Chapter Twenty Six: Back To Classes

The first day of classes dawned far too soon for most of the students, Hermione however was bouncing with excitement as she exited the Gryffindor portrait to find Draco, Blaise and Theo leaning against the wall opposite, each waiting for their girlfriend to emerge from the lion's den.

"Draco what are you doing here?" Hermione asked surprised.

"I came to walk my girlfriend down to breakfast" Draco replied with a smirk as he approached her.

"That's sweet, but why?" Hermione smiled as she took his hand and gave him a quick kiss.

"Classes start today, I won't be able to spend as much time with you now" Draco shrugged.

"How come?" Hermione frowned. Draco chuckled at Hermione's uncharacteristic confusion.

"Mia, we don't share a lot of the same classes for one, secondly we sit at different tables to eat meals, thirdly the Quidditch season begins soon so a lot of my free time will be spent with team practice, and last but not least, you are bound to spend a fair chunk of your spare time in the library studying" Draco replied. Hermione blushed at the truth of Draco's reply then shot a glare at Blaise and Theo when they chuckled. Both were saved from the snappy retort she was about to say when the portrait opened and their girlfriends stepped out. Each greeted their respective beau and together the six of them started to make their way to the great hall for breakfast.

"Why oh why does the Christmas break have to be so short?" Ginny groaned as she snuggled under Blaise's arm.

"It's the way things work Gin" Blaise stated with a smirk at his girlfriend.

"It's not fair! At least Hermione and Lavender get to see Draco and Theo in classes, I on the other hand don't since I'm in a different year"

"Luna will have the same problem with Harry, and we don't share that many classes with them Ginny" Hermione pointed out.

"Besides Ginny, you will get to see Blaise when you practice or play Quidditch, Hermione and I won't as we don't play" Lavender pointed out.

"As Draco just pointed out to Hermione before you arrived, between his Quidditch commitments and Hermione's study habits, the two of them will see less of each other than the rest of us" Blaise stated.

"Would everyone please stop talking about my study habits as if it's a waste of time, school is important" Hermione huffed.

"Ah but your father told me to try to keep you out of your books as much as I can Mia" Draco teased.

"Good luck with that Draco" Ginny snorted. Causing the others to laugh.

"I'm not that bad" Hermione stated "Am I?" she asked Draco sheepishly.

"Hopefully not now you won't be, but in the past…Yes" Draco replied with a chuckle as they arrived at the great hall doors. Each Slytherin walked their Gryffindor to her table, kissed her, then left to sit at their own table.

"I really wish that you would keep the kissy faces to a minimum at the table, I nearly lost my appetite" Ron grouched as Hermione sat opposite him.

"It would take a lot more than that for you to ignore food Ronald" Ginny stated waspishly. She was sick of her brother making snide remarks at her relationship. Ron scowled but turned back to his plate without speaking.

"You're here early Ron" Hermione stated, changing the subject quickly.

"Blame Harry, he dragged me out of bed early because he wanted to see Luna before breakfast" Ron grumbled.

"Well you never would have gotten up on your own and would have been late" Hermione pointed out.

"I don't see why he wanted to see Luna before breakfast, he could have seen her during it" Ron protested, refusing to acknowledge that Hermione was right.

"We have just had this discussion, it's because now that classes have started again and Quidditch season is about to begin, his time with Luna is going to be reduced" Hermione stated.

"Hmmph, never thought I would say this, but I feel sorry for Malfoy then. Between Quidditch and your studying, he's never going to see you" Ron stated as he shoveled bacon into his mouth. Hermione glared at Ginny when she heard her stifle her giggle.

"I'm not that bad!" she stated.

"Yes you are" Ron and Ginny stated together, much to the amusement of their fellow Gryffindors who had heard their conversation.

True to predictions, Hermione indeed spent most of her free time studying. Draco barely saw his Gryffindor girlfriend, though knowing her reflexes with a wand, he was reluctant to disturb her.

It was in the middle of the third week when he finally had enough. Upon entering the great hall for dinner he noticed that Hermione was once again not at the table.

"Oh for Merlin's sake. This is the third time this week" He exclaimed as he noticed the brunette's absence. Blaise who had walked into the hall with him turned to the blond.

"What is?" he asked.

"This is the third time this week that Mia has skipped a meal, its only Wednesday" Draco replied in frustration.

"You know what she's like mate" Blaise stated.

"If it was seventh year I would be less surprised because of N.E.W.T.S. but not this year" Draco sighed.

"Well there's not much you can do about it" Blaise pointed out.

"Oh yes I can… Hey Ginny!" Draco called out to Blaise's girlfriend who was already seated at the Gryffindor table.

"Yeah Draco?" Ginny asked.

"Library again?" he queried. Ginny knowing immediately that he was confirming Hermione's whereabouts nodded.

"Of course"

"Do me a favor will you? Make her up a plate so that it's sitting ready for her when she comes down" Draco asked.

"Draco, she won't be coming down, if Hermione is not here by now that means she wont be" Ginny pointed out.

"Oh yes she will" Draco retorted before handing his bag to Blaise and heading out the door in the direction of the library.

When he arrived, Draco glanced at Madam Pince and quirked an inquiring eyebrow.

"Where is she?" he asked quietly. The usually stern faced librarian smiled slightly and pointed in the direction of the table where the Gryffindor Princess usually studied.

"Miss Granger is currently at her favorite table Mr Malfoy, I hope you will have better luck than I have had in the past in getting her to stop skipping meals" she replied lowly.

"Thankyou, I intend to try, and I apologize now if my methods cause a disturbance, I have a feeling that I may have to resort to unusual means to accomplish my mission" Draco smirked.

"Apology accepted Mr Malfoy, good luck" the librarian nodded at the blonde as he returned the gesture and headed in the direction that Madam Pince had indicated.

Hermione was sitting at her favorite table in the library fully engrossed in the research she was doing for her charms essay, her stomach growled slightly but she ignored it as she continued to write on the scroll of parchment. Just as she finished writing a paragraph her quill slipped out of her hands and her books began closing themselves.

"What the…?" Hermione gasped as she stared gobsmacked, watching her parchment roll itself up and her belongings beginning to pack themselves away in her bag.

"What in Merlin's name is going on?" she exclaimed to herself as she attempted to stop her charms textbook from placing itself in her bag. Her attempts were unsuccessful and Hermione scowled as her bag closed of its own accord and began to levitate in the air. It hung there for a moment but as soon as she went to grab it, it flew away from her. Twisting in her seat she watched as her bag flew into a pale hand, only to be slung over the shoulder of her blonde haired boyfriend.

"Draco! What are you doing? Give me back my things!" Hermione demanded as Draco returned his wand to his pocket and stood there with a slight smirk on his face.

"Mia, it's time for dinner" he stated

"I have an essay for Charms to finish, I don't have time to stop, besides, I'm really not hungry" Hermione retorted as she sat there scowling at her boyfriend. Unfortunately her stomach chose that moment to growl loudly and Draco's smirk widened as he heard it.

"Your stomach says otherwise" he commented with a quirk of his head to the side.

"Draco! Just give me back my bag. Honestly I really do have to finish this essay" Hermione stated.

"It's not due for another two weeks Mia, you need to eat, this is the third meal this week that you have skipped" Draco pointed out.

"It is not" Hermione argued.

"Sure is, lunch Monday, Dinner Tuesday and Dinner again tonight" Draco retorted.

"Give me my bag Draco" Hermione demanded again.

"No, you're coming down to dinner" Draco replied firmly.

"I have work to do, now just give me back my bag" Hermione huffed as she stood up. Draco sighed and moved towards her, Hermione, thinking that he had given in smirked in smug victory and held her hand out for him to pass her the strap. Just as he reached her Draco let a full blown Slytherin smirk appear on his face.

"You asked for it Mia" he stated before he grabbed her hand and using it as leverage pulled her towards him, bent down and slung Hermione over his shoulder in a fireman's hold. Hermione shrieked in surprise when she suddenly found herself slung over Draco's shoulder and facing his nicely shaped behind.

"DRACO! Put me down!" she growled.

"No" Draco replied firmly as he began to make his way out of the library.

"Draco I mean it! Put me down" Hermione snapped as she began to kick her legs in an attempt to escape. She stiffened affronted when his hand came down on her backside gently in a soft whack.

"Stop struggling" Draco commanded as he reached the front of the library.

"Dra.." Hermione began warningly, but Draco cut her off as he passed the librarian's desk.

"Thankyou Madam Pince, sorry for the noise" he acknowledged the old matron. Hermione gasped and glanced up at the woman in embarrassment. Her eyes narrowed when she noticed the amused glint in the matron's eyes and the way that the stern faced woman was trying to force back a laugh and smile.

Ginny sat at the Gryffindor table laughing at something that Harry had just told them when a shriek from the hallway caught everyone's attention.

"Draco put me down!" Hermione's voice sounded out through the open doors.

"I think not Mia" came Draco's reply.

"Oh no! Draco don't you dare even think about walking into the great hall with me dangling like a sack of potatoes" came Hermione's exclamation.

"Too late" Draco's retort made several students laugh.

"No!" came a shriek in Hermione's voice, followed by a loud swatting sound.

"Hey" Hermione's indignant squawk sounded.

"Then watch where you're kicking your feet woman" Draco retorted.

"What's going on out there?" Ginny asked an amused Harry and a confused Ron.

"If he's got her the way I think he does, then Mione's going to be very embarrassed in a few moments" Harry chuckled. Ginny's brow furrowed in confusion, only to rise nearly to her hairline as Draco and Hermione finally came through the doors, Hermione slung over Draco's shoulder. Ginny giggled when she noticed that Hermione did indeed look like a sack of potatoes hanging like she was.

"Oh, this is so embarrassing" Hermione moaned, covering her face with her hands as Draco made his way to the Gryffindor table.

"Then you should have come with me when I asked you to Mia, next time maybe you will think twice before skipping a meal" Draco responded with a grin.

"I was finishing off an essay" Hermione defended herself.

"That's not due for two weeks Mia" Draco retorted as he reached the table. He deposited Hermione onto the bench next to Ginny then smirked down at his girlfriend.

"If you even think of leaving this seat before you eat a full meal, I'll put a sticking charm on your behind to make sure you can't" He threatened as he bent down and gave Hermione a quick kiss before turning on his heel and making his way to the Slytherin table where a laughing Blaise and Theo waited for him.

Hermione scowled and threw an angry look at her boyfriend before turning and picking up her fork. She was about to skewer a carrot when she heard a muffled sound from in front of her. Glancing up she saw Harry with his hands clapped over his mouth and tears of mirth threatening to fall from his eyes.

"Not one word Harry Potter! I mean it! Not one word!" she snapped brandishing her fork at him like a weapon. That was it, Harry couldn't contain himself and his peal of laughter could be heard as he removed his hands and allowed his amusement to go free. Hermione flushed in embarrassment and dropped her head, aggressively attacking her food while mumbling under her breath about men and small minds.
