I recently had to renew the registration on my pickup and this stupid idea popped into my head.
I don't live in California and I did no research on how California vehicle registration works. I'm just using my imagination based on the state that I live in, where they mail you a renewal card that you fill out and mail back with a check for the renewal fee. Then they mail you your new registration card.
Star and Marco are like thirty years old here, they've been married for some time. (#Starco4ever)
Marco sat down at his desk with the stack of mail. Star was out shopping with Janna and Pony Head and he had the house to himself, making it the perfect time to do paperwork. "Alright," he whispered to himself, cracking his knuckles. "Time to take care of business."
Marco didn't mind paying the bills for he and his wife. He prided himself on making sure that everything was taken care of well before the due date and the receipts were all properly recorded and catalogued. There was a reason both his and Star's credit scores were immaculate, and it wasn't because the long designated "safe-kid" was willing to let the credit card payments be overdue.
Twenty minutes at the computer for electronic bill payments and a few entries in the joint account register later, Marco was down to the bottom of the pile. Two last envelopes, identical ones both from the California Department of Motor Vehicles, Warnicorns, and Giant Invisible Goat-Drawn Carriages. (The original DMV had been altered after the cleaving of dimensions to include popular modes of conveyance from Mewni, as well.) One was addressed to him and the other was addressed to Star.
He tore open the one with Star's name, which turned out to be the registration renewal for her car. The top proclaimed VEHICLE REGISTRATION RENEWAL FORM. Beneath Star's full name and address was the VIN number, year, make, model, color, and license plate number of her bright yellow 2003 Ford Escort ZX2. He penned in Star's social security number (something all citizens of Mewni had been given after the cleaving) and flipped it over onto the back. Marco wrote in his and Star's car insurance provider (despite his extensive research for the best policy, Star had insisted on choosing the company with the most adorable animal mascot) and their policy number. He checked the box labeled "NO" beside the question that asked if her license was currently suspended in any other US state and filled in the correct information for the following:
Date of Birth: 12-26-2001
Eye Color: Blue
Sex: F
Driver's License Number: Q5732 56900 37812
Marco grabbed the checkbook for his and Star's joint bank account and made out a check to "CA Motor Vehicle and WGIGDC Comission" for the requested vehicle registration renewal fee of $82. He tore the check from the book at the perforation and placed it in the provided return service envelope along with the renewal card, licked the adhesive strip, sealed the envelope, neatly wrote his return address in the designated spot on the flap, and stuck a stamp on the upper right corner.
That's one down, Marco thought, placing the envelope to the corner of the desk to be sent in tomorrow's outgoing mail.
He grabbed his own DMVWGIGDC notice and tore it open, knowing that his would be somewhat more complicated. Indeed, the renewal card was significantly different:
VEHICLE REGISTRATION RENEWAL FORM
Due to the unique nature and unfamiliarity of your vehicle to the California Motor Vehicle Board, we ask that you please fill out all of the following information to the best of your ability.
Whereas Star's form already had her vehicle's year, make, model, color, license plate, and VIN number listed in the designated spaces, Marco's only listed his full name and address. The rest of the card was blank. He filled in the boxes in with his neatest printing:
Make: Dragoncycle
Model: XF-200C "Nachos"
Year: 1698437 or 2017 (depending on dimension)
Color: Tan
License Plate: 667
VIN: N/A
He added his social security number, insurance provider and policy number, flipped the card over to the back, checked the box for "NO" that asked if his license was suspended elsewhere, and then filled out the rest of the information:
Date of Birth: 11-28-2001
Eye Color: Brown
Sex: M
Driver's License Number: T9206 76974 14063
Marco double checked all of the information to make sure it was accurate, then opened up the checkbook for a second time and wrote a check for the registration renewal fee on a dragon-motorcycle hybrid: A whopping $14 dollars.
He sealed up the card and check in the return envelope and tossed it on top of the other one. After adding both checks to the account register, Marco leaned back in the desk chair and stretched his arms, feeling the warm tingle of satisfaction that only comes from the proper completion of essential government mandated paperwork.
Why in the world did I write this?
For those of you waiting for the next chapter of "Star (Wars) Vs The Forces of Evil"...it's coming...soon-ish. Promise.
