The day before St. Patrick's Day and everyone is mad about everything that has been happening all week. Word has gotten around that the picnic and parade that was scheduled for the following day has been canceled. Simon O'Brien is a happy little camper because he has ruined St. Patrick's Day for the Town of Walnut Grove. Grace Ingalls is sitting under a tree in the field behind her house, crying Patrick 'O Malley sees her and says, "Grace it will be ok. I have a plan to get folks spirits back up and to have that picnic."
Grace gives a little smile and wipes her eyes and says, "Oh, 'O Malley you do!?"
"Yes I do. Come with me."
Mr. Garvey has come over to the Ingalls' place for a little visit when Jonathan sees Charles at the pond outside of his house just sitting there looking over the water. Jonathan walks over to him and asks, "Charles is everything ok?"
Charles answers, "It could be worse but it seems like everything is falling apart with strange things happening all week and no explanation for it."
Jonathan answers, "Yes, I know what you mean."
Grace and Patrick 'O Malley are standing a little behind Charles and Jonathan but they don't notice them. Grace says to 'O Malley, "See how sad my Pa is can you help him and my friend Jonathan Garvey?"
Just then Charles and Jonathan looked down at the grass beside them and out of nowhere they both see 2 four leaf clovers and Mr. Inglalls says with a little smile, "We never had clovers here before, maybe it's a sign of good luck coming!"
Mr. Garvey jumps up and says, "Charles I believe you're right!" Jonathan and Charles put the four leaf clovers into their pockets as Jonathan says, "I need to be getting home."
Charles replies, "I will give you a ride."
As Charles and Jonathan get on the wagon to go back into Town Patrick 'O Malley jumps into Grace's pocket and Grace asks her Pa, "Pa, can I go with you?"
Charles answers, "Sure sweetie."
While driving into Town they see Nels Olsen fishing at the lake and they go over to say, Hello to him. Nels has a whole stack of fish and says, "Charles and Jonathan, look I have never caught this much fish at one time before and as I was fishing I found this four leaf clover. I believe it gave me luck."
Charles and Jonathan both says, "We also found a four leaf clover."
They all have smiles as Charles says to Nels, Let me help you get these fish home."
They all continue into Town and they pass the Wilder's house and Charles says, "I would like to stop for a moment and see my daughter, Laura."
As Charles pulls up to the porch, Laura, Almanzo and Jenny are sitting on the porch with Laura is holding baby Rose. Charles says to them, "It is a beautiful day to be outside."
Laura answers, "Yes, Pa it is and earlier we were taking a walk out back to release some stress from the past week and sit down in the grass for a bit and we all found four leaf clovers this morning."
Charles asks, "Really? Jonathan, Nels and I also found four leaf clovers."
Almanzo then says, ''It looks like our luck is changing. What would you all say to having our picnic and parade tomorrow afternoon?"
They all agree.
Grace has a smile on her face as she pats her pocket that Patrick 'O Malley is in and says, "You did it!"
All the folks of Walnut Grove in someway have found four leaf clovers all over Town and word has gotten around that the picnic and parade is back on for tomorrow afternoon.
Charles takes Nels and Jonathan home and then Grace and Charles head home and have their supper. Charles tells his family that they will be having the St. Patrick's Day celebration
Meanwhile Simon O'Brien not knowing what is going on is happy and giggling "Heee, Haaa, Heee, Haaa, no parade, no picnic Heee, Haaa, Heee, Haaa!"
The Ingalls family are now in bed Grace is laying in her bed with Patrick O'Malley with her and he says, "See we did it!" Then Grace falls asleep with a smile.
How will Simon 'O Brien react when he sees the Town of Walnut Grove having fun and enjoying St. Patrick's Day?
