Ch 8

Cody met with Jesse in town the next day. He had been racking his brain trying to come up with some sort of retribution for his embarrassment.

"What you gonna do Cody?"

"I ain't got nothin. I been thinking so hard and I got nothing. It's got to be something good. Something that he can't come back from."

"What you mean by that?"

"You know, he won't try to get me back. It needs to be something big and embarrassing for him. Then he'll admit defeat and let it go."

"Another spider maybe?"

"No, no. He'll be looking for that."

"What then?"

"I ain't sure but I'll let you know."

Jimmy saw Cody talking with Jesse. So he had a little spy helping him. Jimmy backed away so they wouldn't see him. He's trying to plan something against me. I'm gonna get him again first.

Cody had now given up the idea of courting Pam. He was in full revenge mode. He walked around the station trying to think of a plan. Teaspoon walked over and stopped him to talk.

"Cody, there's some chores that are on your to do list. I don't see much to doing going on."

"I'm gonna get them done in a few. I promise."

Just as Teaspoon was about to lay into him, he heard a yell from behind the barn. Teaspoon and Cody ran over to see. Jimmy was leaning against the barn holding his arm.

"Jimmy! You ok, son? What happened?"

"I was chopping wood and I had a pain run down my arm. Now it feels numb."

"Ya must have pulled something. Come on over to Rachel's and let it rest. Cody finish up that there wood."

Cody looked at Hickok who winked at him as he walked by. Cody grumbled and picked up the axe. He had to think of something. Jimmy wasn't going to beat him at his own game.

Cody came half stumbling into the bunkhouse that afternoon washed down in sweat. Noah and Buck looked up.

"My, my, Cody. You decided to get some work done today for once I see." Said Noah.

"I just had to do mine and Jimmy's. I'm exhausted."

"Thanks for covering for me. I don't know how long this is gonna keep me down." Said Jimmy who was laying on his bunk.

"Hope it gets to feelin better soon. If not, Cody will have take your run." Said Buck as he and Noah walked outside.

Cody walked over to stand next to Jimmy.

"I see what you're doing. I know you're faking."

"You calling me a liar."

"You think you are gonna beat me at my own game, I don't think so."

"Well, I think your game just got a new player. What do ya think bout that?"

"It's on Hickok. You better watch yourself."

"Bring it, Cody. Watch yourself as well."

Cody stormed out to wash up while Jimmy smiled, laying back down on his bunk.
