The next morning Rogue's was in an even worse mood than the one she had been in the day before; if that was possible because she had been in a foul mood the day before.

At breakfast Scott and Logan cornered Kitty as she was pouring milk over her cereal and gave her a quizzical look, before either of them could ask the question that they were dying to know the answer to Kitty went on the defensive.

"She wouldn't tell me anything. The only thing she told me was to mind my own dam business and to not like bother her with trivial questions."

"Dam," Logan muttered after Kitty had left the two men alone. "I guess I'll have to talk to her, but it'll have to wait until next week."

"Why?" Scott asked in a tone of desperation.

"Jeanie and I are leaving on our trip in half an hour."

"I'll talk to her and if that doesn't work you can try when you get back." Scott said thinking fast.

"Why?" Logan questioned with a quizzical look.

"I don't think I can take another four hours of this let alone seven days."

"Alright just don't say anything to make her angrier than she already is."

"I do know how to talk to women Logan," Scott snapped.

"Just saying. No need to get your panties in a twist Boy Scout."

"Ha ha that's funny tin for brains," Scott countered; he had become use to Logan's insults and nicknames for him several years ago.

"Just promise me that you won't say or do anything to make her madder than she already is Cyc."

"Fine, I promise that I won't say or do anything to make her madder than she already is."

12:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 1992

After twisting and turning for what felt like hours Scott finally gave up on the illusion of sleep and went down to the kitchen for a midnight snack.

Scott headed straight for the refrigerator, not even bothering to turn on the overhead lights. Opening the freezer door, he looked for the pint of Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream he had hidden from thieving hands last week. Cursing under his breath, when he found it missing, Scott slammed the freezer door shut and jerked open the refrigerator door. He grabbed one of Logan's beers popped the tab and drained it and then grabbed another one. He nearly choked on it when a voice behind him spoke.

"Logan's gonna kick your ass if he comes back and you've drunken all of his beers."

Spinning round Scott came face to face with a pair of dark emerald-brown green eyes. Rogue. She was sitting at the island in the center of the kitchen eating his ice cream.

"What are you doing up?" Scott asked as he sat on bar chair across from her.

"Couldn't sleep. What's your excuse?" she asked with a shrug.

"Same as yours." Scott said looking at her pointedly.

"What?" she asked in an innocent voice.

"Whose ice cream?"

"Yours and it's delicious." Rogue said with an evil smile on her face as she licked the excess ice cream from her lips before sticking the spoon back into the pint and spooning another spoonful into her mouth.

"Now that's just mean." Scott said as he put his hands behind his head and leaned back in his chair.

"Severs you right."

"What did I do now?"

"You mean apart from benching me from any upcoming missions because of a broken hand? You sent Kitty up to question me."

"In my defense that was Logan's idea not mine. And both Charles and Hank agreed with my call to bench you until your hand is healed."

Rogue gave him a look that said, 'Yeah right,' before saying, "Either way you didn't stop her and I ended up having to listen to her go on and on about how hot you look in swim trunks for the rest of the afternoon."

"What!"

"You didn't know? She's had a major crush on you for the last three years."

"No."

"I'd avoid being alone in a room with her if I were you."

"Why," Scott asked, dreading the answer that he knew was to come.

"To quote her, I'd do him anytime anywhere. Even if it meant jumping him in the library."

"That's just wrong," Scott groaned as he slid down in his chair.

"Isn't it?" Rogue asked with a smile.

"God you're evil!"

"I know! Isn't it great?" Rogue asked in a very Logan like voice.

At that comment, Scott let out a bark of laughter, which was quickly accompanied by Rogue's own joyful laugh. "Am I forgiven for benching you since I let you eat my ice cream?"

"Maybe, depends on how many missions I miss." Rogue said with a cheeky smile.

"Fine. In all seriousness you know I only benched you because I care about you right?"

"Yeah I know, but you've had broken ribs and have still gone on missions." Seeing that he was about to speak she cut him off. "And don't tell me that's different because it's not. Broken ribs can do a lot more internal damage than a broken hand can."

"You're right. I'll talk to Charles and Hank and see what they say about putting you back on mission rotation."

"Thanks Scott," Rogue said as she stood. She put her spoon in the dishwasher and threw away the empty ice cream container, before stretching and saying, "I'm going to bed. Night."

"Night."

1:00 A.M. Monday June 1, 1992

Over the past week, things had been relatively calm at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and tonight found most of the X-men team and students out. With the expectation of Rogue and Scott who were curled up on the media room floor watching Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Logan had phoned earlier that day to tell Charles that he and Jean were extending their trip for another week. Glancing at the clock on the side table Rogue groaned, "Oh great," in a voice dripping with sarcasm when she saw that it was now one o' clock in the morning.

"What?'" Scott asked pausing the movie.

"It's June first." Rogue replied as if that explained her disgust with the date.

"So?" Scott probed.

"It's my twenty-first birthday."

"And that's a bad thing?"

"I haven't decided."

"What are you doing to celebrate?"

"Logan was going to take me to a bar to celebrate, but that's out now since he and Jean extended their trip for another week."

After several minutes of silence Scott spoke, "I'll take you out to celebrate."

"You?"

"Yeah, why not," Scott asked as she started to giggle.

"Sorry I've just never pictured you as someone who would ever set foot in a bar that wasn't attached to a restaurant." Rogue explained as she tried to get her laughter under control.

"Logan's not the only one who likes the seedier side of life." Scott muttered with a dark frown.

"If you say so." Rogue replied giggling.

"Come on it'll be fun. You only turn twenty-one once." Scott prodded.

"Alright. What time?"

"Around seven?"

"Isn't that a little early?"

"Not if we're driving into Manhattan." Scott said as he turned his attention back to the movie.

"A trip to a city bar?" At Scott's nod Rogue continued in her heavily laden Southern voice, "I do declare Mister Summers you sure know how to treat a girl right!"

"Just don't tell anyone I do have a reputation to keep." he said with a grin before they both fell over laughing.

"Alright sug I'll keep it to myself." Rogue said once they had finally stopped laughing. "The garage at seven?"

"That's fine." Scott said as he restarted the movie.

7:00 P.M.

At seven, that evening Rogue descended the steps into the garage and found Scott leaning against his bike dressed in a pair of dark jeans, a plain white tee, a pair of black boots, and his signature black leather jacket and ruby quartz sunglasses.

"Wow," Scott said as he took in Rogue's appearance. She was dressed in a white mini skirt that hit about mid-thigh, a white tank top, knee high dark brown leather boots, and a dark brown leather jacket that matched her boots perfectly. Her hair, which she had cut in a feathery wavy shoulder length style some months ago, was parted so that her two strands of white hair acted as bangs, falling over the right side of her face instead of her normal part down the middle.

"Do I look alright?" she asked hesitantly as she looked down at her clothes.

"You look amazing." Scott said with a smile as he pushed away from his bike.

"You don't look bad yourself Mister Summers," she said in her Southern accent with a sexy little smile.

"Shall we," Scott asked holding out his hand to her.

"We shall." Rogue said as she took his hand.

Leading her to his bike he handed her a helmet before climbing on and putting on his own. After making sure her helmet was on securely, she climbed on behind him and held on tightly.

When they hit downtown Manhattan Scott drove them to a bar he usually went to when he was in the city. The Zol Bar. Parking his bike Scott jumped off and before helping Rogue off.

Inside Ted, the bar tender, waved at Scott and called to him, "The usual Summers?"

"Nah, two Molson's to start."

"Really?" Ted asked with a raised eyebrow.

"It's her twenty-first birthday."

"Scott!" Rogue yelped as she playfully punched him on the arm.

"Well it is." Scott said with a shrug.

"And who might you be?" Ted asked as he took in the pretty brunette standing beside Scott.

"Anna Marie, but my friends call me Marie."

"Well Happy Birthday Marie." Ted said, "Do ya like lemon Marie?'

"Yes, sir."

"Then I have the perfect drink to help you celebrate your birthday." Ted said with a wink. "Give me a couple of minutes to get it mixed for ya." He said as he handed Scott two Molson's beers.

A few minutes later Ted returned with yellow drink in hand. "Here ya go," he said placing the drink in front of her.

Bringing the glass to her lips Rogue took a tentative sip. "That's delicious," she exclaimed after a couple of more sips. "What is it?"

"Lemon cupcake martini," Ted said with a fond smile, "a friend of mine from that old country use ta make em whenever she came round."

"Give your friend my thanks that next time you see her please." Rogue said as she took another sip of her drink. "Want to taste," she asked Scott when she turned to see him chuckling.

"Nah you drink. I'm good." He told her holding up his beer.

Giving him a shrug she turned her attention back to her drink.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

Three hours later a slightly drunk Rogue, due to Logan's healing ability, and a completely drunk Scott stumbled out of The Zol Bar before heading back to Westchester.

"Come on Scott let's get you upstairs," Rogue said as she helped a slightly less drunk Scott off his bike.

A loud rustling noise from outside made Rogue jerk into Scott accidentally slamming him against the back door of her brand new black Toyota 4Runner.

Scott gasped in pain and looked down at Rogue as he let out a strangled, "Ow!"

"Sorry I didn't mean to do that." Noticing how pale he had become Rogue asked, "Do you want to sit down?"

"Yes." He mumbled rubbing his aching head.

"Hang on a minute," she said as she moved Scott so that he was leaning against the rear of her SUV and opened the back passenger door before helping him in and sliding in next to him.

They sat in silence for a while. Rogue was just about to say something when another noise made her jerk up against Scott causing her head to bang into his jaw.

"Sorry!" Rogue yelped as she turned around to face Scott. Somehow, between apologizing and trying to get comfortable Scott kissed her.

Pulling away he rested his forehead against hers and asked, "Is this alright?"

"Yes," Rogue said in a breathless voice as she pulled Scott's mouth back down to hers.

Scott moved so that they were in the middle of the seat as Rogue wrapped her long boot clad legs around his waist and positioned herself so that she was now sitting on his lap.

"Wait," she gasped when he went to lay her down on the seat. Pulling away for just a minute she reached over the back of the seat and grabbed a blanket before she laid it down behind her back. Scott laid her down gently along the length of the seat as one long arm reached over her head and pulled the still open door almost closed.

Sliding down her Scott pushed her tank top and bra up. His thumb brushed back and forth across the tender peak of her right nipple until it had become as hard as a pebble. He then lowered his mouth to her breast and drew her nipple between his teeth. After he had finished with her right breast he delivered the same attention to her left breast.

"Scott please," She gasped as she tugged at his hair when she couldn't take the pleasure his mouth was giving her a moment longer. Ignoring her he trailed open mouthed kisses from her breast to her mouth.

Without breaking the kiss Scott slid her skirt up and her panties down.

Rogue slipped a hand between their bodies and unbuttoned his jeans before pushing both his jeans and boxers down.

After what felt like an eternity he surged into her. His kiss masked the scream that emerged from between her lips. He began moving slowly in and out of her. Then his movement changed from slow and easy to hard and fast. Her body seemed to have a mind of its own and knew exactly what to do. As she reached her climax she let out a strangled yelp of pain, which sounded somewhat like Scott, when he bit down hard on her bare shoulder.

She sank her teeth into the tender flesh at the base of his neck to prevent herself from crying out when she felt her second climax take hold of her body as Scott reached his own climax. They lay exhausted in each other's arms for several minutes before Scott flipped them so that Rogue lay on top before falling asleep.

Later Rogue woke and slipped away before Scott woke up. Upstairs she showered and changed into a pair of fresh clothes. She tried recall if she had made sure that any evinced of what they had done was gone before she had left the garage.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

6:30 A.M.

At breakfast Scott pulled Rogue off to the side and asked her, "What happened last night?"

"We went to a bar and had a couple of drinks."

"I know that," he snapped at her in a tone he usually reserved only for Kitty and Bobby. "Sorry, my heads killing me," he muttered when he saw the wide eyed shock on her face, he had never snapped at her like that before. "What I meant was what happened after that?"

"I drove us home."

"Why the hell did I wake up in the back seat of your car?"

"You were really drunk and you're a lot heavier than you look. I could only get you as far as my backseat and you said you'd sleep there." She muttered quietly looking at his shoes the entire time.

"We didn't do anything?" Scott asked gently as he lifted her head until he was staring into her brown green eyes.

"No, we didn't do anything." Rogue said as she lowered her eyes ever so slightly.

"Rogue," Scott asked quietly as he gently raised her face up to his once more.

She was on the verge of telling him the truth when Kitty and Bobby walked through the kitchen doors fighting about what they were doing this evening.

Dropping his hand away from her face as if he had been scalded he turned to the two and snarled, "Can't the two of you shut up for a dam day?" Before storming out.

"What's his problem," Bobby asked looking from the door Scott had just gone through to Rogue.

"He has a headache," Rogue muttered with a shrug before leaving as well.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

It was several hours later when Rogue found Scott reading in the library. "Hey," she said cautiously as she sat down next to him. "Feeling any better?"

"What?" Scott asked in confusion as he looked up from his book.

"Your head," Rogue said motioning at her own.

"Oh, yeah. It feels a lot better now. Thanks." Scott said as he went back to reading his book.

"I lied to you earlier when you asked if we did anything last night." She mumbled.

"I know." Scott stated without looking up from his book. "You missed your bra." At her strangled gasp he asked, "Are you ready to tell me what actually happened now?"

"Yes," she choked out.

"Well," he probed putting his book aside and looking her in the eyes.

"You kissed me." Rogue mumbled after several tense seconds.

"Okay," Scott said with a quiet sigh. "Anything else I should know?" After a few minutes of silence he added, "Look whenever you're ready to tell me you can Marie."

"Okay," she whispered as leaned against his side.

Smiling Scott wrapped an arm around her shoulders and went back to reading his book.

One Week Later Monday, June 8, 1992

Scott looked up as the door to the kitchen opened and Rogue walked in before she caught sight of him and promptly walked right back out again. Scott sighed as he took a deep breath and went back to his breakfast. Rogue had been avoiding him for the past week. Hopefully he could catch her alone long enough to straighten things out with her before Logan and Jean got back later this morning, but he wasn't holding his breath.

He was just putting his dishes in the dishwasher when Bobby, Kitty, and Jubilee came in yelling over each other. "What's going on?" He asked them as he closed the dishwasher.

"Logan and Jean just got back and they have something to tell everyone." Jubilee exclaimed as she grabbed a bottle of water. "And the Professor wants everyone in the conference room pronto."

Nodding Scott exited the kitchen and made his way to the conference room. When he reached the room he noticed that Rogue was siting next Ororo and that there was an empty seat next to her. Sitting down next to her he tapped her on her knee when she refused to look up at him.

"What," she snapped at him.

"We need to talk," he told her quietly.

"No we don't," she insisted finally looking up to meet his eye.

"Yes, we do. I've let you avoid me for a week and that ends now. We are talking about this after Jean and Logan make their announcement." Scott told her firmly.

"Fine," Rogue muttered as Kitty, Bobby, Jubilee and John came in.

Jean, Logan, Hank and the Professor came in a few minutes later. After everyone had taken their seats Charles spoke. "Jean and Logan have some news to tell us. Jean. Logan." He said, a small smile tugging at his lips.

"Thank you Professor," Jean said. "Logan and I wanted to tell all of you that we're getting married this December."

"Congratulations!" everyone cried. Kitty and Jubilee raced over to hug Jean.

Soon everybody expect for Rogue and Scott, who had already slipped out, were talking about the upcoming wedding.

"What about bridesmaids?" Jubilee asked bouncing on the balls of her feet.

"Who's going to be the Maid of Honor?" Kitty asked.

Ignoring Kitty's question Jean scanned the room before finally asking, "Where's Rogue?" When nobody answered she added, "I think I'll go find her." Then she left the room. She wanted to ask Rogue something and she really hoped that the young woman would say yes.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

After everyone had swarmed Jean and Logan, Scott quietly guided Rogue out of the conference room.

"Where are we going?" Rogue asked him as he pulled her along the corridor.

"Somewhere quiet to talk." Scott said as he pulled her outside and down the lawn to sit beneath the shade of an old oak tree by the edge of the lake. "Will you please tell me why you've been avoiding me for a week?" Scott asked as he cupped her face in his hands.

"I haven't been avoiding you." Rogue insisted.

"Yes you have," Scott said. Bending his neck slightly he kissed her gently on the mouth. Brushing his thumb over her cheek, he sighed. "You don't have to tell me what happened the night of your birthday, but please stop avoiding me."

"Okay," Rogue murmured as her mouth found his once more.

A little while later found Scott leaning against the trunk of the oak tree with Rogue leaning against his chest. "Did you know he was going to propose?" Scott asked quietly as he played with a strand of her hair.

"Yeah, I helped him pick out the ring." Rogue mumbled as she leaned into his touch.

"So the rumor that you're in love with Logan isn't true?" Scott questioned.

"It's no more true than the rumor that you're in love with Kitty."

"What the fuck!" Scott spluttered as he tilted his head to look at her.

"That's what the rumor mill says. Don't worry everyone knows Kitty started that rumor." Rouge said with a shrug. "I wouldn't worry about it too much."

"Easy for you to say. Logan isn't one of your students." Scott muttered under his breath.

"Oh get off it no one really thinks you're in love with Kitty or still in love Jean either." Rogue said as she leaned back and kissed his chin.

Smiling Scott pulled her into another kiss before breaking it with a sigh. Glancing at his watch he said, "I've got a meeting with Hank and Charles in ten minutes."

"What about," Rogue asked as she climbed off him.

"You," he said as he got to his feet. "I'm going to see if they'll clear you to come on a few low level missions. I'm not making any promises though."

"I know, but thank you for trying." Rouge told him with a gentle smile.

"See you later," Scott said as he headed back.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

Jean found Rogue sitting underneath one of the oak trees by the edge of the lake.

"Hey," Jean said as she plopped down next to her on the grass.

"Hey." Rogue replied with a small smile.

"You disappeared before I could talk to you." Jean told her with a stern look.

"Sorry, Scott wanted to talk to me about something." Rogue told her with a small shrug.

"Was it about mine and Logan's engagement?"

"Sort of. He asked if I knew Logan was going to propose." It wasn't technically a lie.

"You helped Logan pick out the ring," Jean said before Rogue could say anything else.

Rogue gave her a sheepish smile before saying, "Be glad I did. Your future husband has no taste when it comes to jewelry."

"I was wondering why I actually liked it." Jean said with a laugh.

"All joking aside I'm really happy for y'all."

"Happy enough to agree to be my maid of honor?" Jean asked with a hopeful look on her face.

"Absolutely." Rogue said as she hugged her friend.

"Oh, by the way happy belated birthday sweetie." Jean said as she pulled back from the hug.

"Thanks," Rogue told her with a shy smile.

"What did you end up doing since Logan thought it was a good idea to extend our trip?"

"Not much. Scott took me to a bar in Manhattan. It was nice."

"Scott took you?" Jean asked in confusion.

"Yeah, why?" Rogue asked looking over at her.

"No reason." Jean said with a smile, "I'm just glad you got to celebrate. Where did he take you?"

"The Zol Bar. It was really nice and the bartender, Ted made me a lemon cupcake martini."

~A New Kind of Mutant~

Later that night Jean sat on the bed in her and Logan's room. "I talked to Rouge today. She said yes."

"That's good," Logan muttered tiredly eyes closed. "Haven't had a chance to ask Boy Scout yet."

"I know he left with Rogue earlier."

"Why?" Logan asked eyes popping open.

"He wanted to talk to her about something, and before you ask she didn't tell me what it was about."

"Hmm," Logan mumbled as his eyes closed again.

"Hey, didn't you tell me that you asked Kitty to throw Rogue a birthday party before we left for our trip?"

"Yeah, why?" Logan asked as he pulled Jean back against him.

"Rogue told me that Scott was the one that took her out to celebrate." Jean told him as she curled into his side.

"What!" Logan yelled as he jerked up into a sitting position and stared down at Jean in shock. "I'm gonna ring that little brat's neck," he muttered darkly.

"She said she had a really good time."

"Where'd he take her?"

"The Zol Bar in Manhattan."

"Really? I didn't think one eye knew of any bars that weren't attached to restaurants."

Laughing Jean shook her head, "You'd be surprised. Scott use to be quite the trouble maker when we were younger."

~A New Kind of Mutant~

In the room she shared with Kitty, Rogue was trying and failing miserably at studying for her upcoming mid-terms.

"Hey Rogue?" Kitty asked for about the hundredth time that night.

"What," Rogue snapped at her roommate without looking up from the massive human biology textbook she was currently reading.

"Can I like ask you something?"

"Sure."

"What's like going on with you and Scott?"

"Nothing."

"Are you sure because it didn't look like nothing this morning when he dragged you out of the room or the past week when you've run in the opposite direction like every time you've seen him lately."

"Oh that? He was just asking me a question and I haven't run in the opposite direction every time I've seen him. Can you be quite now? I'm trying to study for my mid-terms."

"Alright." Kitty said rolling her eyes as she left the room, slamming the door behind her.

"I am so screwed." Rogue thought to herself as she tried to focus on studying.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

5:00 A.M.

Logan could hear the faint sound of music from one of the training rooms below ground. Shaking his head, he slipped out of bed and headed downstairs. The rest of the house might not be able to hear the dam music, but he could.

As he got off the elevator on the ground level, he recognized the music as Scott usually tunes for training.

Walking to the training room in question, he opened the door, flicked off the speakers, and waited for the Boy Scout to tell him something.

"What the fuck Logan? I was listening to that!" Scott yelled as he walked over to where Logan stood.

"I could hear it all the way upstairs."

"Then get a pair of earplugs." Scott snarled as he turned the speakers back on but lowered the volume setting.

Shutting them off again Logan shook his head. "I need to ask ya something before ya get your panties in a twist Summers," Logan said quickly as a fuming Scott turned on him.

"What," Scott growled out between his teeth as he shot a deadly gaze, from behind his ruby quartz sunglasses, at Logan.

"I wanted to know if you'd be my Best Man?"

"Are you asking me because Jean told you to or because you really want me to be your Best Man?"

"A little of both."

"Yeah, I'll do it." Scott said with a smile before adding, "Congratulations by the way. Heard Marie helped you pick out the ring."

"Yeah she did. Since when do ya call her Marie?"

"Since her birthday." Scott replied with a shrug.

"Jeanine mentioned that ya took her to The Zol Bar. Got a say I'm impressed didn't think ya knew any bars that weren't attached to a restaurant."

"Funny Marie said the same thing to me."

"She takes after me at times Scooter." Logan said with the fond smile he usually wore when talking about Marie.

"Nah she's got better taste than you do. Now if you don't mind I'd like to get back to my training." Scott said with a pointed look.

"Fine. Have fun killing yourself Boy Scout." Logan said as he headed back up stairs.
