Frozen II
Secret Room
It was a beautiful Autumn morning in Arendelle with blue skies with some fluffy white clouds making their way from south to north across the sky. This was the last Saturday of October which meant it was the day of the annual Autumn feast.
Elsa had reintroduced this tradition three years ago to help Arendelle recover its true soul after all those years of the gates being closed because of her parents concealing her powers and of course the events that arose after coronation where she froze the summer for two days. The people of the kingdom had responded to this festival very positively as it was now one of the most anticipated annual celebrations Arendelle now had.
The acceptance of Elsa as their Queen and her powers made Elsa feel very happy and contented, she couldn't have asked for anything better, though, at times she wondered if there was something more for her to become. Her powers had increased over the years, her control over them was nothing but phenomenal.
Then there was Anna, she was the rock of the Kingdom, her enthusiasm, love and infectious spirit just lifted the people so much who in turn loved their Princess with ever more affection every day. There was of course her growing love for Kristoff, who had adjusted to life in the kingdom, though it had been awkward at times for him to fit into a more domestic life.
He would jump at any chance to get out of the castle and see his family, or take everyone up to Elsa's Ice Castle so she could perform a little maintenance and check on Marshmallow and the Snowgies.
As for Olaf, he was the favorite of the children of Arendelle, any excuse for a game or just some plain fun and warm hugs was all he wanted, which was where he would rather be right now instead of being in what they now called the games room in the castle where Elsa said she would have a big surprise for him. Of course, he hoped it was a new game to play in the room.
Of course, he did remember that this was still the same room where Hans had betrayed and abandoned Anna to freeze to death just over three years ago when he tried to usurp the throne. Since then, relations between Arendelle and the Southern Isles had been frosty, though, Han's brothers had shown great remorse for his actions and his eldest brother who was now the ruler of the Southern Isles had taken some steps to try and improve the two kingdom's relationship.
Olaf walked around the games room with his flurry following him like it always did knowing that he had arrived a fair bit earlier than Elsa told him to be there. He spotted the bookshelf on the wall and as he had now become a prolific reader since he learnt how to read, he went to examine them.
He went through the different titles going "hmmm, maybe not, think I've read that, oh wait this one looks interesting."
He went to take the last book on the right bottom shelf but it wouldn't budge, "Oh come on, why are stuck in there?"
He pulled harder at the top book and it came forward, but then sprung back into place. Suddenly the bookshelf and the part of the wall it was connected to swung open.
"Ooooh, wow, a secret room." He said to himself, "I wonder what's in there?"
He was about to enter, when he heard Elsa and Anna and approaching.
"I wonder" he said pulling on the same book then releasing it and sure enough, the doorway closed.
"Ooohh," he said again "how secretively cool, I have to tell Anna and Elsa."
The door to the game room was open and Elsa and Anna walked straight in.
"Oh Olaf" said Elsa, "how long have you been waiting?"
"Not long Elsa, I have something" but he was cut off by Elsa.
"I have a big surprise for you Olaf" she said with a big smile.
"Yes, you told me and I am excited but…" again he was cut off this time by Anna.
"You're going to love this Olaf." She beamed.
"I know I will but.. oh wait, what's the surprise?" Olaf asked.
"Well," started Elsa, "you know that I am constantly getting better with my powers, well I now have a way that I can permanently freeze you so you will no longer need your flurry."
"You can!" said Olaf with surprise, "how?"
"I can cover you with a permafrost that will never melt no matter the temperature."
"Really, oh please yes, that would be wonderful."
"Okay." Said Elsa "Hang on"
With that she used her powers to separate Olaf's parts and then reassemble them but this time with the protective permafrost coating.
"Oh, oh, oh." Cried Olaf happily as the change was being made "oh this is wonderful Elsa, thank you, so much better than the flurry."
He ran over to Elsa and hugged her and Anna as well. "I love it!" he cried out, "I am going to go outside right now and enjoy the sun!"
Olaf raced out the door, but then stopped and came back into the room.
"Oh, Elsa and Anna."
"What Olaf?" they replied smiling.
"If you pull the last book on the right bottom shelf of the bookcase you will find a secret door to a secret room."
"Wait what!" said Anna with surprise
"Yes" responded Olaf, "secret room." with that, Olaf left the room hurriedly and the sisters looked at each other a little alarmed.
"Secret room?" said Elsa to Anna.
"Why would there be a secret room?" asked Anna back.
"I suppose there's only one way to find out," answered Elsa, "last book on the right bottom shelf Olaf said."
With that Elsa pulled on the book and with a click and the sound of movement the
bookshelf opened revealing a very darkened room where they couldn't see a thing inside.
"Wait,' said Elsa, "let me get some light," she quickly found a candelabra that held three candles.
Elsa illuminated the room and let out a "ohhhh" while Anna went "Woah"
"Look at all this" Elsa said.
"I'm looking" replied Anna as the two sisters entered the room. Elsa went straight to the books in a book shelf at the end of the room.
"Magical arts, dangers of dark magic" she said reading the titles of the books, "father was studying magic."
Meanwhile Anna was looking at the specimen jars and other paraphernalia in the room when she came upon a small chest. Curious she opened it to see what was inside and her face lit up.
"Elsa, Elsa, look what I found" she said in excitement.
"What?" asked Elsa
Anna then held up a scarf that was scarlet in color and beautifully embroidered with delicate patterns.
"Anna" said Elsa, "that's Momma's scarf"
"I know" she answered, "I remember her wearing it when she sang us that lullaby about that river"
"Yeah," responded Elsa with smile "it was in a place called Ahto, Ahto, Ahtohallen, that's it."
Elsa took the scarf from Anna and put it on and it immediately gave her a feeling of piece and comfort.
"Where the north wind meets the sea," Elsa started singing and Anna joined in "There's a river full of memory."
The sisters smiled at each other remembering their mother with love.
"That song always put me out like light." Said Anna.
"Hmm" smirked Elsa, "Me too, now let's see what else we can find?"
"Okay" replied Anna
Elsa looked over at the table in the middle of the room and noticed what looked like a journal. She picked it up and opened its pages and suddenly gripped her mother's scarf a little tighter and let out a sigh.
"Father was studying me too." She said.
"Wait what" said Anna in her usual way.
"This is some sort of journal," said Elsa and began reading from it. "I can find no record of a human with power like hers except for ancient myths with their tragic fates."
"Wait a minute," said Anna looking at the journal, "this isn't father's handwriting, it's mothers."
"These next pages are in English" said Elsa "but in Northuldrian."
"Northuldrian" replied Anna, "why would mother write in Northuldrian, it is sort of forbidden in the kingdom, though we were taught it, I presume just in case we made contact with the Northuldra again in that forest father told us about."
"Yes" said Elsa, "but I don't know why Momma would write in her journal in that language."
Elsa turned the page and continued reading "Whatever happened in the forest, whatever wrong was done in our forest I can no longer turn my back on the past, I wish Vindand was still here."
"Who is Vindand? And why does mother say our forest?"
"I don't know Anna."
"We need to see Pabbie as soon as possible, maybe he may have some answers for us." Suggested Anna.
"Yeah that sounds like a good idea, but it will have to wait until tomorrow, oh dear, the time, we need to get ready for the harvest celebration."
"Oh yeah, I'm going to go out and mingle with the people and see how Olaf is enjoying his new permafrost." Said Anna,
"I have some duties to attend to first, so I will see you a little later."
With that, the sisters left the room, pulling on the book so the door would close.
"Anna, do you mind if I hang onto mother's scarf, this has sort of shaken me up a bit and I must admit, it just feels so nice having it on, like I still have a part of her."
"Sure Elsa, I understand, I felt it too when I took it out, are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'll be fine, just not everyday you find a mystery about your parents."
"You got that right, anyway I'm sure Pabbie will have some answers for us, see you soon."
"Okay, enjoy the sunshine" said Elsa.
With that the sisters went their separate ways with Elsa making her way to the reception room to meet with her staff and some dignitaries who were visiting Arendelle for the Autumn Harvest celebration. When she got there, she found that they weren't quite ready yet for her yet, so she strolled out onto the balcony and looked longingly to the north as the lullaby about Ahtohallan filled her mind and got lost in the moment.
Then Kai came out and said "You're Majesty they're ready" which completely startled her so much that she accidently froze her hands to the balcony.
She turned with an embarrassed smile, "Excuse me" and when she freed her hands and said "I'm ready."
As she turned to walk in, she suddenly turned as she heard someone sing "Ah ah"
"Did you hear that?" she asked Kai who looked at her with a blank expression.
"Never mind" said Elsa realising that he hadn't and proceeded into the meeting.
