MISCOMMUNICATION
Chapter One
Rose Weasley was not impressed at all with Scorpius Malfoy at the moment, which was saying a lot, because she hardly ever got mad at her best friend. She especially didn't get mad at him for something as trivial as this, but there was always a first time for everything. It was the last Yule Ball of their Hogwart's life, and Rose Weasley was determined to have Scorpius there.
"What do you mean you're just not going to go?" Rose Weasley screeched in the library, causing quite a few heads to turn.
"It means, I am just simply not going. Honestly Rose, it's not that big of a deal." Her blonde companion responded cooly.
"And what are you going to do instead? Sit around and get pissed to Firewhiskey?"
"That's the goal!"
"Oh, you are despicable!" She seethed.
Scorpius just seemed to ignore his friend's distress, which only agitated her more.
"Scorp please, it's my last Yule Ball-"
"It is also my last Yule Ball, but I just would rather not go."
"I just want to have a nice night with my friends and not worry about you being alone in the castle, stumbling around."
Scorpius sighed at what she said, he knew it was illogical to argue with her. When Rose wanted something, she was not going to stop arguing until she got it. He knew that he was going to the ball whether he wanted to or not. So why not mess with her a little bit more?
"There's just no one to go with, everyone's taken." Scorpius tried.
This seemed to stop her for a second, allowing Scorpius to smile in his victory. Had he really outsmarted Rose Weasley?
"We could go together, as friends." Rose attempted.
Of course he hadn't, that would have been far too easy.
"Are you asking me to the Yule Ball?"
"I guess I am!"
"Hmm, I would have liked a bigger spectacle. Maybe some fireworks, or chocolates-"
"Scorpius,"
"But I guess seeing as you are my best friend and you are begging to go with me. I'll consider going the Yule Ball with you."
"No, you will go with me and let it be known that I am not begging you. You just happen to be an enormous prick about this whole ordeal!" Rose huffed, causing Scorpius to smirk.
"Alright, alright," He sighed in mock defeat, "let me walk you back to your tower, it is almost curfew and I would rather us not get a detention for causing havoc in the library."
Gathering their bags, the headed out of the library in comfortable silence. They had been acquaintances for a long while. Scorpius was placed in Slytherin along with Albus Severus and the two of them quickly became inseparable. Since Rose was in his year and cousins with Albus it made it hard for her to be completely unaware of Scorpius's existence. But since Rose was in Ravenclaw it did make it slightly more difficult for her to befriend him. She was always wrapped up in her own house studying or with her cousins catching up.
It was not until their fifth year when Rose started to break out of her house and talk to others. As a prefect, Rose was able to socialize with more with students from different houses, one of them being Scorpius. They seemed to always be partnered together for rounds, and they had an almost identical schedule. It was difficult for Rose not to get to know him better.
Rose quickly realized that Scorpius was insanely intelligent, he just lacked work ethic. He would much rather spend his time with his friends than getting the highest marks possible, which Rose understood seeing as that's how most people are. It was just the fact that his scores rivaled her own and she had to put loads of effort in. Not only was he intelligent, he was extremely quick-witted as well. He always knew what to say to make her smile, something that no one else had mastered.
Scorpius Malfoy was kind and caring. He was insanely loyal, and Rose found that she enjoyed being a-part of his group. She enjoyed his company and did not want to fathom what would happen to their friendship post Hogwarts.
"It seems m'lady that we have arrived at your tower." Scorpius proclaimed, giving a small mock bow.
Rose rolled her eyes at the gesture, and quickly shoved him while he was not fully balanced.
"Is that what I get for being a gentleman? If this is how Yule Ball is going to go, then I definitely want no part of it." He teased.
"What you call being a gentleman, I call being an attention-seeking prat. I would like to think that I know you well enough by now to discern the difference."
Rose looked up at the boy in front of her. He was about 6'3, which easily towered over most people, but Rose seemed to inherent her genetics from her father. She stood a nice 5'8, which was still short compared to Scorpius, but not a staggering difference. His blonde hair was growing out, which made Rose want to gag. It made him resemble his grandfather, but since Rose obviously disliked the long hair, Scorpius always threatened to let it grow. He was toned from Quidditch, which helped him look like a walking stick. His nose was pointed, and he had the signature grey eyes that every Malfoy seemed to possess. Scorpius Malfoy was very attractive it was a fact that Rose learned very early on in their friendship.
"Well as long as you know the difference."
"Someone has to now don't they."
Scorpius reached forward and wrapped his arms around the ginger girl, causing her to immediately tense up. Scorpius was very much a hugger, something Rose was decidedly not. However, no matter how many times Rose almost told him to stop, she never did. It was something different about the way he held her. Each time he hugged her, while she was tense at first, after just milliseconds she seemed to melt into his arms.
"G'night Rose, I'll see you tomorrow!" Scorpius said pulling away.
"Goodnight." She whispered in return, watching his lanky figure stroll to the dungeons.
It was in this moment that Rose Weasley knew she was utterly screwed, because she had managed to fall in love with her best friend.
AN: hello, I'm writing this to cure some boredom during the time of this pandemic. I typically write dramione, but I've been wanting to write about my own personal experiences for a while now. I just find myself in this situation relating more to Rose & Scorpius, also slightly easier to mold them into my vision since there characters aren't exactly given. I can create what I want from them.
Anyways this story is based (loosely) off of a friendship I'm in currently, I just find it helpful to write things out, and this was created. I don't know how often updates will be, but it does help me write things out so hopefully it will be regular. Not just for your sake but for mine as well. Everything I write is literally based off of something that happened from about 2 years ago up until now. I haven't seen anything like this, but I hope that you are able to enjoy this story.
Please leave a comment! And my grammar/spelling is atrocious I know, I just needed to get this out, it felt like I was keeping a secret that I needed to be let out. So please don't mind that! It will be fixed :)
