Donna and Rachel decide to go away for a pre-Christmas spa trip for the weekend and Harvey has a hard time over having to spend two nights without his wife.
"Harvey, it's just two days" Donna reassuringly says at the way her husband's silently sulking while sitting at the end of their bed, fingers intertwined in his lap.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm glad you're doing this" He tries to reassure her back.
Truth be told, he doesn't want to be that guy, the one who opposes to the idea of his partner doing things without him. He wants Donna to have fun, and do things on her own or with her best friend in this case. He knows he married a very independent woman and he couldn't be prouder of that, of her in general, and in all true he's not bothered by their only girls weekend getaway, but that doesn't mean he has to be happy about it, doesn't mean he won't miss her and he has to enjoy spending two days away from his wife.
"I've known you for fifteen years, you can't fool me Harvey, you've never been able to"
He shrugs his shoulders and smiles sadly at her "Alright, maybe I'm not thrilled about this, but I do want you to go and have fun. You and Rachel deserve it, especially since you won't be able to once their baby is here"
Rachel is three months pregnant, and they couldn't have been happier when they found out they'd be godparents to their friends' kid.
"Exactly" Donna agrees as she struggles to close her suitcase.
"Here, sit on top of it" Harvey instructs as he stands and rounds their bed to help her close it. "All this stuff just for two days…" He mutters as he pushes on the suitcase with his hand to add more pressure into it so he can close it.
"I thought we had established you're not allowed to complain about the things I pack for a trip after our honeymoon" She reminds him as he finishes closing the damn thing and stands between her legs as she's still sitting on top of it.
"But you're not going on a trip with me, which means I can complain about it if I have to help you anyway"
"You're such a baby, you lived on your own for most of your life, you can survive two days without me" She scoffs as she pecks his lips and gets off the suitcase and onto the floor.
"That was before knowing what sharing my life with the love of my life is like" She tilts her head to the side and bites her lower lip as she inevitably falls for his charm and his sweet words, like she does every time.
She walks over to him and places her arms around his neck "You're such a sweet talker… I'm gonna miss you too, I love being with you, but I'm also looking forward to spending this weekend with my best friend" She explains, letting him know being apart from him it's not easy for her either, knowing he needs that reassurance.
"I know… And I'll be fine… I'll just go grocery shopping and maybe watch tomorrow's game with Mike… Yeah, it'll be fun, I'll be totally fine, you don't need to worry about me" He rambles and she chuckles, he's most likely trying to convince himself more than he's trying to convince her.
"Yes, you will be, go out with Mike or some of the other guys in the office, you've been getting along pretty well with some of them… Just promise me you won't stay here sulking all weekend"
He gives her an annoyed look and presses his forehead to hers "I won't, I promise, I'll just hang out with Mike"
"Good"
Donna's cell phone interrupts the moment and Harvey kisses the side of her head as he leaves her to check on who's calling.
"Rach! You ready?... Okay, sure, I'm ready too so I'll pick you up in twenty" Harvey groans, low enough for Donna not to hear it, dreading the moment she'll walk out the door.
"Rachel's ready and my uber is five minutes away, so I should get going" She explains after she strolls her suitcase into the living room.
"Have fun, I'll see you on Sunday" He says as she approaches him, he frames her face with both hands and kisses her lips softly, capturing her upper lip and sucking on it gently before requesting access to her mouth with his tongue, which she gladly grants him. He deepens the kiss, his tongue meeting hers to stroke it softly, and when his hands find her butt he squeezes softly through the fabric of her dress, pressing her against him so she can feel his semi hard on and that's when she pulls away, her breathing a bit agitated after his dazzling kiss.
"Harvey, I really need to go, so stop trying to make me stay" She playfully scolds and he frowns.
"That's not what I was doing, I just thought we should have a proper goodbye"
"Isn't that what we had two hours ago when we arrived home, and then again in the shower about an hour ago?" She reminds him and he shrugs.
"Can't blame a man for trying"
"Okay, don't forget to call Marcus to tell him we're coming down next week and I'll call you as soon as we arrive" She promises and he nods before leaning in for one last soft kiss.
"I'll be looking forward to it" He replies.
"Great, I love you" She tells him as she looks into his eyes, causing him to smile at her like a fool.
"I love you too" She pecks his lips one last time and separates from him, grabs her purse and her suitcase and walks towards the front door. "You sure you don't need any help with that?" He asks, hoping to spend a few more minutes with her but she shakes her head.
"I've got it" She blows him a kiss with her hand and he tries to keep a smiling, happy face, not to let her see how much it actually affects him to see her leave.
"Did he cry?" Mike asks with a teasing tone as he helps Rachel load her suitcase into the uber.
"You're mean, and no, he didn't" Donna replies with a roll of her eyes. "Please make sure he doesn't stay locked up at home the whole weekend" She requests with a serious tone and Mike nods.
"Don't worry, I'll keep him company. You girls have fun and Donna, please look after my wife and offspring, I'll look after you big baby of a husband in return"
Donna laughs and Rachel slaps his arm playfully "Go easy on him, you know how he gets when Donna is not around, don't be mean" His wife requests and he smiles at her and kisses her quickly.
"You girls go, eat a lot, get some rest and make sure your masseuse is a woman. Specter and I will be perfectly fine without you" Both women chuckle and bid him goodbye as they get into their uber, neither of them felt like driving so they decided an uber was the best choice to get to the resort where they would be spending the weekend.
Harvey's sitting on the couch, watching a rerun of survivor as he holds a bowl of chips in his hands, when the doorbell rings. He ignores it, perfectly taking a guess on who's on the other side and not being up to his friend's teasing right now.
"I know you're in there, and I'm not leaving" Harvey lets out a long breath and shakes his head as he continues to ignore Mike. "Harvey, come on! I brought food and beer"
He reluctantly places the bowl on the coffee table and heads towards the front door, he opens it and walks back into the living room, not even greeting Mike as he follows behind him.
"You know where the plates and the glasses are" He grunts out and Mike rolls his eyes and shakes his head.
"You should be happy we have the whole weekend to ourselves, we can do guy's stuff like eat on the couch, watch baseball and drink beer. We can have our own boys' weekend" Mike cheerfully suggests from his place in the kitchen, where he's taking the cartons of food out of the bag.
"Yeah, sure" Harvey says as he resumes his place on the couch, eyes fixed on the tv screen.
"Cheer up then, it's not like they're not coming back"
"I know that" He quickly says.
"Then why are you so depressed?"
Harvey turns his head over his shoulder to look at Mike "I'm not depressed" He clarifies sternly.
"Tell that to your face, cause you don't look like a guy whose wife has just left for two whole days and he can do whatever the hell he wants for the next 48 hours" Mike says with a grin.
"That's because I actually like my wife, and I enjoy spending time with her"
"I enjoy spending time with Rachel too, and I certainly like her, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate some me time while she's out on a girl's trip"
"Then, if you want some me time so badly, what are you doing here bothering me? Go be alone and do your thing"
"She asked me not to let you sulk all weekend" Mike reveals the truth, knowing there's no point in lying to his friend.
"Of course she did… Well, don't mind her, I told her I'd be fine and I will"
"Alright, let's have dinner and then I'll leave you on your own to fall asleep while holding your wife's picture"
"You're an asshole" Harvey grunts as he takes the carton of chinese' from Mike's hand to start eating.
"I learned from the best" Mike quips as he also digs into his food.
Harvey actually ends up enjoying Mike's company amidst the teasing he gets from his friend for not being able to endure being away from Donna for long.
After Mike leaves, he decides to take a shower, and put his pajamas on before jumping into bed.
Just as he settles behind the covers, his phone rings and he sees his wife's name appear on his screen, he sits up in bed and takes the facetime call.
"Hey beautiful" He says as her face appears on his screen, she looks happy and relaxed, her hair pulled into a ponytail.
"Hey handsome"
"How's it going?"
"It's going great, there was a bit of traffic so it took us longer than we thought to get here. I've just taken a shower and we're about to go down to the restaurant to have dinner but I wanted to talk to you first" She explains with a smile.
"That's great, I'm glad you made it safely"
"You're already in bed? Did you eat dinner?" He smiles at the ways she's always worrying about him, even when out with her best friend.
"Yes, Mike showed up unannounced and brought food, we hanged out for a while, he left around fifteen minutes ago"
"I might have asked him to check on you" She admits sheepishly and he chuckles.
"I know, but you didn't have to. I told you I'd be fine"
"Okay, I believe you, I just don't want you to be alone" She admits and he smiles at her thoughtfulness "Did you call Marcus to tell him we're coming to Boston for Christmas?"
"Yeah, he was thrilled we accepted his invitation. He said the kids were looking forward to spending Christmas with aunt Donna, apparently you're more popular than me these days"
"That's just because they know that, unlike uncle Harvey, I'm a great gift giver"
"That you are, but you gotta admit I've gotten better at it recently"
"Yeah, you have" She admits, the piano he gave her as a wedding present, a clear indication of it.
"I miss you"
Her face softens and she smiles "I miss you too" She whispers back.
"I'll let you go, it's late and you haven't even had dinner yet"
"It's okay, I don't mind if you want to stay on the line for a few more minutes"
"Nah, that's okay, say hi to Rachel for me"
"Will do, good night"
"Night"
He ends the call and lets out a long breath. Ever since they decided they didn't want to ever spend another night apart, they stuck to it. And tonight it's the first night after that agreement that he has to sleep alone and he hates it. It's gonna be a long night and it's just the beginning.
Next morning Donna and Rachel share breakfast together before heading towards their first activity for the day, a Swedish massage.
Once they're both laying face down on the gurney, facing each other, they both groan as the massauses start working on them.
"God, I've needed this for ages" Rachel says with a satisfactory smile. "We both did" She adds and Donna nods.
"Tell me about it. Should have known being COO would be even more stressing than being a secretary"
"Oh, come on, I don't think there's something more stressful than being Harvey Specter's secretary, which reminds me he hasn't hired a permanent one yet" Rachel comments and Donna scoffs.
"Okay first, he wasn't so bad when he was my boss, and second you're right, he hasn't hired a secretary yet, which isn't odd really, he doesn't want to replace me" Donna explains to her friend who frowns.
"Donna you haven't been his secretary for over two years, ever since he promoted you" Rachel points out.
"Yeah, I know, and he's been having temps ever since, because he doesn't want to have another permanent secretary"
"Gretchen was his permanent secretary once"
Donna rolls her eyes at her best friend "Please, deep down he knew I would eventually go back to him, and that he would send Gretchen right over to Louis at some point, but after he made me COO he knew there was no way I was going back to his desk, hence, he never hired a secretary again"
"Well, he's gonna need one now, because none of the temps want to work for him, they say he's too demanding" Rachel reveals and it makes Donna chuckle, tell her about it, if anyone knows how demanding Harvey can be, it's her.
"I'll make sure he gets one after the holidays" Donna assures Rachel "Like I said, he's not so bad, you just gotta learn how to rub him the right way"
"And you're gonna let his new secretary do that?" Rachel wonders while raising her eyebrow suggestively.
"I completely trust my husband Rachel, he's already been through the whole 'I have unresolved feelings for my secretary' drama, and I know how he feels about me, I have nothing to worry about"
"Fair enough" Rachel agrees. "So married life is going great, isn't it?"
"Just ask about it Rachel… You're my best friend, you're allowed to" Donna says and the brunette tries to hide her excitement but she's not able to.
"I would start with the most important emotional question, but I can't move my hands so…"
"You should be as worried for me as I was for you" Donna sasses with a smirk which makes Rachel squeal.
"I knew it… And I'm assuming he also knows how to use it"
"Rachel Zane!" Donna exclaims while laughing "Of course he does… He's always been my real match, and yes the sex is amazing but it's actually not the best part of being married to him" Donna admits with a radiant face and Rachel couldn't be happier for her friend who looks as in love with her husband as Rachel surely looks with hers.
"And what would that be? I have to say, I've always had a hard time picturing Harvey as a devoted husband" The brunette admits.
"Well, you're wrong, he definitely is a devoted husband, and he just makes me feel so… happy and loved all the time"
"Is he a cuddler?"
"What's with all these questions?" Donna suddenly wonders with a laugh.
"Well, I've always wanted this for you Donna, and he always seems so cold and distant, I know he cares, I've seen him move heaven and earth for you and Mike, but he doesn't cut me like the loving type I guess, and I just want to know if I'm wrong in my assumption"
"Alright, he is definitely a cuddler, can't sleep without putting his arms around me, I bet last night he tossed and turned all night. He's very considerate, always worries about what I want and what I like or do not like whether it's in bed or in any other environment really, and he's an amazing kisser, and now you're making me really miss him, so enough talk about Harvey unless you want me to ditch you and go home to him"
Rachel giggles and her look tells Donna that she couldn't be happier for them "Alright, let's switch to second wedding planning talk, cause I'm gonna be a maid of honor before I turn into a whale that cannot properly walk, Mrs. Donna Paulsen-Specter" And just like that they switch their conversion to all the ideas Rachel has for Donna and Harvey's second wedding.
"And then the guy said he wasn't going to go for a settlement cause he was sure he could win in court, and I was like… Dude, I'm your lawyer, if I'm telling you to settle, then you better listen to me, cause there's no way you're winning this in court" Mike rambles as he and Harvey sit at a café near their home next morning. "Harvey, are you listening to me?" He asks his friend as he catches him scrolling through his phone.
"What? Oh yes, he should settle, I heard you" Harvey replies distractedly.
"What are you even…" Mike trails off as he leans over the table to take a look at Harvey's screen and groans "You're looking at pictures of Donna? God, can you be any more pathetic? You look like like a smitten teenager"
"I'll have you know, that I'm not embarrassed of missing her Mike, so mock me all you want" Harvey defends himself as he puts his phone in his pocket.
"Then why did you tell her you were okay with her leaving?"
"Because I don't want to be a selfish, controlling asshole, Mike. She has the right to spend some time with her best friend away from me, that doesn't mean I have to like it"
"There's something you're not telling me. You've never been this clingy, not with Scottie, or Paula" Mike points out and Harvey glares at him at the mention of his exes, especially his former therapist, he doesn't appreciate being reminded of the worst mistake of his life.
"It was different with them" He simply explains.
"How so?" Mike presses and Harvey sighs.
"Because I wasn't… I wasn't in love with any of them. I mean I liked them and I cared about them at the time, but they never meant to me as much as Donna does. And it took me so long to get my head out of my ass and commit to her, since I have I don't want to be away from her"
"But you surely spent some nights on your own back in New York before getting married, right? This is the same" Mike tries to encourage him, but Harvey's look tells him he might be wrong.
"Not exactly" Harvey grunts.
"Okay, so you're telling me that since you and Donna got together you've never spend a night apart until now?" Mike asks, making sure he understands Harvey's words.
"Only once, very early in our relationship, she got mad at me and didn't come over, it was hell and I hated it. Since then we haven't spent another night apart"
"Um well, that explains a lot"
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Harvey, Donna is your soulmate" He explains slowly, as if talking to a five year old.
"I don't believe in that crap, but if that even existed I guess she would be, yeah… How are you so calm and collected? you've always been such a lost puppy running after Rachel"
"Maybe, but my relationship with Rachel evolved progressively, I mean I had to stay away from her for a short while, but it doesn't compare to what you went through. Leaving all the teasing aside, you spent thirteen years suppressing your feelings for the love of your life Harvey, it's only natural that now that you're finally able to be with her you don't want to be away from her. So yes, of course I miss Rachel, but I get how you miss Donna so much more"
"Who knew you could read feelings so well Mike? Where were you when I decided to date my therapist to stop me?"
"If I recall correctly I did try to, even had your wife kiss you while you were still seeing her" Harvey chuckles, the memory something he can laugh about now.
"I guess you did" He admits as they continue having breakfast.
As Rachel and Donna sit by the hotel's indoor swimming pool, December's cold preventing them from being outside too much, they talk about everything. It's been a while since it's been just them, they see each other all the time, but Mike and Harvey are always there too, since it's only been a few months since Donna and Harvey landed in Seattle, the newlyweds haven't been too adamant of being apart until now.
"Rach, I know I'm probably too late, but I wanted to apologize anyway, you know, for your dad" Donna finally brings up the subject that's been eating at her since Robert's disbarment and Rachel never said anything about it either, not wanting to put Donna in an uncomfortable position.
"It's okay Donna, you did what you thought was right at the time, you tried to protect someone you cared about, while unconsciously trying to finally close the door on Harvey and give yourself a chance at happiness. I talked to my dad, he explained all his reasons to me, and they had nothing to do with you or even with Harvey" Rachel explains as she looks at her friend with the ghost of a smile, letting Donna know she doesn't hold any grudge against her whatsoever.
"Thank you Rachel… It's just that, after the hearing, that same night my whole life changed. I was happier than I've ever been, but at the same time your dad fell on his sword for Harvey and… It was a whirlwind, I was afraid you'd be mad at me, that you wouldn't want anything else to do with me and you're my best friend, I love you like a sister and–"
"Donna" Rachel interrupts as she grabs her friend's hand "I love you like a sister too, and nothing will ever make me want to have nothing to do with you. I will always be by your side, I know you would never hurt my dad, my family, on purpose. It wasn't your fault or even Samantha's, it was a decision made by a grown man that needed to put a burden to rest, that's how I've always seen it, and I couldn't be happier that it led to Harvey finally taking his head out of his goddamn ass… Jesus" She muses and Donna chuckles.
"Took him long enough" Donna agrees.
"Don't get me wrong, I really care about him, but I considered killing him with my bare hands when he started treating you like shit after you kissed him. I mean, who can ever think dating his former therapist is a good idea anyway?!" Rachel's upset tone makes Donna giggle.
"Oh, I don't know" She replies as she looks up, she's asked herself the same question many times before.
"Did you ever talk about it?" Rachel asks and Donna looks at her confused.
"Paula?" She wonders and her friend nods. "Yeah, we did. One night, after our sort of first fight, or disagreement really, he said it was the first time he was so affected by someone he was in a relationship with being angry at him. So I asked him how it was before, and he said that he could spend days without seeing Paula or even talking with her and he wouldn't be affected by it, but with me he couldn't stand it, so since he brought it up, we ended up talking about their relationship and we talked about Thomas too, put the past behind us and moved on from it"
"It's always been different with you. Remember Liberty Rail?"
"I could never forget" Donna mutters under her breath.
"He stormed into our apartment, demanding Mike to drop the case, furious with him for taking those documents you gave him and risking you like that. I had never seen him that way before, that was the only time I was actually afraid of Harvey, he was acting like a lunatic" Rachel confesses and Donna knows he moved heaven and earth to save her, but that's not a time she remembers fondly.
"Yeah, I remember thinking maybe he was finally ready to face his feelings, but he wasn't and you know what happened next"
Rachel can see the conversation is affecting Donna more than she wants to let on, so she decided they've done enough talking about the past.
"Well, you're married to him now, and you're both very happy, that's all that matters"
"It is" Donna replies with a smile "And we'll have a godchild to spoil rotten very soon" She says as her hand reaches for Rachel's belly and she pats it softly.
"We have to go shopping as soon as we find out the sex" Rachel excitedly proposes.
"Ohhh, we will, we'll even take our husbands so they can wait outside the stores for us and carry all those bags" They both giggle at the thought and continue to enjoy their afternoon together.
He can't take it anymore, he already did the laundry, tidied up their apartment a bit, had lunch with Mike, watched a baseball game at his place and now he's back home with nothing to do but sulk and miss his wife.
He promised himself he wouldn't bother her, even if she said he was free to call her anytime, he doesn't want to break that promise, but he can't help the physical and emotional need he feels to be near his wife.
A call would perhaps interrupt whatever she and Rachel were doing right now, but a text wouldn't hurt. She can read it later, when she's less occupied.
'I promised myself I wouldn't do this, and I really hope you're having a great time but I'm really miserable without you and I thought you'd want to know that'
He sends the text and goes into the bedroom to change into his running clothes and gear. A run can definitely help him clear his mind out of how much he misses Donna. 'God, I'm so pathetic' He mutters to himself as he heads into their walk-in closet.
She smiles like a fool while reading his text, thinking about how desperate he must be if he decided to contact her when she knows he vowed to himself he'd be a good, understanding husband, and let her enjoy her weekend in peace.
What he doesn't understand is that she never wanted him to restrain himself from contacting her all weekend, she misses him like hell too, and she had such a hard time sleeping without him next to her last night.
She replies with the smile still plastered on her face.
'I'm miserable without you too. Just so you know, we got separate rooms and it is just a forty minutes drive ;)'
She's been thinking about it all day really, seeing no point in being apart from him for another night, after all she and Rachel spent the whole day together and they're leaving tomorrow after breakfast anyway, so she really hopes he'll take on her offer.
He runs back to their house at top speed as soon as he gets her text. His phone buzzes one more time as he's entering their home and she's sent him a selfie of her in bed, her beautiful face looks relaxed but also filled with lust and he can see her cleavage along with the black lace of her bra, not revealing much but definitely enough to tease him and he already feels his pants tightening as he heads into the shower, the anticipation of seeing her again consuming him.
Fifteen minutes later he's out the door and hops into their car as he tries to keep a clear head so he can make it safely to his wife.
Fortunately it's a smooth drive, there's not a lot of traffic at that time of the night and he makes it there in thirty five minutes.
She texted him her room number so he heads straight there, anticipation invading his whole self. The wait is over, he's finally seeing Donna again after twenty four excruciating hours.
She opens the door and he lets out a long sigh at the sight of her, she's wearing a short silk robe and has a smirk planted on her beautiful face.
"Hey" She says softly, in that tone that she only reserves for him "You didn't reply and I didn't know-"
She doesn't get to finish her sentence because he closes the remaining distance between them and is on her in a flash. He crashes his lips against hers and she hums in surprise but joins his desperation a moment later as he kicks the door closed and turns her around so he can press her against it.
His hands are everywhere and she holds onto his shoulders tightly, the kiss is desperate, his tongue begging for entrance and she eagerly lets him in, their tongues dance together, battling for dominance.
"Fuck Donna, I missed you so much" He pants as he moves his lips to attack her jaw and her neck. She tilts her head back so she can give him better access.
"I missed you too" She pants between kisses, pushing his coat off his shoulders and trying to get him out of his clothes as soon as possible. "God Harvey, you're wearing too many clothes" She complains as she tugs on the hem of his sweater to get rid of it.
"Well I'm sorry honey, but it is freezing outside" He retorts as his lips find her neck again after she pulls his sweater off him and starts working on his shirt's buttons.
"I guess I'll have to warm you up then" She whispers against his ear and he groans.
"I guess you will"
Once he's only clad in his boxers he steps back and takes a moment to appreciate the sight in front of him. His wife, wearing only black lace panties and matching bra, her lips swollen, her hair tousled from the way he entangled his fingers between her tresses while he devoured her neck a few seconds ago, and he thinks this is what being in heaven must feel like.
"Are you gonna stare much longer or you're gonna claim what's yours already?" She teases with a smirk and he doesn't have to be told twice. He closes the distance between them, lifts her off the ground only to throw her onto the bed and climb on top of her, determined to remind her why it's never a good idea to spend their nights apart.
She's sore and her muscles ache in the most wonderful way. She can feel Harvey's breathing behind her, steady against her neck as the memories of last night flow through her head and bring a smile to her face.
He was like a starved man, eager to satisfy her in every possible way, and satisfy her he did, thrice actually.
"Morning" His deep voice causes her to feel the vibration against her neck.
"Morning" She repeats as she turns her head to kiss his lips "You know, I really enjoyed this weekend with Rachel, but let's never spend another night apart" She says against his lips and he smiles groggily, his eyes still closed.
"I don't know, the reunion sex was amazing" He snuggles further into her, rubbing his nose against her neck.
"Oh, so you're saying you actually enjoyed spending a night alone in our bed?" She challenges, pretending to be upset and he immediately shakes his head.
"Fuck no, I hated it" He admits and she chuckles.
"Well, I can still do things like these with Rachel, but I'll make sure to make it home before bedtime"
"That sounds like a perfect arrangement" He agrees while she turns in his arms to face him and starts running her fingers through his hair.
"Good. Now, be honest, before you sent me that text, how many times did you restrain yourself from contacting me?"
He sighs and shrugs "I don't know… fifteen, twenty maybe?"
"That's a lot of times" She comments as she continues to caress his nape "So on a scale from one to ten how miserable were you?" She loves to tease him, and she loves it when he acknowledges how much he actually needs her and misses her.
"A hundred" He replies as he looks up so he can look her in the eye as he replies.
"My poor baby" She coos with a smirk and he groans.
"I already had enough teasing from Mike to last me a lifetime Donna, I don't need you to tease me too, and… I'm not ashamed to admit I miss you when you're not home. I especially hate sleeping without you"
"I know, I'm sorry, no more nights apart I promise"
"Will you keep your word this time? Cause you said the same thing after that one night we spent apart back in New York"
"Harvey, that was different, it was very early in our relationship, and I was pissed at you. This time we talked about it, you agreed to it and we're married, it's not the same, but yes, I promise to keep it"
"Good"
"Wait, what time is it?" She suddenly says as she turns back to her side to check the time and jumps out of bed much to her husband's dismay who immediately protests.
"Donna! get back here" He whines as he sees her head into the bathroom.
"I was supposed to meet Rachel for breakfast fifteen minutes ago, Harvey"
"Text her to tell her you overslept, take a shower with me and then we can have breakfast" He suggests and she tilts her head to the side and gives him a pointed look.
"I'm not ditching her just because you're here, Harvey. I'm showering on my own" She clarifies before he can join her "And I'm heading down for breakfast, you can meet us there when you're ready"
"Fine" He grunts with a pout that she finds adorable, and it takes all of her willpower to get inside the shower, when really, all she wants to do is jump back into the bed and have her way with him.
"I am so sorry, I overslept" Donna quickly apologizes as she sits in front of Rachel.
"That's okay, I just came down myself" Her friend dismisses her lateness and she's thankful Rachel is not upset about it.
"Well, I have good news, I got us a free ride home" Donna announces and Rachel smirks.
"I know, Harvey is here"
Donna's surprised look makes Rachel giggle "How do you know that?"
"Donna, your room is right next to mine, unless you're having an affair with a man that's also called Harvey, your husband is here" Her friend points out and it makes Donna blush profusely.
"Sorry" She apologizes but Rachel brushes it off with her hand and smiles at Donna.
"Don't be, I remember what the first few months of a marriage are like, Mike and I went at it anywhere we could , so don't worry about it. You look radiant by the way, so I'm assuming it was a hell of a night"
"I'm surely sore and tired, but it was damn worth it" Rachel laughs as she puts a piece of watermelon in her mouth.
"Ladies" Harvey says behind Donna as he leans to place a kiss on top of her head.
"Good morning Harvey" Rachel greets him as he sits next to Donna and she motions to the waitress to get them two coffees.
"Good morning Rachel. And sorry to intrude on your only girls trip" He apologizes with a dashing smile.
"That's okay, I should have known you wouldn't make it more than twenty four hours without seeing each other, unfortunately I owe my husband two hundred dollars"
"You had a bet going?" Donna asks surprised and Rachel nods.
"I waged you'd make it, Mike waged you wouldn't"
"I love how much faith he has in me" Harvey grunts and Rachel gives him a pointed look.
"He wasn't wrong" She mutters and he shrugs his shoulders.
"Figured I'd save you some money by giving you a ride"
Rachel snorts and shakes her head "You're so considerate Harvey, thank you" She replies sarcastically while hiding a smile, cause in all truth she couldn't be happier for Donna.
As Harvey parks at the Rosses' entryway Mike comes out to greet his wife with a smirk planted on his mouth.
"I knew it! I knew you wouldn't last, I'm gonna spend those two hundred bucks on new video games" It's the first thing he says as Harvey takes Rachel's suitcase out of the trunk of his car.
"I'm glad you got something out of this" Harvey mutters.
"I'm sorry he blew your weekend" Mike tells Rachel as he plants a soft kiss on her lips and caresses her small baby bump.
"Oh he didn't! We had nothing else scheduled for today, we shared breakfast together and he played some really nice music on the stereo, so no complaints here"
"Thank you Rachel, that's really nice of you, I'll never know what you saw in this jerk" Harvey jokes as Donna slaps his arm playfully.
"Don't talk like that about our puppy, Harvey" She scolds, and her comment has Mike rolling his eyes at her.
"I think you have a new puppy, Donna" He retorts as he points towards Harvey with his head.
"Okay, that's it. Donna, we're putting our name on another wall first thing tomorrow" Harvey tells her and both Donna and Rachel shake their heads at their men.
"No, we are not. Come on, let's leave the kids alone so they can reunite. We'll see you guys tomorrow at work" She says as she hugs Rachel and Mike goodbye and takes her husband's hand to lead him towards the car.
Harvey starts the engine once Donna is buckled up and pulls out of Mike and Rachel's driveway. When they stop at a red light, he grabs her hand and kisses her knuckles before resting their intertwined hands on the car's console.
"Hey" He calls softly and she looks at him with a tender smile "I'm sorry I crashed your weekend with Rachel, all jokes aside I shouldn't have, I should have waited for you to come home to see you"
"Harvey" She says as she looks into his eyes so he knows she's being one hundred percent honest " You didn't crash anything. I told you to come and I was desperately missing you too, and you heard Rachel, we didn't have any pending activities and we had a great time while we were on our own, but I am happy you decided to come" She tells him sincerely and he smiles "You're a good husband Harvey, so don't worry about it" She finishes with a squeeze of his hand.
"Thank you" He whispers and leans forward to softly kiss her lips.
"I love you" She says next, her eyes shining for the man she chose to spend the rest of her life with.
"I love you too" He replies as the light ahead turns green and he continues the short drive to their home, well, at least to where their house is, because for Harvey, Donna's always been his real home, and she always will be.
