Ch 4
Cody watched as Jimmy got ready for his run. He watched as Noah walked into the barn. He motioned to Jesse. Jesse followed him into the bunkhouse.
"What did you find out?" Asked Cody.
"Well Noah is scared of snakes. I got that straight from him."
"And Jimmy?"
"I was talking with Lou about people being scared and she said that Jimmy is scared of spiders."
"Interesting."
"How are you gonna use that?"
"I plan on making their worst fears come true. I'll teach them to mess with William F. Cody. And you're gonna help me. This is what I need you to do."
Jimmy swung up on his horse and met Lou as she was riding in. He took the pouch and rode off. Lou saw Jesse walking towards the woods with a brown sack in his hand. Kid met her by the barn.
"How was it?" He asked.
"Dusty. Too dusty. We need some rain."
Cody walked in as they were both brushing Lightning down.
"Hey Cody, how are things with Pam?" Asked Lou.
"Not too good. It seems things just go the wrong way whenever I'm with her. I doubt that she will ever go out with me again."
"Something else happen?" Asked Kid.
Cody looked at him along with Lou.
"How did you know that something happened?"
"Um, Noah was eating in town that night. He told me."
"That's right. I forgot that he was. Yeah something else happened." Cody picked up an old jar and walked out.
Lou turned on Kid.
"You better not have had anything to do with whatever happened."
"What?
"You got a secret Kid. I can tell."
Kid looked at his feet. He wasn't supposed to tell. He looked around to make sure they were alone.
"Jimmy and Noah just wanted to get Cody back for all the times they had to cover for him. He's been fooling everyone into doing his chores."
"What did they do?" Huffed Lou.
"Jimmy switched out Cody's perfume for Pam with horse pee." Kid started laughing.
Lou glared at him.
"That's just nasty. I told y'all to stop meddling with each other's love lives! What is wrong with y'all?!"
"Lou, I only knew about this. I swear don't get mad at me, I didn't do it."
"Kid, you still knew about it and didn't say nothing!"
"Lou, please, you can't say anything. They'll know I told you."
Louise looked at her horse and sighed.
"Alright."
"Thanks Lou."
"You realize that if Cody finds out, then he will get even."
"I hope not."
"You know how he is. He'll get even but it will be over the top like always. I just hope they don't take it too far and someone gets hurt."
"It ain't like that. It's been harmless fooling. That's all."
"You better pray it stays that way."
