A/N: Hey guys! This is my first Carry On fanfic. Hope you enjoy it! The characters and the world belongs to Rainbow Rowell.
I Do
Simon was standing in front of the mirror. He was nervous. Today was the day. The big day. The day he was getting married. Penelope entered the room and looked at him with a smile. "You look handsome, Simon", she said. Simon looked at her and replied, "I'm nervous, Penny." Her eyes were soft as she looked at him. She said gently, "Simon, I know. Everyone is nervous on their wedding day. But you don't need to be. I mean, come on, you've faced chimaeras and dragons and goblins and wedding…..this is what scares you? Besides, you know that he loves you. More than you can ever imagine." Simon smiled, his nerves reduced a bit, but not by much.
He was standing near the door, waiting for Penelope. After all she was the one who was going to walk him down the aisle. She had been the only constant in his life. The only person who had cared to put up with him, in spite of the threat to her life. Well, apart from Baz, that was. Penny was more like a parent to him than anyone else ever would've been. And he wanted her to give him away to Baz.
Penny walked in to find Simon standing in the doorway. He looked emotional. Then again, he was getting married. She walked upto him and whispered, "Hey, Simon. Ready to sweep Baz off his feet?" Simon turned towards her and let out a bark of laughter. He replied, "Yeah, right. As if anyone could do that." "Yeah, nobody could. But you did." Penny, bless her, Simon thought. She always knew the right thing to say. She knew him. And he whispered, "Ready."
He placed his arm on the crook of her elbow and followed her. She was leading him through the aisle. To the man who waited for him at the altar. As he walked down the aisle, his eyes fixed on Baz. He looked stunning in the black suit. His hair a bit messy. His grey eyes looked full of life. They shone with happiness and love. And as he caught Baz's eyes, his nervousness faded. It was replaced with excitement. He wanted to by the side of his man.
Baz looked at Simon as he walked down the aisle. He looked terrific in the white suit. He could see the freckles on his face. His curly hair was messy as usual. His blue eyes radiated a bit of nervousness, and then they morphed into a look of happiness. Of course, the perpetually happy puppy, Baz thought. He hoped his nervousness wasn't showing on his face. But even if it had been, it had vanished with the sight of Simon. The boy – well, man, now – whom he had loved almost since the age of twelve. Who he had treated like his arch enemy. Whom he had almost killed. And then whom he had saved. Baz wasn't usually a sentimental person. But of course, there's usually and then there's Snow, he thought. He smirked at Snow.
Simon looked as Baz smirked at him. The same smirk which he had once thought to be evil. The same smirk which used to infuriate him. The smirk that he had come to love. The smirk that told him everything was alright. That he was okay.
Penny put Simon's hand in Baz's as they reached the altar. Baz squeezed his hand lightly and whispered in his ear, "I love you, Snow." Simon looked at him in surprise, because as often as Baz insinuated that he loved Simon, he rarely said it outright. Only when he was being especially soft with him. Simon just smiled in reply.
They had their own vows. Simon began, "Baz, I-I. Um… I promise….umm, to be with you. Through-through sickness and health. Through good times and umm, the bad. I love you." He looked down embarrassed. Penny had worked so hard, helping him learn his vows. And he had got flustered. And he had stuttered, like always. He felt like crying, he had messed this up. Baz raised his chin, gently. Simon looked at him, to see that he was looking at him softly, a rarity. Baz spoke softly, "Snow, I promise to be by your side through the good and the bad. Through sickness and in health. Through everything. I loved you almost since I was twelve. You were like the sun. My life revolved around you. And I felt like I was in the heaven when you kissed me. And today, on the day we are getting married, I promise to love you till the day I die. I love you, Simon Snow."
Of course, the eloquent bastard, Simon thought. The minister asked him, "Do you take this man to be your husband?" "I do", Simon replied. The minister turned to Baz, "Do you take this man to be your husband?" "I do", Baz answered with a smirk. They exchanged the rings. Baz noticed as Simon's hand shook slightly while he put his ring on. He squeezed it slightly. He hoped that it conveyed all the love that he felt for him. And perhaps it did.
The minister proclaimed them married. Baz kissed Simon. And Simon kissed him back, forcefully. After all these years, it was still a challenge. Baz smiled into the kiss at this thought. As they parted for breath, he could see Simon's eyes tearing up a bit. After all this time, Simon still tended to get nervous easily. He was still like a boy lost in the market. Baz's hand in his, the lifeline he was clinging to.
They opened the reception that followed with their first dance as a married couple. Simon still danced abysmally. But at least the song wasn't hopeless. Into My Arms by Nick Cave. Baz's arm was steel band around Simon as he whispered in his ear, "I choose you, Simon Snow, I choose you." And Simon smiled as the words reminded him of their dance at the Leavers' Ball all those years ago. And for the first time, he replied to his words, "I would say I choose you too, but you were never an option. You never will be."
And they continued to sway to the tunes of the song. Baz and Simon. This was their happy ending. Full of magic. Of a type of magic that even Simon could feel. Magic of love…..
The End
