*And here is my last installment to this Delena story that I do not own (wanted to end it on a good note after all the pain and suffering they went through).
June 22nd, 1977
Stefan wasn't sure about coming to NewYork. Too many people and too much temptation, but Lexi had insisted that he come. She had mailed him a week ago with a short note, a date, and an address.
Get here, you're not going to believe this.
So here he was, on the 8th floor of a building in a neighborhood he'd never been to. Even if he hadn't been given an apartment number, it was easy enough to find given the loud rock music coming from one of them. A solid knock to the door and it opened a second later to the sight of his brother, who he hadn't seen in over 30 years. Stefan hadn't been sure what to expect, but a big grin and Damon grabbing him by the back of the neck to usher him into the apartment was not it.
"You're just in time, little brother. If you hadn't made it today, I would have kicked your ass."
He was going to say something, likely something cutting about being late or showing up considering that Damon had never shown up at the train platform in New Orleans, but that was quickly cut off when Lexi practically hopped over to him and gave him a hug.
"Just wait, you're not going to believe this!" Lexi smiled as she handed him a shot and returned to the kitchen area.
Still a bit confused, Stefan looked around the loft apartment. It was an open space with a pool table on one side of the room, a dart board a few feet away, and a mish-mash of furniture and card tables around the room. There was a small kitchen with an island in the middle and a couple of doors to one side that likely lead to the bedroom and bathroom.
Lexi was currently at the island lining up shots of whiskey. There was another vampire next to her, cracking jokes as he snagged the bottle from her hand and took a large drink before she could steal it back. When he looked over, he gave him a lopsided grin.
"You must be the brother, Stefan. Lorenzo St. John, but my mates call me Enzo," he said as he stuck out his hand to Stefan.
He had a brief hesitation before taking the other vampire's hand and giving it a firm shake. "And how did you come to meet my brother?"
Stefan noticed Enzo give a slight glance over to Damon, and though no words were exchanged, he could see that Damon wanted him to keep quiet. "Let's just say we went through hell and back together and leave it at that."
Deciding that he didn't want to press the issue, he gave Enzo a nod and downed his shot before going to the kitchen to get another. It was an easy conversation for the most part, but Stefan noticed that the others seemed to be waiting for something and none of them were going to tell him what that was exactly.
It was about twenty minutes after he arrived that the door was kicked open by a slight figure; her arms full of food and a voice that made his body freeze up in surprise. The woman was wearing a leather jacket, an AC/DC concert T-shirt that had been cut off to show her flat stomach, faded blue jeans, and combat boots. "I've got burgers. I've got fries. I've got egg rolls and shrimp fried rice. And best of all, I've got a sausage and pepperoni pizza the size of a table. Who's hungry?"
Enzo and Lexi cheered as they went to free her arms while Damon wrapped her in his arms and gave her a searing kiss. Stefan continued to stare as he stood by the island, unsure if what he was seeing was real. "Katherine?"
The woman in question hummed in surprise as she broke the kiss with his brother and looked at him. Her eyes examined him for a moment before looking back at Damon, who gave her a smirk and wiggled his eyebrows at her.
"Is that Stefan?" When Damon's grin turned into a smile, she let out an excited cry, jumped over to him and wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug that had Stefan stumbling back a step in surprise. "Oh my gosh! It's so great to finally meet you! Damon's told me so much about you." She released him from her hug, only to take his hand in both of hers. "My name's Elena. And before you say anything; no, I'm not Katherine. Yes, I know that I look exactly like her. Now that that's out of the way, let's eat!"
Stefan watched as the woman that looked and sounded exactly like Katherine skipped past him and snagged a piece of pizza from the box. He stared as she danced around the kitchen as she ate, smiling and laughing with Lexi and Enzo while glancing back at the brothers every once in a while.
When he heard Damon laugh beside him, it finally broke the trance she had put on him and looked to his brother. Stefan couldn't remember the last time he had seen him so open and happy. No, he could remember. They had both still been human and they had just started falling in love with the lovely woman that had just arrived at their home in Mystic Falls. But even that hardly compared to what he was seeing now.
"Not what you expected when you came here, was it?" Damon smirked at him.
For a moment, Stefan continued to stare at his brother before he smiled back. "Not even close. I'm glad to see you're doing alright. Gotta ask though, what's so specific about today?"
"It's Elena's birthday, and she wanted to meet you."
Many hours and drinks later, the guys were doing a drinking game while they played darts. To his complete surprise; Damon, Enzo, and Elena had kept the drinking to whiskey for the night to make sure he would be alright. The girls were playing pool while singing and dancing to the Runaways Cherry Bomb. The best part was when both Lexi and Elena were using their pool cues as microphones during the chorus and then Elena used it for a guitar during the solo, which had Stefan laughing. The longer he watched her the more apparent it became that Elena and Katherine were completely different people. And he could easily admit, that he liked Elena much more than he had Katherine and that she was a good influence on his brother. More than once, he saw them exchanging flirtatious glances or stealing kisses before going back to what they were doing.
Long into the night, he saw Enzo putting a record on the player and turning down the radio. His brow creased in curiosity as the rock music was replaced by Louis Armstrong playing La Vie En Rose. At least until Damon flashed over to Elena, gave her a spin, pulled her into his arms, and started dancing with her. Stefan, Enzo, and Lexi were in the kitchen holding their drinks as they watched the two of them dance. He could hear Elena softly singing into Damon's ear, smiling as she did.
Looking at Enzo, he quirked his eyebrow in question. "It's their song, mate," he smiled at the two of them. "Years ago, when Damon and I were going through hell together, she came into our lives, going through the same hell that we were, and helped us back to our feet. Don't think she even knows what a difference her being there was. One particularly bad night, she was singing this song with the radio and for that time she was singing, everything was alright. He was already falling for her by then, but I think he was well and truly lost the first time we heard her sing."
Looking at his brother as he led Elena into a dip and back into his arms to give her a lingering kiss, he could see that. Stefan knew that the three of them were keeping something from him and Lexi, something important that had to do with how the three of them met, but that wasn't important right now. What mattered was seeing the man that had promised him an eternity of hate and misery for forcing him to become a vampire and losing Katherine, become his brother again. It had taken over a hundred years, but he was glad that he had the chance to see it again.
AN: I was going to stop at a two-shot, but after writing the second chapter, I thought of what would happen later and it was easy to imagine. Enzo, Damon, and Elena would still be close friends. Lexi would have come to New York when she heard Damon was acting strangely and shocked when she met Elena, which would have her sending the letter to Stefan to get him there for Elena's birthday. I wanted to show Damon and Elena, years down the road, and still madly in love with each other. I hope you liked the final bit, even if it's a little shorter. Warm-Fuzzies and please review!
