Chapter 1:

My name is Lily Potter. I'm eleven years old and tomorrow I'm starting Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I'm the youngest of the three. Albus and James are already in Hogwarts and they say it's better than the muggle schools we had to go to when we were younger.

Of course I'm extremely nervous. My older brothers and my mum and dad reassure me I'll be fine. I don't know about that. I didn't have many friends in my muggle school. They all thought I was odd. I had to take down all of my Quidditch posters whenever we had friends over. And we had to hide witch magazines and The Daily Prophet under the sofa. Dad struggled to stop using magic. Mum would often scold him for using the Expelliarmus spell when anyone was rude to him. Our uncle Ron just laughs and says that even though they've left Hogwarts more than fifteen years ago Dad still doesn't give a toss about school rules. And then Aunt Hermione gives him a long speech on why he should obey the laws of the wizarding world and that he should be setting a good example to his children and oh my the speech goes on and on and on. I suppose that's what you'd be expecting from the Minister of Magic though.

I finished packing my trunk this evening. The whole thing is actually happening. It seems a bit surreal. I'm a bit worried about what house I'll be sorted into. Albus is in Slytherin and he has friends there but I'm not sure if I like Slytherin. A lot of the students there are descended from Death Eaters. I don't like the green colour either, or snakes. Albus has recently become obsessed with snakes. He has posters of them all over his bedroom. Dad thinks it's just a phase but I'm not so sure about that. James is in Gryffindor. He's going into fifth year this year and he's taking his OWL's but he's really smart so he'll get all of them. He's locked himself up in his room a lot lately and he says he's studying but he's up to something.

I got up at eight this morning and there was a cage on my desk. It was old and dirty. Was this Albus's idea of a joke? I entered his room. He was still in bed. "Whassamatter?" he said groggily. He was chewing his pillow. "That's disgusting" I said. He got up out of bed and shut the door in my face. "You're disgusting" he says. "Mum!" I shouted running down the stairs. "What is it?" she says. "Why is there a bird cage in my bedroom?" I demanded. "It's for your owl!" she replies as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "But I don't have an ow-"I began but suddenly a fluffy small grey owl flutters through the window and onto Mums head. I nearly toppled over laughing at the sight of her. She scowled. "That's from your Uncle Ron. Pigwidgeon had baby owls so since you are starting Hogwarts; he's given it to you "she says and handed him to me

I jumped up and down and give him food and water. Albus was a bit jealous. After all, he only had a toad. He watched me play with the baby owl in the car enviously. "He's annoying; you know so put him back in his cage"

We reached Kings Cross at half ten. I walked through the barrier at nine and the quarters to reach the platform with Dad. The red steam train was smoky and the sun glittered through a window in the ceiling. I felt anxious but happy. Like the happiest person in the world. I felt as though I was floating as the train pulled up. And there was nothing that could ruin today.

The train had lots of compartments. Albus and James went off with their friends and I just wandered around for a while looking for a seat. I must have looked so stupid just walking around by myself. Eventually my cousin Rose Weasley took pity on me and invited me into a compartment with her but I was too shy of her older friends who were eyeing me up and down as if I was a Niffler. So I politely said no and went to an empty compartment.

I sat there on my own for twenty minutes and then two kids rushed onto the train. They opened my compartment door and the boy asked if he and his sister could sit in my compartment. I said yes because I was sick of sitting by myself. The other kid was a girl. She had waist long blonde hair and a dreamy sort of look about her and the boy was a little shorter than her and had dark brown hair and a confused face. He sat down. "We were late. Mum was so scared that the train would have already taken off! Not very good for our first time, eh?" he said. I grinned. "What are your names? "I asked. "My name is Frank Longbottom and this is my sister Ariella "he said. "What's your name then?" asked Frank. "Lily, "I said. "Lily Potter" His eyes widened. "Are you related to Harry Potter?"

"Yeah," I said casually. He sat there stunned staring up at the ceiling for a few moments. "Wow…Wow! You're going to be very popular at school" he said. "Am I really? "I asked. "But I'm not my dad …..Or my brothers" "Do you have older brothers here? "asked Ariella, speaking for the first time. "Yeah"I say. "Though mind you they're not that clever or good looking if you want a boyfriend "I said. Frank burst out laughing. I thought Ariella would frown at me but instead she smiled. "What houses are they in? "She said. "One is in Gryffindor and the other is in Slytherin. " I said. Franks eyes widened once again. "Really but I thought all of Harry Potters children would be in Gryffindor or Ravenclaw at the least "he said. I sit there worrying about my house. The shock in Frank's face makes me more anxious. I do hope I'm not in Slytherin.
