Chapter 8: July 4 (Part 1)
Charlie Weasley was resting in the bed that he was sharing with Beatrice in what was her room before she left to work at the dragon sanctuary. He slowly got up. He yawned, stretching his arms and went to get changed. He got dressed into a T-shirt and jeans. He brushed his teeth and then went to the dinning room seeing his girlfriend and her father plating breakfast. "Hey Charlie, here's a plate." Miles said putting scrambled eggs and bacon on Charlie's plate.
Charlie took a seat next to his girlfriend and taking a bite of his eggs. "So, what is the plan today?" Charlie asked.
Beatrice looked at him with a smile. "Well, the town has a soft ball game which, you will be joining, then a barbeque happens, then fireworks, then we disapparate to Boise for the late night celebrate the independence that us wizards to the USA may or may not have helped the independence." Beatrice stated.
"Do you know how to play baseball?" Miles asked him.
"Not really but B has told me the jist of what it is and I have played quidditch back in school and can make up for the lack of knowledge." Charlie answered.
Between his arrival and today Charlie had got along with Miles. The two get along and like to talk about the differences between the two cultures of Britain and the United States. Miles even introduced him to his friends. The only thing that made miles hesitant is that Charlie is in a relationship with his daughter. But that is a hurdle slowly getting over.
After breakfast, left the home walking to the ground floor which the bar. The exited the bar locking the door behind them. They walked a couple of blocks to the baseball field where everyone was set up to play a game of soft ball. From the looks of it the entire town seems to have shown up for this game. "Charlie the team we are on go to the out field first so here's a glove you play right field." Miles told him.
"You will do fine." Beatrice told her boyfriend.
"I never played before." He told her.
"You were a seeker all you have to do is catch the ball that is hit with the bat before it touches the ground and if it does hit the ground toss it to either first or second base like a chaser tosses a ball to another chaser." She explained to him.
"Sounds easy enough I guess." Charlie said unsure.
Beatrice smiled before taking up the pitcher's mound. The first batter was a teenage male. Beatrice tosses the ball underhanded to the catcher. The ball is easily hit. The ball bounced off the ground towards the left field. The left fielder than tosses it to the first base person. The batter made it to first base before the first base person caught the ball.
The next batter was a middle-aged man that was slightly overweight. Beatrice pitched the ball, he hit the ball to right field into area where Charlie was in and caught the ball easily. He tossed the ball to the second baseman. The next batter was a 10 year old and hit the ball to right field that Charlie dropped to the ground allowing two people on base. After five more batters, the two teams switched positions. The team decided to let Charlie bat first. After missing the ball the first two times, he finally hit the ball deep in center field. He runs and makes it to second base and hears clapping from those that are watching. Next up was a 12 year old. The twelve year managed to hit the ball for a grounder right to the right fielder where she tossed it to first base getting him out but allowing Charlie to make it to third base. Next up was Beatrice, and hit it after the pitcher pitched it four times for a single getting Charlie home.
The game went on ending in a 13-11 score resulting in Beatrice and Charlie's team winning the game. After the game, Charlie and Beatrice were eating finger steak and fries. People regularly approached the couple to often hear Charlie talk and ask where he is from and be in awe that he was from England. After lunch and everyone was heading home to rest before the fire works started. Charlie walked to the upstairs home exhausted while Miles and Beatrice gave him sympathetic looks. "Charlie don't be overwhelmed by this, we would ask a lot of questions if you were from Oregon or Montana." Miles told him with a smile on his face.
Charlie sent a small glare at him. "What's next?" He asked his girlfriend.
Beatrice smiled, "Well after an hours rest I was thinking we disapparate to my grandma and grandpa's house so that you can meet the rest of the family."
"That sounds great," He said, "Wake me up when it is time to go."
"You got it." She told and saw that he was fast asleep.
Miles smirked at how fast he fell asleep. "Fast sleeper he is."
Beatrice rolled her eyes. "He can take 12 hour shifts with alphas of dragon colonies but being asked a million questions is too much for him." She said in exasperation.
