasped.

The panic that alight in her eyes made his own heart race.

"He's down there…! He was going to try something with her in the simulation room, Jasper! He's down there with-with her!", she grew more and more frantic the more she talked.

"Alice, dear, I'm sure they're b-both fine…!", Delalieu tried calming her down, but it didn't seem to work.

Suddenly she had scrambled out of his arms and was stumbling towards the door.

"A-alice…?!", Delalieu called out, bewildered and concerned at the same time. But it did not stop her. Before the lieutenant had even gotten off the floor Alice had disappeared out the door. The soldier tried blocking her path with his arm, but she merely ducked underneath it.

"Alice!", Delalieu called after her. But the only thing he saw when he reached the door was her blonde hair disappearing around the corner.

Warner POV

There was rubble everywhere. Parts of the destroyed wall. Broken pieces of glass. And a thick layer of concrete dust hanging in the air; thick enough so that it was hard to see the end of the hallway.

It had been magnificent.

Her fury. The purity. So powerful. So… (he had to take a moment to find the right words) incredible!

Juliette had already been already escorted away. Now all he had to do was to think of how to word his report on the destruction of the simulation room.

Soldiers had started showing up in the already crowded corridor to look at the spectacle. The first batch had shown up ready to deal with an intruder, but the situation had been cleared up rather quickly. Sort of. They just kept coming.

"Move along gentlemen", he declared over the noise of conversations.

"It's just a broken wall, return to your posts!"

He was meet by a shuffle towards the nearest exit and an exaggerated groan of disappointment from Kishimoto.

"Warner?", someone called out further down the hall. Though not a solider. A girl.

He quickly turned his head, but realized to his disappointment that the voice was too young. Which made him confused.

"Alice?", he asked.

He watched as she pushed past, or, more like squeezed between the soldiers standing in the way.

"What are you doing here?", he asked her as she came up to him. Her breath in a light pant. As if she had been running there.

She opened her mouth to answer, but then she saw the wall inside the simulation room. Or, the remains of it.

Her eyes went as large as plates.

She skipped to the side like a worried horse, taking cover behind him. As if the hole in the wall could hurt her.

"The wall…", she whispered.

"Ah, yes...", he remarked as if he was just noticing it now. Cocking his head to look at it.

"She really is strong, isn't she?", he continued.

He felt her go stiff behind him.

"She did that?"

"Yes, I'm afraid she lost her temper."

"How?", she whispered.

"How?"

"How did she break the wall?", she clarified.

He shrugged.

"I don't really know", he confessed.

He felt her move closer to him. Felt her hand grip the fabric of his suit jacket.

Her breath hitched in a wheeze.

The commander snapped out of his admiration long enough to pick up on this. Hearing her wheeze again he remembered the fact that the air was thick with dust; and how Alice and dust did not go together.

"Alice?", he asked.

"Huh?"

"How are you feeling?", he wondered.

"I… I…", she started, but she couldn't get the words out. She just kept gasping for air.

"Do you have the respirator?", he asked. She was supposed to carry it with her.

She shook her head.

"You need to get out of here", he promptly decided, and started ushering her towards the doorway by pushing gently at her shoulder. Looking over her head to see if the exit was clear enough so that he didn't have to make physical contact with the other soldiers to get out.

And then Warner tries to usher Alice out of there, but she gets mad at him again and runs off. Or something. Warner is annoyed at Alice for acting irrational. Alice keeps being mad at Warner for liking Juliette.
