Tracking Charms

Draco was not worried. He wasn't.

Okay, so maybe he was a little bit worried.

Harry had been due home a couple of hours ago. It wasn't that he was never late, but he was usually considerate enough to send his stag home to alert Draco of the delay.

Staring into the fire, Draco tried to convince himself that he wasn't worried. Harry was fine, obviously, he'd just gotten caught up at the Ministry or something. It happened, he was an Auror.

Maybe he was stuck doing paperwork and hadn't noticed the time.

Harry was an oblivious idiot sometimes. Draco thought that that was something that should make him angry, but it didn't—although it sometimes made him angry that things like that didn't make him angry.

He never said that he was logical, okay?

He picked up a book and quickly put it down. Distraction wasn't going to work.

Draco considered firecalling the Ministry, but he was hesitant to do so. He didn't want to make himself—or Harry—look like a fool for checking up on him.

He knew he could send his patronus, but again, would it just make him look like a possessive boyfriend?

Surely Weasley would have let him know if anything had happened?

Sure, he and Ron weren't exactly bosom buddies, but they got on okay, for Harry's sake.

Draco slumped in his seat, rubbing a hand through his hair. This was ridiculous! Harry was a grown man and he could take care of himself!

Draco really shouldn't be worrying so much. Harry would undoubtedly walk through the front door, either full of apologies, or wondering what the hell was up with Draco.

He willed it to happen, and yet, the flat they shared remained painfully silent.

Draco's worry only grew at the time ticked by, two hours turning to three, and then four.

Finally, Draco stood from his seat, throwing away his doubts of checking up on Harry. He was a step away from the fireplace, his hand hovering over the floo powder jar, when the front door opened.

Draco spun around, ready to let rip a tide of anger at his boyfriend, when he caught sight of the expression on Harry's face.

"What's wrong?"

Harry didn't reply. He just walked straight towards Draco, not stopping until his arms were around his waist, his head pressing into Draco's shoulder. Draco's arms automatically raised to wrap around Harry's shoulder, one hand cradling his head.

"Harry?"

"Sorry I'm late," the brunet murmured, his voice choked. "I know I should have contacted you."

Draco guided Harry to the sofa and lowered them to sit down, keeping his arms around him. "Can you tell me what happened?" he asked, concern evident in his tone.

Harry swallowed hard, but nodded, pulling back a little. One of his hands clutched at Draco's shirt, even as they seperated.

"A little girl got caught in an explosion in a potion lab," Harry said quietly. "We were the first on the scene, and she…" he shook his head.

"You were at Saint Mungo's with her?" Draco asked, inwardly cursing himself for his anger at Harry. He'd known, hadn't he, that Harry wouldn't just not contact him unless it was important?

Harry nodded. "She's going to be okay. It was touch and go for a while though, and her dad was in another room and I couldn't just leave her alone. She was so tiny in the bed, Dray."

Draco pulled Harry close once more. "She's okay, Harry. You saved her, you got her to the hospital on time, right? And she's going to be okay."

Harry nodded again, slumping against Draco. "I didn't mean to worry you though, I am sorry about that."

"Pft, I wasn't worried," Draco replied. "I didn't even notice the time."

"Liar."

Draco snorted. He couldn't really deny it, after all. "I'll run you a bath, and we'll eat and go to bed, okay?"

"You don't need to look after me," Harry mumbled. "I'm okay, Dray. It's just… been a day."

Draco rolled his eyes. "Let me pamper you, you dumbass. You know I'm going to demand it back on the weekend anyway."

That drew a laugh from his boyfriend and Draco inwardly preened. Despite his plans, Draco remained on the sofa for a few more minutes, stroking a hand through Harry's hair.

Before he got up, he pressed a kiss to Harry's forehead, and asked, "How do you feel about tracking charms on your shoes?"

The laugh he got in return told him Harry wasn't taking him seriously.

He'd work on that later.
