July 31, 1992.

"You should come too," Kitty whined at Rogue as she packed her suitcase for the annual end of the month trip.

"I have my final presentation this week," Rogue told her flatly as she flipped the page in the book she was reading. "Besides there'll be another trip in August."

"Yeah, but we'll probably go camping or to a museum or something. This trip is to the beach." Kitty remarked as she packed three different bikinis.

Glancing up Rogue said, "Most people wear the same bathing suit more than once."

"Scott's chaperoning." Kitty said with a giggle as she twirled around to give Rogue a telling look and wink.

"And that requires that you bring three different bikinis with you?" Rogue asked with a sigh, as she rolled on to her back and stared at a spot on the ceiling.

"Yes," Kitty exclaimed in exasperation as she glared at the elder girl. "It's all part of my plan to seduce him."

"Why the hell can't you leave him alone?"

"Because I'm going to prove to you and everyone else that he desires me!" Kitty yelled as she stomped her foot angrily.

"Kitty, he's twenty-nine and you're sixteen. That means that you're a minor and he could be arrested if he was caught in a compromising situation with you. Not counting the fact that he's you're teacher."

"But I love him," Kitty whined as she stomped her foot yet again, reminding Rogue of toddler who wasn't getting their way.

"And, he doesn't love you." Rogue snapped back as she stood and left slamming the door behind her. Silently praying that Kitty would get the message before she did something stupid.

"You wouldn't be able to live if he decided he loved someone else." Was Magneto's snarky reply.

"Ugh, is it ya'lls lifelong goal to drive me insane," Rogue demanded of him darkly as she stomped down the stairs

"I am simply making an observation," Magneto replied in a monotone voice.

"Well it's a stupid observation," Rogue grumbled as her eyes began water and a couple of tears rolled down her cheeks. "Why am I crying," Rogue muttered as she used her sleeve to wipe away the tears.

"For the same reason that you can't stand the smell of coffee."

"What's that suppose to mean." Rogue demanded of him.

With a sigh Magneto told her, "You'll understand in time."

"Understand what!" Her frustrated demand was meant with silence. Groaning she slid down the wall and pulled her knees up to her chest before wrapping her arms around them and tucking her head down into the opening that her position created as the tears, she was desperately trying to hold back, began to flow freely down her cheeks.

Scott sighed as he knocked on the door of the Professor's office.

"Come in Scott," Charles called to him after a moment.

Scott frowned when he noticed Warren and Logan sitting side by side on the sectional and Paige sitting in one of the winged back chairs. Closing the door behind him he moved to the center of the room. "You wanted to speak with me sir," Scott asked trying to ignore the stares he was receiving from Logan and Warren.

"Yes. Won't you sit down?" Charles asked as he motioned towards the other winged back arm chair. Nodding his head Scott sat, and looked at the sullen faces of the four people in the room. "Scott, I'm afraid that I have some rather troubling news."

Scott looked at the Professor before glancing to where Logan and Warren were both sitting.

"Paige, would you please tell Scott what you told us?" Charles asked as he gave the young girl an encouraging smile.

Paige quickly glanced from the Professor to Scott before nodding her head. She looked down at her shoes as she spoke, "I overheard Kitty telling Jubilee her plans for this weekend." Paige said. Taking a deep breath she looked up at Scott before continuing. "She told Jubilee that she's planning to seduce you this weekend."

"Not again," Scott groaned as he looked from Paige to Logan to Warren to Charles before looking back at Paige. "Please tell me she was joking."

"She wasn't." Paige mumbled as she looked back down at her feet.

"Thank you Paige," the Professor told her with an encouraging smile. "You may go."

Nodding Paige got up and made her way to the door. She turned back around to look at the Professor and asked, "Professor, did I do the right thing?"

"Yes, my dear."

Smiling Paige left the room.

"Shit," Scott groaned as he closed his eyes and leaned back in the chair.

"Scott did you know about this?" Charles asked, curious about Scott's reaction to the news.

"Sort of," Scott muttered. "Rogue mentioned it."

"Ah," the Professor said with a nod as his eyes closed in deep concentration. "Marie would you please come to my office? There is something I wish to discuss with you," Charles called out to her.

"Yes," was the hesitant and sniffled reply that came after a few minutes of silence.

"She should be here momentarily." Charles told them.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

Rogue whipped the last traces of the tears from her cheeks. Please don't let my eyes be red. She begged of which ever gods or deities were listening before she stood up and head down stairs to the Professor's office. She knocked on the door and waited for his permission to enter. She froze when she saw Logan and Warren seated on the sofa and Scott in one of the wing backed chairs.

"Ah Rogue, please have a seat." Charles said as he motioned towards the chair that Paige had vacated moments before.

Rogue lowered her head as she walked towards the chair, praying that Logan wouldn't be able to smell the salt from her tears. Sitting down she avoided meeting their eyes until she had calmed her nerves. As she raised her head she slowly met the Professors eye.

Charles smiled at her gently, noting her red eyes and the tear tracks running down her cheeks. "Rouge I wanted to speak with you about Kitty."

At the name of her roommate Rogue locked eyes with the Professor and asked, "What's she done now?"

"Nothing, of which I am aware. It concerns something she is planning to do this weekend, and perhaps something she told you that you might have mentioned to Scott."

"Her obsession with him," Rogue asked as she looked from the Professor to Scott and back again.

"Obsession," Logan's gruff voice inquired.

"Yeah obsession," Rogue told him as she looked at Logan for the first time. As she looked at him she felt his eyes zero in on her own, and knew that her eyes were indeed red from crying. Turing her attention back to the Professor she told them, "Actually, she just told me that she's planning to seduce him during the trip."

"Why the hell can't she just leave me alone," Scott grumbled.

Turing to look at him Rogue observed the scowl that was displayed on his face. "To prove to everyone that you desire her."

Scott snorted at that.

"Is that your opinion kid?" Logan asked.

"No that's a direct quote from Kitty."

"Dammit," Scott muttered darkly as he rubbed a hand over his face. "What the hell am I suppose to do now?" He demanded of the room at large.

"I believe it would be in the best interest of both parties if you did not chaperon any of the trips that Kitty plans to go on." The Professor calmly told them. "Warren would you mind filling in for Scott this weekend?"

"Sure." Warren said as he looked at the Professor. "I guess I better go start packing."

"Thanks Warren," Scott said as the other man stood and head towards the door.

"No problem." Warren said, as he left.

"Rogue has Kitty made sexual references about Scott in the past?" The Professor asked once the door had closed behind Warren.

"Yes, and nothing Jubilee or I tell her seems to make a difference." Rogue said with a defeated look.

"I will speak with her about this, but until then we will just have to keep an eye on her. Was there anything you wished to address Logan?" Charles inquired of the older man.

"Nah Charles that was it." Logan said as he stood up and stretched.

As the three of them left Charles' office Logan placed a hand on Rouge's shoulder. "I need ta talk to ya for a second kid."

"Okay," Rogue mumbled as she brushed a piece of hair behind her ear.

Logan led her to one of the empty meeting rooms on the hall. Closing the door Logan turned to her and said, "Ya been crying kid."

"No," she denied with a shake of her head.

"Kid I can smell 'em. Try again." Logan told her sternly as he crossed his arms.

"Kitty pissed me off."

"And?"

"Magneto's physic didn't help." Rogue answered with a defeated sigh.

"Ya sure that's it kid?" Logan asked as he lifted her chin so that she was now looking him in the eye.

"Yeah, I'm sure." Rogue told him with a small smile as she turned and left.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

Rogue had just passed the second floor landing when she felt someone place a hand on her elbow. Spinning around she found herself standing inches from Scott.

"Are you alright," he asked softly as ran the pad of his thumb under her left eye.

"No," she told him quietly. Whipping at her eyes she felt Scott shift as he drew her against his chest.

Glancing down the hall Scott led her to his room. He ushered her inside and looked back over his shoulder. Closing the door and locking it behind him he turned to find Rogue sitting on his bed with her head buried in her hands. Moving across the room he knelt down in front of her gently lifting her head to meet his gaze, and took her hands in his. "Marie, baby what's wrong?"

"I don't know," she sobbed as she looked at him. "Kitty was packing and talking about her plans to seduce you so I left, and then Magneto had to chime in with his stupid comments. And then the stupid water works started."

Scott moved and sat next her on the bed. Pulling her against him he leaned back against the mountain of pillows lining the head of his bed. As Rogue sobbed into his shirt Scott held her against his chest and murmured soothing words to her as he gently combed a hand through her hair. They stayed like that until the tears had finally stopped, and Rogue had fallen asleep. Scott quietly slipped out of his room and headed downstairs to the kitchen.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

The second Scott entered the kitchen he wished he hadn't. Logan and Ororo were seated at the table, and Logan's gaze fixated on Scott the moment he walked through the door. Dammit, her scent's all over me. Scott silently cursed himself as he tried to ignore the feeling of Logan's gaze boring into him.

"Ororo, do you mind if we continue this later?" Logan inquired. "I need to talk to Scott."

"Sure," Ororo told him quietly as she stood. She shot Scott a questioning look as she walked passed him. He gave her, what he hoped was a reassuring smile and shrug.

Once the door had closed behind her Scott braced himself for the attack that he knew was coming; and Logan didn't disappoint. "What the fuck did you do to make her cry," Logan snarled as he grabbed a fist full of Scott's shirt and slammed him against the frig.

"I didn't do anything," Scott snapped defensively as he tried to shove Logan off.

"The hell you didn't." Logan snarled back.

"She was crying because of something Kitty and Magneto told her." Scott snarled. "Now, will you please let me go?"

"Where is she," Logan demanded as he released his hold on Scott.

"Sleeping."

"Where," Logan demanded with a growl.

"Doesn't matter you'll be leaving in ten minutes." Scott told him firmly.

"Hurt her and you're dead," Logan snarled as he drew back a fist and punched Scott squarely in the jaw.

"What the fuck was that for," Scott demanded of him.

"You know dam well what it was for." Logan countered as he spun around and stalked out of the kitchen.

Groaning Scott rubbed his bruised jaw. "At least he didn't break it this time," he muttered to himself as he grabbed a bottle of water and turned to head back to his room.

As he passed the foyer Jean called out to him. "Scott, wait a second."

Pausing at the bottom of the steps Scott waited for Jean to catch up. "What," he questioned when she finally had.

"Logan just told me you aren't coming with us." Jean stated as she crossed her arms and fixed him with a look usually reserved for her problem students. "I hope it isn't because of anything I've done." She looked from him to her engagement ring and back at him as she said this.

Taking a step towards her he managed to get, "Did you actually just accuse me of being jealous that you said yes to tin head," out between gritted teeth.

"Well, if the shoe fits," Jean snapped back at him.

"Why the fuck would I be jealous of Logan?" He demanded of her as he took another step towards her. "He has to put up with you."

"You son of a bitch," Jean snarled as she drew back her fist and punched him in jaw.

Cursing Scott glared at her. "What is with you people and punching me in the jaw!"

"You deserved it," Jean snapped as she went to punch him in the face again. Only this time instead of punching Scott, she punched Rogue whom had just appeared between them from the floor above, in the lip.

Rogue stumbled back and fell back onto the marble flooring. She lay there blinking up at the ceiling for a moment before she sat up and glared at Jean and Scott, who were both wearing guilty expressions. "Ow," she muttered as she put a hand up to her lip and came away with blood. "Wonderful," she grumbled sarcastically as she got to her feet still glaring at Jean and Scott. "What the hell Jean!"

"It was meant for Scott," Jean mumbled as she gave Rogue an apologetic look.

Rounding on Scott she demanded, "And what did you do to ensure Jean's wrath!"

"Nothing," Scott told her in the tone he reserved for John and Bobby.

"Don't use that tone of voice with me, or Jean won't be the only one punching you." Rogue told him. Scott regarded her for a second before deciding that with her hands on her hips she looked quite intimidating. Glancing at her Scott sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose before shaking his head.

"He said he felt sorry for Logan because he has to put up with me."

"Only after she accused me of not chaperoning trip because I'm jealous she chose Logan." Scott shot back as he sent Jean a death glare.

"Dam Jeanie," Logan's gruff voice said from the doorway. "Even I wouldn't accuse him of that." Walking into the room he glanced over at Rogue. "What happened to your face kid?"

"Your fiancé's aim was off." Rogue told him pointedly.

"Get Hank to look at it before he leaves. He's in the kitchen."

Rogue looked between the three of them.

Shaking his head Logan gave her a nudge towards the kitchen. "I won't let'em rip each other's throats out, and I won't lay a finger, hand, or fist on Summers."

Sighing Rogue nodded in reluctant agreement and head towards the kitchen and Hank.

Chuckling to himself over the disbelieving look on her face Logan turned his gaze on the former couple. "Did you really accuse him of being jealous that you choose me?" Logan asked Jean.

"Yes."

Smirking he turned to look at Scott, "Wouldn't it have been easier just to tell her the real reason?"

"I didn't get the chance."

"Well, you've definitely got it now." Logan said as he crossed his arms and shot the younger man a look that said not to push his luck.

Sighing in defeat Scott turned to Jean, "I'm not chaperoning because the Professor doesn't think it's wise to tempt fate." He shot a meaningful glance at the foyer where most of the students, including Kitty, were now gathered.

"What's she planning this time?" Jean asked as she caught his meaning.

"To seduce me."

"What!" Jean yelled causing several students to look over at her. Lowering her voice she asked, "Could you repeat that? I don't think I heard you correctly."

"You heard right." Logan said.

"Is she nuts?" Jean demanded in a whisper.

"Probably," Scott told her.

Before anything else could be said the Professor's voice was heard from the foyer. "If we're all here we can begin loading the buses."

"I guess that's our cue." Raising her voice she called out, "Sorry about your lip Rogue."

"Its fine, but you might want to work on your aim," Was Rogue's reply, they could hear her trying not to laugh, and Hank scolding her about needing to hold still.

"And you might want to practice where you materialize." Jean told her flippantly as she looped an arm through Logan's and pulled him in the direction of the foyer and the masses heading out to the buses. Looking over his shoulder Logan shot Scott a warning look.

Scott watched as the first group of students, which thankfully included Kitty, was ushered outside. Smiling to himself he head towards the kitchen where Rogue was still being treated by Hank. Upon entering the kitchen he noted that Hank was just finishing stitching up Rogue's busted lip. Frowning he sat down in the chair next to her.

"Thanks Hank." She told him once he had finished.

"Don't mention it," Hank told her with a concerned look. "Have you told the Professor about," he trailed off when he noticed Scott sitting next to her.

"No." Rogue admitted vaguely.

"Would you mind if I ran some test when I get back from D.C.?" Hank asked as he cleaned up the medical supplies he had just used.

"Sure."

"Great." Hank said with a smile as he left the two alone in the kitchen.

"I thought you were sleeping." Scott said as he brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.

"I was." Rogue stated as she avoided meeting his gaze.

"What happened?"

She avoided answering him by playing with the salt and pepper shakers. Placing his hand over hers Scott tilted her face up so that he was looking into her eyes. "Marie?"

"I had a nightmare and you weren't there, so I came looking for you, and well, you know the rest of it."

"Do you want to talk about it?" Scott gently asked her.

"No," Rogue muttered with a shake of her head.

Scott brushed a kiss on her forehead as he stood and headed out of the kitchen. She'll tell me when she's ready to.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

Later that evening Rogue, who was freshly showered and dressed in a pair of pajamas, went looking for Scott. She found him sprawled out on the couch in the media room watching Jurassic Park. Leaning against the doorframe she quietly observed him. He was dressed in an old t-shirt and a pair of plaid pajama bottoms, and she could see the droplets of water still cling to his hair.

"Stop molesting the man with your eyes and jump him already," Mystique begged of her before adding. "After all we both know you're dying to get him back in bed."

"I am not," Rogue snarled (in a very Logan like manor) at her.

"And I didn't sleep with Charles." Mystique retorted.

"Who?"

"Oh never mind." Mystique muttered darkly.

"Who are you talking to this time?" Scott asked, making Rogue jump.

"Mystique." Rogue grumbled as she moved over to the couch and curled up inches from where Scott was.

Sighing he reached over and pulled her against him. "Hank left hours ago," Scott said as he hovered over her, "which means I get to do this," leaning forward he brushed a kiss across her lips before rolling back over onto his side behind her. Rolling her eyes Rogue scooted closer to him as he draped his arm over her waist.

They were part way into the movie when she felt a pair of lips brush across the side of her neck. Shuddering she turned her head slightly to look back at Scott, whose gaze was transfixed by the T-rex eating the blood sucking lawyer. She eyed him a moment more before turning back to watch the movie.

After a few minutes she felt the hand resting on her left hip slide down towards the hem of her oversized shirt. She shivered slightly when she felt the cool are licking at her exposed skin, as Scott's hand slid up and under her shirt. She let out a small groan when his hand gently brushed against her sensitive breast. "Scott," she whimpered, when the tips of his fingers came across a nipple.

Taking advantage of her agitated state Scott moved so that he was now hovering over her. He met her gaze as he slowly lowered his mouth to her own. The kiss was tender with the promise of more to come.

Breaking the kiss Rogue let out a small whimper her arms coming to wrap around his neck as her eyes searched his. "I don't think I need to see the rest of this." Scott mumbled as he unhooked her arms from around his neck before sitting up and turning the television off.

Grinning at him Rogue crawled into his lap and wrapped her legs around his waist as her arms came to rest around his neck. "Hmm, I think I'd rather be in bed," she whispered in his ear as she nipped lightly at the tender flesh of his lobe.

"You're going to be the death of me," Scott groaned as he stood and carried her upstairs to his room.

~A New Kind of Mutant~

The first light of dawn was just starting to peek over the horizon as she ran about the field of wild daisies. Her curly hair hung down around her shoulders and she was wearing an off white black polka-dotted button down dress.

Her mother was a few feet away sitting on a red and white checkered blanket underneath a weeping willow reading. While Uncle Erie leaned against the same tree watching her as she ran about. Spinning about she promptly fell down onto the still dewy grass as her gaze landed on the lighting sky. They were here because Uncle Vicky and Auntie Emmie were suppose to be here any second. She hoped that Aunt Sara, Uncle Jonas, and Mr. Zel were coming with them. She hadn't seen them since Christmas.

"Annie, I hope you aren't ruining your dress." Uncle Erie called to her after a few minutes.

"No," she replied with a little giggle as she rolled over on to her stomach and began to stalk towards her godfather using the tall grass as cover.

She had almost reached him when she saw him turn towards her mother and ask, "What will you do if Irene says that she is one?"

"I'm not sure yet," her mother replied as she marked her spot in her book and turned to look up at her closet friend.

"You haven't given it any thought at all?" Uncle Erie asked as he dropped down next Mummy on the blanket.

"Honestly, no. I suppose that I'll eventually make sure that she ends up in his care. God knows I don't want her to end up like any of us." Mummy said as she looked over at Uncle Erie.

Regarding the pain in her eyes that she was trying and failing to hide Uncle Erie smiled at her before saying quietly, "Can you image the look on Charles' face if she were to turn up at the school when she gets older? Especially, once he realizes that she's your daughter? I'd pay a boat load of money to see the look on his face the day he realize s that."

"Well then it's a good thing you won't have to," a new voice says from next to him.

"It's about time you got here Emmie. I was starting to think that Zel had gotten lost." Uncle Erie said as he flashed her one of his infamous grins.

"Of course you were," Aunt Emmie replied flippantly as she plopped down next to Mommy. Shooting Uncle Erie one of the annoyed looks she reserved for she added, "Why don't you go see what those two are up to?" Aunt Emmie said as she pointed to were Uncle Vicky and Mr. Zel were conversing; and even though she had phrased it as a question Annie realized that it was more of an order than a request.

"Whatever the lady wishes," Uncle Erie replied as he gave a mock bow before turning and heading in the direction of where the two men were talking.

Pouting just a little that her prey was on the move once more Annie turned to follow him, when she heard her mother say, "She's one."

"Yes," Aunt Emmie responded as she looked out at the mountains that surrounded the field on all sides.

"Why won't he have to pay a boat load of money to see the look on Charles' face when he realizes that she's my daughter then?" Mummy asked quietly.

"Because he'll be there that day," Aunt Emmie told Mummy just as quietly. "But, Irene did say only God can help you on the day that both of them realize that she's Charles' daughter."

"That day can never come Emmie. Charles can never know that he's her father." Mummy said as her eyes began to water.

"You can only keep something like this hidden for so long. The truth has a way of coming out." Aunt Emmie said as she ran her fingers through Mummy's long wavy blond hair.

"How long," Mummy asked trying not to choke on her tears.

"Irene said that the mutation wouldn't manifest until she was sixteen, but sweetie she also said that we only have two more years with Annie before our lives will force us to hide her in order to keep her safe."

"I don't know sweetie. I don't know."

Jumping to her Annie ran across the space that separated her from her mother and flung herself into her mother's lap. "Don't cry Mummy. I'll never leave you."

"Åh min söt ängel," her mother sobbed as she buried her face in Annie's soft curly locks

~A New Kind of Mutant~

Gasping for breath Rogue jerked awake. Sitting up she glanced around the dark room as she tried and failed to remember the dream she had just had. "Who are they," she wondered to herself as she tried to recall the names she had seemed to know in the dream. "I know I've seen them before, but I can't figure out where." Groaning she threw the covers off and slipped out of bed. Pulling on Scott's abandoned t-shirt and her underwear she slipped out onto the balcony that all of the staff rooms had. Leaning against the railing she tried to remember anything from the fleeting dream.

"Dammit," she snarled after several minutes when she still couldn't recall anything. "Why the hell can't I remember a dam dream?"

"Because your mind isn't ready for you to remember it," A calming voice told her gently.

Frowning Rogue asked, "Who are you?"

"Someone you aren't ready to remember just yet." The voice, a woman's voice, explained to her.

"Mind telling me when I will be ready to remember you?"

"You'll know when the times right. I expect that I'll be seeing you sooner that you think Annie." The woman said as her voice faded away.

"Who the hell is Annie?" Rogue demanded aloud.

"How am I suppose to know?" A voice asked from behind her.

Spinning around Rogue came face to face with a boxer clad Scott Summers. "You aren't. I was talking to…" trailing off she frowned as tried to figure out who she had been talking to this time. It was the same voice that had told Sabretooth to shut up the other day and she was positive that she had heard that voice before she had ended up living in Tylersville when she was six.

"Marie," Scott asked softly as he cupped her chin with his hand.

Meeting his gaze she said, "I don't know who I was talking to. I've heard her voice before and honestly I think it was my godmother's voice?" It came out sounding more like a question than a statement.

Nodding in understanding Scott gently pulled her back into his room before closing and locking the door to the balcony. Leading her back over to his bed he pulled her down next to him and held her until they both fell asleep.
