The Best brother

Tim and Damian stood in the aftermath of what had been another fight between Jason and Dick. The two eldest always seemed to be fighting, which only got worse as soon as Jason inherited Robin. It had left Tim and Damain in a rather big pickle and they often chose to stay out of it as much as possible.

After one particularly violent fight Damian turned to Tim and stated, "Tiwm, wes never fights."

Tim just picked up the little tot into his seemingly big seven year old arms and reassured him, "Course we won't, we're far too clever for that!" the tot grinned and glomped his brothers head in happiness, which caused Tim to fall flat on his back. Damian however, unscathed as he was, sat up with surprise, "Sworry tiwm! I didn't meants to hurted yous!"

"That's okay little brother."

"Tiiiiiiimmmmmm !" Damian, now three year old half-yelled as he barged into his brother's room. Tim had been working on a science project for his school turned to the sound of his brother. Immediately he saw what the problem was, Damian had been bullied, again, by someone. Someone who was going to regret very much for causing the trembling tears about to fall out of his brother's eyes.

Opening up his arms, he picked the child up and placed him onto the bed, "Who was it and why?" Tim asked. He knew that babying Damian would only cause him to cry more, direct questions and revenge were probably his best bet at calming down his brother.

"Barker, he said that you were going to go away forever when you go to high school. You're not right? Promise!" Damian almost begged, almost, because Tim knew that Damian would never need to beg to anyone, not if he had a hand in the matter.

"Of course not little brother, just the usual time that we have now. Also work might be harder, but we can study together like always, don't worry." Tim patted his brother. They savoured the silence for a few moments before Damian caught sight of the science project on Tim's desk, silently asking his brother with a look what it was. Tim replied, "It's a school project, I'm trying to make a solar powered clock out of house hold materials, wanna help me?" Damian nodded enthusiastically jumping down from the bed.

The two busied themselves with the work when Damian began to bit his lips again. Another sign that something was on his mind, this time of a more mischievous nature. "Wanna send Barker that pic from daddy's latest case?"

"Sounds like a good revenge, but I got a better one. Let's dig up some dirt on him and do some psychological warfare?"

Damian nodded in agreement. Barker never messed with Damian again.

"You know that Tim's going to take over the robin mantle one day right Lil'D?" Dick asked as he messed with his brother.

"Never, Timothy is far smarter than you! He would never, cause we're gonna be robins together!" Damian stated vehemently. Though Damain being the youngest Dick could only find it funny.

"Suuure. And Bats would let that happen. Two little robins to look after" Dick stated as he moved away from the enraged five year old.

"GET BACK HERE GRAYSON!" he yelled as he chased him through the corridor.

Tim poked his head out of his room and sleepily asked, "Do you guys even know what time it is? We have school in the morning and some of us would actually like to get in a good night's sleep." Damian immediately turned heel and ran to Tim's side.

"We're gonna be Robin's together right? We're not going to fight like Dick-head and Shit-face right?" Damian's imploring eyes beseeched his older brother.

Tim's resolve faltered. " 'Course we are, and we are waaaaay cooler than Dick and Jason. And remember what Dad said about swearing?"

"But they say it all the time!"

"And that's why they are grounded all the time. Pick your battles little bro." Tim said sagely. "But all Robins need to have a good night's sleep, so let's try to do right now shall we?" Damian nodded and ran to his room.

"You're the best brother ever!" Damian smiled as he turned his head over his shoulder to look at the retreating form of his favourite brother.

"Right back at you Dami." Tim said sleepily.

"You know that you are going to have to tell him at some point." Dick stated as he munched on the apple right by Tim's head. He was spraying juice and saliva all over the Bat computer with nary a care in the world. "The fall out is only going to be worse if you keep delaying the inevitable." Tim shrugged Dick's words off, ignoring the tingling alarm bells in the back of his mind.

"Dick I'm trying to work here, can you help or just leave please?" Tim stated as he continued to type away at the computer.

"Don't say I didn't warn you~" Dick replied in a sing song voice as he left the Batcave.

Damian had been suspicious about Tim's behaviour recently. His older brother had kept disappearing from the room whenever he was around. Not that it was that big of a deal, Damian's birthday was around the corner and it could just be because Tim had another surprise in store for him. Well that was what he had believed before he saw Tim in the Robin costume. He had always assumed that Jason had taken back his rightful place when the stories of Robin had come back to life. He didn't expect a betrayal like this. Not from his favourite brother. But maybe he was getting ahead of himself and that Tim just hadn't had the time to tell him yet? Maybe he was still training and softening Dad up so that they both could be robins together.

But then Damian's birthday came and went, months had passed and Tim had yet to say anything in the matter. And then, then Dad got hurt, because Robin hadn't knocked out a thug properly and they were all in the cave together. And Tim was Robin.

Tim reached out to the hurting child, "Damian-"

"Do not speak to me, Drake. This is a matter for family afterall." Damian turned to Robin with eyes full of hate, hurt, and tears, "And you are family no more."
