1. Agony

It happened in an instant. Roxanne woke from a dead sleep, drenched in sweat and burning from the inside out. Agony thrummed through her body like an electric current, back arched over violet, turn-tossed sheets as thick, gold vapor trailed in angry wisps from her skin.
It came too quickly to think, and was too painful to do anything but scream in silent terror.
Then she collapsed, gasping a broken sob of bewilderment into her pillow.
And as she lay there, shaking in the sudden chill of her dark, empty bed room, all she could hear was a familiar voice; an echoing reminder of yesterday's foray into Evil's lair.
"You were right. That was exciting."
