July 29, 1992
Despite suffering from jet lag and having gone to bed after two that morning Rogue was wide awake at six-thirty. Sighing in defeat, after tossing and turning for thirty minutes she forced herself to get up and get dressed. She pulled on her favorite pair of jean shorts and a white lacey tank top over a zebra print bra before finishing the outfit off with her black convers. Glancing in the mirror she decided to leave her hair in the messy bun she had put it in the night before. As she went to leave her room she noticed that Kitty and Bobby were both still sound asleep on Kitty's bed. Shaking her head she quietly exited the room and made her way downstairs for breakfast.
"Thought you'd still be sleeping kid," Logan commented as he sat at the table reading the newspaper and drinking a cup coffee.
"Me too," she replied as she went about fixing herself a bowl of cereal. "How's the wedding planning?"
"Bout the same as it was three weeks ago." Logan muttered as folded the paper back up and laid it out on the table.
"You still pissed that I was on a mission with Scott?" She asked as she sat down next to him.
"Nah." Logan said as he started at her questioningly.
"Then what?"
"You alright kid?"
"Never better," Rogue answered with a smile.
"Hun," Logan muttered by way of a reply to that particular statement.
"So, apart from Paige getting injured what's been going on here?"
"Nothing to exciting. Kitty and Jubilee are pissed that they failed English and math, but I'm guessing you already knew that."
"Yeah," she said with a roll of her eyes. "I was forced to help them study for their finals. I'm surprised that they passed chemistry."
"Just barely from what Jean said." Logan answered as he took a swig of coffee.
"Really," Rogue asked with a mouthful of soggy corn flakes.
"Didn't your mother ever teach ya not to talk with your mouthful kid?"
Swallowing first Rogue answered him cheekily, "Don't know if she did or didn't, but my foster mother sure did."
"You were in the system," Scott asked in surprise as he came into the kitchen, still in his pajamas.
"Yeah. From what I can remember my Mom and Aunt dropped me off somewhere in Mississippi and never came back."
"How old were ya kid," Logan asked as the look on of abonnement and terror that had woven a tale across her face the first day that they had meant flashed through is mind.
"Six. The only thing I had with me was a backpack with AMX embroidered on it and Charlie," the way she said her old stuffed dog's name made it sound like she was saying Sharlie instead of Charlie.
"Do you remember anything about her?" Scott asked as he sat beside Rogue with his usual mug of black coffee.
"She was tall and slender and she had long wavy blonde hair and blue green eyes." Rogue told them quietly as brushed a stray hair behind her ear. "I always thought she looked beautiful, especially when she would wear yellow. She always looked like the sun then; I think her name might have been Rae, but I can't really remember."
"What about your dad?" Logan asked.
"I don't think I ever knew my dad. I remember that there were always these four guys that were permeant fixtures in my life, but if I try to recall their faces I get a migraine. The Professor says that it has something to do with the blocks that someone put up around certain memories in my mind." Rogue explained in soft quite voice. "But it doesn't really matter because if she hadn't of left me in Mississippi then I never would have ended up here." Rogue added as she looked from Logan to Scott with an illuminating smile on her face.
"Ya would think that way kid." Logan laughed as drained the last dregs of his coffee and set his mug in the sink before leaving the two alone.
They sat in silence as they waited for the sound of Logan's feet on the stairs. When they finally heard the tell-tale creek of the stairs Scott let out a sigh as Rogue laid her head on his shoulder. Smiling to himself he placed a kiss on her forehead before taking another swig of coffee and reaching for the discarded section of newspaper that Logan had left lying on the table.
"Did you get any sleep last night?" Scott asked as he started reading the business section of the Times.
"I got a couple of hours." Rogue mumbled as she closed her eyes and breathed in his earthy scent.
"How do you feel," Scott asked after a moment.
"Fine, I think it was just a twenty-four hour bug or something."
"When do classes start?"
"In forty minutes."
"What time will you finish?"
"Around one, but I'm supposed to lead the study session in the library until four, however, I can't image that anyone's going to bother showing up for that." Scott said with a shake of his head.
"So I heard you get a double dose of Kitty and Jubilee this time around."
Scott grimaced before muttering, "Unfortunately."
"Aww their not that bad." Rogue giggled as she poked him in the side.
"You don't have to teach either of them." Scott pointed out as he closed the paper and laid it down on the table.
Rogue made a thoughtful face before saying, "True," and looping two arms around Scott's neck.
The smirk that flashed across his face was the only warning she got before he pulled her onto is lap and then kissed her squarely on the mouth. The kiss was swift, and as soon as it ended Scott deposited her back to her previous spot next to him. He then stood leaned in close to her ear and whispered, "Nice bra," and then left with a nod.
"God he's annoying." Rogue muttered under her breath as she crossed her arms over her chest and pouted for a second. Sighing she picked up her empty bowl and deposited in the sink. As she was passing the coffee maker she felt her stomach roll and darted out of side door and onto the patio quickly. Taking a few deep breaths of fresh air she felt her stomach settle down. What the hell is wrong with me? I've never had a problem with the smell of coffee before.
"Hmm, you can't stand the smell of fish or coffee? I wonder what that means." A malicious voice said cruelly from inside her head.
"Don't you have anything better to do than irritate me?" Rogue demanded of Sabretooth.
"No, not really," was the snarled reply.
"Why don't you go bug someone else? I really don't want to deal with you right now."
"Fine, don't use your basic instincts. Hopefully you'll figure it out before," He fell silent suddenly.
"Shut up Victor." A voice, one Rogue could vaguely recall hearing from her early childhood, snapped. "Leave the poor girl alone. She'll figure it out when the time's right." And with that both voices disappeared.
"Chica," a voice yelled before Jubilee crashed into her and enveloped her in a bear hug.
"Ow! Get off of me Jubes." Rogue grumbled as she shoved Jubilee off of her.
"Come on Roguey I've missed you like crazy the last three weeks." Jubilee whined at her friend.
"Fine," Rogue said as she rolled her eyes at the younger girl. "How's Paige?"
"She's got a broken arm, concussion, and a couple of stiches on her chin, but other than that she's fine. It was nothing compared to the first time you got injured on a mission."
Rogue nodded once before turning back to Jubilee and asking, "What about you?"
"I assume you're asking how many classes I have to take." At Rogue's nod she sighed and admitted, "Just math and English with Scott. Kitty has to retake four or five classes, I think."
"Why does she have to retake that many?"
"Umm because she was flirting with Bobby the entire time." Jubilee stated in a tone that explained why that was the most obvious explanation.
"What time is your first class?" Rogue asked.
"Math in fifteen," Jubilee said after she had glanced at her watch. "I guess I better get going."
"I think that would be wise."
"God I can't believe I have to sit through an hour and a half of math and English until September." Jubilee complained as she headed towards the building that housed the academic class rooms. "And don't you dare say I told you so," she yelled back over her shoulder
Laughing Rogue headed back to the main building and up to her room, which was now, thankful, empty.
Two hours later she deiced to grab a book from the library and go and read by the pool.
~A New Kind of Mutant~
It was a little after one o'clock when Bobby, Paige, Jubilee, John, and Kitty all came running out to the pool.
"Hey Rogue," John called out just before he did a cannonball into the pool.
"Rogue," Paige exclaimed as she threw her arms around Rogue's neck.
"Hey Paige," Rogue said with a smile. "How are you feeling?"
"Better. My head doesn't hurt anymore."
"That's good." Rogue said as she ruffled the thirteen year olds hair affectionately.
"Rogue I haven't seen you in like three weeks!" Kitty shrieked as she threw herself down onto the lawn chair next to Rogue. "Like where have you been hiding?"
"London," Rogue said calmly as she picked up her book and began reading again.
"Did ya like go by yourself or did ya like go with someone? And why were ya like even in London?"
"I went with Scott and the Professor asked us to go."
"Why did he ask you to and not like Jean or Storm?"
"I don't have a clue you'll have to ask him that." Rogue said with a sigh.
Kitty fell silent after a few minutes of questioning, and Rogue breathed a sigh of relief that she could finish reading her book in peace. She was so engrossed in her book that she didn't notice that Bobby and John had snuck up on her until their shadows fell across the page she was reading. She had just enough time to scream before they grabbed a towel and threw it over her to protect themselves from her exposed skin. John then grabbed her legs and Bobby grabbed her arms as they picked her up and carried her over to the edge of the pool.
"Don't even think about it," Rogue screamed as the boys began to swing her back and forth. "I swear I will hunt you down and kill you both if you throw me in that pool," she snarled at them just as they let go and she went sorrowing into the deep end of the pool. After a minute she surfaced and swam over to the side of the pool. Hoisting herself out of the water she stocked over to where Bobby and John where standing doubled over laughing.
They looked up when they noticed her standing in front of them, and both opened their mouths to tell her something, but were stopped when she socked each of them in the nose and jaw with a killer right hook.
"What ya doing kid?" Logan asked from behind her.
Spinning around to face him she shot him a deadly look and snarled, "Executing the first phase of my revenge on these two assholes." And with that said she stormed off towards the house in a sopping wet white tank top, zebra print bra, blue jean shorts, and black convers.
Looking over at Bobby and John, who were trying to stop the blood dripping down their faces, he shook his head and said, "Ya better watch out. Ya just severally pissed her off with that little stunt."
~A New Kind of Mutant~
Library
Scott sat reading in one of the many oversized and over stuffed leather arm chairs, scattered satirically throughout the library. The crash of one of the large oak doors leading into the library slamming shut jarred him from the peaceful silence that he had been reading in for the past forty-five minutes. Wincing ever so slightly at the sound Scott sighed and searched his place in the book. He had just found it to when he heard the unmistakable sound of the dead bolt being thrown.
Deciding to ignore the nagging feeling that he was going to regret not getting up to find out who had just entered the library, Scott finally began reading his book once more. He was just turning the page when a shadow fell across the page. Looking up he found himself staring slack jawed at a fuming red faced Rogue. Who also happened to be dripping wet.
After several minutes of struggling to find the right words he simply looked at her and asked, "Yes?"
Her face seemed to become even redder, if that was at all possible, when the one syllable word left his mouth. Through gritted teeth she snarled out one word, "Move."
Deciding that it would be in his best interest not to question her at this particular moment Scott stood and allowed her to take his hand and drag him through the library until they had reached the one reading nook that was completely hidden from view. Scott sat down and pulled her onto his lap before she could say or do anything else. "What happened?" he asked after a moment of terse silence.
"Nothing," Rogue muttered darkly as she unbuttoned the first three buttons of his blue oxford dress shirt, and slowly dragged one of her fingers across his collar bone.
"Then why are you wet?" he asked softly before kissing the pulse point just under her jaw and adding quietly, "Not that I mind."
"What," Rogue asked in confusion as she jerked back and gave him a quizzical look.
"Did you even pay attention to what you were putting on this morning?"
"Yes!"
Scott gave her one of his teacher looks before telling her, "Look down."
"I know my shirts wet," Rogue snapped as she looked down. The color drained from her face as she realized, for the first time, that everyone could see her zebra print bra through the wet fabric of her white shirt. "I'm going to kill them," she snarled darkly as she started to push off of Scott.
"Kill who?" Scott demanded as he quickly wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her back on top of him.
"Bobby and John." At his questioning look she added, "They threw me in the pool."
"How did they manage that?" Scott asked trying very hard not to start laughing.
"How the hell do you think they managed that," Rogue snapped at him.
"I meant, how did that happen without your skin knocking them out."
"They used a towel."
"Ah," Scott said as a small smile tugged at his lips.
"Stop laughing," Rogue whined at him as she laid her head against his shoulder.
"I'm not laughing," Scott told her as he slowly raised her head so that he could look into her eyes. Leaning forward just a fraction of an inch he placed a kiss on her lips before pulling away and resting his forehead against hers. "I missed having you sleeping next to me last night."
"You promised," she reminded him as one of her hands snaked around the back of his neck to play with the curl that was there.
"I know." He replied with a sigh as he leaned back and moved her so that she was now laying across his lap instead of straddling it.
"Do you wished you hadn't?" She asked, referring to the promise that she had forced out of him before they had left London.
"No, keeping our relationship quite is better than the alternative."
They sat there listening to the birds chirping outside for what felt like hours before Scott asked, "Do you want me to talk to them?"
"No I took care of it?"
"How exactly did you take care of it?"
Looking rather ashamed Rogue mumbled, "Their faces became acquainted with my right hook."
Scott couldn't help himself then he burst out laughing. "I would've loved to have seen the look on their faces when you did that."
"I'm sure Logan would describe it to you if you asked him nicely."
"Would you?"
"Depends on how nicely you can ask," Rogue told him quietly as she kissed down her way down his neck.
"On second thought I can think of something else I'd rather be doing." Scott said with a smiled as he turned his head and claimed her mouth with his.
A/N: Happy Easter, if you celebrate it. I'll fix any typos later today or tomorrow. This chapter isn't as long as I had originally planned for it to be, but I felt that anything else I could have added to it would be better off in a later chapter. On my profile page is a link for the outfits from this story, but be warned there are outfits up for former and unwritten chapters. Reviews are appreciated, but not demanded. I'm not sure when I'll have the next chapter up.
