Chapter Ten

No One's Property

When the sun started rising Doll didn't want to waste any time in getting out of Wayne Manor. When she had opened the door to the guest bedroom that morning a bag of brand-new clothes was waiting for her. She didn't even want to know how the butler was so good at guessing women clothing sizes. That was a mystery that Doll didn't want to solve.

The bag of clothes included a few choices of everything. She guessed if someone had as much money as Bruce Wayne a few hundred dollars' worth of clothing was nothing to his bank account.

Doll picked out a simple black knee length skirt and paired it with a pair of black leggings. She also found a white button up collared shirt and layered a red sweater over top of it. To complete the look, she found a pair of black ankle boots. Doll gave the butler some credit... he had good taste at least.

When she was ready to leave, she thankfully didn't run into Bruce but Alfred insisted on calling her a taxi to take her home. Doll refused to stay in the manor a second longer so she waited outside of the gates that surrounded the property for the taxi.

She couldn't have the taxi actually take her home so instead she got him to take her to a Starbucks that was in the city. The coffee shop was pretty empty on a Sunday morning; something Doll was grateful for. The guy at the register gave her a friendly smile as she walked over. It never got less weird for Doll to have someone smile friendly at her.

"Good morning, miss! What can I get ya?" He asked.

Doll didn't need to glance at the menu. Her and Allison had sold enough Starbucks to the citizens of New York to last Doll a life time.

"I'll take an Earl Grey Tea and a blueberry scone." She told him. She didn't give him time to give her a total before she was handing him a twenty-dollar bill and telling him to keep the change. Doll stared at the guy in a daze as he rushed around to get her order ready.

"Umm miss." The Starbucks worker's voice broke her out of her gaze. He stood there with her cup of tea and a bag with her scone inside. "Here is your order."

Doll blinked and took the items from him. She gave him a smile before quickly leaving the shop.

The streets of Gotham were slowly getting crowed as Doll casually walked down the sidewalks getting closer and closer to The Narrows. No one paid her any attention. To them she was just another boring Gotham citizen.

When she started getting closer to home Doll got off the main streets and started taking less traveled back alley ways. She finally made it to the hotel she called home and pulled out her keys to unlock the door only to find that her key didn't work. Someone, meaning The Joker, had changed the locks on her. Doll glared at the door. She didn't want to put up with The Joker's weird sense of jealously this early in the morning while she was running on no sleep.

Doll knocked loudly on the door hoping for someone to hear it. The longer she waited out there the more her anger was bubbling to the surface. Doll guessed about five minutes had passed since she knocked and no one had come to open the door so she tried again. Only a few seconds passed before she heard movement from the other side of the door. The person on the other side cracked the door open just an inch.

"Whatever you're selling we are not interested." The nasally voice said from the other side of the door. Doll rolled her eyes; of course, it was The Joker and she knew that he knew it was her. Fortunately for him she didn't have any weapons on her.

"Open. The. Door." Doll told him with her teeth clenched.

"No." He told her his voice dropping several octaves.

"I am not in the mood for this." She told him.

"Well, too bad. You didn't come back last night and it was my semi-annual changing of the locks. If you had been here you would have gotten a new set of keys." He told her.

"Do you really except me to believe that?" She questioned him. He didn't answer her. "Fine," she told him before pulling out a pre-paid cellphone from her purse. She typed in the number for Gotham's Police Station.

"What are you doing?" The Joker asked her as he watched her from the crack in the door.

Doll's finger hovered over the call button.

"If you won't let me in than I'll just ring the GPD and give them your location as an anonymous tip. I'm sure they will appreciate it since Gordon is the only somewhat competent one down there." She told him as she pressed the call button and held the phone up to her ear to listen to it ring.

She heard him groan from behind the door before it swung open. Doll smiled and hung up the phone. The Joker stood in the door way watching her as she walked closer to him. He didn't move out of her way so she squeezed past him. She heard him slam the door shut before his arms grabbed her waist and pulled her back to him.

"Want to let me in on why you never came home last night?" The Joker questioned her as his arms caged her into him.

"After your wonderful performance at the party Bruce didn't want me going home alone so, he invited me to stay the night." Doll told him. She felt his fingers dig into her sides.

"You... spent the night with Wayne?" The Joker spit out around clenched teeth. Even though his finger nails would leave bruises she couldn't help but smile at his anger. It was his own fault that it happened.

"Yep!" Doll answered him cheerfully ignoring the pain he was inflecting on her.

The Joker didn't respond and the only sound that could be heard was their breathing for several long minutes as she stood trapped against him. One of his hands finally released its grip and went to the top of her head and pulled the wig from her head. Her long blonde hair fell past her shoulders in tangles and he twisted her around to face him. Doll glared as she stared up at him and he glared right back at her.

The Joker studied her. Her blonde hair was now showing thanks to him but her scars were still covered. He wondered if she enjoyed her time with Bruce Wayne and what really happened while she stayed the night.

"Are we going to stand like this forever?" She questioned him when he made no move to let her go or say anything. "I can see the wheels turning in your brain so let me clarify somethings for you. Yes, I spent the night at Wayne Manor but just in case you need me to clarify it for you I stayed in a guestroom. I also was able to get access to Wayne's computer so after tomorrow Ofelia will no longer exist. Happy?" She told him. She didn't dare tell him about the kiss. Doll didn't even want to think about it.

He studied her for a little longer to see if he could detect a lie before he finally released her from his grip.

"Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to take a shower and put on my own clothes then take a nap." She told before standing on the tips of her toes so she could reach his face where she planted a kiss to his right facial scar. She felt his lips twitch up into a smile before she moved away. "I expect pizza when I wake up!" She called out as she made her way up the stairs to the bedroom.

Doll wasted no time in stripping out of the clothes that were bought for Ofelia and stepping into the scolding hot water. She scrubbed her skin until it was red to get rid of all traces of yesterday. She felt like she could still feel Bruce's soft touch on her skin and it just made her scrub harder. By the time she was satisfied the water had gone cold and her skin was pink. Doll pulled on a pair of black leggings and a green t-shirt before she collapsed face first into her bed. Lack of sleep had finally made her brain slow down enough that she was able to get some sleep.

She woke up to the feeling of someone playing with her hair. She let out a groan and stretched before opening her eyes. The Joker laid beside her. He held himself up with one arm while his other hand was tangled into Doll's hair.

"Did you get me a pizza?" Was Doll's first words to him.

He smiled.

"I wasn't about to face your wrath. Your pizza is on the desk." He said tilting his head in the direction of the desk that was across the room.

Doll groaned again. "That's too far away." She whined. Doll snuggled back in the bed hiding her face into her pillow.

She heard The Joker snort. "Sometimes I think you're a child." He told her.

"I'm not a child... I'm a dolly!" Doll told him with her face still buried in her pillow. Her body shook as she giggled.

"Yes, you are. A dolly I love to play with." The Joker told her as his hand that had been in her hair started to make it way down her back before resting on her butt. Doll jumped in surprise when he smacked it. She growled and rolled onto her back. She turned her head to glare at him. He just smiled in response as he pulled is hand out from underneath her.

"I hate you." She told him.

"No, you don't" He replied back.

"Fine, I hate you... sometimes." She corrected.

"In that case you can get up and get the pizza yourself. If not, I'll eat it." The Joker warned her as he had moved to get off the bed. Doll shot him one last glare before she quickly slid off the bed to grab the pizza. Once she grabbed the box she jumped back into the bed. The Joker just watched her in amusement. Neither spoke while Doll ate; first eating the pepperonis than the topless slices of pizza.

When she was done, she tossed the pizza box to the floor and fell back onto the bed to stare at the ceiling or at least she was until The Joker's faced blocked the view.

"Can I help you?" She asked him. "My face can't be that interesting to stare at."

"You underestimate the fascination I have with you, doll face." He told her as he moved in closer. It didn't take him long before his whole body was hovering over hers. She laid perfectly still as he molded his body to hers; his lips finding their way to her neck. "I have to make sure you continue to know where you belong." He told her in between the kisses he was leaving down her neck. One of his hands traveled over her body before resting on her waist and giving her a squeeze.

"I didn't know that that was a concern." Doll finally moved. One hand went to the back of his head; her fingers slipping into his green curls. The other grabbed onto his shoulder. Her legs wrapped around his waist.

His tongue retraced the path of his kisses up her neck until his lips hovered over her ear. He bit down and pulled on her broken ear lobe. "I have to make sure that you remember that you're my little dolly... and not Mr. Playboy Bruce Wayne's" He growled into her ear.

Doll rolled her eyes. She used all of her body weight to flip them so she was on top holding him down. Her legs were on either side of his hips and she sat on his stomach. She leaned forward so their faces were just centimeters apart. Her blonde hair fell around them.

"I. Am. No. Ones. Property!" She told him her voice low and dangerous each word state clearly. "If I really wanted to leave... don't even humor yourself into thinking you could stop me. I don't need you... I want you."

Doll blinked and The Joker was pulling her closer to him and his lips attacked hers. She hoped that he finally understood that he didn't have competition. Bruce Wayne was just another Gotham Citizen that was a toy in Doll's playground. He might have been from an influential family that owned a lot of Gotham but he was nothing in Doll's world.
