Irma meets Will on the quad on a day when the sun is shining, like, obnoxiously bright. Things have been quiet since the Guardians of the Veil flocked to different parts of the country in pursuit of higher education. Their Guardian duties lead them to other worlds every once in a while, but things are quiet on the interdimensional conflict front lately.
It's weird to see Will again. She told the others she was staying in Heatherfield with Matt, no plans for the future whatsoever. Irma spends her free time wondering what kind of vigilante justice she and Matt are up to back home. Taranee is unenthused by her conspiracy theorizing as she buries herself in photography; Corny simply rolls her eyes and pushes her glasses up the bridge of her nose; Hay Lin, of course, shares in her tinfoil hat musings.
She sighs.
Will is cagey when Irma asks what she's been up to. She avoids her prying questions, expertly casting her red-brown eyes away. The sun starts to melt into the horizon.
She nudges her in the ribs. "What is this thing," asks Will, "with you and Hay Lin?"
There are a thousand possible responses poised on the tip of her tongue. Hay Lin is the only person on the planet who can make her laugh till she snorts orange juice out her nose. She can tell someone's exact measurements just by looking at them. She gives the best hugs in the world. She gets this little divot between her brows whenever she has a premonition. She loves Twin Peaks and Karmilla and pink marshmallow fluff. Truly, she has never felt more at home than in the kitchen of the Jasmine Dragon as her best friend burns the wonton soup and sings her favourite songs off-key.
Sometimes, despite her flights of spaciness, Irma thinks Hay Lin might be the smartest one of them all.
"I'm falling in love with her," Irma realises aloud.
