Chapter 18
After bowing politely to Vyrena, Yumikaya looked around slowly. After a few moments, Her eyes fell upon a mountain range in the distance that seemed to reach the clouds. As Yumikaya thought for a moment, Atali giggled softly.
" You are right. That would be a great spot to build a base. We could build into the mountainside for stability and use the surrounding forest as a barrier for ground forces. The mountain itself will be an excellent vantage point and easily defensible. " Atali smiled brightly as Yumikaya smiled and nodded.
" With all that space we will have enough room to house and train an army large enough to challenge both the Republic and the Empire. But first... " Yumikaya pressed a button on her comm-link before speaking softly. " IK-TO can you hear me? "
" Loud and clear Kaya. How can I be of assistance? " IK-TO's voice sounded clearly through the commlink.
" I would like to construct a base of operations. I would appreciate some assistance. I am planning to build the base into the mountainside. " Yumikaya spoke softly before IK-TO's voice once again sounded.
" Of course Kaya. I will send some droids to assist you. " IK-TO spoke calmly before the commlink deactivated.
" We will help as well. After all we would like a place here. " Shae Vizla spoke softly before Yumikaya turned to her and smiled brightly.
" We will also need some specialists. Military Advisers, Trainers, Supply Officers, Smugglers, Force Sensitives and as much as I hate to say it... Politicians. Ambassadors will be crucial to forging alliances. " Zanira spoke softly and smiled as Yumikaya gasped suddenly.
" I have the Smuggler part covered. I know the best smuggler in the galaxy. Give me a minute... " Yumikaya spoke softly as she typed a frequency into her commlink. After a few moments, The commlink beeped before a deep voice spoke sternly.
" This channel is for Tempest personnel only. Identify yourself. "
" My name is Yumikaya Graceblade. I am trying to contact the smuggler known as Seranya. " Yumikaya spoke softly before the stern voice spoke again.
" There is no one here b... " The voice was interrupted before a more feminine voice sounded through the commlink.
" Move your ass idiot!... Kaya! How are you kiddo? " Seranya's soft voice rang through the commlink like a musical instrument as Yumikaya smiled brightly.
" Hiya Sera! I'm good. How are you? " Yumikaya spoke happily before Seranya giggled softly.
" Oh kiddo I am beyond fantastic. Remember how I used to tell you that I would be the Queen of Smugglers one day? Well it happened. I now run the biggest network of Smugglers in the galaxy. Been busy since I left Ilum. Which reminds me... WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW WORRIED I HAVE BEEN?! " Seranya's voice rang out with irritation and concern as Yumikaya leaned away from the commlink for a moment before speaking.
" Well... I have been all over the place... Arkania, The Wellspring of Life and now I am here, On Odessen. " Yumikaya giggled softly as Seranya chuckled.
" So Arkania was your handiwork. Not bad kid. I didn't know you had that much firepower. " Seranya spoke calmly before Yumikaya responded.
" When you see my ship you will know where my firepower comes from. " Yumikaya giggled softly as Seranya sighed softly.
" Let me guess... You need Smugglers. " Seranya giggled softly as Yumikaya smiled.
" Yeah. I am setting up a headquarters here. I already have the Mandalorian Clans here as my allies but I need specialists. Think you can help? " Yumikaya spoke hopefully but was met by several moments of silence before Seranya began laughing softly.
" Who do you think you are talking to kid? Of course I can help. Don't you worry your pretty little head about it. You get your base set up and by the time it is built I'll be there with every specialist, Smuggler and Operative you will ever need. See you soon Kaya. " Seranya giggled softly as the call ended.
" Sera will take care of everything. She can smuggle anything, Anywhere and with an entire network of Smugglers and Operatives, We will have no shortage of supplies. " Satele Shan spoke softly before Atali spoke.
" I know someone who can help us train soldiers. Give me a sec. " Atali typed a frequency into her commlink and after a few moments, A rough sounding feminine voice spoke.
" Who is this? How did you get this frequency? "
" My name is Atali. I am trying to contact Nira T'Rani. " Atali spoke calmly and after a few moments of silence, A second, Softer voice sounded.
" Little Atali... It is so good to hear from you my sweet. We feared you dead when news of Arkania reached us. "
" I was fortunate enough to have a very special friend that day. But I need your help. My friend is building a base on the world called Odessen. We need someone to help train soldiers. Would your clan be willing to help us? " Atali spoke hopefully and after a moment, She got her answer.
" Of course we will help. You are a part of our clan and we look after each other. Odessen you say? We are on our way my sweet. See you soon. " After the call ended, Atali spoke softly.
" That has Trainers and Smugglers handled, Now we need military advisers, Ambassadors and Supply Officers. " Atali spoke softly before Satele Shan spoke.
" Seranya may bring some supply officers with her. Until she arrives, Let's focus on military advisers. " Satele Shan spoke calmly before Zanira spoke.
" I know that look Satele. You can't seriously be thinking of asking him for help can you? " Zanira looked at Satele Shan with a look of surprise on her face as Satele Shan spoke.
" Can you think of anyone better suited to strategy and battle tactics? " Satele Shan spoke in a matter of fact sort of way before Zanira sighed and shook her head.
" Who are you talking about? " Yumikaya spoke softly before Satele Shan sighed.
" My... My previous lover... Jace Malcom. The current Supreme Commander for the armies of the Republic. " Satele Shan had a look of sadness on her face as Zanira put her arms around her gently.
" They have a... Difficult history. While he is the best Military Adviser and Strategist we could ask for... I highly doubt he will leave the Republic. " Zanira spoke softly as Satele Shan sighed softly.
" I'm sorry it was a stupid thought. He would never leave the Republic. " Satele Shan sighed again softly before walking away silently.
" I'll go and talk to her. In the meantime, Let's wait for everyone to arrive before we start setting up. For now let's focus on designing the layout. " Zanira spoke softly before walking after Satele Shan as Yumikaya spoke softly.
" I agree. Let's design the layout and where everything will go before we start setting up. Anyone have ideas? " Yumikaya smiled as Shae Vizla and Atali began throwing around ideas for the layout.
After a few hours, The layout for the base was finished and Yumikaya smiled happily before speaking. " Well done everyone. I am glad we all came together and got this done. Now we can all relax until help arrives. " Yumikaya paused for a moment before turning to Shae Vizla. " Unless you feel like training me. My Verd'goten can't be postponed forever. "
" How right you are. Let's get to it Evaar'la Tal. You remember the stance and techniques? " Shae Vizla smiled as Yumikaya shifted into a perfect combat stance. " I'll take that as a yes. "
Shae Vizla lunged forward and threw a barrage of punches that Yumikaya blocked before dropping into a sweeping kick that Shae Vizla jumped over before bringing a fist down onto Yumikaya's head. As Yumikaya stood up, She activated her rocket boots and hovered in place for a moment before smiling and rocketing forward. As Shae Vizla motioned to block, Yumikaya flipped over her, Deactivated her rocket boots, Seized Shae Vizla's shoulders and flipped her over before locking her into a pin manuever. After struggling for a moment, Shae Vizla tapped the side of Yumikaya's leg gently. Yumikaya let go and helped Shae Vizla up as Vyrena spoke softly.
" Wow... " Vyrena had a look of awe on her face as Yumikaya smiled before she smirked and entered her combat stance, This time facing Vyrena. " Wait... You want to spar with me? But you are Mando Cabur... "
" And that title means I can't spar or train with whomever I please? It is a title. It does not define who I am. " Yumikaya spoke firmly as Vyrena looked taken aback before entering her combat stance. As Vyrena lunged, Yumikaya darted forward and slid underneath Vyrena, Pressing two fingers against a pressure point under Vyrena's arm, Making her arm go limp as Vyrena fell to the ground with a thud. As she stood, Vyrena rubbed the spot Yumikaya had pressed as it turned a soft shade of red. After groaning softly, Vyrena lunged again. This time, Yumikaya flipped over her and pressed a pressure point on either side of Vyrena's neck. As Yumikaya landed, Vyrena slumped to the ground, Unconscious.
" Well done. Immobilising an opponent without causing harm or using force is a valuable skill. I'll get Vyrena to her tent to rest. Keep practising. " Shae Vizla tousled Yumikaya's hair as she giggled before picking up Vyrena and walking toward her tent as Yumikaya continued practising manuevers and techniques. After a few hours of training, The construction droids arrived and began digging out the area for the base of operations in the side of the mountain, Reinforcing each area as they did their job.
As the base was being constructed, A transport landed and a couple of technicians carried a large box, A large bag and a second, slightly smaller box over and placed them in front of Satele Shan. As Satele Shan thanked the technicians and the transport took off again, Atali walked over and spoke calmly.
" Satele? What's in those? " Atali looked at the two boxes and the large bag curiously before Satele Shan smiled and spoke.
" Well... The two boxes contain lightsabre parts and the bag contains crystals. It is good that you are here. I would have come looking for you though if you weren't. " Satele Shan smiled as Atali looked up at her.
" Why? " Atali spoke calmly as Satele Shan giggled softly before speaking.
" If you are going to be Kaya's partner and fight with her, You are going to need a lightsabre. " Satele Shan smiled but looked puzzled as Atali glanced away slowly. " What is wrong Atali? "
" It's just... I... I have two crystals... " Atali held up the two small crystals slowly before Satele Shan smiled.
" Then I suppose you will craft two lightsabre's. I can teach you to dual wield them. I am positive that Zanira would be more than happy to help as well. " Satele Shan smiled brightly as Atali smiled.
" Thank you Satele. I really appreciate it. " Atali smiled as Satele tousled her hair gently before speaking.
" Sit with me Atali. Let's get your lightsabre's crafted. Just as Kaya did, You need to breathe and focus. Let the Force guide you. " Satele Shan fell silent as Atali nodded and sat down before closing her eyes and breathing slowly. As Atali breathed, Her two crystals floated into the air in front of her before the two boxes and bag began shaking slightly. After a moment, Four lightsabre crystals, Two identical pairs, Floated out of the bag. As Satele Shan watched in awe, The lid of the two boxes burst off and lightsabre parts started floating out of them. As the lightsabre's came together, Satele Shan sighed in wonder.
The parts came together to form a pair of curved, Mandalorian Iron hilts with a black leather wrap, A flat pommel with a small ring at the end and at the top of the emitter was a small curved claw at the back of the blade. As the parts clicked into place, The crystals floated into place and the lightsabre's completed with small clicks.
After opening her eyes, Atali took hold of her lightsabre's and activated them as she stood. A musical hum filled the air for a moment as the lightsabre's activated. The blades were thin and long with a slight curved shape and were silver at the core with smokey, Ash coloured blades but had a soft pink glow to them. As she swung them, A soft pink trail of light followed the blade momentarily.
After deactivating her lightsabre's, Atali spoke softly. " I felt the crystals. It was like they were calling to me. "
" The crystals you already had were very special. That being said, The crystals that now accompany them are also quite unique. A pair of Velmorite crystals and a pair of Kasha crystals. I honestly wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it... Or know you were attuned to Kaya. " Satele Shan giggled softly before Atali spoke.
" Can you tell me about the crystals? " Atali looked at her lightsabre's for a moment before Satele Shan spoke.
" Certainly. Firstly your two attuned crystals. Those two crystals more than likely have many names, I always called them Ash crystals. See how the blade has a smokey, Ash colour to it beneath the pink glow? Hence the name. Next, The Velmorite crystal is unique in that it creates fine, Thin blades that are more easily wielded for fluid, Graceful movements. The Kasha crystal is unique in that it helps clear the mind of whoever wields it. Providing clarity, Even during intense combat. A potent blend of clarity and grace combined with the power in the two crystals you provided will be quite an interesting combination. Seeing as your crystals are already attuned to you, We can begin your training right away. The art of dual wielding is much harder to master than a single blade. One wrong move can spell disaster. That being said, Master this style and watch as your enemies scatter before you to avoid your blades. Now then, To begin, The style I will teach to you is called... " Satele Shan fell silent as Atali giggled softly and deactivated her lightsabre's.
" Jar'Kai. It was one of the Combat Styles that Kaya and I learned from the Force Priestesses. I haven't had a chance to spar with Kaya yet due to lack of weapons but I know the style already. That being said I haven't practised so I would still appreciate your input Satele. " Atali smiled as Satele Shan nodded happily. After Satele stood, She began explaining the Jar'Kai style.
" The Jar'Kai style is one of the more difficult styles to learn. Often, Practitioners of Jar'Kai focus too much on lightsabre combat and not enough on their Force abilities, Often leaving them to rely on their blade skills or others for support. That being said, Jar'Kai is a versatile form, Allowing users to incorporate other lightsabre styles into it's use. Show me what you have learned from the Priestesses. " Satele Shan watched in silence as Atali ignited her lightsabre's and began practising the movements of Jar'Kai with a grace and speed that echoed the strength of a wildfire but all the grace and beauty of a flowing river. After several minutes of movement and techniques, Atali deactivated her lightsabre's and smiled as Satele sighed contently. " Magnificent. You still need practise but your grace and strength are a wonder to behold. With more training, You may well become one of the greatest Jar'Kai wielders in recent history. For now, You have an opponent. "
Atali looked confused at first but quickly ignited her lightsabre's as Yumikaya lunged past her and smirked as Atali motioned to block. As Yumikaya's blade slammed into Atali's, Yumikaya flipped and landed solidly before turning and facing Atali in her fighting stance.
" Don't fall behind dearest. " Yumikaya smirked playfully as Atali entered the combat stance of Jar'Kai.
" Nor you my love. I won't go easy. " Atali smiled as her tattoos started glowing softly before Yumikaya giggled and her tattoos began glowing as well.
" Let's go all out then shall we? " Yumikaya smiled brightly before exploding forward with enough force to crack the ground she had been standing on before Atali followed suite. As they collided, An explosive surge of power exploded out of them and knocked everyone nearby off their feet. As Satele Shan got to her feet, Her jaw dropped in awe at the sight before her. Atali and Yumikaya were all but a blur of pink energy and random sparks from lightsabre's colliding. After another wave of energy and bright flash of light, Atali lunged backward and landed firmly as Yumikaya slid backwards and giggled softly.
" Now this is more like it! I could have used this kind of practise back on Ilum. " Yumikaya smiled brightly as Atali lunged forward again, This time flipping over Yumikaya before sweeping her legs. As Yumikaya fell, She smirked playfully before spinning into a whirlwind of pink energy as Atali pushed her blades forward in a cross to block. As Yumikaya's attack smashed against Atali's blades again and again, Atali felt a warm energy building up inside her. As Atali pushed against Yumikaya's attack, The energy surged through her like a wave crashing against the shoreline. With one fluid movement, Atali stopped Yumikaya's attack, Swept her legs again, Disarmed her and pinned Yumikaya to the ground as she gasped loudly.
As Yumikaya looked up at Atali, Atali sighed exhaustively and fell to her side as her lightsabre's deactivated. As Atali breathed slowly, She felt a soft touch on her cheek and opened her eyes to see Yumikaya smiling toward her. " That's my girl. "
" Always. " Atali smiled happily as Yumikaya giggled and stood before helping Atali up as Satele Shan spoke.
" That was breathtaking. I have never seen so much speed and power. How did you achieve this? " Satele Shan's eyes darted between Atali and Yumikaya as they giggled softly.
" We became one through the Force. When we both use magnification at the same time, Our tattoos magnify our abilities to an extent that makes it almost impossible to perceive our movements. Our Force speed for example, Is magnified to a point where we could travel, As an example, From the Red light district to the spaceport on Nar Shaddaa in barely more than a few minutes. " Yumikaya smirked as her tattoos glowed softly and she seemingly vanished. If not for a line of dust following her, Satele Shan would have thought that Yumikaya had actually disappeared. As Satele Shan's eyes followed the trail of dust, She saw Yumikaya sitting on the branch of a tree, A few hundred metres away. As Satele Shan watched in awe, Yumikaya moved and was once again, Standing at Atali's side as Satele Shan spoke softly.
" A truly magnificent gift. You are both very lucky. " Satele Shan smiled happily before Atali and Yumikaya wandered away happily. As Yumikaya and Atali left, Satele Shan sat down and sighed softly before Shae Vizla walked over and spoke.
" You look like you need a break. Come for a walk? " Shae Vizla smiled as Satele Shan nodded and stood before following Shae Vizla. After a few moments, They walked into a small area that had a small lake and a waterfall flowing out of the side of a cliff that seemed to touch the sky. As Satele Shan sat down, Shae Vizla spoke.
" Alright. Spit it out. " Shae Vizla smiled as Satele Shan turned to look at her.
" What are you talking about? " Satele Shan had a look of confusion on her face as Shae Vizla sighed impatiently.
" You have been wandering around camp aimlessly whenever Zanira isn't around or you are not talking to Kaya. Spit it out. Why are you so depressed? " Shae Vizla nudged Satele Shan playfully as she sat down before Satele Shan groaned and spoke softly.
" I am not depressed. I just feel stupid for suggesting Jace. It was a terrible idea and I shouldn't have brought him up. " Satele Shan sighed softly before Shae Vizla chuckled and shoved her playfully.
" You sulking about this is what is stupid. Jace was a good suggestion. Yes he will never leave the Republic but it was a good suggestion. " Shae Vizla smiled as Satele Shan regained her usual composure before speaking.
" Yeah... I suppose... Hey! " Satele Shan sighed loudly as Shae Vizla shoved her.
" Quit sulking! Your gonna give me a headache. " Shae Vizla giggled teasingly as Satele Shan smiled and shoved her back.
" You are not getting a headache. You ARE a headache! " Satele Shan smirked as Shae Vizla smiled brightly.
" Feel better now? " Shae Vizla smiled as Satele Shan nodded before they walked back to camp.
As they walked into camp, Shae Vizla saw Vyrena speaking with Yumikaya. As she walked over, Shae Vizla caught part of the conversation.
" I just don't understand. You are Mando Cabur but you have no interest in leading our people? " Vyrena sounded confused before Yumikaya spoke calmly.
" Because I don't need to lead them. Shae is Mand'alor. I have no desire to fight her and no desire to be in control. I just want balance in all things. " Yumikaya smiled as Vyrena sighed.
" You are so confusing. Still... It is comforting to know we won't have a civil war at some point over who gets to lead. " Vyrena smiled happily before Shae Vizla spoke.
" Even if Kaya did challenge me, I would never fight her. I would rather die. She is like my own child. I would never hurt her. " Shae Vizla smiled brightly as Yumikaya hugged her lovingly.
" I know you wouldn't Shae. " Yumikaya smiled brightly as Shae Vizla tousled her hair.
" So... Ready for more training? " Shae Vizla smiled as Yumikaya nodded happily.
" Good. Your birthday was a few weeks ago... Which actually reminds me. Wait here. " Shae Vizla smirked and walked into her tent for a few moments before stepping out hold what appeared to be a backpack.
" Is... Is that... " Yumikaya's face quickly lit up as Shae Vizla handed the pack to her.
" A brand new Equilibrium made jetpack. Try it out. Just take it slow, It has a bit more kick than most jetpacks. " Shae Vizla smiled as Yumikaya quickly strapped the jetpack to her back and activated it. At first, Yumikaya hovered slightly off the ground but after about an hour practising movements, Yumikaya was rocketing around the camp and flying around freely. As Yumikaya enjoyed the feeling of flying, Shae Vizla activated her jetpack and flew alongside Yumikaya. After nearly an hour of flying around, Shae Vizla and Yumikaya landed and Yumikaya giggled happily as Shae Vizla tousled her hair.
" This is so awesome! Air combat is going to be so much easier now that I can move my legs. " Yumikaya grinned as Shae Vizla nodded.
" Should be a dramatic improvement in your technique. Now keep practising. Once I know you are ready, I will take you into the wilds. " Shae Vizla grinned as Yumikaya lit up and smiled brightly.
" The Verd'goten? You think I am ready? " Yumikaya squealed excitedly before Shae Vizla petted her head gently.
" I do. But you need to practise with your jetpack first. Keep practising for today. We can talk about the Verd'goten tomorrow. " Shae Vizla smiled as Yumikaya nodded happily.
As Yumikaya continued practising with her jetpack, Vyrena stepped out of her tent and sighed softly before walking over and standing beside Shae Vizla as she spoke." How did she do that? She barely touched me... "
" You should have seen her when we raided Arkania. She was magnificent. " Shae Vizla smiled as Vyrena looked up at her.
" What happened? " Vyrena spoke softly before falling silent and listening carefully as Shae Vizla sighed and spoke with a tone of voice that echoed happiness and admiration.
" We went to Arkania to retrieve the cloning technology they had. But nothing phased her. It was as if everything the Arkanian's did was part of her plan. She even preempted the war droid they had and brought her own... " Shae Vizla sighed as the sounds of battle and explosions filled her senses. " It was a glorious day. The Equilibrium rained fire from orbit as we ran through the city. Nothing could stop her. Guards fell before her blade like sand in the wind. Even outnumbered, She didn't hesitate. Even when Atali was immobilised, She rethought her strategy on the fly and adapted to it. She isn't just another commander. She is someone that will lead us into a glorious new age. " Shae Vizla beamed with pride and joy as Vyrena's jaw dropped and she looked at Yumikaya with admiration in her eyes.
" Wow... I am ashamed that I wasn't there for that... It would have been magnificent to see her in combat. " Vyrena sighed softly as Shae Vizla spoke.
" You can't even imagine. Yumikaya is the most ferocious warrior I have ever seen. She gives no quarter and let's you take no ground. She doesn't fall back unless it is necessary and knows when she needs to stand her ground. When we were leaving, She held off an entire battalion while I got Atali on board a shuttle and took off. We left that city as her war droid detonated and reduced the entire city to a crater. There is no one else like her. Atali comes pretty close though. They share a special bond. " Shae Vizla smiled as Vyrena's eyes filled with wonder and awe.
" Is it weird that I actually want to follow her... It's weird isn't it... " Vyrena looked away sheepishly as Shae Vizla giggled.
" Not at all. I know exactly how you feel. Even when her plan had some crazy in it... Seriously... Jumping out of a forty story building and using a war droid as an escape ramp... Crazy ass kid... Even then I was compelled to follow her. Damn the consequences. I know exactly how you feel. " Shae Vizla smiled and looked at Vyrena as she spoke.
" Then you know why I have to do this. " Vyrena sighed and walked forward as Yumikaya landed. As Yumikaya turned around, Vyrena knelt before her and spoke softly. " Please hear me out Mando Cabur. I have come to realise that you are special in ways I don't fully understand. In ways that make me wonder how the Mandalorian people have survived without someone like you to show us the way forward. I want you to understand how that makes me feel and why I need to do this. Why I need to pledge myself to your service and protect you with my life. Why I need to make sure you can lead us the way you are meant to. " Vyrena spoke with conviction and determination in her voice as Yumikaya smiled and spoke in Mandoa.
" Bic cuyir ner pu'ur at ganar gar. Atyaor bal cuyir kar'taylir Babatir Ke'gyce. " Yumikaya smiled as Shae Vizla's jaw dropped and Vyrena looked up at her in shock and surprise.
" You... " Vyrena was speechless as Yumikaya held a hand out and helped Vyrena to her feet as she spoke.
" Made you Knight Commander? Yes I did. My Knights will need a commander. " Yumikaya gestured to a nearby area where the recruits that were training on the Equilibrium put on Mandalorian style armour that had ferocious looking helmets and several symbols on the chest plating with long, draping cloaks on one shoulder. As Vyrena looked at the armour in awe, Yumikaya spoke firmly.
" Knights! Fall in! " Yumikaya's voice carried across the camp and the recruits quickly turned and rushed toward her before forming flawless battle lines and standing at attention as Yumikaya spoke. " Knights, Allow me to present your new Knight Commander. Treat her with the same dedication, Respect and loyalty that you show me. Knight Commander Vyrena, Have you anything to say to your comrades? " Yumikaya turned to Vyrena, Who looked slightly taken aback before clearing her throat and speaking with ferocity and conviction.
" It is my honour to serve alongside you. Let us together protect and serve Manda'lor and Mando Cabur and usher in a new age for all people! Are you with me Knights? " Vyrena had a look of determination in her eyes as the area fell silent for a moment before the recruits spoke in unison as they knelt before her.
" Par Pu'ur bal kote mhi malyasa'yr tarba! " The recruits stood as Vyrena smiled and turned to Yumikaya.
" We are at your command Mando Cabur. " Vyrena bowed respectfully but gasped loudly as Yumikaya pulled her up and hugged her tightly.
" It is my honour to have you Vyrena. Thank you so much for being here. " Yumikaya smiled brightly as she stepped back and walked away, Leaving Vyrena dumbstruck as Shae Vizla giggled softly before speaking.
" Knights, Take your new Commander for some training and run her through the drills. Get her up to speed and let IK-TO know that she needs some armour and weapons.
