Ch 7
Jimmy found Noah sitting alone at the bunkhouse table the following afternoon. He sat across from him.
"You were right. He knows."
"I told you."
"What are we gonna do about it?"
"I ain't gonna do nothing. Cody goes over the top with his shit. He put a snake in there with me. I'm out. I'm done."
"Come on Noah, you gonna pussy out."
"Hell yes. It. Was. A. Snake."
Jimmy shook his head and walked away.
"Hey Jimmy. It would be wise for you to let it go as well."
Jimmy walked out of the bunkhouse. Noah went back to his cards. Jimmy went to stand next to the barn. He watched Cody walk around the back of the bunkhouse. He had another thing coming if he thought he was gonna get him with a spider again. He watched Cody walk back around and go inside. He stepped away from the barn. He knew Cody was going into town later. Maybe he should go too.
Cody went in to change his shirt before going into town. Lou walked in.
"You still going to town in a few?" She asked.
"Yeah, planning on it. You want to come?"
"I think I will. Kid's gonna ride also. Noah, you coming?"
"Naw, think I'll pass this time. I been working with that new horse all day and I'm tired."
"Suit yourself but I plan on letting loose tonight." Smiled Cody at Lou.
"This wouldn't have anything to do with the ladies social meeting going on in town tonight?"
"Is that tonight? I didn't realize."
"Uh huh. Well me and Kid are gonna get a bite to eat then probably head on back."
"As for me, I plan on grabbing a bite and if I happen to bump into anyone in particular then so be it." Smiled Cody.
Lou laughed and looked over as Jimmy walked back in. Cody smirked in his direction. Jimmy glared as he walked over to his bunk.
"Want to come Jimmy?" Asked Lou.
"I don't know. I might."
"Aw, come on. Ya ain't got nothing else to do."
"You should go, Buck's going since Ike is out on a run." Said Noah.
"Come and eat with us. It'll be good to get out." Said Lou.
"Alright, I'll go." Smiled Jimmy.
Cody grunted and went back to finish getting ready. The riders mounted up and left shortly after. They laughed on the short ride into town. As they got closer, Jimmy saw all the young ladies starting to file out the meeting house onto the boardwalks. He smiled. He knew the ladies social meeting was tonight. They rode past and tied their horses in front of the jail. Cody went to swing from his saddle. He stepped down and tied his horse. He saw Pam and her friends standing nearby so he walked over smiling. Lou watched him go. She stopped and stood still. The entire back of his pants was dark brown.
"Cody!" She yelled trying to get his attention but he ignored her.
Cody walked right up into the middle of the ladies. One started whispering to another and soon the whole lot of them were giggling. Pam looked around furious trying to figure what was going on. One of her friends walked up next to Cody.
"Mr. Cody, you seem to have had an accident that you are unaware of." She said loudly. All the girls started laughing again.
"Excuse me?" Asked Cody
"There seems to be some sort of stain on your backside. I'm not even going to say what it looks like." She said giggling.
Cody spun around trying to look over his shoulder. Jimmy saw him and walked away smiling toward the saloon. Cody backed away from the girls over to Lou who had her hand over her mouth.
"Lou, tell me."
"Cody, it looks like you crapped your pants. There's something all over them."
Cody stood in horror as all the ladies walked past him heading home. Pam shook her head at him. Cody stomped back to his horse and put his hand on his saddle. It was damp. He looked at his hand. It was brown. Lou and Kid walked over.
"What's wrong?" Asked Lou.
"Nothing. I see how it's gonna be." Cody said as he swung up in the saddle and headed back toward the station.
Lou spun on her heel to face Kid.
"I told you."
"Told me what?"
"That this is gonna get out of hand."
